STEPHEN A. ALDRICH

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Stephen A. Aldrich, age 47, died Thursday morning, Feb. 26, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in St. Albans, Oct. 30, 1956, son of the late Gerald and Leona (Pearo) Aldrich. He worked in maintenance for McDonalds here in St. Albans for over 20 years. He was a drummer for the bands Cartune, Second Avenue, and many others.

Stephen is survived by his two sons, Eric Stephen Aldrich and Justin Michael Aldrich, both of Swanton; his former wife and best friend, Rose Chaperon of Enosburg; his two sisters, Carol Gagne and her husband John (Pete) of Barre, and Shelley Maskell of Swanton; two step-brothers Ronald Gray of Seymore, Conn. and Gary Gray of Berwick, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Gerald in 1978; and his mother Leona in 1984.

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 1, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be in the spring in Greenwood Cemetery.

REGIS FLOYD VIENS

CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. / RICHFORD, Vt. -- Regis Floyd Viens, 81, died suddenly Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at his home, 6 Eden Lane, Champlain, N.Y.

Born in Richford, June 16, 1922, the son of Ulric and Valeda (Godin) Viens, he grew up in East Berkshire and Richford area, graduating in 1940 from Richford High School, where he was active in hockey, basketball, baseball, soccer, sang in the Glee Club, served on the Searchlight Board and A.A.A. Patrol, and was Class President. While in Richford, he was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, serving on the altar as a youth, and a member of the CYO. Following graduation he attended Regional Project School and took up map making and served on the Public Protection Committee at Quaddy, Maine, then went to Bridgeport, Conn. and worked for General Electric. In December, 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, served in both the ETO and PTO as a Radioman 3rd Class.

On Valentine's Day, 1946 he received his discharge and in November of 1946 he wed Margaret Maher of Youken, N.Y. In 1948 they moved to Richford and he and his brother, John, owned and operated the Bluebird Restaurant on Main Street until he became an Insurance Agent serving the area for 11 years until he went to work for the U.S. Customs at Dorval Airport, Montreal, a position he held there until 1976. When he returned to USA, he settled in Champlain, N.Y. and retired in 1988, with more than half of his 30 years having been in foreign service -- Nassau, Eleuthera, and the Bahamas.

His activities in organizations while residing in Richford were: member and commander of the American Legion, Pres. of Missisquoi Valley Rod and Gun Club, Pres. of Richford Country Club, member of Holy Name Society of All Saints Church and a 3rd Degree member of the K of C, also a member of the Richford Lions Club. While residing in Champlain, he was a member of St. Mary's Church, K of C, VFW, NARFE and International ARC. His hobbies were numerous: fishing, hunting, ham radio operating, coin collecting, playing golf and some skiing and skating. Vacation trips for he and his wife included to the French Riviera, Monaco, San Remo and Italy. As a member of the Cardinals Booster Club, he enjoyed cheering on the hockey teams.

He is survived by his wife and loving companion of 57 years, Margaret "Bib" Maher Viens; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Joanne Viens of Lachine, Que.; his daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Gary Wile of Suffolk, Va.; four grandchildren, Kaleigh Wiley and Christine, James and Nicole Viens; also by his sister, Theresa "Terry" and Bernard Murphy of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; a sister-in-law, Rita Viens of Rockford, Mich.; a brother-in-law, Gene Maher of Yonkers, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. His is predeceased by his brother, John Viens.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Jan. 16, at the St. Mary's Church, Champlain, N.Y. Burial will be held in May.

Friends wishing to remember Regis Floyd Viens may make memorial contributions to the Champlain, N.Y. Fire Department.

HELEN MADELINE VALIQUETTE

ALBURG -- Mrs. Helen Madeline Valiquette, 76, a longtime resident of the Alburg community, died early Wednesday evening in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

Born in Rochester, N.Y. on, Nov. 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Leopold and Mary (Pergozi) Angora. She attended schools in the Rochester area and was married to Eugene Valiquette who predeceased her.

Helen was an extremely cooperative and well-liked lady. She will be fondly remembered for her devotion to St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Parish and for her assistance with many of the parish functions.

She leaves her close friend of 27 years, Joanne Shedrick of Alburg, several nieces and nephews and her extended family within the St. Amadeus Parish community.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at 10 a.m. from St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Alburg Village. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in St. Amadeus Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.

Gifts in Helen's memory may be made to St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Parish, in care of Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, Main Street, Alburg, Vt. 05440.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, Vt. 05488.

MARIE FORDMAN

FRANKLIN -- Marie Fordman, 60, a resident of Lake Road in Franklin, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 17, 2004, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Jan. 1, 1944, the daughter of the late Edwin and Bertha (Oryell) Fordman and attended Plattsburgh schools.

In earlier years Marie worked as a security guard and for the police department in Schenectady, N.Y.

She leaves her four sons, Walter and Timothy of Schenectady, N.Y., John stationed with the United States Army in Ft. Sill Oklahoma and Buck of Highgate; four daughters, Mary of Arkansas, Dale of Schenectady, Dawn of Highgate and Starr of Swanton; a sister, Bertha Fordman of New York; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters and her longtime companion Howard Vanselette.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at 12 noon from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE pastor of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Grand Isle Village Cemetery receiving vault to await interment in the spring.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

PATRICIA J. CHADWICK

SHELDON -- Patricia J. Chadwick, age 72, passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born in East Fairfield, March 19, 1931, the daughter of Florence (Marshia) Nolan and the late Francis Nolan.

She was a resident of Sheldon most of her life and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She was employed at Century International Arms in Georgia since 1987 where she was known to her co-workers as "Granny." She enjoyed BINGO, gambling, shopping, lawn sales and eating out.

