TERRY LEE DURKEE
HIGHGATE -- Terry Lee Durkee, 48, a Highgate resident for most of his lifetime, died Wednesday morning, March 30, 2005, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington following an illness of several months.

Born in St. Albans on Sept. 14, 1956, he was the son of Homer Sr. and Jean (Machia) Durkee. He attended Highgate Elementary School and graduated from Missisquoi Valley Union Highgate School. He was married to the former Rita Leak, who survives him.

Terry had been associated with Lucille Farm Products of Swanton for nine years and more recently worked as a mechanic and welder for George Britch and Bourdeau Brothers, Inc.

Besides his wife of California, Terry leaves his mother, Mrs. Jean Durkee of St. Albans City; two brothers and their wives, Homer Jr. and Ruth Durkee of Sheldon, and John and Arlene Durkee of Long, S.C.; his nieces and nephews: Christopher Durkee and his wife Paula, Tina Lamos and her husband Jeff, Karen Eggleston and Larry Sampiro, Heather Prive and her husband Andy, Kim Smith and her husband John and Heidi Noyes and her husband Ken; 19 great nieces and nephews; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

His father Homer Durkee Sr. predeceased him in September of 1985.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 4, 2005, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Sunday, April 3, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Terry’s memory may be made to Amcare Ambulance Service, 256, South Main Street, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

LAURENTIA S. MAGNAN
ST. ALBANS — After a life of caring for others, Miss Laurentia S. Magnan, age 91, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, in the Holiday House Residential Care Home.

She was born in St. Alexis, Quebec, July 27, 1913, daughter of the late Leonidas and Anna (Perrault) Magnan. She spent most of her life as a homemaker for herself, her family and others.

She is survived by her two sisters, Monica Lemnah of Greenville, N.C., and Gertrude Sweeney of Jeffersonville; her brother, Henry Magnan and his wife Loretta of Fairfield; sister-in-law Loretta Magnan of Montpelier; and several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her parents; her sisters, Gabrielle Boudrais and Rose Anna Duval; her brothers, Napoleon, Odilon, Euclide, and Leonidas Magnan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Church in Fairfield.

Visiting hours will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made in her name to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

PAUL J. PREGENT
BURLINGTON — Paul J. Pregent, 87, died peacefully Sunday, March 27, 2005, at his home following a long illness. He was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Montreal, Canada, the son of Thomas and Aurora (LeBlanc) Pregent.

Paul served in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain on the B29 during World War II. He worked for many years as a research and development engineer for various manufacturing companies in New England. Paul served as a Boy Scout leader for many years.

Paul loved the outdoors. He was an expert marksman and loved hunting, fishing, and boating. He took great pleasure in spending time with the neighborhood boys, teaching them hunting, fishing and boating. He also enjoyed taking them on boat trips to Canada.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 28 years; his two children, Michael and his wife Donna of LaJolla, Calif., and Michele Pregent of Cape Cod, Mass.; two stepchildren, Deborah Kendall and her husband Steve of Underhill, and Ronald Gillilan and his wife Sueann of Middlesex; three grandsons, Michael, Louis and Christopher Chouinard; five stepgrandchildren, Bethany, Charlie, Jeffrey, and Jaymi Kendall and Shane Gillilan; and several nephews and cousins. He also leaves a brother, Dennis Pregent and his wife Betty. He was predeceased by his daughter, Madeline Pregent, in 2000.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Paul's name to Hospice of the Champlain Valley, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446. Arrangements are in the care of Stephen C. Gregory Cremation Service, Shelburne.

LOUIS JOSEPH BOUCHARD, SR.
DELTONA, Fla. / HIGHGATE CENTER, Vt. - Louis Joseph Bouchard was called by the Lord to the side of his beloved wife, Theresa Mae Savage Bouchard, on Dec. 15, 2004.

Born on June 12, 1922, to Domina and Adele Bouchard, he lived his childhood years along with his two sisters and seven brothers in the Town of Highgate. Louis married his first and only love, Theresa Mae Savage, on Nov. 20, 1948. Together they lived in Swanton and then moved to Highgate Center where they resided for 26 years and raised their family of four.

