LEONIDAS "LEE" DONALD MAGNAN

MONTPELIER -- Leonidas "Lee" Donald Magnan, age 85, of 75 Freedom Drive, Montpelier, Vt., died peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones. He was born in St. Alexis, Quebec on March 16, 1919, the son of Leonidas and Anna (Perreault) Magnan.

Lee served in the Army (143rd Division, Headquarters) during World War II having been decorated with several medals including the Bronze Star for services performed in the Pacific Theater.

Lee had a long career with the railroad including CN, CV, St. J & LC, and retired from Amtrak in 1982. Lee was a dedicated citizen having been a member of several organizations performing volunteer services in both St. Albans and Montpelier.

Lee enjoyed being with family and friends on any occasion. He is survived by his wife Loretta of 57 years; daughter-in-law Julie (Branon) Magnan of Shelburne; Mary Ann and husband Wayne LaRock of Hyde Park; Beth and husband Michael Hulbert of Barre; Paul and his wife Mary Jane (Wobby) of Barre; Chris and his wife Steph (Beloin) of Barre; 15 grandchildren: Lori, Keith, Jeremy, Serena, Jennifer, Joanne, Joey, Travis, Andee, Jarah, Meagan, Josh, Samantha, Curtis, and Cailey; five great-grandchildren: Cole, Juliana, Jacob, Marlie, Hannah, and three on the way. Lee is also survived by brother Henry and wife Loretta, sisters Laurentia, Gertrude, and Monica.

Lee was predeceased by his son David (1948-2002); and brothers Euclid, Napolean, Joseph.

Memorial Mass will be held at St. Augustine's Church in Montpelier on Saturday, July 10, 2004, at 11 a.m. A reception following the service will be in lieu of calling hours.

A private service with the family will be held at the Veteran's Cemetery in Randolph where Lee will rest in peace.

Lee was a great man, husband, father, grampy, great-grampy, father-in-law, friend and co-worker. He will be greatly missed; his memory and values will forever be in our memories.

ROBERT W. BILLADO

RICHFORD -- Robert W. Billado, age 83, passed away Monday, July 5, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans with his loving family at his side.

He was born Feb. 23, 1921, in Enosburg Falls, the son of the late Clyde W. and Olive M. (Stanhope) Billado.

He was a resident of Enosburg Falls most of his life and for the past 12 years made his home in Richford. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving in Germany where he was a survivor of a P.O.W. Camp and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He started his working career as a laborer for the Bates Monument Co. in Enosburg Falls. He then worked as the general manager of the American Legion Post 42 of Enosburg Falls. He also was a construction Worker for S.T. Griswold Construction which later became Layfayette Construction Co. In his last employment he owned and operated Billado's Citgo in Enosburg Falls. He was a member of the American Legion Post 12 of Richford and the D.A.V. Jay Peak Chapter 16.

Bob had a large collection of watches and clocks and enjoyed attending yard sales. He enjoyed music, playing the harmonica, accordion, organ and hunting. He also loved his animals, but most of all he loved and cherished his family whom he was always there for. They could not have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather or great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Velma (LaFrance) Billado of Richford, they were married July 12, 1944, and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year; three sons, Robert Billado Jr. and his wife Theresa of Whitehall, N.Y., Jeffrey Billado of Enosburg Falls, and Ricky Billado of Richford; eight daughters and their spouses, Carolyn and John Cooper of Enosburg Falls, Diana and Arnold Lagrow of Franklin, Connie and William Barton of Goldsboro, N.C., Susan Rice of Marietta, Ga., Ruth and Frederick Cooper Sr. of Franklin, Joyce Billado of Enosburg Falls, Doreen and Ernest Corey of Franklin, and Tammy and James Gendron of Richford; 34 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and three soon to be born great-grandchildren; his brother, Charles Billado and his wife Lorraine of Albany, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; his brothers-in-law, Harlan LaFrance and his wife Florence, Carlton LaFrance and his wife Bertha, and twins, Lawrence and Lewis LaFrance all of Highgate; and his cats Midget, Muffin and Squaker. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a grandson, John Cooper Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Jordan Callan; two brothers, Donald Billado, and Clyde Billado Jr; a sister, Marguerite Simmons; and his cat, Missy.

