BEVERLY ANN SMITH

ST. ALBANS ­ Beverly Ann Smith, 66, a resident of 17 North Main Street in St. Albans City died early Thursday morning, April 5, 2001, in the Holiday House Nursing Facility in St. Albans Town.

Beverly was born in St. Albans April 11, 1934, the daughter of the late David and Imelda (Brusoe) Smith. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 758, Ladies Auxiliary in St. Albans.

Beverly leaves a daughter, Lisa Dansereau and a grandson, Brad Dansereau of Highgate; a sister, Phyllis Lefevre of Swanton; nieces and nephews, Debbie and Bill Northrup of Highgate Springs, Marlene and Richard Hunt of Washington, D.C., and Kim Carmen Lefevre of Swanton; great nieces and nephews, Brigett Northrup attending St. Lawrence University in Potsdam, N.Y., Chad and Katie Northrup of Framingham, Mass., and Heather and Kamel Hawa of Alexandria, Va., and a very special friend, Bert Biggie of St. Albans.

She was predeceased by a sister Elizabeth Palmer in 1998.

A graveside service will be held Monday, April 9, 2001, at 2 p.m. from St. Mary's Cemetery, Canada Street, Swanton. Father Charles H. Ranges, SSE, Pastor of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary will officiate. There will be no calling hours. Gifts in Beverly's memory may be made to The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton, VT 05488, or to the charity of one's choice.

LARRY L. BROWN, SR.

BELVIDERE -- Larry Lee Brown, Sr., age 66, a lifelong resident of Belvidere, passed away Wednesday morning, April 4, 2001, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. He was born in Belvidere on May 10, 1934, son of the late Ashton and Sylvia (Hutchins) Brown. He married the former Shirley Eldred in Belvidere on Sept. 3, 1955. He was employed by the Asbestos Mines in Lowell, Vt. for thirty-one years, worked at Fonda Container in St. Albans for several years and retired from IBM in 1997. Larry was devoted to a lifetime of public service, serving his Belvidere community over the years in various capacities including Town Clerk, Treasurer, School Director, Lister, Auditor, and Lamoille Union High School Director. He was also a member of the Belvidere Community Club, Mt. Norris Masonic Lodge, Belvidere Community Church and the Belvidere Cemetery Association. He looked forward to spring every year as a Vermont Sugarmaker. As an avid Baseball fan he always rooted for the Boston Red Sox and dedicated much of his time to working with, coaching and supporting the Little League Teams in Belvidere. He will be greatly missed by all of those who had the good fortune to know and love him.

He is survived by his wife Shirley (Eldred) Brown of Belvidere; three sons, Larry Lee Brown, Jr. of Belvidere, Neal Wesley Brown of Georgia, Stephen James Brown of Belvidere; three daughters, Emily Lapan and her husband Tim of Morrisville, Juanita Fern Brown of Belvidere, and Laureen Allen and her husband Bernard of Morrisville; one brother, Curtis Brown and his wife Lucille of St. Albans; two sisters, Louelle Bessette of St. Albans, Mary Tallman of Belvidere; 13 grandchildren, Shane, Hannah, Kelsey, Eli, Michaela, Ashton, Levi, Kristina, Erica, Holly, Alison, Matthew, Kevin; one great granddaughter, Cian, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by twin daughters, Holly and Eliza Brown; three brothers, Amsden, Wilbur and Carroll; two sisters, Sylvia Brown and Betty Ashline.

Visiting hours will be at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Friday, April 6, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2001, at 1 p.m. in the Mountain View Tabernacle Church, Belvidere. Interment will follow in the family lot in Belvidere Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Larry's memory to the Belvidere Community Club, c/o Charlene Spaulding, Treas., 5449 Vt. ELIZABETH N. PATTERSON

EAST CRAFTSBURY, VT. -- Elizabeth "Betty" N. Paterson, 81, of East Craftsbury, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at her home following a long illness.

She was born in Georgia, Vt. Dec. 24, 1919, the daughter of Park H. and Ruth (Stuart) Newton. She was a 1938 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and received a 3 year certificate from Johnson Normal School in 1941. She received her BA from Johnson State College in 1974.

On Oct. 17, 1945 she married James Paterson and they made their home together on the farm on Ketchum Hill Road in East Craftsbury. A loved and respected member of the community for over 55 years, Betty was a librarian at Craftsbury Academy then Sterling College for many years. She was an active member of the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church, a member of the Ladies Union, the Craftsbury Homemakers, a trustee of the East Craftsbury Cemetery and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a past member of the Board of Trustees of the John W. Simpson and the Craftsbury Public Libraries.

