DONALD W. RAYMOND

FLETCHER - Donald W. Raymond, 66 of School Road died early Wednesday morning, Dec. 15, 2004, at his home with his loving wife and children at his side.

Donald was born Dec. 23, 1937 in Fairfax, the son of Lyle and Beatrice Cross Raymond. He attended Fairfax schools and served as a member of the Vermont Air National Guard from 1956 to 1962.

On Jan. 1, 1956 he married Bernice Warren in Fairfax. He later was employed by the University of Vermont for 25 years working with the Grounds Department. He belonged to the Fletcher Grange and was an auxiliary trooper with the Snowmobile Division of the Vermont State Police.

Don’s love was his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, traveling with his wife in their motor home and camping at Skyland for the past 14 years where he made many lifelong friends. He will be dearly missed and remembered by those who knew him.

He leaves his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Bernice Raymond of Fletcher, and their three children, Roy Raymond and his wife, Sandra, Ann Broe and her husband, Gary, and Kathy Murray and her husband, Michael, all of Fletcher. His grandchildren, Wanda Lafar, Craig and Candice Broe, Samantha Broe and Derek Cadieux, Landon Dupee, Hunter Murray, Melanie and Kevin Lapierre, Torrey Sise and Derek Tetrault. His great grandchildren, Lyle Broe, MaKayla Dupee, Alicia and Brayden Lafar, Gage Sise, Caitlyn Lapierre and Avery Tetrault; his sister-in-law Mary Poirier of St. Albans, as well as many nieces nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and his son Timothy in 1962.

Donald’s family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Unger and his staff, especially Christine and Heidi at the Vermont Cancer Center and Darlene from Franklin County Home Health Hospice for all that was done for Donald and his family during his illness.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478

Funeral Services will be held on Friday Dec. 17, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church of Fairfax with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Sanderson Corner Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held today from 5-8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

MICHAEL SCOTT BINDLER

MONTGOMERY CENTER - Michael Scott Bindler, age 46, passed away after a brief illness on Monday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2004, at Haven Health Care Facility in St. Albans.

He was born in Freehold, N.J. on March 22, 1958, the son of Lawrence and Natalie (Beagal) Bindler.

Michael was raised and educated in the Freehold area and graduated with a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Miami Dade University. After college, he returned to New Jersey where he entered into his fathers’ dry cleaning business and eventually opened 13 more stores with his sister Lori. Michael’s love for cooking made him re-think his profession, and he began studying to be a chef and had the opportunity to train under some exceptional chefs. He then proceeded to open his own restaurant in 1988 called “Ain’t Just Chicken” located in Marlboro, N.J. In 1992 he and his partner, Glen, moved to Montgomery Center where they owned and operated Phineas Swann Bed & Breakfast for the past 13 years.

He is survived by his soul mate, Glen Bartolomeo, of Montgomery Center; his parents, Lawrence and Natalie Bindler of Jackson, N.J; two sisters, Robin Cuneo of Freehold, N.J., and Lori Bindler of Bay Head, N.J.; one niece, Ashley Cuneo; one nephew, Ryan Cuneo both of Freehold, N.J.; and many dear friends in Montgomery and the surrounding area.

In keeping with Michael’s wishes, he will be cremated, and a memorial service will be announced at a later date to be held next spring in Montgomery. There will be no visiting hours.

For those who wish, contributions in his memory may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows. St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

RICHARD J. “RICK” PATTERSON

FRANKLIN - Richard J. “Rick” Patterson, age 59, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday December 14, 2004 at his home in Franklin.

Rick was born on June 21, 1945 the youngest son of the late Safford L. & Florence S. (Blake) Patterson.

He was a 1963 graduate of Franklin High School and from 1963 to 1984 he worked at the Missisquoi Pulp Mill in Sheldon as a data processing operator. From 1970 to 1974 he was the co-owner of the Sheldon Casino. In 1982 he established an auction business, and in 1984 he fulfilled his dream and love of antiques, instilled in him by his father, and began conducting antique auctions. Rick’s honest, friendly manner made him a favorite with auction lovers and everyone looked forward to his monthly events, which he ran with the help of his children, Tom and Pam. You’d hear him say, “Where ya going to find another like it?” as he encouraged his customers to bid on an item. Although he discontinued his auctions in 1989, he never gave up “wheeling and dealing” and will be remembered by the many wonderful friends whom he met through his business.

In 1989, Rick took a position as salesman at Dick Wright Ford in Franklin, where he made many friends. Rick always loved to cut a deal, and this job fit his many talents.

Rick, who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, leaves three children who were the love of his life; Patricia Labor and her friend Tim Trombley of St. Albans; Thomas Patterson and his wife Jeri; and Pamela Deuso and her husband Howard; and the mother of his children, Polly Gadbois, all of Franklin. In addition to his children he also leaves eight beautiful grandchildren who were his pride and joy; Adam Patterson, Tim Patterson, Anthony Labor, Bill Deuso, Alex Deuso, Erika Patterson, Kelli Patterson, and Carson Patterson; two brothers, Wallace Patterson and his wife Veronica of Enosburg Falls, and Allen Patterson of Newport; his mother-in-law, Geraldine Wright of Franklin; several nieces and nephews and many dear fiends including, Mark Ducharme, Ed Barnes, Alfred Zenisky, Ronnie Larivee, and Mark Vaillancourt, who were especially dear to him. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Patterson, in 1976 and his father-in-law, Harrison Wright, in 1997.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning December 18th at 11:00 at the Franklin United Church on Main St. in Franklin with Pastor Jason McConnell officiating. Interment will be held next spring.