Funerals services will be held Friday, July 9, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.

KEVIN C. RUSHLOW

BURLINGTON -- Kevin C. Rushlow, age 51, passed away Monday, July 5, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Kevin was born in St. Albans, Dec. 18, 1952, the son of Lyle and Joyce (Lumbra) Rushlow.

Kevin worked as a handy man in the area. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, Barbecue's, baseball, watching T.V., and fishing.

He is survived by his parents, Lyle and Joyce Rushlow of Milton; his sisters, Pamela Rushlow of St. Albans, and Melody Rushlow of Los Angles, Calif.; four brothers, Kim Rushlow and his wife Holly of Richford, Kurt Rushlow of Kileen, Texas, Kent Rushlow and his wife Robin of Franklin, and Kris Rushlow of Milton; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Keith and Kerry Rushlow.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford, Vt. Interment will follow in the family lot at All Saints Cemetery in Richford.

A time of visitation will be held Saturday at the Spears Funeral Home in Richford from 11 am. until the hour of the funeral.

PRISCILLA ALTHEA REYNOLDS

GEORGIA -- Priscilla Althea Reynolds, 81, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2004, shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center. She was born on Nov. 27, 1922, in St. Albans, the daughter of the late Arthur and Mable (Newton) Reynolds.

She was a member of the Georgia United Methodist Church and a former member of the Banner Grange in Georgia.

Survivors include her sister, Catherine R. Earle; her sister-in-law, Sylvia C. Reynolds, both of St. Albans; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by three brothers, Jackson S. Reynolds on May 29, 1960, Seth B. Reynolds on April 13, 1987 and Eldon A. Reynolds on Dec. 9, 1995; and two sisters, Evva R. Wright on July 7, 1989 and Arthella R. Wood on Nov. 15, 1991.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. from the Georgia United Methodist Church, Ethan Allen Highway, Georgia Center with Pastor Sam Newton officiating. Priscilla's family will receive friends on Friday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Reynolds family lot in Georgia Plain Cemetery.

KENNETH GOODENOUGH

ST. ALBANS -- A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Kenneth Goodenough on Friday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy was the celebrant, assisted by altar servers Maynard Gosselin and Russell Porwitzky. Sister Cecile LeBeau read the Holy Scripture Lessons. Mary Jo Gillilan was the organist and soloist. Mr. James Fendley played "Amazing Grace" and "The Wabash Canon Ball" on his violin. Mr. Thomas Horner wrote and read a poem entitled "A Tail Gunners Prayer."

A Guard of Honor was present from the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1. Attending were representatives of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert Glidden Post 758, Auxiliary Units of Post 1 and Post 758, Vermont Fiddlers Association, Franklin County Home Health Agency, C & R Residential Care Home, Northwestern Medical Center, Central Vermont Veterans Association, Garceau Electric, Stanislaus Construction, Peoples Trust Bank, Office Quarters and many Lower Welden Street and Edward Street neighbors.

Bearers were Ken's grandchildren, Christina Chase, Lexi Chase, Erica Edwards, Douglas Edwards Jr., Paul Norcross and Edward Swoyer.

Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy, the American Legion Honor Guard saluted their fallen fellow veteran, and Americanism Officer James Brouillette presented the American Flag to Ken's wife, Jeannine Goodenough. Interment took place in the Goodenough/Norcross family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Thursday evening Father Vincent Anunguo, Associate Pastor of Holy Angels, held a Christian Wake Service with Ken's family and friends in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

GEORGE D. FLEURY & ANNA K. FLEURY

ISLE LA MOTTE -- The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, July 2, 2004, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of St. Anne's Shrine. Father Brian J. Cummings, SSE was the celebrant and homilist. Rev. Alan Vincelette assisted as Deacon. George Fleury's brother Alan served as Minister of the Altar. Connie Boutin, Carol Michaels and Patricia Mitiguy also served as Eucharistic Ministers. Music was provided by members of the Isle La Motte and North Hero Community Choirs under the direction of Jerome Monachino and Rose Bacon and accompanied by organist Armand Messier and bass player Pat Ormiston. Longtime family friend and neighbor Deborah Laporte shared very special words of remembrance. The Old Testament Reading was proclaimed by Sandra Kinney and The New Testament Reading by Duane Langlois. Mark Fleury, a nephew of George and Anna, and his wife, Barbara, presented The Offertory Gifts.

Among the many delegations in attendance were representatives from the: U.S. Postal Service, Robare's Harbor Store, Chittenden Bank, Banknorth, Daughters of Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Sisters of Providence, Town Offices from Isle La Motte, Alburg, North Hero, Grand Isle, South Hero and Swanton, Poissant Auto, Ed Bousquet Carpentry and Handyman Service, Sondick Supply Co., F. Deringer, Halls Orchards, Isle La Motte Country Store, Aqua Vista Cabins, Hannaford's, Vermont State Police and Vermont Precision Tools.

The Grand Isle County Sheriff's Department, led by Sheriff Connie Allen, provided escorts for the funeral cortege and assisted with traffic control and parking. Following the liturgy, the funeral procession passed by the Isle La Motte Fire Station and members of Isle La Motte, Alburg, Grand Isle, North Hero, South Hero and Rouses Point Fire and Rescue sounded the final alarm. Interment followed in the Fleury family lot in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery, with Father Cumming reading the committal prayers.

The bearers were, Bruce Noble Sr., Ravi Velappan, Jeff Ashline, A.J. James, David Savage, Junior Sturgeon, Jerry Bonneville, Keith Bonneville, Dan Fitzgerald, Tony Jarvis, Jim Giroux and Jim Melanson. Full Military Honors accorded the deceased's by members of the Vermont Army National Guard Honor Guard Team. Members of the Firing Squad were, SSG Raymond LeGrand, SSG Michael Byers, SSG Brad Ripley, SGT Matthew Kelleher, SGT Shaun Butler, SGT Andrew Conley, SPC Justin Wilson and SPC Emmanuel Gagne. The two American Flags, which draped the caskets of the United States Air Force Veterans caskets, was folded by, SFC John Boardman and SSG Michael Mayo and presented to the Fleury's children Raymond, Bernadette and Richard by 1st LT Jesse Remmey. Bugler SPC Wendy Krueger sounded Taps.

Following the committal services a luncheon reception was served for family and friends in the St. Anne's Shrine Cafeteria Building hosted by the shrine staff and many volunteers.

A special thank you to the Ready Funeral Home and Mr. Thomas Senical for providing the second funeral coach and for their assistance with the services.

GORDON G. ST. PIERRE

FAIRFIELD -- Gordon G. St. Pierre, 80, lifelong area resident, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Northwestern Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Fairfield, Vt. on Sept. 19, 1923, the son of the late Edward and Mary (Bessette) St. Pierre. In 1947, he married the former Arieta "Rita" Boomhower, who predeceased him on June 19, 1994.

Gordon was a heavy equipment operator and operated St. Pierre Construction and for the last several years helped his sons in their excavating businesses. He enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and especially enjoyed the spring of the year, because the maple sugar season started.

