MARTHA JEAN BEYOR
SWANTON - Mrs. Martha Jean Beyor, 76, a native of Berkshire and more recently a resident of Sunset Terrace Estates in Swanton, died early Wednesday morning, July 20, 2005, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City.

Born in Berkshire, Vt. on Oct. 18, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James E. “Pete” and Martha V. (Peno) Beyor. She attended Enosburg schools.

For the past 30 plus years Martha has been associated with North Country Linen of St. Albans. In earlier years she had also worked 18 years for the former Northland Hockey Stick Factory located in the Town of Richford. She was a member of the Berkshire United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women as well as the Enosburg Tyler Branch Grange.

She will be remembered for her love of playing Yhatzee and cards, especially 500 Bid and Cribbage at the former Odd Fellows Hall in Highgate Center.

Martha leaves her two daughters, Nancy Meyers and her husband, Sherman, of Bumpus Mills, Tenn. and Martha Malone of Jeffersonville; three sons: Glendon, R. “Butch” Beyor Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Bumpus Mills, Tenn., James B. Beyor Sr. and his wife, Spring, of Highgate Center, and George M. Beyor and his wife, Noreen, of East Sheldon; three sisters: Olive Belanger and her husband, Emile, of Berkshire, Shirley Barry of Johnson and Betty Kinney and her husband, Sterling, of Berkshire; 17 grandchildren: Ricky, Tammy, Sherry, Jeremy, Neil, Martha, Amanda, James Jr., Jonathon, Jennifer, Greg, Albert, Laura, Jamie, Jason, Shane and Alex; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Martha’s family would like to give very special thanks to Doctor Dennis Sanders and all his staff with special thanks to Shelly and Matty of the Vermont Cancer Medicine, St. Albans Unit for all they have done for Martha during her illness. Also special thanks to the entire staff of the Northwestern Medical Center Emergency Room for their overwhelming support, professionalism and genuine concern for their mother and grandmother during the late hours of Tuesday evening and the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 23, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Cheryl Heater, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Enosburg Falls, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bryce family lot in the Sheldon Village Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

JAMES A. HOLDEN
SOUTH BURLINGTON — James Arthur Holden, 58, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born in Burlington on March 23, 1947, son of Charlotte (Peters) Holden and the late James N. Holden.
Jim attended Hinesburg and Cambridge schools where he was active in music and sports, especially basketball. He also enjoyed baseball and watching football and all other sports. He looked forward to winters of downhill skiing and remained an avid Yankee fan. Jim was a graduate of Cambridge High School, Class of 1965. He was a valued employee of IBM, and later applied his talents as a self employed electrician, dedicating himself to high work ethics as a fine and conscientious worker. Jim will be remembered by his friends and family as an honest, kind, compassionate, and always giving person and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to give special thanks to Reverend Frederick Neu and the doctors, nurses, and staff of Fletcher Allen Health Care who offered Jim their loving care and attention.

He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Holden, of Underhill; his son, Michael Holden of Montana; three brothers, Jeffrey Holden and friend Mary of Stowe, Michael Holden of Burlington, Bradford Holden of Underhill, two aunts and several cousins, and a special friend, Tammy, of So. Burlington.

He was predeceased by his brother, Mark Holden.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 4 p.m. in the United Church of Fairfax with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the United Church of Fairfax, c/o Sally Sweet, Treasurer, 44 Sweet Slattery Rd., E. Fairfield, VT 05448.

EMMA E. L'ECUYER
ENOSBURG — Graveside services for Emma L'Ecuyer, who died in St. Albans on Jan. 18, 2005, will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg with Rev. Benedict Kiely offering committal prayers.

A reception will follow the services at the home of Emma's niece, Sharon Brigham at 12 Nason St. in St. Albans.

Arrangements are with the LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski.

MARCIA L. ROBICHAUD
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Marcia L. Robichaud, age 94, died Sunday afternoon, in the Franklin County Rehab Center. She was born in St. Albans, Nov. 15, 1910, the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (LaFlam) LaBounty. Marcia attended Yale University and was employed in nursing service in New York, in her earlier years. She married Existe Robichaud, Jan. 25, 1942. Mr. Robichaud died Nov. 5, 1961, at the age of 58.

Marcia was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church for many years. Her favorite pastime, from her childhood, until her health did not allow her to continue, was playing basketball. She also enjoyed bingo.