Betty deeply loved her family, her home, and her community and will be greatly missed by anyone who had the honor of knowing her.

She leaves two sons, James. R. Paterson of Burlington and John N. Paterson and his wife Karen of Richmond; two daughters, Jane P. Marlin and her husband Joseph, and Barbara R. Paterson and her husband Jim Whitby of Burlington; two brothers, Stuart Newton of St. Albans and Palmetto, Fla., and Robert Newton of Georgia and Dade City, Fla.; a sister Rebecca Ballard of Georgia; six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Kellam officiating. Spring interment will be in the East Craftsbury Cemetery. Friends may call at the family home in East Craftsbury Friday, April 6, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church, 1097 Ketchum Hill Rd., Craftsbury, VT 05826 or to the Craftsbury Public Library, Building Fund, Craftsbury Common, VT 05827.

The Malcolm R. Davis Funeral Home of Craftsbury is in charge of arrangements.

REGINALD A. MAXWELL

EDISON ­ Reginald A. Maxwell, 83, of Edison, died Saturday at JFK Medical Center, Edison.

Born in Sheldon, Vt. he lived in Westport, Conn., before moving to Edison 40 years ago.

Mr. Maxwell was a plant manager for 35 years at Alcoa-Aluminum Co., retiring in 1970. After that he was a salesman for five years with Vornado in Edison. He was then a supervisor for Owens-Illinois in East Brunswick for five years.

He was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a communicant of Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Edison.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Hortense Rice; two sons, Harold and his wife Frances of Edison, and David and his wife Holly of Bethlehem, Pa.; a daughter, Sandra Croker of Glassboro; a sister, Marie Wursthorn of Westfield, Vt., and eight grandchildren, David, Jaime, Matthew, Ryan, Megan, and Katelyn Maxwell and Sarah and Beth Croker.

Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Thursday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Ave., Edison, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass at Guardian Angels R.C. Church. Entombment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick.

ELLEN JAMISON LASELLE

ST. ALBANS, VT./SCARBOROUGH, MAINE -- Ellen J. Laselle, 81, a lifelong resident of St. Albans, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2001, in a Westbrook, Maine nursing care facility following a brief ilness. She was born in St. Albans Nov. 21, 1919, the daughter of the late George A. and Ellen (Bowen) Jamison. She was the widow of Arthur A. Laselle who died June 23, 2000. They were married April 28, 1945 in Louisiana.

Mrs. Laselle was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and a member of the First Congregational Church, the Fireside Club of the church and the Autonoe Club of St. Albans. She enjoyed reading and taking care of her home and was an avid bridge player.

Mrs. Laselle leaves a daughter and her husband, Diane and Donald Day and their children, Daniel and Sarah, all of Scarborough, Maine, a brother and his wife, George and Carol Jamison of St. Albans, a brother-in-law, Robert and his wife, Evelyn Laselle of Swanton and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Kathleen Jamison.

There will be no funeral service or visiting hours at this time. A memorial service will be held later this spring at a time to be announced. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Interment will be in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery in Swanton. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

BESSIE R. DOMINGUE

COLCHESTER -- Mom, God has put his arms around you and taken you from that awful struggle to breath. We love you and we will miss you every day but we want you to now rest in peace.

Bessie R. Domingue, 79, of Colchester and formerly of Brattleboro, died peacefully at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington March 30, 2001.

Bessie was formerly a resident of Holy Cross Senior Housing in Colchester. She was born on Nov. 8, 1921 in Jay, Vt., the daughter of the late Frank and Ellen (Johnson) Rice.

She attended schools in Jay. She was employed by Brattleboro Retreat and by the Book Press in Brattleboro, retiring after 25 years of service. She was married on Sept. 28, 1937 to Wilfred Domingue, who predeceased her in October 1995.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Larry Domingue and his wife Donna of Sheldon, Janice Dusharm and her husband John of Colchester, Myron Domingue and his wife Judith of Charlestown, N.H., and Paul Domingue and his wife Deborah of Hinsdale, N.H.; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one sister, Mabel Piette of Enosburg Falls. She was also predeceased by three brothers, James, Fabian and Adrian Rice.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Ready Funeral Chapel, 934 North Ave., Burlington. Burial will be in East Franklin Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Cross Senior Housing, c/o Kim Fitzgerald, 468 Church Road, Colchester, Vt 05446, or the American Lung Association of VT, 30 Farrell Street, So. Burlington, Vt 05403.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the Ready Funeral Home, 934 North Ave., Burlington.

MARY ANNA LORENZA (LAMORE) SARGENT

ST. ALBANS -- Lorenza Sargent passed away at her home Friday, March 30, 2001. She was born on April 23, 1921, the daughter of the late Florence (Potvin) and Anthime Lamore.