Survivors include his five children, Judy DuClos and Verne of Braintree, Richard "Joe" St. Pierre and Nancy Ballantine, Terry St. Pierre and Gail, Roy St. Pierre and Catherine and Kenneth St. Pierre and Shelly, all of Fairfield; six grandchildren, Lisa Coon and Gary, Jeremy St. Pierre, Shelly St. Pierre, Anthony St. Pierre, Kelly St. Pierre, and Todd St. Pierre; one great-granddaughter, Sadie Coon; a sister, Pat Kinney and her husband Keith of St. Albans; a brother, Wilfred St. Pierre and his wife, Doris of Fairfield; a sister-in-law, Mary St. Pierre of Fairfield; his special friend and care giver, Elizabeth Wilson of Fairfield; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Arieta, he was predeceased by two brothers, Horace and Walter St. Pierre; and two sisters, Ella St. Pierre Royea and Evelyn St. Pierre Perkins.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at 1 p.m. from the Church of the Rock, Route 104, St. Albans. Interment will follow in the family lot in Sheldon Village Cemetery. Gordon's family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.

DOUGLAS (DOUG) ALLEN SAFFORD

FAIRFIELD -- Douglas (Doug) Allen Safford, age 82, a lifelong resident of the Fairfield community, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, June 30, 2004. He was born in Foxboro, Mass. on May 27, 1922, son of the late Morton P. and Irma (Adams) Safford. On Oct. 12, 1946, in St. Albans, Doug married Margaret M. Hewitt, who survives him.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in the Army Air Corp. He was a member of the Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion, as well as a member of the East Fairfield Congregational Church. Doug retired in 1972 from the Central Vermont Railway after many years as a carman.

His greatest love was for his family, church and community. His best times were spent in his wood shop, in his garden, or on Lake Champlain fishing.

Doug enjoyed his daily visits to the post office and the local country store to feed Ellie Mae and Gypsy their dog biscuits. He will always be remembered for his kind heart and big smile.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Margaret (Peg) (Hewitt) Safford of Fairfield; his sister, Kay McCormack of Agawam, Mass.; his children, Cynthia E. Davis and her husband Michael of Clovis, Calif., Mary Lemmer of Denver, Colo., Steven J. Safford and his wife Suzanne of Westford, Vt., Heidi Richard and her husband Daniel of St. Albans; five grandchildren, Eric Paré, Nicolas Safford, Kamie and Kelsey Richard and Hannah Lemmer. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Ann Baker.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at 1 p.m. from the East Fairfield Congregational Church with Pastor Marshall True officiating. There will be no public visitation. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Hewitt family lot in Greenwood Cemetery in St. Albans.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Faithfulness Fund in memory of Douglas Safford, c/o the East Fairfield Congregational Church, Box 74, East Fairfield, Vt. 05448 or the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

K. HERMAN COTA

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. K. Herman Cota, age 90, died Wednesday afternoon, June 30, 2004, in the Haven Health Care Center.

He was born Sept. 3, 1913, son of the late George and Hattie (Wells) Cota in Georgia, Vt.

He attended schools in Georgia. He married Bernice Guerin May 3, 1941. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps for eight years, then as a machine operator for Wirthmore Feeds for 27 years, then he retired from General Electric after 11 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. He was also a member of the Franklin County Senior Citizens and the Hi-Swans Senior Citizens. Herman loved playing cards and going on bus trips with his friends. He will always be remembered as a loving husband and a wonderful father.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice; two children, Gerald Cota and his wife Connie of Bowie, Md., and Marilyn Lozon and her husband Carl of Colchester; four grandchildren, Kelly Wellman and her husband Mark of Hope Mills, N.C., Stacie Young and her husband Jeff of Marietta, Calif., Jeri-Lyn Waldorf and her husband Dale of Gambrills, Md., and Laurie Savage and her husband Kevin of Colchester; four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Caitlyn Wellman and Logan and Tanner Young; one brother, Leo Cota and his wife Anna of Swanton; one sister, Doris Thibault of St. Albans; and several nieces and nephews to include a special niece, Beverly Fairbanks who was always there to help out. Besides his parents, Herman was predeceased by eight siblings, Kenneth, Arthur, Alfred, Harold, Donald, George, Andrew and Leona Cota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 3, 2004, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in the Cota family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 485, Williston, Vt. 05495. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the Brady & Levesque web site: www.bnlfh.com.
