HELEN (DEWEY) SMULLEN

ESSEX JUNCTION –Helen (Dewey) Smullen died Friday evening, Feb. 18, 2005, surrounded by her family at home in Essex. She was born on Aug. 20, 1939, in Cambridge, N.Y., the daughter of Joyce and Isabelle (Curtis) Dewey.

Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Essex.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Smullen of Essex; her mother, Isabelle Pindar of Burlington; her three children, Christine (Smullen) Toulis and her husband Chris of Underhill, Patrick Smullen of Maplegrove, Minn., and Michael Smullen and his wife Amanda of St. Albans; her four grandchildren, Louie and Isabelle Toulis, and Daniel and Nathan Smullen.

Visiting hours will be today, Feb. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Junction. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 1110 Prim Road, Suite 1, Colchester, Vt. 05446; or to the American Cancer Society, 121 Connor Way, Suite 240, P.O. Box 1460, Williston, Vt. 05495.

Her family would like to thank her many friends for their love and support over the past year. May God bless you all.

DOROTHY EVA REYNOLDS

JEFFERSONVILLE — Dorothy Eva Reynolds, 90, passed away the morning of Feb. 17, 2005, in Genesis Elder Care, Morrisville. She was born in Johnson on Sept. 5, 1914, daughter of the late Joel and Marion (Edwards) Stratton. Dorothy married Edison Reynolds on June 8, 1930 in Jericho. Edison predeceased her in December of 1975.

Dorothy retired from her job as a baker from Johnson State College to care for her husband. Previous to that she had worked as a baker at the Windridge Bakery, a cook at the Cambridge School Lunchroom and an attendant at a nursing home. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and one of the hardest working individuals around. She was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 3210 of Jeffersonville and stayed active in that organization for many years.

She loved to play cards, especially cribbage and poker, and was proud of her many trophies which she received from Eagles tournaments. She was also an avid bingo player and rarely missed a Friday night bingo during her younger years. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Melody Tobin and husband Arthur, Sr. of Jeffersonville; her brother, Noel Stratton of Jericho; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Reynolds of Jeffersonville; her special friend and caregiver, Donna Hutchins of Jeffersonville; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by two sons, Edison Reynolds, Jr. and Donald Reynolds; three brothers, Charles Stratton, Robert Stratton and Alan Stratton; her sister, Rhoda Cary; and two grandsons, Donald Reynolds, Jr. and Robert Reynolds.

There will be no public visiting hours. A Memorial Service will be held at A.W. Rich Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at 1 p.m. with Revered Peggy Tooker officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, VT & NH Chapter, 10 Ferry St. Suite 427 B, Concord, N.H. 03301-5004.

Arrangements are by A.W. Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

THERESA I. "PAT" KINNEY

FAIRFIELD — Mrs. Theresa I. (St. Pierre) Kinney, 86, a longtime resident of this area passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at the Northwestern Medical Center after a long illness with her loving family at her side. She was born in St. Albans on June 18, 1918, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary L. (Bessette) St. Pierre. On July 26, 1959, in Colchester she married Keith Kinney, who survives her.

Pat attended school in Fairfield. She worked at the then Union Carbide (now Energizer) for 29 years retiring in 1977 due to her illness.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Keith, of Fairfield; her brother, Wilfred St. Pierre and his wife, Doris, of Fairfield; her sister-in-law, Mary B. St. Pierre of Fairfield; her brother-in-law, Arnold L. Roya of Sutton, Quebec; her step- son, Mark Kinney and a step-daughter, Dianne Ray both of California. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her three brothers, Orris E. St. Pierre and his wife, June, Walter St. Pierre and Gordon St. Pierre and his wife, Arieta; two sisters, Ella M. Roya and Evelyn Perkins and her husband Douglas.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at 2 p.m. from the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans with Pastor William Simmons of the First Baptist Church officiating. Pat's family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

RICHARD KENNETH LOWN

ST. ALBANS -- Richard Kenneth Lown, 79, passed away at his home on Feb. 7, 2005, after a brief illness. He was born in Bloomington, Ill. on Nov. 19, 1925, the son of the late Richard G. and Adelphi (Miller) Lown.

