JUDY E. BENJAMIN-HOFFMANN
ALBURG / BURLINGTON - Judy E. Hoffmann, 57, a life long resident of the Alburg community, passed away early Sunday morning, June 19, 2005, after a long and courageous battle with cancer in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

Judy was born in St. Albans on July 23, 1947, the daughter of Fernand and Evelyn (Ducharme) Benjamin. Judy graduated from Alburg High School, Class of 1966.

Judy was bus driver with Mountain Transit, Inc. and did bartending for many years. Judy was very active with the Alburg Springs Fire District 1 and served as a board member for several years. She served a very active role in the recent water system expansion project. She was also a longtime member of St. Amadeus Church in Alburg.

Besides her mother, Evelyn, of Alburg, she leaves her two daughters: Stacey Hoffmann of St. Albans and Randi Hoffmann of Alburg; and sisters: Lynn Martin of Alburg, Penny Benjamin and her companion, Floyd Knapp, of Alburg. She leaves two grandchildren, Sabrina Short and Travis Hill Jr.; as well as a niece, Tamara Martin, and a nephew, Nicholas Benjamin.

Judy was predeceased by her father, Fernand in 1992; and two brothers, Larry in 1974 and David in 2003.

In keeping with Judy’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Ezra A. Pickup of Alburg will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hoffman family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery in Alburg,

Gifts in Judy’s memory may be made to the Alburg Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Dept. 4, Firehouse Rd., Alburg, Vt. 05440, or to the American Cancer Society, 11 Loomis Street, Montpelier, Vt. 05602-3021.

GUY A. SWEET
W. ENOSBURG - Guy Alton Sweet, 85, formerly of Jeffersonville and more recently of Enosburg Falls, died peacefully Thursday, June 16, 2005, at Haven Health Center in St. Albans.

He was born June 22, 1919, in Swanton, son of the late Earl H. and Ethel (Barker) Sweet. He graduated from Cambridge High School, class of 1936. He was married to the former Margaret Edwards on Jan. 29, 1966. Guy was a lifelong farmer and logger. He enjoyed Vermont at its finest, looking forward to spring sugaring every year, fishing in the summer and deer hunting in the winter. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Guy is survived by his wife, Margaret Lanphear Edwards Sweet; his step-sons, Greg Edwards and his wife Phyllis of Jeffersonville, John Edwards and his wife Brenda of Fletcher; his step-grandchildren: Stacey Alden and her husband Howard, Douglas Edwards, Adam Edwards and his friend Molly Spear, Eric Edwards, Jessica Edwards, Nathan Edwards; his step-great grandchildren, Nicholas Alden and Caitlyn Alden; his brothers and sisters: Arlan Sweet, Ray Sweet and his wife Esther, Arlie Williamson and her husband Marvin. He was also predeceased by his brother, Donald Sweet; his sister, Shirley Sweet Dunham Mason; his sisters-in-law, Hazel Sweet and Irma Sweet; his brothers-in-law, Neil Nolan, Earle Dunham, and Merton Mason; and his step-granddaughter, Erin Margaret Sweet.

The family wishes to thank David and Ina Vaughan for their acts of kindness and compassion.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at 11 a.m. in The Second Congregational Church in Jeffersonville. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon in The Second Congregational Church with Reverend Peggy Tooker officiating. Inurnment will follow in the family lot in Binghamville Cemetery in Fletcher.

Memorial contributions may be made in Guy’s memory to the American Parkinson Disease Association, Vermont Chapter, PO Box 788, Milton, Vt. 05468.

GERALDINE JOYCE BUSHEY
SWANTON / ST. ALBANS CITY - Geraldine Joyce Bushey, 79, a longtime Swanton resident, and for the past 12 years residing at The Four Winds Apartments on North Elm Street in St. Albans City, died Friday morning, June 17, 2005, in the Northwestern Medical Center.

Born in Fairfield on Sept. 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Fannie (Kittell) Emch. She attended Fairfield schools and was married to Robert R. Bushey for 51 years before he predeceased her on May 16, 2003.

In addition to her duties as a homemaker and mother, Gerri, along with her husband, owned and operated the Bushey Turkey Farm on Route 7 in Swanton for nearly 30 years. She was also associated for 14 years with Kinney Drugs of St. Albans, retiring in 1987. Earlier she had also worked as a nurse’s aide for the former Verdelle Village Extended Care Facility in St. Albans Town. Gerri was a longtime devoted member of the Swanton Memorial United Methodist Church and taught in the Sunday School Program.

