REGINALD W. HUGHES I
ST. ALBANS / FAIRFIELD - Mr. Reginald W. Hughes I, age 78, died shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center, Sunday evening, July 10, 2005, following a brief illness. He was born in Bakersfield, Sept. 14, 1926, son of the late Arthur Hughes Sr. and Myrtle (White-Ladieux) Hughes.

Reg was a dairy farmer all of his working life, having been employed on the R. L. Vallee, Soule and Howrigan farms, retiring in 1991. Reg enjoyed hunting, especially for bear, and spent many hours fishing and ice fishing.

Oct. 4, 1947, he married Mary Terry. Mrs. Hughes died Oct. 10, 2003, following 56 years of wedded life together.

They are survived by eight children: Wayne Hughes of Grand Isle, Danny and his wife, Marie Hughes of Swanton, Linda and her husband, Donald Hallock of Leesburg, Fla., Christina Hughes and her companion, William Russell of Bennington, Mary Theresa Hughes and her partner, Pam Panuchitck of Rutland, Michael Hughes and his partner, Teah Fariole of Chittendon, Reginald Hughes II, of St. Albans, Wuanita and her husband, Jacob Clogston of Swanton; 22 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Pearl Moll of Fairfield, Lawrence and his wife, Yvette Hughes of Swanton, Mitchell and his wife, Virginia Hughes of Fairfield, Phyllis and her husband, Norman Hall of Burlington, Arthur Hughes Jr. and his wife, Beverly Hughes of St. Albans, Shirley and her husband, Paul Turner of Highgate, Ruth Labelle of Bakersfield; special friends Dolly and Ronny Shappie of Grand Isle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife and parents, Reg was predeceased by his sisters, Frieda Chaplin, Ruby Broe, Elizabeth Day; and by a son, Reginald Lee Hughes.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of his family. There will be no public calling hours.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. 0. Box 1460, Williston, Vt. 05495. An online condolence book has been established for Reginald’s family at the Brady & Levesque web site: www.bnlfh.com.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

VALLIE BARKLEY
Vallie Barkley, (nee Disheau) of Glen Becker, age 53, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 22, 2005.

Vallie was the loving wife of Richard and dear mother of Adam (Jerrie Jo) of Richford, Vt. and Kimberly (Mark) Gagnon of Whitby. She was also the loving grandmother of Allison, Lacie, Tabor, Zackary, and Justin; and beloved daughter of Glendon and Beverley Disheau (nee Coulter) of Morrisburg. Vallie was dear sister of Catherine (Gerry) Brayton of Morrisburg, Douglas (Marge) of Beamsville, Shawn (Martha) of Cardinal, and Tessa (Scott) Robinson of Morrisburg. Predeceased by an infant daughter. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends called at the Marsden & McLaughlin Funeral Home, Williamsburg Ontario, on Sunday, July 24. Funeral service was held at the Funeral Home on Monday, July 25, at 11 a.m. Interment was at New Union Cemetery, Williamsburg.

Donations to Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre or the Ottawa Heart Institute would be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

PATRICIA ANN COLLINS
WINOOSKI - Patricia Ann Collins, 76, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Pat was born on Aug. 18, 1928, the daughter of Robert and Dorothy (Livermore) Parrott.

She is survived by her son, Tom Collins of Burlington; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; her brother, Francis Parrott and his wife Shirley of Milton; sister, Judith Parrott of Texas; and several nieces and nephews, including Sharon Boudreau and her husband Ron of Milton. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Collins in 1989; son, Dana Collins in 2003; her brother, Larry Parrott and sister Peggy (Parrot) Phillips.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will follow in the South Hero Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

LOUIS J. HILL
SOUTH BURLINGTON / ENOSBURG - Louis J. Hill, Aspen Drive, South Burlington, passed away on July 25, 2005, following an optimistic two-year battle with cancer. He was born in Enosburg Falls on Aug. 20, 1935, the son of William L. Hill and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Garrow.

Lou - or Bill, as many in Enosburg knew him - graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1953. He served for four years with the U.S. Air Force, including a tour in Korea.