Richard was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by three daughters, Mary C. Griffies of Edgewater, Md., Susan Marie Lown of Elkridge, Md., and Linda L. Stark of Honolulu, Hawaii; two sisters, Laura LaChance of Idaho and Dorothy Bachand of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no local visitation or funeral services. Interment will be in Arlington, Va.

The Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans is assisting the family.

RINA RINALDI LEACH

ST. ALBANS / MILTON - Mrs. Rina Rinaldi Leach, age 89, died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 15, 2005, in the Haven Health Care Center, following an extended period of failing health, with her nephew Bill Gonyeau at her bedside. She was born in St. Albans, Dec. 3, 1915, daughter of the late Charles and Concetta (Guidi) Rinaldi.

She was employed by the St. Albans Fruit Company, a family owned business, later at Union Carbide Consumer Products and Central Vermont Public Service. For 20 years before her retirement, she was the bookkeeper for Dr. Eugene and Margaret Lareau at the Lakeview Animal Hospital.

May 26, 1972, she married Donald C. Leach in St. Anthony’s Church in Sheldon Springs. Mr. Leach died Nov. 11, 1999. Rina is survived by her sister, Mrs. Mary Rinaldi Hebert of St. Albans; her special caregiver, nephew William Gonyeau of Sheldon Springs; and several other nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Donald, she was predeceased by her sisters Gemma Rinaldi Zirkle, Eva Rinaldi Gonyeau; and her brother, William Rinaldi.

Private funeral services will be held in the Brady & Levesque Chapel at the convenience of her family. Interment will be in the family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

CLARENCE JULIUS “WHITEY” LEMOINE

SWANTON -- Clarence Julius “Whitey” Lemoine, 77, was reunited with his wife Lila (O’Kane) on Tuesday evening, Feb. 15, 2005.

Clarence was born on Dec. 3, 1927, to the late Julius and Olive (Durocher) Lemoine. He attended Swanton schools and began working at an early age to help support his family. Clarence served in the Army Medical Corps in World War II and was honorably discharged on Feb. 15, 1947. Following his military service, he began a 35-year career with the Union Carbide Corporation. After his retirement he was also employed by Digital Corp in Burlington.

Clarence and his wife Lila were married on Aug. 11, 1947, and enjoyed 50 wonderful years together until she went home to be with the Lord on July 1, 1997.

Clarence is survived by his son, Jeffrey, and his wife, Mary Ann (LaRock) and their four children, Erica Rene (Woodell), Tiffany Elena (Dixon), Caitlin O’Kane and Caleb Jordan. Jeff, Mary Ann, Caitlin and Caleb currently live in Charlotte, N.C.

His daughter, Pamela and her husband Howard Jr. “Boy” Vanslette live on the Jones Road in Franklin. Their three children include Jessica Lynn (Rollo), Carrie Ann and Gina Marie.

Clarence is also survived by three sisters, Lucille Tatro of Rutland, Irene Martin and Doris Paquette of Swanton; three brothers-in-law, Leslie Parizo of Highgate Springs, Charles Martin of Colchester and Hubert Paquette of Swanton.

Clarence loved his five great-grandchildren, Kylie Grace, Abigail Faith, John Alfred, currently from Dallas, Texas with their parents, Erica and Erick and Matthew Mark and Olivia Lace who live in Highgate Springs with their parents, Jessica and Mark Rollo.

Clarence was also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers, Clifford, Harold and George Lemoine, three sisters, Ardelle Bellrose, Rose Ledoux, and Theresa Trahan. Also, by five brothers-in-law, Arthur Bellrose, Lee Tatro of Rutland, Arthur LeBlanc of Swanton, Philip Ledoux of Springfield, Vt. and Donald Trahan of Swanton; and one sister-in-law, Florence Parizo of Highgate Springs.

Clarence will always be remembered as a devoted and loving grandfather who had given special nicknames to his grandchildren which included, Papa’s Little Jewel, Blossom, Dove, Hummingbird, Matthew, and the North Carolina grandchildren were all known as Little Rebels.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Roland Ludlam, pastor of Church of the Rock in St. Albans Town will officiate. Interment will follow in the Lemoine Family lot in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening, Feb. 18, 2005, from 6 to 9 p.m.

KENNETH CYRIL DODD

EAST FAIRFIELD - Kenneth Cyril Dodd, age 85, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at the Haven Health Care Facility in St. Albans with his loving family at his side.

