JEAN HOGAN CHENETTE

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. / SWANTON -- Jean Hogan Chenette, age 74, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, in Winter Haven, Fla., following an extended illness. She was born in St. Albans, July 29, 1929, daughter of the late John and Nellie Hogan.

She was recently a summer resident of West Swanton and lived in Winter Haven, Fla. for the past 20 years. Jean owned and operated a beauty salon for many years and was a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in Winter Haven. She was a volunteer at the Winter Haven Hospital for many years.

Her survivors include her faithful companion, Eugene Guthrie of Winter Haven; her granddaughter, Heather and grandson, Justin Chenette; her brothers and sisters and their spouses, John and Eileen Hogan of Newington, Conn., William Hogan of Davenport, Fla., Donald Hogan of Winter Haven, Fla., Patrick and Pauline Hogan of St. Albans, Joyce and Reginald Barkyoumb of Fairfax, Janice and Bern Hoben of Winter Haven, Fla., Patricia and Dr. Robert White of New London, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman "Nonnie" Chenette; and her son, Dr. Steven Chenette.

Memorial services will be held this spring, with interment in the Chenette family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Albans. Memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice of Auburndale, Fla., through the funeral home office, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

VERNON A. BOOMHOVER

ST. ALBANS -- Vernon Arthur Boomhover, 85, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 31, 2003, at The Arbors in Shelburne with his family by his side. He was born in St. Albans, April 23, 1918, the son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Hart) Boomhover. On April 1, 1938, in Swanton, he married Ilene Robistow, who predeceased him on Oct. 1, 1998.

Vernon was a longtime heavy equipment operator and mechanic for the Henry Nichols Construction Company in St. Albans and F. W. Whitcomb in Winooski.

Survivors include his son, William and his wife, Sheila Boomhover of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; his daughter, Barbara and her husband, John Barrett of Shelburne; 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Judy Boomhover, James and Lisa Boomhover, Vernon and Jill Boomhover, John and Debbie Boomhover, Kelly and Joe Hendricks, Scott and Nicole Boomhover, Kerry and Tom Scarpinato, Kathy and Tom Cleare, Joseph Barrett, Theresa Barrett, Michael Barrett, Timothy and Tracey Barrett and Brian Barrett. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Jackie (Boomhover) Desrochers of St. Albans; a sister, Thelma Isham of St. Albans; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Ilene, Vernon was predeceased by a son, Robert on Oct. 13, 1990; and sisters, Eleanor Heald on Sept. 25, 1994, and Elizabeth Lahue on Dec. 8, 2002.

We would like to thank the staff at The Arbors for the wonderful care extended to Vern and hospitality shown to his family during his stay.

A graveside funeral and committal service will be held this spring in the family lot at St. Albans Bay Cemetery at a time to be announced.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The Make A Wish Foundation of Vermont, 100 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vt. 05403.

REGIS L. GODIN

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Regis L. Godin, age 79, died at her home Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, following a brief illness. She was born in Woodstock on July 16, 1924, daughter of the late George and Grace (Bohanon) Woodley.

She was a secretary for Social Services in the State of Vermont offices for 19 years, retiring in 1987. She was married to Gerald B. Godin on May 26, 1948. Mr. Godin died July 18, 1993.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Denise and Arthur Bombardier of Barre, Bernard and Barbara Godin of Bennington, and Debra and George Stebbins of Sheldon; three granddaughters, Heather Godin, Morgan Stebbins, and Lori Bombardier; five grandsons, Kevin Bombardier, Michael Godin, Nathan, Landen and Nicholas Stebbins; her brother-in-law, Harry Stewart of San Diego, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by her sisters, Ivis Stewart and Doris Donahue.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans from 12:30 until the services, Monday. Interment will be in the Godin family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

ROYCE E. DEAN

ALBURG -- Royce E. Dean, 65, a lifelong resident of the Alburg community, died early Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, 2003, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction, Vt.