In 1958 he married Gwen Nash. In addition to his wife, his daughter, Lesli, and son-in-law, Rick Blount of Williston, survive him. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy and her husband Tony Logue of Vancouver, Wash.; and by his brother, William L. Hill II and his wife Betty of Manchester, N.H.; two nephews and numerous cousins. He also leaves his sisters-in-law and their spouses: Mary and Gene Burgess, Helen Nielson, Lillian and John Knowles and Grace and Tom Perkins; brother-in-law, Ken Nash and his wife Karin. He was predeceased by his parents and an infant daughter.

During the years that his daughter Lesli was growing up, the entire family was deeply involved with Morgan Horses and with horse shows. Lou became well know as an announcer at horse shows from New England to Texas.

Lou worked for many years in the electronics industry with several different companies. His work took him and his family from New Hampshire and Vermont to New York, Texas, New Jersey and Missouri. He and Gwen returned to Enosburg Falls in 1989 where he worked for Derringer Customs Brokers as a part-time immigration inspector for several years and for the final two years before retiring as a Law Enforcement Communications Assistant (LECA) for the United States Border Patrol. He particularly enjoyed his work with Immigration and BP.

Upon his return to Enosburg, Lou became involved with the restoration of the Opera House at Enosburg Falls and was the first Opera House administrator. He also wrote, directed and produced several musical reviews to benefit the restoration. Lou also wrote a number of reminiscences of growing up in his beloved hometown of Enosburg that were published locally.

Gwen and Lou moved to Palmetto, Fla. where they lived for five years returning to Vermont in the summer of 2004. Upon their return to Vermont they became interested in “rock hounding” and gold panning, and were active members of the Burlington Gem Society and the Green Mountain Prospectors of Vermont. Lou also joined the Service Core of Retired Executives (SCORE), a group with which he enjoyed helping individuals start up or expand small businesses.

At his request Lou’s body was donated to the University of Vermont School of Medicine. A celebration of Lou’s life will be held in the fall.

Memorial gifts in his name may be made to The Friends of the Opera House at Enosburg Falls, P.O. Box 1250, Enosburg Falls, Vt. 05450, or to the Visiting Nurse Association, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446.

Lou’s family thanks Dr. Scott Luria, the FAHC Oncology Team, the nurses on Sheperdson 4 and Kim, Marian and Nancy from VNA Hospice for their care.

CHARLES ALDEN TROMBLEY
Charles Alden Trombley, 81, of Palm Harbor, Fla., died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Bayfront Medical Center, St. Petersburg, Fla. He was the husband of Edith Lee Smith Trombley.

He was a native of St. Albans, Vt., and was a son of the late Nelson and Lillian Goodwin Trombley and a member of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Arlington, Va. He was honorably discharged as a senior chief petty officer after 20 years in the Navy. He later retired as a civilian from the Department of the Navy.

Survivors include: a daughter, Joan Trombley Slaughter of Ardsley, N.Y.; a stepson, Richard C. Ross of Raleigh, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Pamela Pitchford of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren; a sister, Rose Jewett of St. Albans, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews and their children.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 7, at Johnson’s Funeral Home by the Rev. Van Firetine. Burial was in the Georgetown Cemetery with military honors.

Casket bearers were Adam Pitchford, Richard Ross, Gary Reid, Gary Smith, Gary Davis and Dale Smith.

DORIS (SHERMAN) HOWARD
MORETOWN - Doris Mae (Sherman) Howard passed away peacefully Thursday, July 21, 2005, in Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. Born in Duxbury, March 20, 1922, she was the seventh daughter of Bartlett and Gladys (Lavanway) Sherman. She attended Duxbury schools.

Doris - or Dot, as many knew her - was a hard-working and loving person. In her lifetime, she held many positions. In the earliest part of her life, she worked as a nanny and then during World War II was employed by the U.S. Rubber Co., helping to support the war effort. Later in life, she was a telephone operator and also cooked for many schools/organizations. Doris's most rewarding role was caring for her family and cooking amazing meals for them. She had many hobbies: cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting and crossword puzzles.