Her survivors include her nieces: Patricia Williamson, who was her special caregiver, from St. Albans, and Nancy Bourgeois of Derry, N. H.; several cousins; great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides her husband, Marcia was predeceased by her sister, Irma (LaBounty) Pudvah; and her brother, Wilber LaBounty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 22, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be in the Robichaud/LaBounty family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the charity of your choice.

LEONA LILLIAN ROBY BLAIS
SWANTON, Vt. / AUGUSTA, Maine - Leona Lillian Roby Blais, 94, of Augusta, Maine, passed away July 18, 2005, at Maine General Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, Gray Birch. Leona’s family wishes to thank all the supportive and skilled caregivers at Gray Birch who are truly ‘Angels’ each and every day.

Leona was born March 6, 1911, in St. Albans, Vt., the daughter of Emma Hurlbut Roby and Albert J. Roby. She resided in Swanton, where she raised her family, retired with her husband, John, to Vero Beach, Fla. and moved to Augusta, Maine, with John, to live with their daughter’s family in 1999. She currently was a resident of Maine General Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, Gray Birch in Augusta.

Leona worked as a hair stylist, owning her own business, a bookkeeper and as a homemaker. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Leona was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church, most recently at St. Mary’s Parish in Augusta. While raising her family she was an active member of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton, as well as the Nativity Parish Altar Society. During her life she was a tireless volunteer working in both community and church organizations. Leona was also an accomplished pianist.

In recent years, Leona, who became blind, kept up with current affairs through Newsweek on tape and read many ‘Talking Books’ each week. She and her husband, John, spent many hours doing crossword puzzles together before his death in February of this year.

Leona’s devoted husband of 60 years, John Blais, and her sister, Mildred Heald, of St. Albans Bay, Vt., both predeceased her.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lovaglio, and her husband Ron of Augusta, Maine, and their children, Heather Alvarez of Albuquerque, NM and Mike Lovaglio of Augusta, Maine; son, John Blais and his partner, Joyce Thornton, of San Francisco, Calif.; son, Jeffrey Blais and his wife, Margaret, and their children, Vincent and Peter of North Providence, R.I.; brother-in-law, Paul Blais and his wife, Leola, of Burlington, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. Leona also leaves behind many caring friends and the family is very grateful for all their efforts to stay in touch and visit over the miles.

At Leona’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in Swanton at a future date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton.

JANET L. (MACOMBER) FLEMING
WESTFORD - Janet Louise (Macomber) Fleming, 69, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2005, at her residence in Westford. She was born in Fairfax on July 26, 1935, daughter of the late John and Anna (Machia) Macomber.

Janet married Robert “Joe” Fleming on Jan. 16, 1954, in Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception in Burlington. Robert predeceased Janet in August of 1990. She spent her summers in Vermont and her winters in Orange City, Fla., where she leaves many friends. Janet loved playing bingo and cards with family and friends at every opportunity. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Janet will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her four sons, Donald Fleming and wife Debra of Fairfax, Ronald Fleming and wife Tammy of Milton, Michael Fleming of Westford and Wayne Fleming of Westford; her daughter, Shelly Booker and husband Kenneth of Essex; and her grandchildren: Jason, Justin, and Jesse Fleming, Debra, Heather, Jennifer, and Emily Booker. She was also predeceased by her brother, Daniel Macomber; and her four sisters: Katherine Howard, Anna Sheltra, Bertha Eustice and Elizabeth Eddy.

Visiting hours were held on Sunday, July 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the A.W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated today, July 18, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Fairfax with Reverend Francis Connors officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Luke Cemetery, Fairfax.

Memorial contributions may be made in Janet’s memory to the Vermont Lung Association, 30 Farrell St., South Burlington, Vt. 05403, or Essex Rescue, One Educational Drive, Essex Junction, Vt. 05452.

LORI ANN GRIFFIN
WATERBURY / RICHMOND - Lori Ann Griffin, 41, a long time resident of Waterbury and most recently of Richmond, died tragically in a motorcycle accident in Ripton on Friday, July 15, 2005. Born in St. Albans on Jan. 19, 1964, she was the daughter of Ronald and Margaret (Aston) Sturtevant.

Lori was a 1982 graduate of Enosburg High School and continued her education at Champlain College in Burlington, graduating with a degree in business administration in 1984. She has been employed by National Life Insurance Co. in Montpelier for the past 18 years where she was currently serving as second vice-president of National Retirement Plan Advisors.

