FRANCES J. MOSES

GEORGIA -- Frances J. Moses passed away Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care with her loving family and friends at her side. She was born in Windsor, Vt. on June 13, 1941, the daughter of Elizabeth (LaMontagne) Moses and the late Harry Moses.

Fran lived in Thetford until entering U.V.M. in 1959 and graduated with a BA in History and English and then was employed at the Burlington Free Press for many years. In 1991 she joined the staff of Bombardier Capital in the financial section where she worked until July of this year.

She was very proud of her accomplishments in the local and state levels with the Democratic Party, serving as a convention Delegate, the Georgia Historical Society where she served as Past Secretary and President, a member of the town and state conservation commissions, a charter member and founder of the Georgia Recycling, an elected Justice of the Peace and a strong environmentalist who loved the Town of Georgia.

Fran enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, embroidering, snowshoeing and was an avid reader. She also hosted many birdwatchers at her home for the annual bird count.

Survivors include her mother, Elizabeth Moses; her brother, Harvey Moses, Sr. and his wife, Helen, all of Lewiston, Maine; a special aunt, Clara Trowbridge of Hillsboro, N.H.; nieces and nephews, Daniel Tolman of Dallas, Texas, Harvey Moses, Jr. of Lewiston, Maine, Melisa Fecteau of Auburn, Maine, Rachel Hamilton of Lisbon Falls, Maine and Elaine Moses of Springfield, Mass.; many great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. Fran also had many special friends in the area. She was predeceased by her father, Harry Moses.

A celebration of Fran's life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at 6 p.m. at her home at 1332 Sandy Birch Road, Georgia. Casual attire is requested.

NANCY I. EARY

GEORGIA -- Nancy I. Eary, age 45, died Sunday morning, Sept. 19, 2004, after a long and courageous fight against cancer. She was born Nancy Marceau in Burlington, Vt. on Sept. 11, 1959.

Nancy was a loving wife, and wonderful mother. Her loving demeanor, open heart and willingness to embrace others were qualities which touched many. She will be greatly missed by her many friends who came to know the large caring heart which Nancy so easily shared. Nancy was a 1977 graduate from Burlington High School.

Survivors include her husband, James C. Eary of Georgia; her mother, Jean (Bove) Marceau of Winooski; two sons, Eric Marceau and Brendan Eary both of Georgia; three daughters, Darcee Alderman of St. Albans, Kylee Ladd of Bangor, Maine and Courtnee Blalock of Little Rock, Arkansas; four loving granddaughters, Sydney, Sophia and Savannah Alderman and Vayson Blalock; two sisters, Cathy Remillard and her husband, Maurice of St. Albans and Mary Ashline and her husband, Eugene of Johnson; two brothers, Stuart "Buddy" Marceau and his wife, Linda of Colchester and Bobby Marceau and his wife, Donna of Atlanta, Ga.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. from the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. There will be no visitation.

GLORIA J. BALSER

ST. CLOUD, Fla. -- Gloria J. (LaPan) Balser, 57, a longtime Lowell resident, died unexpectedly, Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, in St. Cloud, Fla.

She was the beloved wife of Gary Balser for 30 years.

Born June 20, 1947, in St. Albans, Vt., she was a daughter of the late Harold and the late Helen (Champagne) LaPan, and was educated in that area.

After her marriage to Gary, she moved to Lowell to raise her family. She resided on Anderson Street for many years before more recently making her home in St. Cloud, Fla. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

Beside her husband, Gary, she is survived by a son, Timothy Balser of Lowell; a daughter, Lisa (Balsar) Millirons and her husband Patrick, of Lowell; a sister, Shirley Noland of St. Albans, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews.

Her visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. Tuesday morning followed by her Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell (978 OR 800) 458-6816. Memorials in her name may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.

HELEN G. LEAHY

ST. ALBANS / TAMPA, Fla. -- Mrs. Helen G. Leahy, age 94, widow of George Leahy, died Friday morning, Sept. 17, 2004, in the Bay Shore Point Nursing Home in Tampa following an illness of several months. Helen was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, March 8, 1910, daughter of the late George D. and Nellie (Carr) Barry.

Helen moved to St. Albans and was a clerk at the M.H. Fishman Store for several years. She later became manager of the house-keeping department of Kerbs Memorial Hospital. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of Court St. Mary, Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit 758.

Her survivors include her two granddaughters, Louise Bayard and Janet and her husband Peter Pross; a great-grandson, Richard Pross; five step-children, Helen Blanchard, Marilyn Tymes, William Leahy, Richard Leahy, George Leahy Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her first husband, James Daze; her second husband, George F. Leahy, Sr.; her daughter Joan Bayard; sisters Mildred Ramsey and Thelma McAnn; and brothers, Stanley Barry and George Barry.