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

For those who wish, contributions in his memory may be made to the Richard J. Patterson Memorial Fund, C/O Polly Gadbois, 3764 State Park Rd., Enosburg Falls, VT 05450. This fund is being established in Rick’s name to benefit the Franklin Central School and Franklin Recreation Fields.

MARY ELLEN (QUINN) POISSANT

ENOSBURG FALLS — Mary Ellen (Quinn) Poissant, age 94, of 36 Orchard St. passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at her home.

She was born on July 31, 1910, in Fair Haven, Vt., the daughter of the late Matthew and Maude (Moore) Quinn.

She was a 1928 graduate of Enosburg Falls High School and married Bernard Robert Poissant on June 6, 1932. He predeceased her on Sept. 15, 1966. For eight years, 1967 to 1975, Mary worked as a receptionist for Missisquoi Specialty Board Division, now called Rock-Tenn. In her retirement she enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and -- most of all -- loved her family.

She is survived by her children, Denise (Poissant) Brault of Burlington, and Pierre Poissant of Enosburg Falls. She was blessed with five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, Michael Brault, his wife Denise and their children, Justin and Sarah of Burlington; Stephen Brault, his wife Paula and their children, Alexandra and Meghan of Longmeadow, Mass.; Mary (Brault) Bittner, her husband George and their children, Katherine, Eric and Brian of Chester; Margaret (Brault) Brigham her husband Richard and their children, Evan, Samuel and Grace of Montpelier; and James Brault, his wife Elise and their children Calvin and Maxwell of Colchester. Mary is also survived by one brother, Donald F. Quinn, his wife Gertrude of Burlington; one sister-in-law, Anna J. Quinn of South Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Louis E. Brault; a sister, Margaret Monniere; and brothers, Charles, Joseph and Henry Quinn.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, Dec. 15, 2004, at 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Reverend Benedict Kiely celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 5 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls

JOHN B. CALLAN

HIGHGATE CENTER -- John B. Callan, 88, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Tuesday evening, Dec. 7, 2004, at the Franklin County Rehab Center following a long illness. He was born in Fairfield on Nov. 3, 1916, the son of the late Thomas and Sarah (Paradee) Callan. He was married to the former Lois A. Smith, who survives him.

John was a longtime employee of the former Missisquoi Corporation in Sheldon where he was a pipefitter. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of Robert E. Glidden Post 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion.

Besides his wife of 58 years, Lois of Highgate, he is survived by two sons, David B. Callan and his wife, Elaine and Ray P. Callan all of Fairfield; two daughters, Linda L. Callan of Fairfield and Susan Lussier and her husband Danny of Enosburg Falls; a brother, Ray F. Callan and his wife, Gilberte of Fairfield; a sister, Beatrice Liberty and her husband, Leonard, of Windsor Locks, Conn.; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Marcheta Townsend officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be in the family lot at Sheldon Village Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, Conn. 06150-1160 or a charity of one's choice.

RICHARD P. LeCLAIR

ST. ALBANS –– Richard P. LeClair, 78, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center following a long illness. He was born in Burlington on May 25, 1926, the son of the late Rudolphe P. and Gertrude C. (O'Connor) LeClair. On Oct. 17, 1953, in St. Mary's Church in St. Albans, he married the former Marilyn King, who survives him.

Dick was a 1944 graduate of St. Mary's High School and was employed with R. L. Vallee, Inc. for 15 years. Following this he was a postal carrier with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1975 due to illness. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church where he was a Eucharistic minister. He was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. His memberships included Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion, Robert E. Glidden Post 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and St. Albans Council 297, Knights of Columbus. Dick loved being with his family, his camp in West Swanton, and fishing in the LCI Derby.

Besides his wife, Marilyn, he is survived by his seven children and their spouses, David and Melody LeClair of Swanton, Julie and John Smith of St. Albans, Kim and Tom Chevalier of Swanton, Mark and Susan LeClair of Fairfax, Lisa and Peter Coolum of Fairfax, Christopher and Stephanie LeClair of Fairfax, and Jennifer and Chris Trayah of Fairfax; his sisters and brothers, Charlotte C. Pudvah of Bakersfield, Marjorie D. LeClair of Marlborough, Conn., Jane E. Finn of Lewiston, N.Y., John J. and Donna LeClair of Williamsburg, Va., Katherine and William Jarvi of Rome, N.Y., and Robert R. and Beverly LeClair of St. Albans; 16 grandchildren: Jesse LeClair, Luke LeClair and his wife Gina, Erin and Eric Smith, Jeremy, Kyle, Lisa and Angela Chevalier, Sarah and Christine LeClair, Ryan and Samantha Coolum, Haley and Hillary LeClair, and Kyle and Lauren Trayah; a great-grandson, Cole LaFar; his pet dog, "Molly, " and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Fairfield Street. Interment will be in the family lot at Holy Cross Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

HOBART “BRUNO” ROLLIE MASKELL

HIGHGATE SPRINGS / COLFAX, La. –– Hobart “Bruno” Rollie Maskell passed away at the age of 82 at the Alexandria Louisiana Veterans Hospital on December 1, 2004. A native of Highgate Springs, he has most recently resided in Colfax, La. Born in Highgate Springs on June 26, 1922, he was the son of the late Hobart and Angie (Partlow) Maskell. He was married to the former Betty Marie Barney, who survives him.

