CLAUDE GAGNE
NAPLES, Fla. -- Claude Gagne, 72, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Enfield, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2005, in Florida. Claude was born in Swanton, Vt. on Jan. 4, 1933, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Gagne) Gagne.

After attending school in his earlier years, Claude enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Upon completing his term of service in the Army, Claude worked for more than 20 years for White Oak Construction Company as a foundation builder. He later worked for Pool Man Pool, in East Windsor before relocating with the company to Florida.

In his spare time Claude enjoyed fishing and was known to family and friends as a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest.

He will be sadly missed by: his three sons, Roy Gagner and his wife Ann of Windsor Locks, James Gagner and his wife Gabrielle of Enfield and Matthew Gagner and his wife Lisa of Enfield; one daughter, Claudine Gagner of Enfield; three brothers: Norman, Marcel and Daniel Gagne all of Vermont; four sisters: Gloria and Angie Tetreau, Gisele Bushey and Mariette Lemery all of Vermont. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and three step-grandchildren. He also leaves a special friend, Dennis McGloin of Florida. Along with his parents, Mr. Gagne is preceded in death by four of his brothers.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, Conn. Cremation and interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Claude’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, April 15, 2005, at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m.

Contributions in remembrance of Mr. Gagne may be directed to the American Heart Association, 2550 US RT 1, North Brunswick, N.J. 08902-4301.

ELIZABETH McGRATH
Elizabeth (Paradee) McGrath, 88, a longtime Framingham resident, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Sebastian River Medical Center in Roseland, Fla.

Born in Fairfield, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Gordon Jay Paradee and Isabel Mae (DeCalie) Paradee. Elizabeth graduated from Swanton High School and Bentley Business College in Boston.

She was an accounting bookkeeper and was employed for some years by the town of Framingham. She enjoyed reading, bingo and visits to casinos, but especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren.

She leaves her daughter, Deborah Knight Barnaby of Framingham; her sons: James McGrath of Albany, N.Y., Richard McGrath and his wife Cindy of Harrisburg, Pa., and William McGrath of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; her grandchildren: Daniel and Brian Knight, and Kelly and Sean Barnaby, all of Framingham; and her sisters: Mabel Vaughen of Weir, N.H., and Dorothy Keefe and her husband Bernard of Fairfax, Vt.

Committal services were held Monday, April 4, at 10:30 a.m. in Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framingham.

Instead of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to East End House, 105 Spring St., Cambridge, Mass. 02141.

ELEANOR MARY MARGARET BRADFORD
BURLINGTON - Eleanor Mary Margaret Bradford, 58, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Eleanor was born on July 24, 1946 in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of Howard and Frances (Rattigan) Willard.

She had worked for many years in the St. Johnsbury area for NEKCA as a Substance Abuse Councilor.

Ellie has resided at St. Joseph’s Residential Care Home in Burlington since August.

She enjoyed working with crafts and was very proud of her children and grandchildren.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Christine Racicot and her husband Paul of Milton; by her sons: William Bradford and his wife Lori of Louisville, Ky., and Brian Bradford of Cincinnati, Ohio; by her grandchildren: Justin, Joshua, Cody, Lauren, Ryan and Julia. She is also survived by her brothers: James Willard and his wife Marge of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Colchester, John Willard and his wife Susan of Grand Isle; by her sister Frances Alibrio and her husband Anthony of Manchester, Conn.; and by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Willard; and by her companion, Kenneth Farrand.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 14, 2005, at 2 p.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Milton. Burial will be in the William Dexter Cemetery in Sheffield on Friday, April 14, at 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Lung Association, 30 Farrell St., So. Burlington, Vt. 05403-9987.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

MAYSIL W. LONGE
ENOSBURG FALLS -- Maysil W. Longe, age 79, passed away Monday, April 11, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born in Bakersfield, April 2, 1926, the daughter of the late James and Lillian (Shepard) Westcom.

Maysil was a resident of Enosburg Falls most of her life. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 42 of Enosburg Falls where she was employed for 12 years retiring in 1995. Prior to that, she was employed at Carney’s Restaurant in Enosburg Falls.

She is survived by three brothers and their wives: James and Dorothy Westcom of Bakersfield, Harold and Lynda Westcom of Fairfield, and William Westcom of Eden; a sister-in-law, Ruth Westcom of Rutland; a brother-in-law, Clarence Young of Bakersfield; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by two sisters, Gladys Young and Edna Westcom; a half brother, Kelton Westcom of Deltona, Fla.; and a half sister, Arbutus Patterson of Rutland.

In keeping with Maysil’s wishes there will be no funeral services or visiting hours. She will be buried in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield at the convenience of the family.