She leaves two sons, Roger L. Bushey of Swanton and his friend Nancy Gaboriault of St. Albans, and Brent L. Bushey and his wife Connie of Huntington; two beloved granddaughters, Lindsey F. Bushey and Cara L. Bushey, both of Highgate, and a grandson, Eric Bushey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one great-granddaughter, Evony Bushey of Highgate; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband Robert she was predeceased by two sons, Wayne R. Bushey in August of 1989 and Scott L. Bushey in June of 2003. Also three brothers, Cecil, Kenneth and Winthrop Emch and a sister Adeline McCleoud.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bushey family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Gerri’s memory may be made to the, Franklin Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans 05478.

ANNA L. THABAULT
SMYRNA, Ga. / SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - Anna L. Thabault died on June 13, 2005, at home quietly with family at her side after a relapse of breast cancer.

She is survived by her two sons, Charles of Smyrna, Ga. and Michael of Northfield, Mass., and their families. Anna is also survived by her two sisters, Evelyn Boucher and Theresa Boulet, both of Swanton, Vt., and her brothers, Roger Jette of Dayton, Ohio and George Jette of Burlington, Vt.

Anna was born on Dec. 13, 1921, in Swanton, of her parents Oswald and Adelina (Trahan) Jette. She was one of nine children. Anna graduated from St. Ann’s Academy in June of 1940 and subsequently went to work as an operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph. While with the telephone company she traveled to California in support of the war effort.

Anna married Colonel George B. Thabault of the U.S. Air Force while he was stationed in England in July of 1955. George was born and raised in Winooski. After her husband retired from military service in 1961 she and her family moved to Bend, Ore. where they owned and operated the Bend Riverside Motel. After leaving Oregon in 1972 they eventually returned to South Burlington, Vt. in 1973. They ultimately moved to Florida where they were long-time residents of Palm Bay.

Since the onset of this most recent illness Anna moved to Smyrna, Ga. to be with her son, Charles, and his wife Kristine. Anna was a devoted Catholic and mother and she will be missed by all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 20, at 11 a.m. in St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church in South Burlington. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband on Thursday, June 23, 2005, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers please contribute to the American Breast Cancer Foundation in her name.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington.

GERTRUDE LAMOTHE BRODEUR GREGOIRE
BARRE - Gertrude Lamothe Brodeur Gregoire, formerly of Winooski, died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Barre.

She was born on Nov. 14, 1910, in Pike River, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Wilfred and Clara Rock Lamothe and later moving to Georgia, Vt. in 1911.

Gertrude was married to Louis Brodeur in October 1934. In 1937 they moved to Fairfax and later to Winooski in 1965. Her husband Louis predeceased her in 1972. She later married Simeon Gregoire in 1973, who then predeceased her in 1974.

In 1998 she moved to Barre to live with her daughter Helene and her husband Perley Thomas. In 2000 she moved to Woodridge Nursing Home.

Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Helene Thomas and her husband, Perley, of Barre; her son, Albert Brodeur and his wife, Barbara, of Pennsylvania; her granddaughters, Ruth Thomas-Squire and her husband, John, of Starksboro, and Lynn Short and her husband, Randall, and great-granddaughter, Lilith, of Maryland; her grandsons, Michael Brodeur and his wife, Ellen, of Pennsylvania; and twin great-grandsons, Daniel and Nathaniel, a great-granddaughter, Kathryn, Mark Andrew Brodeur of Pennsylvania; step-daughter Mary Ann Gregoire of Sumpter, S.C..; her sister, Rita Perron of St. Albans; four brothers, Clement Lamothe of Watertown, Conn., Fred Lamothe and his wife, Marie, of Swanton, Paul Lamothe and his wife, Rita, of St. Albans, and Henry Lamothe and his wife, Rose, of St. Albans; a sister-in-law, Kay Lamothe of Michigan; a sister-in-law, Cecile Gregoire Nichols of Fairfax; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Leo, Robert, Andrew and Jean.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Winooski. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Green Mountain Chapter, P.O. Box 1139, Montpelier, Vt. 05601, or to the Woodridge Activity Fund, P.O. Box 550, Barre, Vt. 05641.

Visiting hours will be today, June 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. Winooski.

TIMOTHY HILLS BROCK
NORTH HERO - Timothy Hills Brock, 40, died of an aneurysm on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Timothy was born in Burlington on Jan. 26, 1965, the son of Henry and Lois (Miller) Brock.

Tim had worked for IBM and for Marriot Food Services at St. Michael’s College. Tim enjoyed reading, writing, watching movies and doing Searchword puzzles, as well as just being outdoors and going for walks. He was actively involved with C.I.D.E.R., Champlain Islanders Developing Essential Resources, Inc., and participating in the various programs that were offered to those that they served. He enjoyed helping others in many ways including assisting at meal sites, on special trips and helping with the C.I.D.E.R. mission of keeping people living independently and in their own homes. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sisters and brothers: Lee Brock of California, Stephen Brock and his wife, Christine, of St. Albans, Thomas Brock and his wife, Christine, of Milton, Daniel Brock and his wife, Mary, of Milton, Nancy Ballantine of St. Albans, and Sheryl Brock of Milton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and by his loving friends, with whom he shared a home, Jennifer Williams, as well as Todd and Barbara Lynch of North Hero.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Waterbury Center Cemetery.

