LINDA ANN ELIZABETH BEAUREGARD

BERKSHIRE -- Linda Ann Elizabeth Beauregard, age 33, passed away Tuesday morning, May 11, 2004, at her home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Jan. 19, 1971, in St. Albans, the daughter of Hilaire and Gisele (Gagne) Beauregard.

Linda was a 1989 graduate of Missisquoi Valley Union High School in Swanton and participated in the foreign exchange program in Stuttgart, Germany in her senior year. Following high school she attended McGill University in Montreal. In 1991 Linda moved to Colorado and attended Colorado State University and worked as a land surveyor until 1999. While living in Colorado she gave birth to her son, Ari, on April 18, 1997. In July of 2000 Linda graduated from the Florida School of Massage with a certificate in massage and hydrotherapy at which time she started her own business as a massage therapist in Orlando and Gainesville, Fla. In December of 2003 Linda moved to Vermont to be surrounded by her friends and family.

The center of her life and her pride and joy was caring for her loving son Ari. Linda will be remembered as being a loving and nurturing mother. She was a true animal and nature lover with particular interest in horses, gardening, the outdoors and camping and was a gifted natural artistic talent

She is survived by her son, Ari Ryan Kiley Beauregard of Berkshire; her parents, Hilaire and Gisele Beauregard of Berkshire; her sister and her husband, Mary and Lance Early of Montgomery; her brother and his wife, Steven and Catherine Beauregard and their children, Amanda, Olivia, and Sean all of Fairfield; her step-grandmother, Lizette Beauregard of Montreal, Que. Canada; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Donat and Eva (Chauvette) Gagne; her maternal grandparents, Jean and Olivette (Gilbert) Beauregard.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, May 14, 2004, at 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Reverend Benedict Kiely celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls

PAUL EMILE QUINTIN

NORTH HERO -- Paul Emile Quintin, 81, a longtime resident of North Hero, died Monday afternoon, May 10, 2004, in the Haven Health Care Center in St. Albans Town.

Born in Bedford, Quebec Canada, July 4, 1922, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Olivine (Hebert) Quintin. He attended schools in Canada and in 1945 was married to the former Madeleine Rainville who predeceased him in 1983.

For all of his working life Paul has been involved in farming and since 1956 owned and operated Elm Point Farm and Cottages in North Hero. An active member of the North Hero community he served the town as Road Commissioner and School Director, was a member of the North Hero Volunteer Fire Department and for many years was the chairperson of the North Hero Cemetery Commission. He was a longtime member of St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2684 in Alburg.

Paul leaves three sons and their wives, Guy and Judy Quintin, John and Estelle Quintin and Yves and Billie Jean Quintin all of North Hero; his grandchildren, Kathy Coburn and her husband Travis, Chris Quintin and his wife Jeannie, Andre Quintin, Donald Quintin and his wife Melinda and Marie Quintin; one sister, Mrs. Rachel LaBounty of Phillipsburg, Quebec; and his close friend and companion Mary Morris of Junction City, Oregon

In addition to his wife Madeleine he was predeceased many years ago by a daughter, Jeannine Quintin.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial from St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church will be private. Interment will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.

Gifts in Paul's memory may be made to the North Hero Fire Department, P.O. Box 132, North Hero, Vt. 05474, or to Grand Isle Rescue, Faywood Road, Grand Isle, Vt. 05458.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton.

ALBERT W. RICH

FAIRFAX -- Albert W. Rich, 97, a lifelong Fairfax resident and the oldest Licensed Vermont Funeral Director and Embalmer, died early Sunday morning, May 9, 2004, in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City.

Born in Fairfax, April 18, 1907, he was the son of the late Bert and Rhoda (Learned) Rich. He attended Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax graduating in the Class of 1925. On Aug. 23, 1928, he married the former Harriet Wilkins who predeceased him, March 9, 1992, after 63 years of marriage.