CECELIA TRAHAN BEAULIEU
SWANTON -- Mrs. Cecelia Trahan Beaulieu, 92, a longtime Swanton resident, went to heaven to be with the Lord on Friday, April 8, 2005, at the Northwestern Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Sheldon, Vt. on Nov. 24, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Evelyn (Lambert) Cooper. Her mother died during childbirth and Cecelia was raised by her aunt and uncle, Cynthia and Zephire Bovat. They have both predeceased her.

She attended schools in Sheldon and Milton and on July 11, 1934, was married to Leo Trahan who predeceased her in 1969. On Sept. 5, 1970, she married Philippe Francois Beaulieu who also predeceased her on Sept. 18, 1992. She was a devoted parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a former member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She worked many years as a seamstress at the former Swanton Sewing Room and later for General Electric in Burlington. She will be remembered as always stressing family values. She was a loving and caring person both to her family and to all who knew her.

Cecelia leaves her five children and their spouses: Bernard and Arlene Trahan of Highgate Center, Solange Gaboury Feldmann and her husband Paul of Liberty Corner, N.J., Anita and Lanny Loveland of Cambria, Calif., Ovila and Delores Trahan of Swanton and Renee and Wayne Cears of Enfield, Conn.; three stepchildren and their spouses: Jacques and Donna Beaulieu of Swanton, Raymond and Charlotte Beaulieu of Alexandria, Va. and Aline and Philip Bushey of Smyrna, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Gabriel Trahan of Trois Rivieres, Quebec Canada; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Madeleine Nolin of Burlington; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her bothers, George Cooper and Ralph, Harold and Raymond Bovat; a son-in-law, Raymond Gaboury; and a grandson, Gary Gaboury.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Beaulieu family lot in St. Louis Roman Catholic Cemetery in Highgate Center. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Monday, April 11, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

HAROLD R. “BUSTER” DENNIS
COLCHESTER -- Harold Robert “Buster” Dennis, 82, passed away during the morning hours of April 8, 2005, in Birchwood Nursing Home, Burlington. He was born in Burlington on Nov. 9, 1922, son of the late Peter and Mary (Lemoine) Dennis. Buster married the former Doris Utter on June 28, 1952, in St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Winooski.

He was a dedicated furnace repair technician for McEwing Fuel Oil Co. for many years. From 1989 until the spring of 2004, Buster devoted his time to automotive parts delivery for Bond Auto Parts. He enjoyed spending his free time hunting in the pristine mountains of Vermont. Buster was an avid snowmobiler and a loyal member of the Smuggler’s Notch Snowmobile Club. He was well known in the snowmobile community for his ability to navigate the network of Vermont snowmobile trails, day or evening. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Doris (Utter) Dennis of Colchester; his son, Robert Harold Dennis of Swanton; his daughter, Eleanor Jimmo and her husband Todd of Colchester; nine grandchildren: Dennis, Robert, Anthony, Mary, Erica, Bobby, David, Nate, and Matthew; nine great-grandchildren; a niece; and several cousins. He was also predeceased by his sister, Ruth Graveline.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at A.W. Rich Funeral Home, Essex Chapel, 57 Main St, Essex Jct. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Fairfax with Reverend Francis Connors officiating. Inurnment will follow in the family lot in St. Luke Catholic Cemetery, Fairfax. A reception will follow at St. Luke’s Parish Hall.

Memorial contributions may be made in Buster’s memory to Vermont Association of Snow Travelers, V.A.S.T., 41 Granger Rd., Barre, Vt. 05641.

Arrangements are by John D. Workman of A.W. Rich Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Essex Junction.

DAVID WAYNE WETHERBY
BERKSHIRE / FLORIDA - David Wayne Wetherby, 49, of Laudi, Fla., died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 7, 2005, at his home in Florida.

He was born in St. Albans on Nov. 2, 1955, the son of Irving and Bessie Wetherby.

He attended school in Berkshire and Richford. He served in the Army and resided in Florida.

He is survived by five brothers and one sister: Raymond Phillips Jr. of Berkshire Center, Robert and Brenda Phillips of Putney, Raymond and Jacqueline Meunier of Richford, Donald Lee Wetherby of Richford, Bruce and Debbie Wetherby of Berkshire, and Michael and Nancy Wetherby of Berkshire Center. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Bessie Wetherby.

Graveside burial will be at a later date.

EMILY MONAGHAN, C.N.D.
Emily Monaghan, C.N.D., 95, passed away at Villa Marguerite, Pierrefonds, Quebec, on March 16, 2005. She was the daughter of the late Frank Monaghan and Laure Rouleau.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Theresa and Madeline; and her brothers, Peter, Francis, Patrick and Charles. She leaves to mourn her sister, Patricia Nault; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends. She will be sorely missed by her companions at Villa Marguerite.

Sister Emily began her teaching career at St. Anne’s Academy in Montreal and after 18 years went to St. Anthony’s. In 1950, she was assigned to the
States and spent 30 years in St. Albans, St. Jeans, N.Y., Waterbury, Conn. and St. Johnsbury. She spent over 20 years in St. Albans. She returned to Canada in 1980 and spent one year at Richmond as organist in the parish. In 1981 she retired at Villa Marguerite.