He was born Jan. 31, 1920, in Mystic, Quebec the son of the late Cyril and Ethel (McMillan) Dodd.

Kenneth has been a resident of East Fairfield since 1933. In 1942 he purchased the family dairy farm from his parents, semi-retiring when he sold the farm to his son in 1982. While farming he also enjoyed bee keeping and sugaring. As a young man he enjoyed fox hunting and working his trial beagles. Ken could always be seen on his four-wheeler tending to the horses and keeping track of the farm.

He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in St. Albans and the Lincoln Masonic Lodge 78 F&AM.

Married on June 16, 1942, he is survived by his wife, Avis (Wanzer) Dodd of East Fairfield; two children and their spouses, Edith and James Dimick of Bow, N.H., and Dennis and Linda Dodd of East Fairfield; four grandchildren, Laura Dimick of Portsmouth, N.H., Susan Dimick of Stratham, N.H., Erica Dodd of Somerville, Mass., and Justin Dodd of East Fairfield; a brother and his wife, Russell and Eleanor Dodd of Sheldon; a sister and her husband, Irene and Burt Strong of Craftsbury; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Eric and Francis “Jack” Dodd.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at 1 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in St. Albans with Reverend Dennis Hayward officiating. Interment will be next spring in the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

KENNETH G. AUSTIN

MERIDEN, Conn. -- Kenneth G. Austin, 80, beloved husband of the late Shirley F. (Ouimet) Austin, of Swain Avenue, Meriden, Conn. formerly of St. Albans, Vt., died Monday, Feb. 14, at his residence.

Born in Fairfield, Vt., June 4, 1924, a son of the late Faye and Grace (Ducharme) Austin, he had been a Meriden resident for 51 years. He had been employed by the American Cyanamid Company in Wallingford for 37 years retiring as Superintendent of Building No. 1. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Meriden.

He was a wonderful, kind and loving father and grandfather, to his two daughters, son and son-in-law, Sandra J. and John D. Brackley of Cromwell, Victoria A. (Mrs. Paul) Rohodi of Wallingford, Wendell K. Austin of Meriden; his two grandsons, Daniel Kenneth Brackley and Austin Paul Rohodi, who thought the world of him; his five sisters, Lucille Bevins and Ramona Giroux both of Swanton, Vt., Esther Putnum of St. Albans, Vt., Arlene St. Marie of Phoenix, Ariz. and Janice Austin of Middlebury, Mass.; his two brothers, Robert Austin of Grosvenordale, Conn. and Ralph Austin of St. Albans, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Shirley, he was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Luise M. Austin and his son-in-law, Paul F. Rohodi.

Ken’s family would like to extend their appreciation for the special care and support from his doctors, Dr. Giosa, Dr. Smith, Dr. Doug Smith of New Haven, his Pastors of the First United Methodist Church and their friends, during his long and courageous battle with emphysema.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford, Conn. Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church. The Reverend Eric Henderson, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in Meriden.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Ken’s memory may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 159 East Main St., Meriden, Conn., 06450.

WILLIAM J. PARTLOW

ST. ALBANS - Mr. William J. Partlow, age 53, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2005, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center following an extended illness, with his loving mother, sisters and brothers at his bedside. William was born in St. Albans, Jan. 26, 1952, the son of Blanche (Brosseau) and the late Curtis R. Partlow. He was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and attended the University of Vermont for four years.

He was employed by the Sheldon Pulp and Paper Mill, which later became Rock-Tenn Missisquoi Mill, for 27 years. For over 20 years he was the Union Treasurer of Local #340, United Paperworkers Union. As a young child, he was an alter server at Holy Angels Church. His favorite pastime was fishing from his summer home at Shanty Point. His best fishing buddies were Jacob “Jake” and Dustin, “Dusty, ” his nephews.

William is survived by his mother, Blanche Partlow, R.N., of St. Albans; his six sisters and brothers and their spouses, Robert and Jamie Partlow of Fairfield, Philip and Ann Partlow of Ludlow, Linda and Thomas Rocheleau of St. Albans Bay, Norman and Debra Partlow, Jeff and Shellie Partlow, Barbara and Thomas Walsh all of St. Albans; 19 nieces and nephews; one grand-niece and two grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Curtis R. Partlow, Dec. 21, 1994.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
