MILDRED ELIZABETH COLEMAN
SWANTON - The Burial Office and Holy Eucharist were celebrated Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at 2 p.m. from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. The Venerable J. Wallace Sparling was the celebrant and homilist. Sylvia Garrison served as Chalice Bearer. Music was provided by soloist, Rose Bacon accompanied by organist, Armand Messier.

The First Lesson from “The Wisdom of Solomon” was proclaimed by family friend Katherine Winchester and The Second Lesson from “The Letter of Paul to the Romans” by granddaughter Kelly Merrill.

The Oblation Bearers were great-granddaughters Alexis and Kathleen Coleman and Mikayla Merrill.

Among the many delegations in attendance were representatives from IBM, Haven Health Care Center, the United States Postal Service, Mary S. Babcock and Swanton Central Schools, Swanton Lumber, Porter’s Bike Shop, Northwestern Medical Center Emergency Department, Swanton High School Class of 1940, Staff from the former Cornerstone Restaurant, Swanton Town and Village Offices, J & C Variety Discount, Barrette’s Ford Service, Benevolent, Protective Order of Elks St. Albans Lodge 1566, The Episcopal Diocese of Vermont and the parish communities of Holt Trinity and Nativity.

Interment followed in the Dixon / Coleman family lot in Riverside Cemetery with Father Sparling reading the committal prayers.

The bearers were grandsons Christopher and Seth Coleman. Following the Prayers of Committal a bereavement luncheon was served fro family and friends in the Holy Trinity Fellowship Hall hosted by the Ladies of Holy Trinity.

It should also be noted that Millie was also predeceased by a sister, Luella Barkyoumb and her husband, Kenneth.

MARION E. TINKER
FLETCHER - Marion Ethel Tinker, age 82, passed away on Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans.

She was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Bakersfield, daughter of the late George and Jacqueline (Cox) Field. She was a graduate of the Johnson Normal School, class of 1942 and later married Reginald Tinker in Fairfax on Aug. 25, 1945.

Upon graduation from college, Marion started her teaching career in the Fletcher Rural Schools retiring in 1981 from The Fletcher Elementary School where she had been a dedicated teacher for many years. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Reginald Tinker, of Fletcher; her son, Gary Tinker and wife, Sharon, of Fletcher; her son, Craig Tinker and wife, Karen, of Fletcher; four grandsons: Jason Tinker and his wife, Jennifer, Jeffrey Tinker and Heather Davis, Jeremy Tinker and Amy Brosseau, and Alex Tinker; three great-grandchildren: Lydia Tinker, Heidi Tinker and Owen Davis-Tinker; two nieces: Peggy Machia and husband, Richard, and Janet Locke and husband, Chuck; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Gerald Field and Roy Field.

Their will be no public visiting hours. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Binghamville United Church, Fletcher, with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Binghamville Cemetery.

DOROTHY MURIEL PROUTY
ST. ALBANS / GEORGIA - Dorothy Muriel Prouty, 91, a longtime area resident, passed away early Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at the Haven Health Care Facility. She was born in Sutton, Quebec, on Sept. 23, 1913, the daughter of the late Robert and Grace (Dudley) Wilson.

Dorothy was a member of the Georgia Plain Baptist Church. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, crocheting and working in her flower gardens.

Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Habecker and her husband, Barry of Milton; her grandson, Randy Habecker and his wife, Mary of Georgia; two great-grandchildren, Tabitha and Garrett Habecker; her great-great-grandson, Cayden Tucker; her sister, Glenna Golden of Wallaceburg, Ontario; a special niece, Patricia Gonyeau; two-half brothers, Ronald Wilson of Michigan and Arnold Wilson of Cowansville, Quebec; a special friend, Lorinda Michaud of Milton and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Donald Tatro on Jan. 20, 1966; and her second husband, Henry Prouty on Oct. 4, 1988; her two grandsons, Robert and Ricky Habecker; her sister, Gladys Gonyeau; and her two brothers, Norman and Douglas Wilson.