Lori enjoyed gardening, travel, skiing and most importantly spending time with her family and friends.

Lori is survived by her brother, Michael Sturtevant and his life partner, Lorna Letourneau of Northfield; her brother-in-law, Billy Baker and treasured nephews, Jarad and Gavin of Montgomery; her auntie Rose; and cousins Wayne, Sharon, Sylvia, Sheila and Wendy of Canada; her former husband, Steve Griffin and his children, Hannah and Erik and their families of Waterbury; as well as many special friends. She also leaves her “perfect little furry man, ” Taz, who brought her so much comfort. She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved brother and sister, Richard Pudvah and Kathy Baker; and her stepfather, Hollis Pudvah.

Friends may call at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. A memorial service to honor Lori in her garden will be held at her home at 50 Durand Road in Richmond, on Thursday, July 21, at 3 p.m.

RYLE K. DOW
GEORGIA / HATHAWAY POINT - Ryle K. Dow, 83, resident of Georgia, Vt. and summer resident of St. Albans Bay, passed away peacefully at the family camp on Hathaway Point on Saturday morning, July 16, 2005. Born on Aug. 12, 1921, to Leslie W. and Marion Kennedy Dow in Waterbury, Vt., Ryle is survived by his eight children and their families. His beloved wife of 53 years, Rachel (Audy) Dow, predeceased him in 2002.

Ryle was a University of Vermont (UVM) alumnus and a veteran, having served in the China/Burma/India theatre of World War II, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion Green Mountain Post 1 and was a communicant of Holy Angels Church. The bulk of his business career was spent as General Manager of the St. Albans Cooperative Creamery, which experienced a period of phenomenal growth and success under his leadership. He retired in 1986 after 33 years of service.

Ryle was a civic leader and an expert in the field of agriculture and the dairy industry. He was called upon to advise many governmental leaders in agricultural affairs, including Senators Leahy and Jeffords, and Governors Kunin and Snelling. He was recognized for his service and accomplishments with a number of awards, among them the Aiken Vermont Agriculturalist of the Year Award, the New England Fellowship of Agricultural Adventurers Award for promotion of the New England dairy industry, the Bob Davison Award from the UVM Council, an award from the Vermont Commissioner of Agriculture for Exemplary Service to Vermont Agriculture, and Outstanding Alumnus Award from the UVM College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He was honored with a lifetime membership to the National Milk Federation Cooperatives in Washington, D.C., and he took pride in having been instrumental in the development of the Northeast Dairy Compact. Locally, he served on the St. Albans Planning Commission, the Board of Trustees of Kerbs Memorial Hospital, and the committee to construct the St. Albans Elementary School. He was an avid supporter of UVM Catamount Hockey.

Ryle is survived by a daughter, Cindy Martell, and her children, Julia Tabor and Paul Martell, of Georgia; a daughter and her husband, Deborah and Stephen Britton of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; a daughter and her husband, Kareen and Keith Wortman, and their children, Kevin and Kris, of Westford, Mass.; a daughter and her husband, Pat and Doug Lawrence, and their daughter, Elizabeth, of Randolph, Vt.; a daughter and her husband, Christine and Scott Anderson, and their children, Kyra Marie and Lia Grace, of Lousiville, Ky.; a son and his wife, Galen and Pam Dow, and their children, Christian and Brittany Dow and Paige and Kyla Driver, of South Burlington, Vt.; a daughter and her husband, Alita and Doug Phelps, and their daughter, Tracey; and a son and his wife, Rich and Karen Dow, and their children, Haley, Maya, Jacob and Ryley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, in Holy Angels Church followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday evening, July 19, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Franklin County Home Health Agency's Hospice Program, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

VICTORIA ANN. (FREGEAU) JERRY
DERBY, Conn. - Victoria Ann (Fregeau) Jerry, age 53, died unexpectedly Friday, July 15, 2005, at her home in Derby, Conn.