During his life, he was actively involved in the local community. Louis was instrumental in starting the Highgate Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Captain for a number of years. He also served as Justice of the Peace and Deputy Sheriff in Franklin County. Louis was an active member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Knights of Columbus. He owned and operated his own construction company in Vermont and in 1979 moved to Central Florida where he experienced a very successful business as a home builder for many years. At the time of his death he was still very active in the daily operation of Lou's Appliance, his Sales and Service appliance business.

He leaves behind three daughters and one son and their spouses: Adele Paquette, Louis and Andrea Bouchard, Suzanne Bouchard and Mary Jane and Gary Bouchard-Pike; seven grandchildren: Cory Paquette, Joseph Paquette, Laurie Elwood, Christopher Bombardier and Scott Bombardier, Chelsea Bouchard and Jason Bouchard; and five great-grandchildren: Monicah, Alissah, and Yuilla Paquette, Ariana and Hayden Paquette.

Dad, you will be greatly missed and were the anchor in our lives. Please watch over and protect us. You and mom are deeply loved and truly missed. Your loving children, Adele, Louis, Suzanne and Mary Jane.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2005, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Parish in Highgate Center. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Louis Cemetery.

MARJORIE E. NAPOLI, RN
ST. ALBANS - Marjorie E. Napoli, 85, a lifelong area resident, passed away early Saturday, May 28, 2005, at the Redstone Health Care Facility with her family at her side. She was born in Highgate, Vt. on Dec. 24, 1919, the daughter of the late Henry C. and Laura (Smith) Little. She was married to Morestino R. Napoli, "Rocky, " who predeceased her on April 29, 1970.

Marjorie was a 1937 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and a 1941 graduate of the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing. She retired in 1993 after 53 years as a nurse. Marjorie proudly served her country during World War II as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, St. Albans Garden Club, Milton Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Captain Jedediah Hyde Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, President of the St. Albans Investment, Inc. the Swanton and St. Albans Historical Societies, the Vermont Historical Society and was Proprietor of the Napoli Home in Sheldon and the former Napoli Variety Store in St. Albans. She enjoyed genealogy, history and gardening.

Survivors include her son, John P. Napoli and his wife, Lorraine, of Cape Coral, Fla.; her three daughters: Dorothy Bolduc and her husband, John, of St. Albans, Mary Grant and her husband, Douglas, of Fairfield and Rose Napoli of Grand Isle; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, "Rocky, " she was predeceased by an infant son, James Morris Napoli; a brother, Donald Little; and two sisters, Dorothy Dowhan and Ruth Hojaboom.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2005, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Church Street with the Reverend Herman Benjamin officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Greenwood Cemetery. Marjorie's family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

NANCY L. CADY
ST. ALBANS - Nancy L. Cady, 67, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Haven Health Center in St. Albans Town.

She was born on Aug. 11, 1937, in Wheeling, W.V., the daughter of Clarence Alfred and Margaret Katherine (Johnson) Lowe.

Nancy grew up in Washington D. C. after attending Bates College she worked as a librarian for many years. Nancy was a loving and wonderful wife and mother. Nancy always maintained a happy household and took great pride in her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard C. Cady.

Nancy is survived by her son, Richard L. Cady, his wife Mariah D Cady, a grandson Richard D. Cady; as well as her daughter, Carol Lee Cady Johnson.

A private ceremony well be held.

Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes is in charge of arrangements.

JEANETTE (NEWTON) RUSSELL
SOUTH BURLINGTON - A graveside service for Jean, who died Jan. 25, 2005, will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2005, at 1 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery, Essex Junction. Prayers will be offered by Pastor Emeritus Max Reader.

Arrangements are in care of Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home.

ROLLAND L. PLOOF
MONTGOMERY CENTER - Rolland L. Ploof, age 88, passed away Friday, May 27, 2005, at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford.

