BERNADETTE ALMA OUIMET

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Bernadette Alma Ouimet, 87, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie.

A homemaker, she was a local resident since 1952, formerly of Vermont. She was a member of St. Peters Church in Hyde Park. Mrs. Ouimet enjoyed flowers and flower gardening.

Born Sept. 24, 1916 in Swanton, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Alma (Lemnah) Langevin. In 1936, she married George O. Ouimet, in Vermont. Mr. Ouimet died in 1974.

Survivors include two sons, Bernard Ouimet and his wife, Jackie of Hyde Park, and Terrence Ouimet of Boulder Creek, Calif.; two daughters, Carole DeBellis and her husband, Tom of LaGrange, and Linda Ouimet Curran and her husband, Steve of Hyde Park; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Langevin of Swanton, Vt. and Donald Langevin of Northport, Fla.; a sister, Regina Reynolds of Swanton, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Jeanette Jarvis, Theresa Steinman and Laura Bovat; and three brothers, Delos, Lucien and Joseph Langevin.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Sweets Funeral Home Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peters Parish, Hudson View Dr., Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Burial will be in the family plot at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

ALVAH C. WILCOX

MILTON -- Alvah C. Wilcox, 87, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington following a short illness.
Alvah was born in Grand Isle on Feb. 27, 1916, the son of Daniel and Gertrude (Trouville) Wilcox.

On June 19, 1938, he married Laura Poquette in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Isle.

Alvah farmed for many years in Milton and South Hero. He was very proud of his team of horses, which he used for gathering sap in the spring.

Alvah was also employed by General Electric in Burlington, retiring in 1978.

Following retirement he loved cutting firewood, however if he wasn't cutting firewood, he and his wife Laura could be found fishing.

Alvah was very devoted to his family and was a kind and gentle man, and would always be their to help his neighbors. Alvah was also a member of St. Ann;s Catholic Church and was a founder of the Arrowhead Senior Citizens in Milton.

Mr. Wilcox is survived by his children and their spouses, Larry Wilcox and his wife Paula of Milton, Barb Patno and special friend Roland Dubuque of South Hero, Alvin "Mickey" Wilcox and his wife Jean of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., and Dick Wilcox and his wife Laurie of Essex Center. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dan, Dawn, Laurie, Bonnie, Mary, David, Gregory, Michael, Christina, Timothy, Kevin, Karen, Alvin Charles, Ben and Chris; and by 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Harold Wilcox of Peru, N.Y. and his sister and brother in laws Rose and Tom Mulrain of Holland, Mass., and Clifford and Mary Poquette of Burlington; and by several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Laura in 1987; his grandson Dale in 1984; and by his brothers Gerald, Roger and Edmond Wilcox.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. Memorials may be made to the Arrowhead Senior Citizens. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton with a Rosary at 8:45 p.m.

MERRIMAN I. "SONNY" SHELTRA

MONTGOMERY CENTER -- Merriman I. "Sonny" Sheltra, age 64, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 25, 2004, at his home with his family at his side.

He was born in St. Albans on Feb. 1, 1939, the son of the late, Raymond and Glenna (Donna) Sheltra.

He was a resident of Montgomery most of his life where he was an active member of the Montgomery Community Baptist Church for which he worked very hard helping with repairs, cleaning and general up-keep. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge from the service he was employed at Vermont Asbestos Mines in Lowell for 38 years. He was a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Ironship Builders, Blacksmith Forgers & Helpers D338 of Eden. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 12 of Richford. Sonny enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes and carpentry work which he was very accomplished at. During his retirement he enjoyed working at the Black Lantern in Montgomery Village and most of all he loved the outdoors during the summer.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Paxman) Sheltra of Montgomery Center; his children, Michael Sheltra and his wife, Connie of Montgomery Center, and Vicky Duncan and her husband Christopher of Newport; his grandchildren, whom he loved and enjoyed, Allen Sheltra and Connor Duncan; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Paxman of Westfield; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nancy Domina and her husband Edward of Conway, N.H., Gerald Paxman and his wife Persis of Westfield, Deborah Croteau of Vero Beach, Fla., and Joyce Crawford and her husband Jim of Westfield; his nieces and nephews, Kevin Paxman and his fiancee Merry Hamel of Westfield, Todd Alix and his wife Myra of Jay, Trudy Alix of Springfield, Mass., and Corey Alix and his wife Sarah of Taylors, S.C.; a special niece Sonia Paxman and her friend Brad Baraw of Westfield; eight great-nieces and nephews; and several cousins including a special cousin, Lyndol Elkins and his wife Lila of Montgomery. Sonny also had several very special friends that were in his life. He was predeceased by a daughter, Rosemarie Sheltra in 1960.