She was born in St. Albans on July 26, 1950, daughter of the late Roland (1975) and Dorothy Lewis Fregeau (1990). Victoria graduated in 1969 from Swanton High School in Swanton. She has lived in Connecticut and worked for the past 30 plus years at W.E. Bassett Company in Shelton, Conn.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Jerry and his wife, Lori, of Shelton, Conn. She will be greatly missed by her companion, Mike Glovna of Shelton, Conn. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Provost and companion Roger Soutiere of Milton, Vt.; and brothers, Richard and Cheryl Fregeau of Highgate, and Randall Fregeau and companion Tammy Langlois of Sheldon; nephews Todd Loomis and Ronald Fregeau; nieces Michelle, Christine, Kathrine, Amanda, and Kaitlin Fregeau; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Some of Vicki’s great passions in life were snapping lots of pictures, mastering the computer, attending the races, fishing with her buddy, and her collections of beanie babies and angels. She loved to laugh and was noted for always helping other people. She was a fun loving person who was a great friend with a generous heart of gold who cherished her friends and family and will be missed greatly by her many friends and family. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church.

Vicki’s funeral left the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, Derby, Conn. this morning at 8:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Her burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.

The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church, 212 Elizabeth St., Derby, Conn. 06418.

GLADYS D. LUMBRA
EAST FRANKLIN - Gladys D. Lumbra, age 91, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005, at her home at the Franklin Carriage House with her loving family at her side.

She was born Nov. 17, 1913, in Montgomery Center, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lydia (Martin) Pollender.

She was a resident of Franklin since 1957 and was former resident of Richford. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Franklin, Ladies of St. Anne Society and the Catholic Daughters, both of Richford. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 12 of Richford. While living in Richford she was a Girl Scout Leader.
Gladys enjoyed crafts, hooking rugs, crocheting and making afghans for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She devoted her life to her family and she will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Marilyn and Kenneth Johnson of East Franklin; four grandchildren: Vanka Menard and her husband Donald, Lorna Johnson, Kenneth Johnson Jr. and his wife Faith, and Mark Johnson; her great-grandchildren: Nicole (Menard) Tatro and her husband Dave, Krista Menard and her friend Lucas Tatro, Amanda Menard and her friend Jason Giroux, Cole and Devin Johnson, and Jeremiah, Kyle and Eric Johnson; one great-great-grandson, Owen Tatro; one brother, Wilfred “Joe” Pollender of Burlington; two sisters and their husbands, Eloise and Robert “Bud” Demar of Enosburg Falls, and Reba and David Ryea of Richford; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Albert L. Lumbra on Jan. 13, 1973; three brothers, Ernest, Freeman and Frederick Pollender; five sisters, Louise Owens, Hilda Chaplin, Glendora Birch, Jessie Young, Rita Wetherby; and one nephew, Benny Lumbra.
Funeral services were held today, July 18, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford with Rev. Bernard Bechard officiating. Interment was to follow in the Montgomery Village Cemetery.
A time of visitation was held at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

WENDELL P. BRIGHAM
BETHEL, Vt. - Wendell P. Brigham, 94, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at the Mayo Nursing Home in Northfield. He was born March 17, 1911, in Norwich, the son of Frederick L. and Edith (Phillips) Brigham.

Wendell attended Norwich, Vt. and Hanover, N.H. schools. He graduated from Vermont School of Agriculture (now Vermont Technical College), Randolph Center, in 1930. Following his schooling, Wendell owned and operated the Pember Farm in Randolph Center until 1947.

He married Marjorie Lamson, June 25, 1932, in Royalton. They were later divorced. Wendell worked as a self-employed building contractor until retiring in 1972. He married Marianne Dimock, March 17, 1972, in Bethel.

He loved hunting, maple sugaring, mowing his lawn, woodworking, making Adirondack chairs for his grandchildren, camping and baseball, especially the Red Sox. In earlier years, he played baseball on the Randolph Town Team. He was active in his community and had served as a lister for the Town of Bethel. His memberships included the United Church of Bethel, where he had served on the Prudential committee; he was a 75-year member of the Middle Branch Grange, the Bethel Rotary, having served as treasurer, and the S. Royalton Lodge 74 Odd Fellows, where he had served as Worthy Grand. He was also active in the Alumni Assoc. of the Vermont School of Agriculture.

He is survived by his wife, Marianne Brigham of Bethel; two daughters, Marilyn White of Montpelier and Darlene Wright of Enosburg; a son, Maurice Brigham of Bethel; a brother, Paul Brigham of Tuftonboro, N.H.; eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Albert, Lawrence and Ernest Brigham.

Memorial services will be held Monday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Bethel with Pastor Thomas Harty officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherry Hill Cemetery, Bethel. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The United Church of Bethel, P.O. Box 28, Bethel, Vt. 05032.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home, Randolph.