A special thanks to the staff at Haven Health Care Facility for the tender loving care that Dorothy received during her stay.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Georgia Plain Baptist Church on Stone Bridge Road with the Reverend Charles Kuthe officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in St. Anthony Cemetery in Sheldon. Dorothy's family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St. Messages on condolence are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com.

CLEON A. GILLILAN
FLETCHER - Cleon Archie Gillilan, age 83 and a life long resident of Fletcher, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, following a tragic accident in his beloved sugar woods.

He was born Aug. 11, 1922, in Fletcher, son of the late George and Effie (Burdick) Gillilan. He attended Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax and later married the former Meredith Machia in Milton on Dec. 23, 1950.

Cleon was a nationally recognized award winning sugar maker. As a young man he started working in his family’s sugarhouse built in the early 1900’s and still operating today producing high quality maple syrup for over four generations. He was committed to his work, producing premium maple syrup under the Gillilan Family Maple name. He was the recipient of many Blue Ribbon awards and the prestigious recipient of numerous Best of Show Awards for both national and local maple syrup contests including The North American Maple Syrup Council, Vermont Maple Festival, Franklin County Field Days, Vermont MapleRama, Champlain Valley Fair and The Vermont State Fair in Rutland.

Cleon was a dedicated employee of the Leader Evaporator Company of St. Albans where he had the proud pleasure to work for over 22 years with his son Bruce. Having taught all of his grandchildren the art of rummy, it was impossible to miss the tallied score sheets on their kitchen table few revealing the rare wins over grandpa. His answer to the question “Grandpa, wanna play cards?” was always a loving yes. He was a wonderful dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all of those who had the true pleasure to know and love him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Meredith (Machia) Gillilan of Fletcher; his daughter, Pamela Perkins and husband Bob of Amherst, N.Y.; his son, Bruce Gillilan and wife, Mary Jo of Fletcher; a sister, Marion Spaulding of Fletcher; eight grandchildren: Jamie Cota, Stephanie Kirk & husband Brian, Rob Perkins and wife, Mana’o, Jennifer Perkins, Bradley Gillilan and wife Carey, Brett Gillilan, Bryan Gillilan, Brandy Gillilan; two great-grandchildren: Megan Kirk and Gavin Cleon Gillilan; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his four brothers: Earl, Roy, David and Walter; and his sister, Ethel Snide.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home Fairfax Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Binghamville United Church, Fletcher, with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Binghamville Cemetery.

MILDRED ELIZABETH ‘MILLIE’ COLEMAN
SWANTON - Mildred “Millie” Coleman, 83, a longtime resident of Spring Street in Swanton Village died late Tuesday evening, Aug. 23, 2005, at the Haven Health Care Center in St. Albans Town.

Born in Swanton on Nov. 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Lillian (Hatch) Aylward. She was a graduate of the former Swanton High School and in 1941 was married to Gordon R. “Pudgie” Coleman who predeceased her on July 27, 1999.

Millie was associated for several years with the former Union Carbide Corporation in St. Albans Town and was a very active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church serving both as an Acolyte member of the church Vestry. She will be remembered by the parish for her beautiful hand made Christmas Nativity Scene, which she donated to the church several years ago. She was also a member of the St. Albans Historical Society and an avid Bingo player.

Millie leaves three sons: Douglas L. Coleman and his wife, Beverly, Francis Coleman and Timothy Coleman, all of Swanton; a brother, Edward Dixon and his wife, Irene of West Swanton; grandchildren: Laurie Cochran, Edward and Beth Coleman, Kelly Coleman-Merrill and husband, Todd and Chris, Seth, Betsy and Diana Coleman; great-grandchildren: Kathleen and Alexis Coleman, William and Carolyn Cochran, and Mikayla and Matthew Merrill and Bailey and Patience Coleman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Frederick and Terry Coleman of St. Albans, Madeline Coleman of Florida, Shirley Petschah-Moore of Oklahoma, Geraldine Mina of Barefoot, Florida, Loretta Magnan of Montpelier, Theresa and Georgette Aylward both of Alburg; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Camilla Coleman; her brothers: Arthur, Stanley and Clinton Aylward; a sister and brother-in-law, Constance and Peter Petraalo; and brothers-in-law, William and Ronald Coleman and Lee Magnan.