Albert began his 73 year career in funeral service in 1928. Following his graduation from the Simmonds College of Embalming and Funeral Directing in Syracuse, New York, he began a long association with the Hicks Funeral Home of Fairfax and St. Albans. In 1947 he purchased the Fairfax business, which became known as the A. W. Rich Funeral Home that he and his wife Harriet operated until their retirement in 1971. In 1975 he became associated with Kidder Memorial Home in Swanton, an important association that was still very much a part of his everyday life. He was a longtime member and Chairman of the Vermont Board of Funeral Service, member and Past President of the Vermont Funeral Director's Association and a member of the National Funeral Director's Association.

He was extremely active in the Fairfax community serving local government in many capacities including, several years on the Town Select board, the Board of Civil Authority, Zoning Board, Town Service Officer, was a Justice of the Peace and was currently still serving as a Trustee of Bellows Free Academy. He was also active in the process of the Town Sewer installation, has been President of the Fairfax Cemetery Association and a seventy-three year member of Lamoille Lodge No. 6 F. & A.M., a member of the United Church of Fairfax and the Fairfax Historical Society. Albert was one of the original members and organizers of the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department and served as chief for 14 years.

Albert leaves his brother, Robert Rich of Fairfax; and many nieces and nephews including, Robert and Linda Howard of Fairfax, Linda and Dick McNall of Fairfax, Susan Flanders and her friend Ed Lambert of St. Albans, Reginald and Pat Broe of Fairfax, Jeffrey and Laurie Broe of Georgia, Gregory Broe of South Burlington, Eleanor and John Cross of Fletcher, Gary and Ann Broe of Fletcher, Bert and Laurie Broe of Jeffersonville, Michael and Vickie Broe of Westford, Frank Rich of Juneau, Alaska, Bert and Kathy Rich of Nashua, New Hampshire, Beverley Rich Carter of Florida, Laura and James Woodward, Sally and Wayne Sweet, Nancy and Brian Barrows and Robert and Sheryl Wilkins all of Fairfax; as well as several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Harriet, Albert was predeceased by his brothers, Hiram and Carl Rich; his sisters, Nellie Broe and Helen Howard; and a niece Betsy Rich.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at 11 a.m. from the United Church of Fairfax with The Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the Rich family lot in the Sanderson Corners Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, Main Street, Fairfax Village on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers gifts in Albert's memory may be made to the United Church of Fairfax, in care of Sally Sweet Treasurer 44 Sweet-Slattery Road, East Fairfield, Vt. 05448 or to the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department, 1-101 Goodall Road, Fairfax, Vt. 05454.

VERNON A. BOOMHOVER

ST. ALBANS -- Vernon Arthur Boomhover, 85, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 31, 2003, at The Arbors in Shelburne with his family by his side. He was born in St. Albans, April 23, 1918, the son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Hart) Boomhover. On April 1, 1938, in Swanton, he married Ilene Robistow who predeceased him on October 1, 1998.

Vernon was a longtime heavy equipment operator and mechanic for the Henry Nichols Construction Company in St. Albans and F. W. Whitcomb in Winooski.

Survivors include his son, William and his wife, Sheila Boomhover of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; his daughter, Barbara and her husband, John Barrett of Shelburne; 13 grandchildren and their spouses; Judy Boomhover, James and Lisa Boomhover, Vernon and Jill Boomhover, John and Debbie Boomhover, Kelly and Joe Hendricks, Scott and Nicole Boomhover, Kerry and Tom Scarpinato, Kathy and Tom Cleare, Joseph Barrett, Theresa Barrett, Michael Barrett, Timothy and Tracey Barrett and Brian Barrett. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Jackie (Boomhover) Desrochers of St. Albans; a sister, Thelma Isham of St. Albans; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Ilene, Vernon was predeceased by a son, Robert on Oct. 13, 1990, and sisters, Eleanor Heald on Sept. 25, 1994, and Elizabeth Lahue on Dec. 8, 2002.