Sonny's family would like to give special thanks to Persis Paxman and Sonia Paxman who helped so much during his illness, helping with trips to St. Albans and his care at home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at 12 noon at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will be next spring in the St. Isidores Cemetery in Montgomery Center.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.

AVALENE CATHERINE MACHIA

RICHFORD -- Avalene Catherine Machia, age 87, widow of Raymond E. Machia, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 25, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

She was born Nov. 21, 1916, in Enosburg Falls, the daughter of the late Homer and Stella (Hopkins) Best.

She was a resident of Richford for the past 20 years and a former resident of Enosburg Falls. Along with her husband, Raymond they ministered for the Assembly of God Church in Richford for many years. Avalene enjoyed the time she spent visiting people at local nursing homes and especially enjoyed playing the piano at Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans. She was a member of the Green Mountain Church of God in Richford.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Erno of Burlington; two granddaughters and their husbands, Deborah and Ronald Rickert of Elmore, and Collene and Charles Horne of Enosburg Falls; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, David Erno; a great-grandson, Joshua Erno; and a son-in-law, Vonwick Erno.

Friends and relatives may call on the family one hour prior to the funeral which will be held Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2004, at 2 o'clock at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will be next spring in the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.

DONALD A. DRAPER

FAIRFIELD -- Donald A. Draper, 75, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at FAHC in Burlington, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Huntington, Vt. on May 19, 1928, the son of the late Frederick and Viola (Mitchell) Draper of Fairfield.

On Aug. 13, 1946, Donald married Margaret Blaisdell in Swanton. Margaret survives him. They lived all their married life in Fairfield where Donald managed a farm on the Lapland Road in East Fairfield for D. Francis Howrigan and his son Thomas Howrigan for 40 years until his retirement in 1990. In his retirement he spent time each day with his Dad, building wagons for local farmers.

Donald always enjoyed sugaring each spring and his garden in the summer. His garden was always the best around and he was proud of it always being weed free. He enjoyed all the local hunting stories told by "the boys in Fairfield." Above all, he enjoyed and was so proud of his family.

Donald leaves his loving wife and best friend of 58 years, Margaret; four children, Linda Button and her husband, David of Fairfield, Vt., Margaret Jean Perry and her husband, James of Sheldon, Sherry Boulerice and her husband, Michael of St. Albans, and Harold Garrett and his companion, Laurie Belisle of Swanton. He is also survived by a sister, Carol Graves of Seal City, Calif.; four brothers, Fred Draper, Jr., and his wife, Charlene of St. Albans, George Draper and his wife, Phyllis of St. Albans, Ronnie Draper and his wife, Diane of West Charleston, Vt., and Gary Draper and his wife, Veronica of Enosburg Falls; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves four aunts, Arlene Lapan of Fletcher, Vt., Myrtle Greenwood of Franklin, Vt., Marjorie Lawyer and Ruth Bennett, both of Huntington, Vt. He was predeceased by twin daughters, Margery and Margaret; and a sister, Margaret Garrett.

The family wishes to extend thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff of Franklin County Home Health Agency, and especially to Dr. Robert Beattie and the staff of Holiday House Nursing Facility in St. Albans.

A funeral service was to be held today, Jan. 26, 2004, at 1 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel. Pastor Marcheta Townsend officiates. Visitation was held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478. MARK G. BROUILLETTE

RICHFORD -- Mark G. Brouillette, age 68, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at his home with his loving family at his side.

Mark was born Oct. 19, 1935, in St. Albans, the son of the late George and Cleora Brouillette.

Mark was a well known dairy farmer till January 1998, when he was forced to sell for health reasons. Mark was very proud of his modern dairy operation and always loved his profession. During his brief illness he was always willing to talk about farming. Mark's other pride and joy were his two daughters and grandchildren.