Born in Burlington, March 15, 1938, he was the son of the late Ralph and Lillian (Brow) Dean. He attended Alburg schools and graduated from Alburg High School.

Royce had been employed for 26 years with Harris Graphics in Champlain, N.Y. and more recently owned and operated his own business known as Island Machine. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church. In earlier years he had served with Alburg Fire and Rescue was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2684 and for many years played drums with The North Country Travelers. He will always be remembered as and avid sports fan and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing on his boat that he named Stress Reliever.

Royce faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was assigned to the American Land Middle East Forces in Lebanon. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 14, 1959. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1418 in Champlain, N.Y.

Royce leaves his loving companion Shelby Nugent of Alburg; three daughters and their husbands, Kimberley and Robert McDonough and their children, Liam, Michaela and Aislyn of Rouses Point, N.Y., Kelly and David Philbrick and their children, Brandon and Callan of South Burlington, and Krista and Stephen Piasecki and their daughter Maeve of Syracuse, N.Y. Also surviving is his sister, Phyllis Stata of Cheyenne, Wyoming; three nephews; and several cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 11 a.m. from St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Main Street in Alburg Village. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Dean family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, Vt. today, Jan. 2, 2004, from 6 to 9 p.m.

DONALD EDWARD ROOT

SWANTON -- Donald Edward Root, 72, a lifelong Swanton resident, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

Born in Swanton, July 18, 1931, he was the son of the late Lester A. and Frances E. (Stoliker) Root. He attended Swanton schools and the Community College of Vermont. On April 27, 1957, he married the former Dixie Downey, who survives him.

For 22 years Donald served in the United States Army and also spent several additional years in the Vermont Army National Guard. He was a veteran of both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton and the Disabled American Veterans. More recently he had been employed by the State of Vermont General Services Administration was a lifelong parishioner of the Memorial United Methodist Church and also a longtime member of 76 Lodge 14, F&A.M.

In addition to Dixie of Swanton, Donald leaves three stepchildren and their spouses, Sharon and David Holbrook of Swanton and Raymond and Ann Hakey and Terrance and Shirley Hakey all of Highgate. Also surviving are four sisters, Beatrice McDermott of West Swanton, Lucille Levick of Swanton Village, Ruth Palmer of Milton and Marion Wolcott of Swanton Village; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Sanborn and Ella Hakey; three brothers, Lester H. John B. and Alan R. Root; and a stepson, Mitchell E. Hakey.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at 1 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Interment will follow in the Root family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Members of the 76 Lodge #14 F&AM will conduct a Ritualistic Service on Sunday evening at 8 p.m.

CORA ESTELLE LITTLEFIELD

MILTON -- Cora E. Littlefield, 95, died peacefully early Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, 2003, at the Haven Health Care in St. Albans.

Cora was born in Colchester on July 12, 1908, the daughter of Arthur and Katherine ( McIntyre ) Newton. She was married to Harold Littlefield Sr. on Aug. 3, 1927. Together she and Harold worked very hard on their family farm in Milton.

She was a member of the United Church of Milton, of the Milton Grange and of the Home Dem. She loved playing bingo and enjoyed bus trips with Charlie to the casinos in Atlantic City and Montreal. In her earlier years Cora was a member of the Lucky Trail Riders, a horseback riding club based in Jericho.

Mrs. Littlefield is survived by her sons, Harold Littlefield Jr. and his wife Beverly of Milton, and Charles Littlefield and his wife Nancy of Milton. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Eugene Town of Milton; by her grandchildren Bruce, Patty, Pamela, Joan, Allen, Laurie, Cynthia, Kathleen and Scott; and by 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harold Sr.; her daughter Arlene Towne; and her brothers Miles and William Newton.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in the United Church of Milton at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the family lot in the Milton Village Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Milton Dinner Bell, P.O. Box 107, Milton, Vt. 05468.

