ALAN ARTHUR HENDEE

BURLINGTON -- Alan Arthur Hendee, 79, died peacefully Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home. Alan was born in Grand Isle on May 14, 1925, the son of Walter and Matilda (Socia) Hendee.

He lived in the Milton / Colchester area on the family farm. He lived for over 39 years with the Lamphere and Martin families.

Alan is survived by his sisters, Ella Brown of Milton and Lena Cross of Grand Isle. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Leon, John, Joe, Theodore, Lucy, Christine and Irene Hendee.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

WINIFRED E. (TELMOSSE) PERRON

ST. ALBANS CITY -- Winifred E. (Telmosse) Perron passed away surrounded by family at the Northwestern Medical Center, Monday, March 14, 2005, following a short illness.

Winifred was born on Feb. 14, 1913, to George and Florence (Deyo) Telmosse. She was always proud of the fact that she was a Valentine baby.

She was predeceased by her husband Arnold L. Perron on April 19, 1962; several brothers and sisters; and more recently by her husband George E. Perron in 1980.

She is survived by her son, Arnold J. Perron of Cross, S.C.; her grandchildren, Kevin and Kim Wells of St. Albans, Steven and Rose Perron of St. Albans, Fred and Cindy Perron of Dallas, N.C., Michael and Rebecca Bushey of Sheldon and Anthony Perron of North Carolina. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Steven and James Perron, Roby Mayo, Amanda, Adam and Samantha Quiser, A.J. Perron and Sara Young; and several nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed visits from friends and relatives and a chance to use her quick wit.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

In keeping with Winifred’s wishes there will be no public calling hours. Funeral Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements have been under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, Swanton.

GEORGE R. BUSHEY

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. George R. Bushey, age 97, a former resident of Four Winds Housing, died Tuesday morning, March 15, 2005, in the Haven Health Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Fairfax, July 10, 1907, son of the late Charles and Clara (Paro) Bushey.

He was a dairy farmer most of his working life. He also was employed for 18 years at Flanders Lumber Company and worked for Economu Cheese Factory and the Mary Fletcher Hospital. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1090 and the Franklin County Senior Citizens. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

His survivors include two daughters, Beulah Hulbert of Highgate and Leona and her husband Daniel Williams of Fairfax; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special friend, Ethel Ashline of St. Albans. George was predeceased by his wife Grace Clara Garrett Bushey in 1972. Also by his daughter Barbara Boylan; all of his sisters and brothers Fred Bushey, Bessie Nichols, Arthur Bushey, Jessie Bushey, Jeremy Bushey, Mary Bushey and Gertrude Ryan.

George’s family would like to express their appreciation for all the kindnesses shown him by the staff of Haven Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St. from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be next spring in the Bushey family lot in East Cemetery in Williston.

Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

ERNEST E. GADOUAS

ST. ALBANS -- Ernest E. Gadouas, 90, a longtime St. Albans resident, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2005, at the Northwestern Medical Center with his loving family at his side. He was born in St. Albans on Feb. 20, 1915, the son of the late Francis and Eva (Allen) Gadouas. Ernest was married to the former Lauretta Jean who predeceased him.

Ernest was a longtime employee of the former Central Vermont Railroad as a blacksmith and then operated his own farm for several years.

Survivors include his daughter; Theresa Flanagan of St. Albans; his six grandchildren: Pam Brunelle, Brian Flanagan and his wife, Melanie, Paula Palmer and her husband, Danny, Shaun Flanagan, Patrick Flanagan and Colleen Brant and her husband, Brad; his 11 great-grandchildren: Mitchell, Matthew, Morgun, Ashley, Mikala, Rachael, Jacob, Jeffrey, Harlie, Mariah and Megan; his companion, Joyce DeMarinis of Swanton and her family, Larry and Linda Rochon, Wendy and Harold Derosia and their son, Nathan and Sonya and Matt Parsons. In addition to his parents and wife, Lauretta, he is predeceased by his five brothers, Edmund, Alcide, Oscar, Hermus and Alfred.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 17, 2005, at 11 a.m. from Holy Angels Catholic Church, Lake St., St. Albans. Interment will follow in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Ernest's family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

MARGARET MARY BELROSE

SWANTON -- Mrs. Margaret Mary Belrose, 85, passed away early Friday morning, March 11, 2005, in the Haven Health Care Center.

She was born in Highgate, June 5, 1919, the daughter of the late Perly and Delena (Greenwood) Longe. She lost her parents at an early age and was raised by her older sister for a few years until she married Louis Charles Belrose on June 27, 1936. He predeceased her on June 26, 1973.