A graveside funeral and committal service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery with Pastor William Simmons of the First Baptist Church officiating.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The Make A Wish Foundation of Vermont, 100 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vt. 05403.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home 87 South Main Street.

KENNETH R. BOOKER, SR.

ST. ALBANS -- Kenneth R. Booker, Sr., 62, a long time resident of this area, passed away on his birthday, May 8, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center with his loving family at his side. He was born in Brentwood, N. H., May 8, 1942, the son of Harry A. and Gladys (Beatham) Booker.

Ken was employed as a carpenter and mason with Kenneth Adams Construction Company for more than 20 years. In his spare time he enjoyed knitting.

Survivors include his three sons and their wives, Kenneth, Jr. and Shelly Booker of Essex Junction, Todd and Trudy Booker of Alburg and Scott and Melissa Booker of Sheldon; two daughters, Tammy Booker and her fiance Peter Leary of Swanton and Crystal and David Solomon of Swanton; three sisters, Phyllis Hatch, Maxine Beairsto and her husband, Whitey and Ruth McIlvine all of New Hampshire and a brother Cedric Booker of Pennsylvania; 20 grandchildren, Debra, Heather, Jennifer and Emily Booker, Todd Booker, Jr., Cindy Booker, Bruce and Michael Tatro, Laurie and Eric Paradee, Naomi Williams, John Williams, Jr., Dylan and Tyler Leary, Kylie Brown, Amanda and Ashley Booker, Jerry Williams, Jr.; and Noah and Cole Booker; one great-granddaughter, Cricket Paradee; his former wife, Janet M. Booker; his former mother-in-law, Geraldine Adams both of St., Albans; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by four brothers, Lindsey, Alton, Hubert and Lori; and three sisters, Josephine Smith, Lucille Aldrich and Freida O'Connor.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Georgia United Methodist Church with Pastor Sam Newton officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Georgia Plain Cemetery. A reception and luncheon for family and friends will follow in the church fellowship hall hosted by the ladies of the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framiingham, Mass. 01701-4688 or the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, Conn. 06150-1160.

Ken's family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street.

MARK P. BEAUREGARD

ST. ALBANS/BURLINGTON - Mark P. Beauregard, 49, died unexpectedly at his home in Burlington on Thursday, May 6, 2004. He was born in St. Albans, April 23, 1955, the son of Stanley and Jacquelyn (Fortin) Beauregard.

Besides his parents, Mark is survived by three children, Julia and Justice Beauregard of Morrisville and Darcy Ward of Old Orchard, Maine; two sisters; Lisa Richard and husband, Rick of Clinton, Conn. and Karen Louise Trahan of Burlington; three brothers, Robert of Oakley, Calif., Eric of St. Albans, and Stanley, Jr. of Jeffersonville, Vt. He also leaves an aunt and uncle, Marcia and Dale Coon of St. Albans; several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Herbert and Marjorie Fortin of St. Albans; his paternal grandparents, Fred and Adrienne Beauregard also of St. Albans; and an uncle, Gerald Beauregard, also of the city. Another uncle, Robert, died as the result of injuries suffered when he was struck by a truck at the age of seven.

For the past several years, Mark was associated with the food bank of Chittenden County. Prior to that, he was employed as a chef in eateries throughout northern Vermont and New York State. His abilities as a chef were also enjoyed at many public and private banquets in the area.

Mark had a quick wit and sense of humor that colleagues and associates found enjoyable and entertaining. He leaves behind many friends in the area, especially Ron and Marie of St. Albans and John and Bill of Burlington.

Mark spent many happy hours fishing with friends and playing the guitar. He was an avid cyclist and cribbage player, especially when he was winning. His beautiful smile will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at 1 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Judy Kennedy of the First Congregational Church officiating. Mark's family will receive friends and relatives from noon until the time of the service.