The Burial Office and Holy Eucharist will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at 2 p m from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Grand Avenue, Swanton Village. The Venerable Wallace Sparling will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Dixon-Coleman family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Saturday from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m.

Gifts in Millie’s memory may be made to the Haven Health Center-Hospice Program, Sheldon Road, St. Albans, Vt. 05478; or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter, P.O. Box 1139, Montpelier 05601.

JERMAINE MILES WIMBLE
WINOOSKI - Jermaine Miles Wimble, 32, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at his home.

Jermaine was born in Burlington on April 1, 1973, the son of Robert and Judith (Bevins) Wimble.

He was presently employed at Stop and Go in Essex.

Jermaine is survived by his son, Robert Michael Wimble; by his parents, Robert and Judith Wimble of Georgia; his brothers and sister, Lonnie Wimble and his wife, Terri of Williston, Sabrina Ruel and her husband, Gary of Rochester, N.H., and Jason Wimble of Newport, Vt.; and by several uncles and aunts.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service at this time. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements were by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

WAYNE H. BENOIT
ST. ALBANS - Mr. Wayne H. Benoit, age 77, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 23, 2005, in the Northwestern Medical Center. Wayne was born in St. Albans, May 4, 1928, son of the late Austin and Priscilla (Cota) Benoit.

He graduated from Bellows Free Academy, St. Michael’s College and attended St. Francis Seminary in Loretto, Pa. Prior to college he served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. Wayne was an English teacher at Bellows Free Academy all of his working life. He was a former member of the American Legion and lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church.

He is survived by hi sister, E. Alice Rooney of Hyde Park; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sisters: Lenora Burnell, Lucille Kelley, Barbara Benoit, Doris Benoit, Osilda Hemond, Dorith McSweeney; brothers: Kenneth, Moniford, Maynard, Burton, Donald and Alton Benoit.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 9 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Father Leonidas Laroche, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, officiated. Following Prayers of Committal by Father Laroche, interment was in the Benoit family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider masses or the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

GEORGE A. TOUGAS
MILTON - George A. Tougas, 75, died peacefully Monday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2005, at the Haven House Health Care in St. Albans, with his wife, Rejeanne, by his side.

George was born on Oct. 13, 1929, in Essex Center, the son of A.J. and Rita (Cote) Tougas.

He married Rejeanne Fontaine on May 25, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cambridge.

During his senior year of high school, he joined the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.

He was very proud of receiving his high school diploma from the Essex Junction Educational Center in October of 2004.

He was employed by Degroot Contracting, W.H. Scott Rigging, Quinn Freight Lines, which was formerly Marcel’s Motor Express, and for St. Michael’s College. George was also a member of the American Legion.

A very gentle, patient and organized man, he is survived by his wife, Rejeanne of Milton; his daughters: Francine Tougas of Milton, Gisele Tougas-Palin and her husband, Jeff, and their children, Renee and Rachel of Huntington, Denise Hendrix and her husband, Lance of Huntsville, Ala., and their sons, Blake and Alex; by his sister, Muguette LaMountain of Burlington; sister-in-law, Marguerite Blanchard and her husband, Walter of Winooski; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Jean-Claude and Denise Duranleau of Canada, Norm and Thelma Fontaine of Rutland, Andre and Rose Fontaine of Williston, Gerard and Cecile Fontaine of Williston and Peggy Fontaine of Milton; as well as by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. George is also survived by special family friend, Erica Marks of Milton.

He was predeceased by a brother, Ray Tougas; and his sister, Suzanne Rathe and her husband, Louis; his brothers-in-law, Ray Fontaine and Walt LaMountain

George’s family would like to give special thanks to Drs. Levine, Trotter, and Greenblatt, the staff at Haven Health Care and the Northwestern Dialysis Unit as well as all the Health Care providers that have helped George for the past 40 years, and the members of C.I.D.E.R. for their transportation assistance.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Milton.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the VNA, Home Care Program, 1110 Prim Rd., Colchester, Vt. 05446, or the Vermont Cancer Center, 1 South Prospect St., Burlington, Vt. 05401.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