Doris also enjoyed a spirited round of golf with her husband. Some of her most enjoyable moments were spent bowling with her husband, brothers and friends in Morrisville and Lowell. Doris and her two brothers, Bartlett and Bob, called themselves the “Three Musketeers, ” and they enjoyed many adventures together.

Doris married Horace (Hod) Howard in Moretown on July 10, 1945. He predeceased her on April 4, 2000. She was also predeceased by two brothers and seven sisters: Roland, Howard, Marion, Greta and Genevieve, Henrietta and Barbara, and Beulah and Bernice; and a grandson, Christopher Dutil.

Doris is survived by: a stepson, Gregory Howard and his wife, Susan, of Orange Park, Fla.; two daughters, Sherry Bearden and her husband, John, of Essex, and Sandra Laferriere and her husband, Reggie, of Georgia; one son, Scott Howard and his wife, Karen, of Hebron, Conn.; 10 grandchildren: Christopher and Annie Howard, Nancy (Howard) and Steven Terlep, Tamara (Dutil) and Bryant Pless, Aaron Dutil, Jody, Aimee, and Casey Laferriere, James and Karla Laferriere, and Nichols and Ryan Howard; six great-grandchildren: Olivia and Alexander Howard, Kaylee and Alison Terlep, and Isabel and Iain Pless; one sister, Marjorie (Sherman) Driscoll of Cape Coral, Fla.; two brothers, Bartlett Sherman of Duxbury, and Robert and his wife, Lillian Sherman, of Moretown; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Sherman of Duxbury, and Helen Falvey of Naples, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Frederick Baird of Montpelier; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

We will miss her loving, giving spirit and her many idioms. We love you, Mom - Mimi!

A memorial service will be held in the South Duxbury Community Church on Saturday, July 30, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Duxbury Church, c/o Joan Berno, 773 Turner Hill Road, Moretown, Vt. 05660, or to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are in the care of Stephen C. Gregory Cremation Services, Shelburne.

QUINTEN BRENT LETOURNEAU
NOYAN, QUEBEC CANADA / ALBURG, Vt. - Quinten Brent Letourneau, age 2, the son of Brent and Jennifer (Kaiser) Letourneau, died early Saturday morning, July 23, 2005, at his home in Noyan, Quebec.

Even though Quinten died at an early age of an undiagnosed illness, he had the remarkable ability to touch the lives of everyone that came in contact with him.

In addition to his parents, Brent and Jennifer of Noyan, he leaves his brother, Jonathan Letourneau; and his maternal grandparents, Matthias and Odette Kaiser all of Noyan; paternal grandparents, Janie Letourneau of Rouses Point, N.Y. and Bruce Letourneau of Alburg; maternal great-grandparents, Paul and Madeleine Kaiser of Noyan and Christian and Odette Wolf of Switzerland; paternal great-grandparents, James (Bubby) and Beverly Irick and Elaine Letourneau, all of Alburg; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. from the Union Bible Church, Main Street, Alburg Village. The Pastor, Doctor John Kehoe will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in Bush Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.

In lieu of flowers the family request gifts in Quinten’s memory be made to the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2300 Tupper Street, Montreal, Quebec, Canada H341P3. Envelopes and Donation Cards will be available both at the church on Friday and from the family.

STEVEN H. TATRO
ORLANDO, Fla. / FRANKLIN COUNTY, Vt. - Steven H. Tatro, 56 of Orlando, Fla. and formerly of Franklin County, Vt., died unexpectedly Sunday, July 24, 2005, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born in St. Albans on Oct. 23, 1948, the son of Claude Sr. and Freda (Garrett) Tatro.

In his earlier years, Steven worked as a farm hand along side his father at several Franklin County farms. He graduated from Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans, class of 1966. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He later moved to Florida where he operated a service station with his brother and later drove a wrecker for Links Texaco. He retired in 1987 due to his health.

On Dec. 21, 1981, Steven married Susanne L. Marston in Winter Park, Fla. He was a member of the Killarney Baptist Church in Winter Park, Fla. and belonged to the NRA and the VFW Post 2093 in Orlando.