She was affectionately known as "Nanny" to her family, and she is survived by her mother, Florence Nolan of Enosburg Falls; one son, Gary Chadwick and his wife Patsy; two daughters and their husbands, Marsha and Larry Demar, and Brenda and Craig Elliott all of Sheldon; one brother and his wife, Arnold and Diane Lagrow of Franklin; one sister, Frances Green of Enosburg Falls; a special sister-in-law, Amelia Nolan of Sheldon; four grandchildren and their spouses, Josie and Patrick Gregoire of Enosburg Falls, Jeremy and Erica Demar of Virginia Beach, Va., JoAnn and Moe Mulheron of St. Albans, and Jenny and Jamie Hemond of Lebanon, N.H.; three great-grandchildren, Alexis Demar, Kody Gregoire, and Christopher Mulheron; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her father she was predeceased by her husband, Robert M. Chadwick; and a brother, Leo Nolan

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Reverend Bernard Bechard officiating. Interment will be held later next spring in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Sheldon.

Relatives and friends may call on the family at the funeral home Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

DONALD ANTHONY MANSKE

ST. ALBANS/ DADE CITY, Fla. -- Donald Anthony Manske, age 68, of St. Albans and winter resident of Dade City, Fla., died on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at East Pasco Medical Center in Zephyrhills, Fla. He was born on July 10, 1935, in Crosby, Minn. to Fred and Mae (Dosch) Manske.

Donald retired in 1998 from The Fonda Group as a financial officer with 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Albans. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, Eagle's Club and the Champlain Country Club, all in St. Albans.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Noreen; two sons and daughter-in-law, Troy and Sandy Manske of Buffalo, N.Y., and Greg Manske of Burlington; one brother, Robert Manske of Little Falls, Minn.; one sister, Rosemary Caven of Wisconsin; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Jackson Manske, both of Buffalo, N.Y.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby with Father Howard Eisel officiating. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby, Minn. Friends may call on Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.

Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

GUDNY MARIE HANSEN

SOUTH ALBURG -- Mrs. Gudny Marie Hansen, 84, a resident of the South Alburg Community since 1951, died Sunday morning, Feb. 15, 2004, at Redstone Villa in St. Albans City.

A native of Copenhagen Denmark she was born Feb. 1, 1920, the daughter of the late Theodor and Inger Madsen, and came to the United States in 1949. On March 24, 1949, she married Robert V. Hansen from Denmark who predeceased her on Aug. 2, 2000. She had been a longtime devoted member of the South Alburg United Methodist Church.

Our mom was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, and was physically fit. She rode her bicycle and went on six-mile walks through the age of 80. She was an exceptional baker and cook and loved to make meals and desserts for friends, church and family. Mom was frequently a volunteer caregiver for the elderly and those in need of assistance. Having a sweet disposition, a great sense of humor and a huge heart, she generously and lovingly gave of herself and her time throughout her life. Heaven has found the best angel of all and we miss her.

Mrs. Hansen leaves her son, Paul Hansen of South Alburg; and two daughters, Mary Ann Mogerley and her husband Steven of Long Valley, N.J. and Connie Lee Forbes and her husband Kenneth of Stowe; six grandchildren, Eric, Neil and Kevin Mogerley, David and Stephen Hansen and Alexandra Marie Forbes; six great-grandchildren, Bradley, Amanda, Alyssa and Riley Hansen and Kai and Chloe Hansen; a beloved sister, Konny Jacobson of Denmark; and two daughters-in-law, Florence Hansen of Champlain, N.Y. and Beatrice Hansen of Isle La Motte; and many nieces and nephews in Denmark.

She was predeceased by her two sons, Henry in 1996 and John in 2001.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at 12 noon from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. The Reverend Howard Parish will officiate. Interment will be in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening, Feb. 20, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the Memorial Service.

GERALDINE "DEAN" LEAHY

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Geraldine "Dean" Leahy, age 83, died Monday evening, Feb. 16, 2004, at her home. She was born in St. Albans, Aug. 3, 1920, daughter of the late Jesse and Rose (Chagnon) Sweeney.

During the war years Dean managed a shoe store in Plattsburgh, N.Y. and later was a saleslady at the William Doolin & Company Shoe Store in St. Albans for several years. She was married to Guy Mitchell, who died May 23, 1971. In 1982, she married Thomas "Tim" Leahy, who predeceased her May 25, 1985.

Dean is survived by her stepson and his wife, Edward and Jane Leahy, and their children Kevin, Jason and Elizabeth Leahy of St. Albans; a stepdaughter and her husband, Eileen and Jeffrey Wolff, and their children Jeffrey and Jennifer of Coral Springs, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Gert Sweeney, and a very special friend and neighbor Eleanor and her husband Raymond Luneau; and several nieces and nephews, including Sally and her husband Dick Osman of Deerfield, Ill., David and his wife Katie Connell of Ladue, Mo., Roland and his wife Barbara Barlow of Greenwood, S.C., Ronald and his wife Win Barrett of Torrance, Calif., Gary and his wife Judy Sweeney of Fairfax, Wayne and his wife Rita Sweeney of St. Albans, Judy and her husband David Gaudette of Swanton, and Peter and his wife Karen Sweeney of Jeffersonville. Besides her husbands, she was predeceased by her infant son, Keith Mitchell in 1943; and her five sisters and brothers, Harrison Sweeney, Leo "Pete" Sweeney, Doris Barlow, Leona Helias, and Loretta Connell.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans from 9:30 until the service time, Friday. Interment will be in the Sweeney family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Meals on Wheels Program, Franklin County Senior Center, Champlain Valley Agency on Aging Nutrition Center, 75 Messenger St., St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or American Cancer Society, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05495.