Mark graduated from Richford High School and Champlain College. He was a former member of FFA and the Vermont National Guard in Enosburg Falls. Mark was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Richford where he was also a member of the choir and was known for his beautiful voice. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2610 of All Saints Parish, and the American Legion Post 12 of Richford. Mark enjoyed performing in local Minstrel and Variety Shows.

He is survived by his wife, Heidi (Veith) Brouillette of Richford; two daughters, Katie Cate and her husband Adam, Keri Brouillette; his two grandchildren whom he loved, Alex and Hannah Cate all of Burlington; a brother and his wife, Philip and Jeannette Brouillette of Burlington, Mass.; a sister, Louise Brouillette of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Reginald LaFontaine of Champlain, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend of the family, Irene Lynch. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth LaFontaine in September 2001; and Lillian Brouillette in March 2003.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford. Interment will be next spring in All Saints Cemetery in Richford

Visiting hours will be held today (Monday) from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, Vt.

DONALD CARL MINCKLER

FRANKLIN -- Donald Carl Minckler, 65, who lived with his daughter Sheila in Franklin, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at the home of his sister, Linda Stell. He was born Dec. 9, 1938, in Highgate Center, the son of Gladys (Conger) Minckler and the late Carl G. Minckler.

Don was employed for many years as a truck driver for the George Yett Bag Company in Swanton and then for Burlington Drug-Dowlings, in Milton. He enjoyed carpentry work, bowling, riding in his new pickup truck, fishing with his family and going to McDonald's in Swanton for his fries. His CB Handle was "Papa Smurf."

Survivors include his mother, Gladys of St. Albans; his children, Floyd Tatro and his wife, Lori of Highgate, Karen Greene and her husband, Michael of Highgate and Sheila Longe and her husband, Pat of Franklin; grandchildren, Sean and Holly Tatro, Nichole and Skyler Greene, Cora Brehault, Alexsis Lemay and Shantel and Patience Longe; sisters, Linda Stell of St. Albans and Beverley Nichols and her husband, Fred of Enosburg, Charles Conger, Jr., of Georgia, Vt. He also leaves his friend and former wife, Sandra Greenwood of Highgate Springs; her mother, Arlene Tatro of Franklin; brothers-in-law, Eddie and Tim Tatro of Alburg, and Larry Tatro of Franklin; sisters-in-law, Florence and Brenda Mashtare of Swanton, Joyce Bohannon of Swanton, Arlene Gagne of Highgate and Earlene Conger of St. Albans; and a special family friend, Martha Graham of Highgate. He will be missed by his dogs, Benji and Venus. He was predeceased by his father, Carl; and father-in-law, Claude Tatro.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. Pastor William Simmons will officiate. Don's family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Home Health, Hospice Program, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

PAULINE MARIE GOODHUE

SWANTON / BURLINGTON -- Pauline Marie Goodhue, 91, a Burlington resident for most of her life and more recently of Swanton, died early Friday evening, Jan. 23, 2004, at The Holiday House Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in St. Albans Town.

Born in Waterbury, Conn. on Feb. 19, 1912, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Hall) Brown. She attended elementary schools in Waterbury and graduated high school in Springfield, Massachusetts. On April 18, 1938, she married Arthur G. Goodhue, Sr. who predeceased her April 1, 1983.

Pauline lived most of her adult life in the city of Burlington. She lived over 30 years at 42 Pitkin Street in the cities old north end, and following the death of her husband became a resident of the 3 Cathedral Square Apartments residing their for nearly 15 years. In 1998 she became a resident of Giordano Manor in Swanton until being admitted to Holiday House in November of this year. In Burlington she was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and attended Mass daily. She was a former member of the Burlington Senior Citizens.

She leaves a son, Arthur Goodhue of Swanton, his very dear friend Ginette Laroche Young of West Swanton; two grandchildren, Lisa Anne Goodhue of Swanton and Paul Michael Goodhue of Beverly, Mass. and Swanton; and several nieces and nephews, as well as her extended families at Giordano Manor and Holiday House.

In addition to her husband, Pauline was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Yvette (Matte) Goodhue in 1998.

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and Father Joseph T. Sullivan the homilist. Following the liturgy a luncheon reception for all will be served at the My-T-Fine II Restaurant in Highgate Springs. Interment services will follow at 2 p.m. in the Goodhue family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery Annex, Pomeroy Street, Burlington. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Pauline's memory may be made to Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P. O. Box 22, Swanton.
