THELMA E. DEMICK

MILTON -- Thelma E. Demick, 93, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

Mrs. Demick was born in Randolph, Vt. on Sept. 12, 1911, the daughter of Harry and Ethel (Farnam) Hubbard.

She married Chester Demick on July 7, 1934 in Malone, N.Y.

Thelma was a member of the United Church of Milton, the Order of the Eastern Star, Chittenden Chapter #59 and was very active with the Arrowhead Seniors and the Champlain Valley Agency on Aging.

Mrs. Demick retired from Three Industries in Three Rivers, Mass., prior to moving to Milton.

She is survived by her children and spouses, Deane Demick of Waynesville, N.C., Chester Demick and his wife Nancy of Schuylerville, N.Y., Terrance Demick and his wife Nancy of Florida and Vermont, Judith Slankard and her husband Bill of Phoenix, Ariz.; her sisters, Hazel Siegriest of Milton, with whom she made her home for many years, Rhoda Long of Bangor, Maine; a special nephew, Don Siegriest and his wife Diane of Westford, Vt.; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Thelma was predeceased by her husband Chester in 1977; and by her sister Vivian Lambert in 1972 .

A Funeral & OES Service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

Burial will be in the Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery, in Waynesville, N.C. on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at 2 p.m.

Contributions in Thelma’s memory may be made to the Milton Meal Site, c/o CVAA, P.O. Box 158, Winooski, Vt. 05404-9958.

EDNA MAE HURLBUT BUSHEY

ST. ALBANS -- Edna Bushey passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Northwestern Medical Center on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, following a long period of declining health. She was 87 years old.

Edna was born in St. Albans, Vt., on Nov. 11, 1917, the daughter of George and Viola Hurlbut. She attended Holy Angels School for all her school years and graduated from Holy Angels Commercial Class in 1935. She was a life-long member of Holy Angels Parish in St. Albans.

On Nov. 10, 1938, she married Roland A. Bushey, the light of her life. Roly predeceased her on Oct. 28, 1997, a month before their 59th wedding anniversary. For 52 years they made their home on Lower Welden Street. Their kitchen table was a favorite gathering spot for many people over the years.

Edna was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. When her children were in elementary school, she was an active member of the Holy Angels Mothers Club and was involved in the local Cub Scouting program as a Den Mother.

At the age of 50, Edna succeeded in her first business venture as co-owner of Sylette’s Ladies and Children’s Shop in St. Albans. After retiring from her shop, she engaged in many hobbies, among which were flower arranging and ceramics. She will be long remembered for her gift collages, spiritual booklets of encouragement, and the many lovely cakes she baked and decorated for her family and friends’ weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries. She had a special love of angels and had a large collection of them. She was always there for her family, and for countless people who benefited from her wisdom and counsel.

Edna’s three children and their spouses, Ken and Linda Bushey, Tom and Sandi Bushey, and Millie and Will Boyd, all of St. Albans, will dearly miss her. “Nunna” will always have a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren and their spouses, Dan and Deb Bushey, David and Amy Bushey, Melissa and Brian Morrison, Karen McFeeters, Sarah and David Allerton, Jenna and Jeremy Bushey, her step-grandchildren Kim and Don Patnaude, Tammy Choquette and family, and Kris Bullock and family. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren, Thomas and Ellen Allerton, Joshua Morrison, and Sadie, Carly, Jessie, Skyler and Cameron Bushey.

She also leaves many loving and loyal friends, whom her family wishes to thank for their kindness and support during her difficult last years.

Edna was predeceased by her husband, Roland A. Bushey; her parents; a sister, Millie Hurlbut Pfanstiel; and brothers Edmund, Arnold and Leonard Hurlbut.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Interment will be in the Bushey family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

HARRIETT MINOR WELLS

UNDERHILL -- Harriett Minor Wells, 86 of 15 Pleasant Valley Road, died Thursday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2004, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington following a short illness.