She was a member of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary where she belonged to the Ladies of St. Anne. In her earlier years she was a very avid Bingo player and also enjoyed playing Parcheesi with her husband Louis and Ralph and Kit Minckler. She liked visiting with everyone and loved children, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed cooking breakfast for her grandkids; whether it was pancakes, flat eggs or hamburg in her own special way. She answered to many names Ma, Mom, Grammy, Gram, Mim, Mimi and great-grawmy. She loved knitting, reading and shopping, especially grocery shopping with flyer coupons.

Margaret is survived by two sons, Marvin Belrose and his wife Peggy of Land of Lakes, Fla., and Gary Belrose and his wife Andrea of Swanton; twin daughters, Carol Concannon and her husband James of Milton, and Carolyn Callan and her husband Peter of Swanton; 10 grandchildren: Eric, David, Jeffrey, Robert, Thomas and Mark Belrose and Danny Bourdeau, Julie Concannon and Patrick and Jonathan Callan; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Guilford (Catherine) Medor of Swanton and Mrs. Marcel (Helen) Renault of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Bellrose; and a sister-in-law, Gwen Belrose both of Swanton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was predeceased by her sisters, Angelina, Louise, Nelda, Rita, Geraldine and Calla; and her brothers, Kenneth and Isadore; and a grandson, Michael Belrose.

She will be missed by all and greatly welcomed by her Lord and Savior.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Belrose family lot in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Margaret’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Shrine, 512 Saratoga Street, Baltimore, Md. 21201.

ROBERT V. RICH

FAIRFAX -- Robert Vernon Rich, 83, passed away Friday, March 11, 2005, at Haven Health Care in St. Albans. He was born in Fairfax, Feb. 13, 1922, son of the late Bert and Rhoda (Learned) Rich.

He served his country well as an aircraft mechanic with the U.S. Army during World War II. He then went on to form the union with Fonda Containers, where he worked for many years as a machine operator. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 1, St. Albans. He took great pride in being one of the original members of the Fairfax Fire Department. Robert will be greatly missed by all of those who had the true privilege to know and love him.

He is survived by two stepsons, Kevin A. Bushey of Fairfax, and Michael Bushey and his wife Patricia of West Palm, Fla. and their family; his nieces, nephews and their families, Reggie and Pat Broe of Fairfax, Eleanor and John Cross, and Arlene Morgan of Fletcher, Geoff and Laurie Broe of Georgia, Greg Broe of Colchester, Gary “Sam” and Ann Broe of Fletcher, Bert and Laurie Broe of Jeffersonville, Mike and Vicki Broe of Westford, Robert and Linda Howard of Fairfax, Linda and Richard McNall of Fairfax, Susan Flanders and Ed Lambert of Swanton, Beverly Carter of Coco Beach, Fla., Bert and Kathy Rich of Nashua, N.H., Frank Rich of Juno, AK; several great-nieces and great-nephews; in-laws, Maynard and Rita Gosselin of St. Albans, Norman and Carmen Gosselin of St. Albans; and “Duke, ” his favorite dog. He was also predeceased by the love of his life and lifelong companion, Leona “Lee” Bushey; three brothers, Albert Rich, Carl Rich and Hiram Rich; two sisters, Nellie Broe and Helen Howard.

Visiting hours will be held today, March 14, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 1 p.m. in the United Church of Fairfax with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Internment will be in the family lot in the Sanderson Corners Cemetery in the spring.

CAROLYN E. ROBERTS

RICHFORD - Carolyn E. Roberts, 67, died at Redstone Villa, St. Albans on Friday, March 11, 2005. She was born in Middlefield, Mass. on April 29, 1937, the daughter of Irvin and Annadochia (Filmore) Pelkey. She married Harold Roberts, Sr. in 1960; he predeceased her in 2000.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Harold and Darlene Roberts of Richford, Charles and Barbara Roberts of the State of Georgia, Rebecca and Steven Goodroe of Richford, Brenda Longtin of Deltona, Fla., and William and Tonya Roberts of Georgia, Vt.; grandchildren Jody and Jennifer Bean, Heather and Jennifer Badger, Crystal Mayo, Dustin Roberts, Elizabeth and Kimberly Proper, Tynna and Sierra Longtin, and Tasha Roberts; her sisters, Elizabeth White of Mass. and Agnes Mannings of Westford, Vt. Carolyn was predeceased by her daughter Roberta Bean in 1981; and two sisters, Dorothy and Emily.

Donations may be made in Carolyn’s name to Rebecca Goodroe, 59 Eastern Ave., Richford, Vt. 05476.

A funeral service and celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held on Tuesday at noon in the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd, Burlington. Visiting hours will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, until the time of the service. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in the spring.

HENRY PHILLIP SCHWERDTFEGER

MONTGOMERY CENTER - Henry Phillip Schwerdtfeger passed away Saturday, March 5, on his 91st birthday at the home of his daughter, Phyllis, surrounded by loved ones, as was always his wish.