In keeping with Helen's wishes, there will be no public funeral services. Interment will be in the Leahy family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial masses.

ALIDA D. REYNOLDS

ALBURG, Vt. / ROUSES POINT, N.Y. -- Mrs. Alida D. Reynolds, 84, died late Saturday afternoon, Sept. 18, 2004, in the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point, N.Y.

Born in Windsor Mill, Quebec, Canada, Aug. 3, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Alphonse and Dina (Cotnoire) Goodrow. She attended schools in Granby, Quebec and was married to Walter Reynolds who predeceased her on April 13, 1991.

A resident of the Alburg community for more than 50 years, Mrs. Reynolds was a devoted parishioner of St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church.

She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Anita Juneau of Plattsburgh, N.Y. and Mrs. Geneva Boire of West Chazy, N.Y.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband Walter she was predeceased by four sisters, Mrs. Lea Pion, Mrs. Lucille Carson, Mrs. Janette Tyo and Mrs. Laura Castine; and four brothers, Arthur, Ernest, Gerry and Lionel Goodrow.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at 11 a.m. from St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Alburg Village. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Reynolds family lot in Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona, N.Y.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, from 6 to 9 p.m.

CLIFTON W. VORSE

FRANKLIN -- Clifton W. Vorse, age 83, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 19, 2004, at his home with his family at his side.

He was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Ten Mile Run, N.J., the son of the late John W. and Fon Agnes (Chaplin) Vorse.

Clifton was raised and attended school in Trenton, N.J. and at an early age made his home in Vermont at which time he worked several construction jobs around the state. He was employed at Atlas Plywood in Hancock for several years before working at Benjamin's Garage and Dick Wright Ford both in Franklin retiring in 1999. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received the American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, and following his discharge from the service he received the Vermont Veterans Medal, and the Vermont Distinguished Service Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 42 of Enosburg Falls and was a former member of the American Legion Post 14 of Vergennes. He was also a founding member of the Franklin Fire Department.

Clifton was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all he loved being with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Lillian M. (Davey) Vorse of Franklin; six daughters, Genevive Gero and her husband Howard of New Haven, Virginia Stillwell and her husband David of Taft, Calif., Kathleen Kimball and her husband Albert of Monkton, Martha Thompson and her husband Wayne of Burlington, Loretta Vorse of Swanton, and Janet Houghton and her husband, William, of Enosburg Falls; two sons and their wives, Clifton and Carol-Ann Vorse of Enosburg, and John and Shannon Vorse of Franklin; 36 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; and a very special granddaughter whom grew up with Clifton, Jenny Gaudette of Montgomery.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls where military honors will follow the service outside of the funeral home.

A time of visitation will be held Tuesday at the funeral home from 2 until the hour of the funeral.

LEONA ANN "LEE" SMITH

SWANTON -- Leona Ann "Lee" Smith, 83, a longtime resident of 61 Spring Street in Swanton Village died late Wednesday afternoon in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

Born in Winooski, July 26, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Irene (Dori) Shepard. She attended schools in South Burlington and on, June 21, 1941, married Earl B. Smith who survives her. They resided in South Burlington, Vt. and Glens Falls, N.Y. before moving to Swanton in 1945.

A devoted parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Lee was a member and past president of the Altar Society and a member of the former Saint Anne's Academy Mother's Club. In earlier years along with raising her family, Lee worked at the former York Manufacturing Company and then at Ann's Bake Shop in St. Albans. She also assisted with local 4-H Clubs teaching sewing and cooking. Her main enjoyment however was her family.

In addition to her husband Earl of 63 years, Lee leaves her son, Dennis J. Smith and his wife Shueh Ling of Georgia; her daughter, Mary D. Scandore and husband Michael J. of North Hero; five grandchildren, Tara Lynn Smith, Tyrel Smith and Chanan Smith, Michael Eric Scandore and Casey Marie Scandore; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton Village. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Smith family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Gifts in Lee's memory may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or to the charity of your choice.

LINDA J. BENOURE

ST. ALBANS -- Linda J. Benoure, age 57, died at her home Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in St. Albans on March 6, 1947, the daughter of Donald and Juanita (Silk) Benoure.