Harriett was born July 9, 1918, in Fairfax, the daughter of Arthur Chester and Evon Hoben Minor. She attended Fairfax schools and on Sept. 15, 1941, she was married to Aldolph Raymond Wells in St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. He predeceased her on Feb. 9, 1981.

They moved to Underhill in 1951 where they raised their family of eight children.

A member of St. Thomas Church in Underhill for many years Harriett also belonged to the Ladies of St. Thomas. She was a member of the XYZ Senior Citizens Group in Underhill and also belonged to the local Home Dem Group in Jericho.

She is survived by her loving family which includes her children, Richard and Rita Wells of Underhill, Patrick and Melody Wells of Jericho, Virginia St. Hilaire of Underhill Flats, Marilyn Bame and her husband Tim of Milton, Eugene Wells of Johnson, Cedric and Laura Wells of Underhill, Priscilla Burnor and her husband Craig of Underhill and Aldolph W. Wells of Underhill; as well as 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Five brothers and their wives, Wallace and Margaret Minor of Fletcher, Shirley and Madeline Minor of Westford, Gerald and Marilyn Minor of Fairfax, Lee and Louise Minor of Fairfax and David and Janet Minor of St. Albans, also survive her. She also leaves sisters-in-law, Theresa Minor of St. Albans and Doris Poirier of Chicopee, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews

Besides her husband Aldolph she was predeceased by her grandson Calvin in July of 1992. Her sister Ilene Drinkwine on Dec. 22, 1980 and her brother Carlton Minor on Sept. 19, 1999; sister-in-Law, Alice Wells and brother in law Harold Wells; and her daughter-in-law Linda Wells Taylor in 2003.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. in St. Thomas Church in Underhill. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.

For those who wish Memorial Contributions may be made to either the Burlington Emergency Food Shelf, 89 North St., Burlington, Vt. 05401 or the Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS), 179 South Winooski Avenue, Burlington, Vt. 05401.

Visiting Hours will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.

JANE M. DAIGNAULT

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Jane M. Daignault, age 71, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 1, 2004, at her home after an extended illness. She was born in Sheldon Springs, May 5, 1933, daughter of the late Lyle and Marion (Lafley) Doner. Jane graduated from St. Mary’s High School and was employed for a short time at Union Carbide Consumer Products.

Jane married George Daignault, May 2, 1953. They were members of A.A.R.P. Besides her husband, George, of over 51 years, she is survived by their eight children and their spouses, Edward and Sandy Daignault of Baroda, Mich., Denise Tansey of Tallahassee, Fla., Michael and Roxanne Daignault of Merritt Island, Fla., Brien Daignault of Concord, Jeannine Daignault of St. Albans Town, James and Terri Daignault of Colchester, David and Mary Daignault of Cicero, N.Y., Army Lieutenant Margaret and Marty Mieras of Michigan; 10 grandchildren, Joseph and Monique Daignault, Daniel and Kathleen Tansey, Amanda and Renee Daignault, Felicia and Hilliary Daignault, Kristina and Ashley Daignault; a brother, Danton Doner of Rocky Hill, Conn.; a sister, Betty Bruso of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her one-year-old son, Lawrence Daignault; her four-month-old grandson, Jonathan Bonnema; and her brother Robert Doner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. There will be no public calling hours.

Interment will be in the Doner family lot in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Sheldon Springs.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

LUCILLE I. DEVINO

MILTON -- Lucille I. Devino, 80 of North Road, died early Wednesday morning, Dec. 1, 2004, at the Redstone Villa Extended Care Facility in St. Albans.

Lucille was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Lincoln, the daughter of Clayton and Lena Bristol Ladeau. She graduated from Bristol High School in 1940. On January 29, 1943, she married Earl Robert Devino who predeceased her in 1981. She and Earl ran the family dairy farm on North Road for several years.