Contributions in Tim’s memory may be made to C.I.D.E.R., P.O. Box 13, South Hero, Vt. 05486.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of the service in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.

GEORGE EDWARD DAIGNAULT, JR.
Mr. George Edward Daignault, Jr., age 75, died Wednesday morning, June 15, 2005, in the Redstone Villa following a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 10, 1929, at St. Albans Bay, son of the late George E. and Yvonne (Morin) Daignault. He married Jane Doner, May 2, 1953. Mrs. Daignault predeceased him Dec. 1, 2004. Mr. Daignault worked as a fuel deliveryman for R.L.Valley for 16 years and for S.B.Collins for 14 years retiring in 1992.

George is survived by his eight children and their spouses: Edward and Sandy Daignault of Baroda, Mich., Denise Tansey of Tallahassee, Fla., Michael and Roxanne Daignault of Merritt Island, Fla., Brien Daignault of Concord, Jeannine Daignault of St. Albans Town, James and Terri Daignault of Colchester, David and Mary Daignault of Cicero, N.Y., Army Lieutenant Margaret and Marty Mieras of Michigan; 11 grandchildren: Joseph and Monique Daignault, Daniel and Kathleen Tansey, Amanda and Renee Daignault, Felicia and Hilliary Daignault, Kristina and Ashley Daignault, and Gabriella Barrette; a brother, John Daignault and his wife, Patricia, of Merritt Island, Fla.; and a sister, Georgette Johnson of Highgate. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane; his one-year-old son, Lawrence Daignault; his four-month-old grandson, Jonathan Bonnema; and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 2 p.m. in Holy Angels Church. Interment will follow in the Daignault family lot in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Sheldon Springs. There are no visiting hours.

THOMAS FITZGERALD III
Tommy Fitzgerald will be buried on Saturday, June 18, at 1 p.m. at St. George Cemetery in Bakersfield. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. He passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2005.

ANTHONY KEITH DUPREY
ST. ALBANS CITY / SWANTON - Anthony Keith Duprey, 57, a resident of 139 South Main St. in St. Albans City and a native of the Swanton and Highgate Springs areas, died Monday morning, June 13, 2005, in the Haven Health Center in St. Albans Town.

Born at home in Highgate Springs on June 28, 1947, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Ruth (Warner) Duprey.

He attended Swanton Public Schools and for over 20 years worked at the former Champlain Cable Company in Colchester. He most recently has been associated as a groundskeeper for the Champlain Country Club in Swanton.

Tony leaves four daughters: Melody Barratt, Tina Lapan and her husband, David, Holly Therrien and her husband, David and Ruth Hazard and her husband, D.J.; and a brother, Gene Duprey and his wife, Hilda, all of Swanton; six grandchildren: Crystal Gordon, Kyle and Nathan Lapan, Samantha and Christopher Therrien and Justin Hazard; as well as several nieces, nephews and many special friends.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 16, 2005, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will officiate. Interment will follow in the Duprey family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

HOWARD ALLEN ROY JR.
INTERLACHEN, Fla. / SWANTON - Howard Allen Roy Jr., 78, of Interlachen, Fla., died at Palatka Community Medical Center, April 6, 2005. Graveside services were held on April 12, 2005, in Palatka Memorial Gardens in Palatka, Fla.

Howard was born in Swanton, Vt., the son of the late Howard A. and Olive C. Roy. He went to RPI in Troy, N.Y. and received his degree from MIT in Boston. He served several years in the Navy in the V-12 program and then in the reserve.

Howard lived in California where he worked for North American Rockwell Corporation, General Dynamics and Rohr Aircraft Corporation in engineering administration. He also owned and operated a laundromat. He moved to Florida in 1984.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The National Rifle Association of American, The American Legion and Senior Friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Malcolm E. Roy of Swanton. He is survived by two brothers, Wayne C. Roy of Lady Lake, Fla. and Reverend Ralph L. Roy of Plantville, Conn.; and a sister, Erma R. Parker of South Daytona, Fla. He has eight nieces: Naomi Serour, Elaine Welch, Barbara Varnum, Joyce Roy, Diane Glace, Judy Dunham, Kathleen and Bonnie Parker; and two nephews, Allen Roy and Raymond Roy; and several great-nieces and nephews.

ST. ALBANS - Janet K. LeDuc went to be with the Lord on Jan. 19, 2005. A Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at 11 a.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church in Highgate. Interment to follow in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery. The family welcomes friends to attend. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