She was in her 75th year as Sister of St. Francis of Lima.

WINFRED DeGOOSH
FRANKLIN -- Winifred (Irish) Gates - DeGoosh, age 86, passed away Tuesday evening, April 5, 2005, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

She was born the first child of Harry and Ruth (Tatro) Irish on Christmas day 1918 in Westford, Vt.

Winifred graduated salutatorian from Franklin High School in 1936. She worked a short time at the Franklin Telephone Company as an operator. Her career as a bookkeeper spanned 40 years, first at the Enosburg Commission Sales and then at Hicks’ Commission Sales in Hyde Park.

Her greatest joy was knitting hats, sweaters, mittens, and blankets, first for her grandchildren and then her great-grandchildren. As her family outgrew their need for her knitted goods, the Franklin United Church’s Layettes with Love became her focus. She was always making a pink or blue sweater for the next new baby in town.

Her many dear nieces and nephews fondly remember Aunt Winnie making her various sweet treats for the family get-togethers at Christmas at Gramp and Gram’s on Church St.

She was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star Martha Washington Chapter. She was also a member of the Franklin United Church, and was one of the original residents of the Franklin Homestead. At the Franklin Homestead she was able to maintain her independence in part to the constant compassionate care provided by the Franklin County Home Health Agency.

Winifred is survived by her children and their spouses: Howard and Mary Gates of Franklin, Carolyn and Stephen Perley of Enosburgh, and Susan and Douglas Clark of Franklin. She also leaves her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Patricia and Marty Whittemore, Jonathan and Karen Gates and their children, Benjamin, Justin and Noah; Steven and Jill Gates and their children, Emily and Madeleine; Betsy and Jeff Baker and their children, Hanna and Zachariah; Deborah and Tom Cook; Stephen II and Lori Perley and their children, Nicholas and Matthew; Katherine and Shawn Rouleau; Daniel and Angie Clark and their children, Kaylee and Taylor. She is also survived by her sisters: Ruth Ann Cramton and her husband Mark of Bristol, N.H., and Norma Barrows and her husband Ralph of Stowe; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers: Robert, Philip and Stuart Irish; and her great-grandson, Thomas Cook.

A graveside memorial service will be held Sunday, May 29, at 1 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Franklin with Pastor Jason McConnell officiating. There will be no visiting hours.

CARMI DUSO
ENOSBURG FALLS / EAST MONTPELIER - Carmi J. Duso, age 101, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Haven Health Care Facility in St. Albans.

He was born Nov. 22, 1903, in Enosburg Falls, the son of the late Henry and Lena (Benoit) Duso.

Carmi was a resident of Enosburg Falls until 1969, at which time he moved to East Montpelier and lived there until 2004. He moved back to Enosburg Falls, ands made his home at the Brownway residence. He was employed at New England Telephone for 42 years, retiring in 1969, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

All of his life, Carmi was very active and involved in many community groups and organizations; member of the Enosburgh Fire Dept. serving as Chief for 24 years, member and past president of the Franklin County Fire Fighters Assoc., member and past president of the Vermont State Fire Fighters, Assoc., member and past president of the Vermont State Fire Chiefs Assoc., member and past president of the New England Fire Chiefs Assoc., charter member and past president of the Enosburg Falls Lions Club, which he was very involved with the June Dairy Festival, Director of the Boy Scouts of America and received the Order of the Arrow Award for adult leadership, member of the Vermont Snow Travelers Association (VAST) for which he served as executive director for 20 years from 1972 to 1992 and served as their lobbyist to the Vermont Legislature. He was also very instrumental in securing the current trail system throughout Vermont. Snowmobilers honored him with the Iron Dog Brigade Award in 1986. He was also a member of the International Snowmobile Congress.

He enjoyed hunting, golf, tennis, photography, snowmobiling and skiing.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Ovitt) Duso of East Montpelier; his children, Ronald Duso and his wife Shirley of Enosburg Falls, and Elsie Corey and her husband Charles of Blaine, Minn.; his stepchildren, Robert Lumnah and his wife Nancy of Kingston, N.H., James Dudley and his wife Faith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Barbara Hayes of Enosburg Falls, and Charlene McIntire and her husband Jonathan of Longwood, Fla.; one brother, Jackson Duso and his wife Kay of Cow Island, N.H.; two sisters, Helen Rainault of Williston, and Pearl Sterling of Louisiana; numerous grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Bertha (Haire) Duso; his second wife, Hilda (Lumnah) Duso; and his siblings, Earl, Eula, Mary and Walter.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, April 10, at 2 p.m. at the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church, with Pastor Cheryl Heater officiating. Interment will follow in the West Enosburg Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