In her earlier years, she worked at the Mica Plant in Barre, The Vermont State Hospital, Sprague Electric in Barre, and the North Montpelier Woolen Mills. In later years she was a caregiver for many families, children and adults alike, where she used her gift to make each feel special.

In December 1977 she married Fredrick P. Sargent of Richford, Vt., who predeceased her on Jan. 19, 1982. After her husband's death she and her sister, Marie Estelle McCammon shared a home in St. Albans, where she resided until her death.

Lorenza is survived by her brothers, Romeo and Theresa Lamore of Montgomery Center, and Aime Lamore of Richmond; her sisters, Pauline Meadows of Athens, Ala., Marie Estelle McCammon of St. Albans, and Lorraine Despres of Suffield, Conn. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, including a special great nephew, Ethan Lee Baker who brought her so much love and joy in her last years. She also leaves behind many special friends including her lifelong friend, Gerry DeCell of Waterbury and Connie Lane of St. Albans who was her friend and Home Health Care Provider.

At Lorenza's request there will be no calling hours or service. A private family service will be held at the time of interment in the Sargent lot at the Hillside Cemetery in Richford in the spring.

Anyone wishing to remember Lorenza may do so by making a donation in her memory to Franklin County Home Health Agency at 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478.

Arrangements have been made under the direction of the Spears Funeral Home of Enosburg Falls, VT.

BERTRAM A. ROBTOY

ST. ALBANS- Bertram A. Robtoy, age 68, died Saturday evening, May 19, 2001, in the Veterans Center Hospital in white River Jct., following a long period of failing health. He was born in Burlington December 18, 1932 son of the late John and Mary (Greenwood) Robtoy. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and held memberships in the American Legion Post #1 of St. Albans, Post #12 in Richford and was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. he was married to Catherine "Kitty" Grandfield, who predeceased him in 1990.

Bert is survived by nine children and their spouses: Kevin Robtoy of Colchester, Lynn and John Mitchell of St. Albans Bay, Steven and Kim Robtoy of Richmond, Dawn Fendley and her companion Ed Longway of St. Albans Bay, John Robtoy of Colchester, Amy and Kevin Benjamin of Sheldon, Jeff Robtoy and his companion Tina Thompson of Highgate, Penny and Rick Patterson of St. Albans, Jason Robtoy of St. Albans and his special friend Shana Emch of Sheldon, Bert's special friend Danny Reilly of St. Albans Bay, 17 grandchildren, a great granddaughter, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his eight siblings Raymond, Herbert, Wilford (Joe), Clifton, Leonard, Delord (Jake), Madeline and Delma.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1, 2001, at 8 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Farther Dennis Hayward, Rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and Chaplain of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post #1, will officiate. The public is invited to call on the family from 7:00 p.m. until the service time Friday. Interment will be later in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

GOLDIE G. (WARD) BOUCHER

FAIRFAX - Goldie Gladys (Ward) Boucher, 79, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 24, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Sheldon Springs, Vt., on Oct. 1, 1921, daughter of the late James Coleman and Eliza (Breer) Ward. At age 16, she was a graduate of BFA St. Albans Class of 1938.

On Nov. 5, 1940, she married J. Maurice Boucher in Sheldon Springs. They spent their married life farming in Highgate Center and Fairfax. She was a dedicated homemaker all of her life.

Goldie always looked forward to the precious times spend with her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in being an avid Yankee fan and especially enjoyed her country and western music having a great appreciation for the Statler Brothers group. Goldie's love and attentions will be greatly missed by her entire family and all of those who had the good fortune to know and love her.

Besides her loving husband of 60 years, J. Maurice Boucher of Fairfax, she is also survived by four sons, Peter Boucher and his wife, Jean, of Sacramento, Calif., Paul Boucher and his wife, Doreen, of Sumter, S. C., Michael and Cindy Boucher of Fairfax, Ronald Boucher and his wife, Brenda, of Swanton; four daughters, Ramona Bruley, of Fairfax and her friend Wayne Moffitt, Mary Skillin and her husband, Kenneth, of Springfield, Vt., Kathleen Sargent and her husband, Norman, of Brattleboro, Vt., Linda McGraw and her husband, Laurance IV, of Swanton; a sister, Evelyn Bocash of Sheldon; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters, two grandsons and a great granddaughter.

Visiting hours were held on Sunday, May 27, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at The Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated at St. Luke Church today, Tuesday, May 29, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Francis E. Connor officiating. Interment followed in the family lot in St. Luke's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Goldie's memory to Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or The American Cancer Society, New England Division, 11 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602. Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.