Visiting hours will be held today, Jan. 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

BARBARA W. HICKEY

SOUTH HERO -- Barbara W. Hickey, age 79, died Dec. 30, 2003, at her daughter's home in South Hero. Born in St. Albans, she was the daughter of Walter and Bertha (Kennedy) Wry.

She attended local schools and graduated from St. Mary's High School in St. Albans in 1942. She worked for Fonda Container Company and was married to James E. Hickey, St. Albans, in 1948.

While raising her family, she lived in Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and New Hampshire. Since 1960, she called Goffstown, N.H. "home." She was a devout member of the St. Lawrence Church congregation in Goffstown for nearly 40 years where she volunteered in a range of parish activities. She was also a founding member of the Goffstown Gaelic Society. She was an Auxiliary member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Unit 219 in Malone, N.Y.

She was passionate about her family and spending her summers on Lake Champlain. She was especially fond of warm summer evenings and colorful sunsets on the lake. She was also a passionate Red Sox fan and avid fan of the New England Patriots.

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Gray of Enosburg Falls; her daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Michael Kirby of Malone, N.Y.; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Marilyn Hickey of Bedford; and daughter Colleen Hickey of South Hero; her two grandchildren, Melissa Funk, and her husband Mark of Rochester, N.Y., and Kyle Kirby and his wife Lisa of Lake Placid, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Carol Wry of Swanton; and six nieces and nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, James Hickey, in 1976; and her son, J. Patrick Hickey in 1995; and a brother Walter "Bud" Wry in 1989.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Interment will be held at a later date in Gardner, Maine.

Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Friday.) A memorial service will be held at St. Lawrence Church in the spring.

RICHARD ROBISTOW

JOHNSON -- Richard Robistow 75, died at his home in Johnson on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003. He was born in Canton, Mass. on March 18, 1928, the son of Suplene and Mavis (Holmes) Robistow.

Richard served his country in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952; he was a combat veteran in Korea earning the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was employed for over 25 years in Foxboro, Mass. for the Foxboro Company, a manufacturer of instruments. In 1979 he moved to Johnson where he made his home.

His survivors include his companion Irene Picknell and her children; his former wife Mary (Curren) Robistow; as well as two sons, Paul Robistow and Gary Robistow both of Massachusetts; three daughters, Debra Robistow of Johnson, Linda Tatro of Eden and Diane Olson of Wolcott; a sister, Joann Flanagan of Swanton; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home, Main Street, Johnson. A prayer service will be held at 6:40 p.m.

Spring interment will be in The Vermont Veterans Cemetery Randolph with full Military Honors.

Arrangements are under the direction of des Groseilliers Funeral Homes Johnson.

CARLETON FRANCIS LEMNAH

NEWPORT / ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Carleton Francis Lemnah, 80, of Newport and St. Albans, died peacefully on Dc. 31, 2003, in St. Albans. He was born on Sept. 2, 1923, in St. Albans, the son of the late Azos and Helen (Tabor) Lemnah.

On Oct. 5, 1950, he married the former Madalene Teague, who survives him. Mr. Lemnah was decorated with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals for his valor during World War II and the Korean War. He was a Custom's Officer for the U.S. Customs Service in Derby Line, Vt. for 35 years. He held membership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 798 of Newport.

Carleton is survived by his wife, Madalene Lemnah of St. Albans; and by the following children: Thomas Allan Lemnah of Burlington, Mark John Lemnah and his wife Francine of Westford, Carla Ann Lemnah-Warner and her husband James of Westfield, Mass., and Judith Louise Hayes and her husband Steven of Fairfax. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. Mr. Lemnah is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Marion Reynolds of St. Albans, Ruth Lemnah of Burlington, and Harold Lemnah of Swanton. He is survived by two sister-in-laws, Theresa Lemnah of St. Albans, and Myra Lemnah of Brandon; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Rae Lemnah; and by two brothers, and a sister, Alan and Robert Lemnah and Austine Desautels.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fairfield, with the Reverend Joseph Sullivan celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Spring interment will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fairfield with full military honors.