Hobart (Bruno) faithfully served his country during World War II in the United States Army, serving under General Douglas Macarthur in the Philippines. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton, where he served as Quartermaster for five years. He was also a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 of St. Albans, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 3801 of Vergennes. He was a member of the Stonecutters Union for 28 years and retired from Electric Boat, a division of General Dynamics in Groton, Conn. in 1987.

In addition to his wife Betty of 54 years, Hobart leaves his eight children, David Maskell and wife Patsy of Colfax, La., Brenda Johnson and husband Lynn of Groton, Conn., Kathie Lavoie and husband Gerry of Oakdale, Conn., Michael Maskell and wife Evelyn of Niantic, Conn., Larry Maskell and wife Karen of Oakdale, Conn., Angie Wisniewski and husband Paul of Lisbon, Conn., Vivian Skorupa of Norwich, Conn., and Michael Amell and Susan of Northfield, Vt.; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, Cassius Maskell and wife Madeline of Highgate Springs, and a sister, Anna Green and husband Joe of Santa Clara, New Mexico; as well as several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Vincent and Edward Maskell, and a sister, Mattie Grandchamp, predeceased him.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Interment will follow in the Maskell family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Hobart’s memory may be made to the charity one one’s choice.

VIRGINIA N. IRWIN

BURLINGTON -- Virginia N. Irwin passed away peacefully at her home Dec. 5, 2004. She was born Oct. 8, 1915, in St. Albans, the daughter of Emily (Kaloria) Norris and Dr. Francis W. Norris.

Virginia was the valedictorian of the Class of 1933 at Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. She served as organist at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Swanton and was also a delegate to the Vermont Congregational Youth Council for several years. She graduated from Burlington Business College in 1935, after which she worked as secretary in the ROTC Department at the University of Vermont. It was there that she met her husband, Dr. Edward S. Irwin. They were married on May 30, 1943. She worked side by side with her husband as office manager for his ophthalmology practice for 26 years before they retired in 1983. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.

Ginny is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years; her son, Dr. Alan E. Irwin and his wife Joanne of Essex Junction; three grandchildren, Bonnie I. Royal and her husband Paul of Deerfield, N.H., Dr. Brian H. Irwin and his wife Jeanne of West Hartford, Conn., and David M. Irwin of Essex Junction. She had one great-grandson, Andrew S. W. Royal of Deerfield. She is also survived by her sister, Lily N. Thorpe of Venice, Fla.; and one niece, Karen B. Howat of South Pasadena, Fla.

Her family would like to express their gratitude to her devoted caregivers from Griswold Special Care and to Karen Rossouw who made it possible for her to spend her final year in her own home. They would also like to thank Dr. Scott Luria, Dr. Virginia Hood and the staff at the Fletcher Allen Renal Dialysis Unit for their fine medical care.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held in the First United Methodist Church of Burlington on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 10:30 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Swanton at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her memory to the First United Methodist Church of Burlington, 21 Buell St., Burlington, Vt. 05401, or to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf, 228 N. Winooski Ave., Burlington, Vt. 05401.

Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

TERRY LLYOD TRUDEAU

ST. ALBANS — Terry Llyod Trudeau passed away peacefully at Northwestern Medical Center with his family at his side Monday, Dec. 6 2004, after a battle with cancer.

Terry was born in St. Albans on Oct. 9, 1951, the youngest son of Shirley Greenwood Trudeau and Francis Llyod Trudeau. He graduated from BFA St. Albans in 1969. Terry worked for Leader Evaporator in St. Albans as a sheet metal worker. He was also employed by Wildcat Construction.

In more recent years, Terry loved working in his vegetable garden and took pride in his “Giant Pumpkins.” Furniture refinishing had become another hobby in which Terry took great comfort.

He was predeceased by his father Francis; his mother Shirley; and an infant sister Elaine.

He is survived by one son, Josh Trudeau Weston; a daughter Tina Trudeau Weston; two brothers, Robert Greenwood and his wife Betsy from Fairfax, Michael Trudeau and his wife Sheila of East Berkshire; a sister, Gloria Hughes and her husband William of Fairfield; several nieces and nephews, as well as a dear friend Ruth McBride, and a special nephew Jeffery Greenwood.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. A memorial service conducted by Reverend Lyle Willey will take place at Heald Funeral Home at 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Terry’s memory to the Harbor Club, Kingman Street St. Albans.