She is survived by her children, Erwin Devino and his wife Loretta of Milton, Lee Devino of Milton, Donna King and her husband Wayne of Fairfax, Coleen Devino of Colchester, and Caroline Collins and her husband Dennis of Westford. By her grandchildren, Kristie, Jason, Angela, Kelli, Andrew, Brandon, and Brittany; her great-grandchildren Gregory, Patrick, Joseph, Peter, and Benjamin; her brothers and sisters, Joyce Usher and her husband Francis of Bristol, Clayton Ladeau Jr. and his wife Zelva of Bristol and Bruce Ladeau and his wife Jeanne of Hinesburg; and by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother Herman Ladeau, and her sisters Barbara Maranville and Margaret Coates.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton with Father Lawrence Ridgley officiating. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.

For those who wish, contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the family for a fund established to help in Coleen’s care.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 11 to 2 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

ARTHUR N. GAUDETTE

FAIRFAX -- Arthur N. Gaudette, age 80, of Fairfax, passed away at Haven Health Care in St. Albans late Monday afternoon, Nov. 29, 2004. He was born in Fairfax on July 20, 1924, son of the late Joseph and Marie (Proulx) Gaudette. Arthur was married to the former Arlene Bruley in Fairfax on June 24, 1950, and was a loving and dedicated husband for over 53 years. His entire working life was dedicated to dairy farming in the local area. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife Arlene (Bruley) Gaudette of Fairfax. He was predeceased by 10 brothers, Joseph, Noel, Eulice, Norris, Adoree, Francis, Peter, Louis, Albert, Ernest; three sisters, Noella Wagner, Mary Rose Gaudette and Eva Bessette.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke Church, Fairfax with the Reverend Francis Connors officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Luke Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Arthur’s memory to Franklin County Home Health, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478 or Fairfax Rescue, P.O. Box 228, Fairfax, Vt. 05454. Friends who wish may forward online condolences by visiting .

REVEREND AGNES JULIA (DUTELLE) FISKE

ST. ALBANS CITY -- Pastor Agnes Fiske, 58, a resident of St. Albans City since 1993, went to be with the Lord at midnight Tuesday morning, Nov. 30, 2004. Her oil lamp was full with the wick trimmed and her wedding garment was ready as her eternal bridegroom came and she answered the midnight call.

Agnes was born in Rutland, Vt., Feb. 1, 1946, to, Frederick Charles Dutelle and Arlene Marguerite (Foster) Dutelle. She attended Rutland schools graduating from Mount St. Joseph’s Academy with the Class of 1963. On Feb. 29, 1966, she was married to Peter Hadley Fiske who survives her.

She worked for the Rutland City Hospital from 1963-64 and the Rutland Herald Newspaper from 1964 until 1966. She was also associated with the former Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospital in Burlington in 1966, and IBM in Manassas, Virginia from 1974-1975.

Agnes was very involved in various community organizations and charitable activities which included, Co-Director of “Fish” Organization in Manassas, Va. 1972-1973, Marriage Encounter, Episcopal Cursillio, Methodist Walk to Emmaus, Co-Founder of the Jericho Underhill Food Shelf, Staff and Board Member for The Burlington Emergency Shelter, Co-Founder of The Church at North West in St. Albans in 1992, a nondenominational church at the North West State Correctional Facility, Co-Founder of The Church At Prison in St. Albans in 1997, a statewide prison ministry serving the incarcerated of Vermont by presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ, providing Christian education and training, and helping with transition back into society. She was also a Vermont Resource Team Member, CSOM (US Justice Department Agency).

Agnes was ordained by Co-laborers in Christ Ministerial Fellowship International in 1999 and ordained by Maranatha Ministerial Fellowship International in 2004.

In addition to her husband Pastor Peter Hadley Fiske of St. Albans City, she leaves her children: Christopher Dutelle Fiske and wife Alena of Signal Mountain, Tenn. and their children, Christopher, Joshua and Michael; Lee Charles Fiske and wife Magalys of Worcester, Mass. and their children, Magalys and Lisa; Adam Peter Fiske and wife Kristen of Duxbury and children, Joshua, Amanda, Carl and Macy; Nathan Perry Fiske and wife Edita of St. Albans and child Daniel and special granddaughter, Taylor.

Agnes was also mother and sister to many spiritual children, brothers and sisters both in prison and in society.