He was born March 5, 1917, in St. Armand, Quebec, Canada, the son of the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Touchette) Ploof.
He was a resident of Montgomery Center most of his life and was a member of St. Isidores Catholic Church. He was employed as a truck driver and Master Mechanic for GAF asbestos mines in Lowell for 20 years retiring in 1972. He loved fishing, sports, and especially baseball. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his children: Myrna Blodgett and her husband Owen of So. Hadley, Mass., Stanley Ploof and his wife Beverly of Southampton, Mass., Terry Larose and her husband Alan of DeLand, Fla., and Sharon Plouff and her husband Steven of Franklin; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Malberge Mercy of Enosburg Falls, Reina Mayotte of Chicopee, Mass., and Alberta Lumbra of Montgomery Center; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Martha (Lumbra) Ploof, they were married on June 22, 1936; three sisters: Agnes Gauthier, Blanche Prive, and Floris Lumbra; and one brother, Roger Ploof.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at 11 a.m. at St. Isidores Catholic Church in Montgomery Center. Interment will follow in St. Isidores Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Monday evening from 7 to 9 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

PERSIS E. (YATES) BOYESEN
OGDENSBURG, N.Y. / FAIRFIELD, Vt. - Persis E. (Yates) Boyesen died Sunday, May 22, 2005, in St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Ogdensburg, N.Y.

Persis was born June 26, 1923, in St. Albans, Vt., daughter of Reginald and Hortense (Girard) Yates. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1941 and from the University of Vermont in 1945 with a bachelor’s degree in education and received 15 credits towards her master’s degree in education from SUNY Potsdam.

She married Lt. James W. Boyesen AAF, on Dec. 29, 1945. James predeceased her on April 29, 1994.

She is survived by three daughters, Kristin Boyesen of Bedford, Ohio, Leah Boyesen, and Sonia and her husband Charles Springer of Johnson City, N.Y.; one son, Brion and his wife Denise Boyesen of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, Cara Gentry, Philip and Stephen Berringer, and Jay Boulia; and two brothers, Reginald and his wife Claire Yates of Winooski, and Jerry and his wife Mary Yates of Fairfield.

In addition to her parents and husband, Persis was predeceased by an infant sister, Frances Theresa, and a brother, Richard Yates.

Funeral services were held May 25, 2005, in Ogdensburg with burial on May 27, 2005, in Dexter, N.Y.

WILFRED J. "BOB" SHEPARD
ENOSBURG FALLS - Wilfred J. "Bob" Shepard, 96, passed away early Thursday, May 26, 2005, at the Brownway Residence in Enosburg following a brief illness. He was born in St. Albans March 23, 1909, the son of the late Paul and Rose (Beaudry) Shepard. Bob was married to the former Doris Billings, who predeceased him on July 4, 1988.

Bob was owner of Touchette and Shepard Plumbing Company. He was a third degree and life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 297 since 1944, a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, served on the Board of Directors and was a Past President of the Champlain Country Club and for several years was a school bus driver for the St. Albans City School.

Survivors include his sons: Gerald D. Shepard and his wife, Joan of East Highgate, Gary H. Shepard and his wife, Donna, of Leesburg, Fla..; three granddaughters: Vicki Shepard, Colleen Shepard and Laurie Shepard Merino and her husband, Juan Carlos Merino Martin; and two great-grandchildren, Ana and Alex.

A Vigil Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2005, at 7 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main St., St. Albans with the Reverend Leonidas B. Laroche, Pastor of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in the Shepard family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Bob's family will receive friends on Saturday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

FREDERICK EUGENE PAULETTE
NORTH HYDE PARK / STOWE - Frederick Eugene Paulette, age 58, died unexpectedly while on a business trip in Ephrata, Pa., on Friday, May 20, 2005. He was born in Newport, Vt., on Jan. 11, 1947, the son of Marjorie R. (Goslette) and Harry C. Paulette.

Fred graduated from Bellows Free Academy High School in St. Albans in 1965. He became an accomplished woodworker, learning his trade from his father. In 1985 Fred opened his own business called Stowe Antiques and in 1999 expanded his business by starting Gihon Valley Furniture in North Hyde Park, Vt.

Fred served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion Donald McMahon Post 64. He was a very active member of the Fraternal Order of Masons Mystic Lodge 56, Scottich Rite Valley of Montpelier and the Shrine.

Fred loved his hobby which was car restoration and also participated in Antique Car Shows and Street Rod Events. He was also an avid fisherman.

Fred is survived by his mother, Marge Paulette of St. Albans; by his two cousins, Gene Gosslette and Cheryl Persitz; and by his companion, Lynn Little and her children Beth, Erica, and Trevor of North Hyde Park. He was predeceased by his father, Harry, and his sisters, Judy and Sandy.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at the Stowe Community Church. An inurnment will take place at a later date in the North Hyde Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Central Vermont Humane Society.

Stafford Funeral Home in Stowe is in charge of local arrangements.