Steven was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the Pittsburg Steelers. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Freda Tatro of Orlando; his wife, Susanne L. Tatro of Orlando; three children: Matthew S. Tatro of Burlington, Vt., Pamela L. Bartlett and her husband, Tom, of Fairfax, Vt. and Melissa A. Rossetti and her husband, Raymond, of Orlando; his step-daughter, Beth L. Malone and her husband, James, of Orlando; five grandchildren: Amelia and Andrea Bartlett, Cole and Brody Rossetti and Logan Malone; two brothers, Claude “Butch” Tatro Jr. and his wife, Janice, of Perry, Fla. and Glenn Tatro of Orlando; and one nephew, Jason Tatro of Way Cross, Ga. He was predeceased by his father, Claude Tatro Sr.

There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steven’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements are by the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.

RICHARD E. SWEET SR.
SHELDON - Richard E. Sweet Sr., age 70, passed away peacefully Monday morning, July 25, 2005, at his home.

He was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Sheldon Springs, the son of the late Eugene and Irene (Domina) Sweet.

Richard was a resident of Sheldon most of his life and was employed as an electrician at the Missisquoi Pulp Mill in Sheldon for 43 years retiring in 1995. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 88 of Sheldon, VFW Robert Glidden Post of St. Albans, and the Lincoln Lodge F&AM of Enosburg Falls.

Richard was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, trapping and tying flies. He also enjoyed gambling, woodworking, gardening and Bingo. Most of all he enjoyed being with his loving family and friends at his special camp on Fairfield Pond.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan (Putnam) Sweet of Sheldon; his children and their spouses: Tina and Bobby Paradee of Sheldon, Nora and David Vanslette of Highgate Springs, David and Jan Sweet, and Richard Jr. and Karen Sweet, all of Sheldon; his grandchildren: Andrew and Tyler Sweet, Billy Paradee and his wife Kellee, and Eric Paradee, David Vanslette and his wife Nicole, and Warren Vanslette, Sara Rutanhira and her husband Tino, Shirley Snow and her husband Adam, and Jed Danyow; his great-grandchildren: Kylee and Cricket Paradee, Isaac, Isaiah and Callia Snow, Nyasha Rutanhira, Isabella, Elijah and Merritt Vanslette, and Amanda Matas; his sisters and their husbands: Norma and Carroll Boudreau, and Eleanor and Pete Levick, all of Sheldon; his sisters-in-law, Betty Putnam and close family friend Sara Allen both of Wisconsin, Elaine Putnum and her husband Clinton of Springfield, Mass.; his brother-in-law, Earl Putnam and his wife Esther of Williston; several nieces and nephews; and his special dog, Harmony.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 at the Spears Funeral Home.

CAITLIN O’HARA LUNDBORG
ENOSBURG - Caitlin O’Hara Lundborg, age 20, passed away Monday, July 25, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with her loving family at her side. Caitlin was fighting cancer for the second time in her young life, but lost this battle.

She was born Sept. 24, 1984, in Ft. Collins, Colo., the daughter of Jaye O’Hara and Richard Lundborg.

Caitlin was home schooled and also attended the Enosburg Falls Middle/High School. She was currently a student at Johnson State College majoring in Hospitality & Tourism and was participating in an internship program at Walt Disney World until she became ill. She had a great love for anything to do with Disney with her dream being to ultimately work at Disney.

She attended the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, Conn. and Camp Ta-Kum-Ta in Colchester. Her hobbies and interests were cooking, crafts, floral design and collecting stuffed animals, especially Teddy Bears.

She is survived by her parents, Jaye O’Hara and Richard Lundborg of Enosburg; one sister, Teegan Lundborg; three brothers, Bren, Michael and Zachary Lundborg, all of Enosburg; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She also had a special spot for her cat, Hailey.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, July 29, 2005, at 10 at the Richford First Baptist Church with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will follow in the Enosburgh Center Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening from 7 to 9 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

For those who wish, contributions in her memory may be made to the Caitlin Lundborg Scholarship Fund, C/O Spears Funeral Home, P.O. Box 396, Enosburg Falls, Vt. 05450. This fund is being established to help children facing serious illness themselves or within their family achieve their goal of attending post secondary education.