Agnes’ last act as a Prison Minister was to attend the licensing and ordination of inmate Pastors Fred Little, and Ramon Valentin at North West State Correctional Facility in St. Albans on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004.

Agnes’ last act as a Minister of the Gospel was to perform a bedside wedding service on Thanksgiving Day for her son Nathan and his fiancee Edita.

Agnes was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest desires were to serve the Lord by serving others, and especially her children and grandchildren.

“To the one who gave us life and taught us faith, hope and love. We thank you for teaching us how to have faith in things that cannot be seen, heard, or touched, how to hope for things that might not come to pass and how to love without worry or regret. Because of you we are who we are. For that we thank you”

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at 10 a.m. from the United Christian Assembly, Raceway Road, Jericho, Vt. Pastor Duane Hodgeman will officiate. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in the Weybridge Cemetery, Quaker Village Road, Weybridge. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers gifts in Pastor Agnes Fiskes’ memory may be made to the Agnes Fiske Memorial Fund, to be used for the education and training of Christian inmate leaders, in care of, The Church At Prison, Inc., P.O. Box 1128, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

KENNETH J. GIRARD

WESTFORD -- Mr. Kenneth J. Girard, age 38, died unexpectedly at his home Jan. 27, 2005. He was born the son of Roger and Nancy (Bates) Girard Nov. 13, 1966 in Hartford, Conn. He graduated from East Hampton High School and the Technical Career Institute. He worked most of his life in construction and most recently has his own construction business. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, tent camping, and many other outdoor activities.

He is survived by his parents Roger and Nancy Girard of East Hampton, Conn.; a sister, Judy Kerrigan and her husband Ed of Middletown, Conn.; his paternal grandmother, Blanche Gignac of St. Albans; a special niece and nephew, Samantha and Justin Peirce; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Henry Girard, Sr.; and his maternal grandparents Herbert and Marjorie Bates.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in the spring in the Girard family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 7 to 9 p.m. today (Monday).

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

DONNA JEAN CROCKER

GEORGIA -- Donna Jean Crocker, 64, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the Northwestern Medical Center with her loving family at her side after a courageous battle with ALS. She was born in St. Albans on July 5, 1940, the daughter of Ronald J. and Charlotte E. (Alexander) Sunderland. On March 23, 1962, in the Georgia Plain Baptist Church, Donna married William D. Crocker, who survives her.

Donna graduated from Bellows Free Academy, Class of 1958. She was a farm wife for 40 years and provided in-home childcare, as well as raising their own five children. Donna was a very social person who enjoyed cooking, bowling, playing cards and having her family and friends around. She and Bill summered for the past 30 years at their camp on Georgia Shore. For the past several years, Donna was treasurer for the Georgia Shore Association. They have spent the last five winters in Horseshoe Cove in Bradenton, Fla. Donna was a Tupperware consultant for seven years until she retired due to her illness.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Bill, of Georgia; her mother, Charlotte Sunderland of Georgia; their three sons, Todd and Jonathan Crocker, both of Georgia, and Russell Crocker of St. Albans; their two daughters, Stacy Baker and her husband, Jeremy, of Rutland, and Amy Bennett and her husband, Adrian, of Lenox, Mass.; four grandchildren, Tommy and Laurel Baker, and Solomon and Isaiah Bennett; her two sisters, Bette S. Dunsmore of Georgia, whom Donna and Bill have resided with for the past three and a half months, and Barb Duffy and her husband, Don, of St. Albans; her mother-in-law, Gladys Benoit of St. Albans; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. She is predeceased by her father, Ronald J. Sunderland on Feb. 18, 2002, and her brother-in-law, George M. Dunsmore on March 1, 1995.

Donna's family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, Donna's caregiver, Lori Collins, special friends Helen and Bill Butler, Judy and Dick Carroll, and Kathy and Alan Mashtare, and the many other family members and friends who provided help and support during her illness.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at 11 a.m. from the Georgia Plain Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Kuthe officiating. Donna's family will receive friends today, Jan. 31, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. Interment will be later this spring in Greenwood Cemetery.