Linda worked at Ben & Jerry’s for over 10 years as a factory worker and volunteered for numerous community events with Ben & Jerry’s. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Lissette Benoure, Karynne Lang, Jennifer Benoure, and Ashley Benoure, all of St. Albans; a very special granddaughter, Meagan “Miss Mallie” Lang; her mother, Juanita Benoure; two brothers, Thomas Benoure and his wife Gloria, and Timothy Benoure and his wife Kim, all of St. Albans; and several nieces and nephews. Linda was predeceased by her father, Donald Benoure, on Jan. 10, 1993.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, in Holy Angels Church. Interment will follow in the Benoure family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or to the Linda Wood-Mason Fund, in care of Mary Anne Wood, 75 First Street, Swanton, Vt. 05488.

LEO BERT WELLS, SR.

ALBURG -- Leo Bert Wells, Sr., 70, a longtime area, resident passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, Sept. 10, 2004, at the Porter Hospital in Middlebury. He was born in St. Albans on June 17, 1934, the son of the late Bert Wells and Anna (Dennis) St. Francis.

Leo received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Army on April 10, 1958, and was employed by the A.G. Anderson Company in Swanton driving 18 and 22 wheelers for 30 years retiring in 1998. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1090, St. Albans. Leo enjoyed fishing, gardening and country music. His greatest enjoyment was being with his family and friends and walking his dog, "LP."

Survivors include his children, Amy McConnell and her husband, Ron, of Vergennes, Fern Champine and her husband, David of Vergennes, Anna Wetherby and her husband, James, of Highgate Center, Leo Wells, Jr. and his partner, Sandra Baker of Plattsburgh, N.Y. and David Wells and his wife, Misty of Burlington; 15 grandchildren, Christa, Jeremiah, Chad, Tatiana, Paul, Lynn, Shauna, Jessica, Jeffrey, Theodore, Shianna, Brendan, Travis, Chad and Ashley; four great-grandchildren, Faith, Conor, Jadah and Angelica; and a great-grandchild due in November; his former wife, Beverly Wells of Highgate; a special friend, Patricia Campbell; his sister, Barbara Renaudette of Massachusetts; two half-brothers, Nazaire and David St. Francis both of St. Albans; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Leo was predeceased by his sister, Priscilla Mills; his brother, Donald Westover; and his half brother, George St. Francis.

Leo's family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. At his request there will be no funeral services.

ERNEST A. LATUCH

DAVENPORT, Fla. / WESTFORD, Vt. -- Ernest A. Latuch, 77, of Davenport, Fla. and formerly of Westford and Fairfax, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, of complications from diabetes.

Ernest was born June 3, 1927, in Stowe, the son of the late Roy Allen and Irene Asquith Latuch. On July 8, 1950 he married Phyllis R. Bruneau of Winooski.

He served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

A resident of the Westford and Fairfax area, Ernie was a supervisor for the Kenneth R. Adams Construction Company of Milton. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fairfax, past master of the Westford Grange and was a volunteer Fairfax firefighter for three years. Ernie enjoyed all sorts of motor sports. He was a founding member of the Browns River Snowmobile Club of Westford which was started in the early '70s and served as Trail Master for several years. He was also an avid motorcyclist. While living in the area he was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Fairfax.

In 1989 he moved to Davenport, Fla. and became director of the Emerald Lake Mobile Home Association of Davenport. He was also a member of the Crop Dusters Model Plane Club and the American Legion in Haines City.

Ernest and his wife, Phyllis, enjoyed camping all along the East Coast. They loved all forms of dancing and were members of "The Maple Leaf Squares."

Ernest is survived by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis R. Bruneau Latuch of Davenport, Fla.; his three sons, David P. Latuch of Milwaukee, Wis., Brian L. Latuch and his fiancee, Cindy L. Littlefield of Milton and John R. Latuch of Davenport, Fla.; three daughters, Ann Marie Latuch and her life companion, Eileen Covato of Davenport, Fla., Valerie L. Crevier and her husband, Shawn, and their children, Jean-Luc and Monique A. Crevier of South Branch, Mich., and Joni J. Latuch-Lyman and her husband Steve R. Lyman and their son, Derek L. Lyman of Sharon and their two daughters, Cristal L. Burbank and her husband Adam Burbank of North Charleston, N.H. and Tonya L. Lyman and her fiance, Robert Kinney of North Charleston, N.H. Ernest also leaves seven great-grandchildren and two brothers, Lewis F. Latuch and his wife, Bernice, of Haines City, Fla. and Royal Latuch and his life companion, Thomas Greenlaw of Warner, N.H. as well as his stepsister, Gertrude Leclair of Lady Lake, Fla.

He was predeceased by two sons, Allen B. Latuch in 1951 and Roy Allen Latuch in 1958.

Memorial Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Office, 77 Hegeman Ave., Colchester, Vt. 05446.

A Celebration of his Life will be held on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 19, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home Route 7 in Milton with interment being held in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