He was born March 5, 1914, in Flushing Queens, N.Y., the son of the late Phillip and Anna (Goetz) Schwerdtfeger.

As a young man Henry had worked on his family’s farm and since he was seven he had a garden of his own. Growing up he always had a horse, at the age of eight he was working behind a team of horses plowing. At 13 he drove a truck to New York City to Market to deliver the family’s produce. His last occupation was as a landscaper which he did until he was 82.

He had made his home in Long Island, N.Y. for almost 41 years and had also lived in Florida, Maryland and Connecticut. For the last eight years of his life he resided in Montgomery with his daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Robert Worthington and was able to have many of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around to visit. “Thank you, Papa, for always watching over us.”

Henry would share his stories of being through the Great Depression as a farmer and all of his experiences with farm animals, crops, etc. which the family would love to hear.

He is survived by his three children, Laura Snyder and her husband Frederick of West Berkshire, their four children and nine grandchildren; Henry Schwerdtfeger and his wife Helen of Seattle (Issaquah), Wash., their four children and three grandchildren; and Phyllis Worthington and her husband Robert of Montgomery Center, their four children and 17 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife, Laura (Cobb) Schwerdtfeger; and by a sister, Dorothy Spencer.

In keeping with Henry’s wishes he will be cremated. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls is in charge of arrangements.

ARMOND L. “LARRY” MOSSEY JR.

FAIRFAX -- Armond Lawrence “Larry” Mossey Jr., age 73, passed away early Thursday morning, March 10, 2005, at Northwest Medical Center in St. Albans, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in St. Albans, Oct. 3, 1931, son of the late Armond and Maude (Kane) Mossey.

He married the former Bessie Roig in November of 1978 in Cambridge, Vt. He had served his country well as an airman in the U.S. Airforce. He was a very hard worker and a dedicated employee for many years with Jaggers Construction. Larry was always able to find time for his family, which was always in the forefront of his life. His unconditional love will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by his loving wife Bessie (Roig) Mossey of Fairfax; two sons, Robert Mossey and fiancé Tina Bidwell and her daughters Megan and Stephanie of Georgia, George Mossey of Texas; one daughter, Cyndi Mossey of Texas; four sisters: Joyce of Fairfax, Phyllis of Florida, Patricia of Connecticut and Linnda of Michigan; sister-in-law, Peggy Devarney and her husband Ernie of Georgia; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including Connie Devarney; special friends: Kevin and Kara Campbell, Todd Blanchard, Bob Ovitt, John and Gina Meigs, Jim and Dale Webb, Del and Elaine Sweatt, Josh Couture and Garrett Webb. He was also predeceased by a son, Armond Mossey III; and a daughter, Vicki Mossey.

The family would like to extend a special note of appreciation to Kevin Campbell who stayed with the family throughout Larry’s illness.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the United Church of Fairfax with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Internment will be in the family lot in the Carroll Hill Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions in Larry’s memory may be made directly to the family in care of Bessie Mossey, 71 Rood Mill Rd., Fairfax, VT 05454.

BEATRICE ETTA MCDERMOTT

SWANTON / ST. GEORGE, Vt. -- Mrs. Beatrice Etta McDermott, 82, a native and former resident of Lakewood Drive in West Swanton, died Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2005, in the Birchwood Terrace Health Care Center in Burlington with family by her side.

Born in Swanton, Jan. 30 1923, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Frances (Stoliker) Root. She attended Swanton High School and in 1943 was married to Kenneth Joseph McDermott who predeceased her on Jan. 15, 1995.

In earlier years Beatrice lived in Billerica, Mass. where she belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. In 1974 she returned to Swanton, Vt. Prior to her admission to Birchwood Terrace she had lived for a time with her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Jeff Bennett in St. George. She will be remembered as a very loving person always willing to care for family, friends or anyone in need.

Bea leaves three daughters, Gail Berube Kandler and her husband Edward of Leander, Texas, Lois Bourque and her husband Russell of Palm Bay, Fla. and Elaine Bennett and her husband Jeff of St. George; 11 grandchildren, Paul “P.K.” Berube and James Berube of Leander, Texas, Scott Berube of Cambridge, Minn., Stephen Marchant, Jr. of Methuen, Mass., Joseph Marchant of Manassas, Va., Robert Marchant of Leominster, Mass., Michael Marchant of Kissimmee, Fla., John Ryan and his wife Karen of Swanton, Michelle Ryan of St. Albans, Kristy Ryan of St. Albans and David Ryan Stationed with the U.S. Army at Ft. Hood, Texas; two step-grandsons, Josh and Andy Bennett of Burlington; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille Levick of Swanton, Ruth Palmer of Milton and Marion Wolcott of Swanton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Ella Hakey and Dorothy Sanborn; and four brothers, Lester, John, Donald and Allen Root.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at 10 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Interment will follow in the McDermott family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, March 14, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