LEONARD K. MALISKA

SWANTON, Vt. / SOUTHPORT, Maine -- Leonard Karol (Lenny) Maliska, 86, died peacefully late Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vt., feeling the loving support of his family all around him.

He was born on June 1, 1917, in Brockton, Mass., to Karol and Amelia (Kundicz) Maliska. Lenny grew up in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School in 1937. After graduation, he went to work at Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Mass. On April 4, 1942, he married Jane Brooks MacKnight in the All Saints Episcopal Church in Belmont. He attended night classes at Northeastern University in Boston to study accounting. He also attended night school at MIT in Cambridge to study safety engineering. He was drafted into the Army in 1944, but never served due to medical reasons. After World War II, Lenny joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he protected the Boston Harbor submarine net. He was with the Hingham Flotilla 508 and served with the auxiliary for 42 years.

After living in Brockton for three years, Lenny and his new family moved to Camden, Maine. He began working for the New England Telephone Company, where he was a long-distance cable splicer for 33 years. He traveled the state of Maine working on telephone lines in all kinds of weather and in all kinds of locations. Lenny joined the Wawenock Power Squadron in Damariscotta, Maine, studied radar and ship piloting.

Lenny was active in St. Thomas's Episcopal Church in Camden as assistant treasurer, vestry member, Junior Warden and Senior Warden. He was the President of the Camden Snow Bowl for 8 years in the 1950's. Through his Coast Guard affiliation, and with the help of many Coast Guardsmen of the Buoy Tender, Laurel, out of Rockland, he implemented the rebuilding of the 200 foot toboggan shoot.

Lenny was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of Kennebec Council. He was president for one year, Member at Large for State of Maine Pioneers, and current member of Retired Telephone Pioneers. He was a Mason with Amity Lodge 6 in Camden. He retired from New England Telephone in 1978. He and Jane sold their Camden home and retired to Capitol Island/Southport, Maine in 1979. They began wintering in Florida in 1979 and continued until 2000 when Lenny's health began failing. Lenny loved bowling, golfing, boating, fishing, hunting, watching sports, riding his bike, and especially tending to his vegetables and flowers. He belonged to the Polish-American Club in Barefoot Bay, Florida, and attended St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Sebastian. Was one of the founding families of the church where he was a lay reader and usher. While still being able to summer in Maine, they wintered in their new home in Swanton, Vt.

He is survived by Jane, his wife of 62 years; his two children, son Leonard Karol Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Doylestown, Penn., and daughter Sarah Stuart and husband, James, of Georgia, Vt.; brother Christopher Maliska of Winter Park, Fla., and sister Lorraine Callahan of East Bridgewater, Mass.; four grandchildren, Geoffrey and Erik Maliska of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., Jennifer Stuart Wells of Georgia, Vt., and Melissa Stuart of Burlington, Vt.; and two great-grandchildren, Hailey Blondin of Burlington and Cassidy Wells of Georgia.

There will be no visiting hours or funeral service in Vermont. There will be a Burial Service in Maine the second week of July.

For those who wish, contributions in Lenny's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

Arrangements have been under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, Vt.

KATHERINE PATRICIA WEIS

ST. ALBANS -- Katherine Patricia Weis, 92, a resident for the past 20 years, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Northwestern Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in New York City on July 24, 1911, the daughter of the late William O. and Esther A. (Miner) Weis.

Miss Weis was an administrator for the U. S. Health and Education Agency in Washington, D.C. for many years. She was a graduate of the University of Vermont.

Survivors include a sister, Pauline A. Brown of St. Albans Bay; two nephews, P. Gregory Brown of St. Albans and Gary D. Brown of St. Albans Bay; and a cousin, Donald E. Miner and his wife Stephanie of St. Albans. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Clarence Brown in 1990.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Leonidas B. Laroche officiating. Interment will be in the Weis family lot at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral.

The Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street is assisting the family with arrangements.
