HELEN HEWITT HARRINGTON
Helen Hewitt Harrington, 75, of Sugar Land, Texas, died Thursday July 28, at the Triumph Hospital Southwest.

She was born in St. Albans, Vt. on Dec. 31, 1929, the daughter of George and Cora Steen Hewitt. She was a long time resident of the Burlington, Vt. area.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert H. Harrington, and is survived by her son, Tim R. Harrington and wife, Jacki; her granddaughter, Lauren, of Katy, Texas; her five sisters: Margaret Safford of Fairfield, Vt., Shirley O’Lena of St. Albans, Vt., Eunice Church of Sarasota, Fla., Carolyn McEwen of St. Albans, Vt. and Judy Marshasault of Alpena, MI; one brother, George Hewitt of Pepperell, Mass.; her sister-in-law, Jean Harrington of Burlington, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. Her main interest in life was her family and friends.

The family has requested that memorials be given to The University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486, or the American Cancer Society, ATTN: Web, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.

ANN ASHLINE
Mrs. Ann Ashline of Beaver Dam Trail, Rocky Point, N.C., and formerly of St. Albans, Vt., died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born on July 13, 1937, the daughter of the late Harlie and Nedra Bellows of St. Albans. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ashline, in March of 1998.

Surviving are her children: Gary and wife, Diane of Burgaw, N.C., James of Rocky Point, N.C., Brian and wife, Pat, both of Rocky Point, N.C., Kevin and wife, Diane of Leland, N.C., Julie and husband, Eric, also of Rocky Point, N.C. and Shelley of Elk City, Okla.; 13 grandchildren: Chad and wife Beth, Brad and wife Kelly, Greg Noel, Elizabeth, Crystal, Jason, Whitnee, Amanda, Megan, Michelle, Justin and Michael; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha and husband, Roger; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service Oleander Chapel in North Carolina by Pastor Henry Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Chad, Brad, Greg and Jason Ashline, Steven and Christopher Guertin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Ann Ashline Memorial Fund, 2217 Mt. Misery Road, Leland, N.C. 28451.

MARK RICHARD STENTA
SWANTON, Vt. / SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Mark Richard Stenta, 68, died late Sunday evening, July 31, 2005, at The Haven Health Care Center in St. Albans Town. A native and lifelong resident of Springfield, Mass., Mark moved to the home of his daughter Lisa in May of this year to be cared for during his illness.

Born in Springfield, Mass. on Nov. 1, 1936, he was the son of the late Mark Charles and Selma Ruth (Greene) Stenta. He attended school in Springfield and was married on June 21, 1958, to the former Lillian Gagne who predeceased him, July 7, 2002.

For many years Mark worked in sales for Used Cars Unlimited and also for Eastern States Exposition both in Springfield. He loved cars and motorcycles and was an avid Red Sox fan.

Mark leaves four children: Lisa Stenta and her companion, Roland Gagne of Swanton, Mark Stenta and his wife, Cindy of Swanton, Michael Stenta and his companion, Marci Berg of West Swanton, and Laurie Lee and her husband, Ron of Stafford, Va.; grandchildren: Melissa Plouffe, Timmy and Jessica Westover, Emily, Mark Jr., Melina and Brandon Stenta, Amber, Hanna and Cassandra Stenta, Peter Bessette, Nicole Porter, Isaac, Stevie, Veronica and Daniel Lee; close friend and associate, Charlie Thans and family of Springfield, Mass.; as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a longtime friend and companion, Mary Jones of Springfield, Mass.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at 2 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Leonidas B. Laroche, pastor of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Parish in St. Albans City will officiate. Interment will follow in the Stenta family lot in St. Louis Cemetery, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral.

Gifts in Mark’s memory may be made to the, American Cancer Society, 11 Loomis Street, Montpelier, Vt., 05602.

RALPH I. LAROCK
ST. ALBANS - Ralph I. LaRock, 82, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, in the Northwestern Medical Center following a long illness. He was born in St. Albans on April 26, 1923, the son of the late Daniel Henry and Sarah Ann (Duke) LaRock. On Dec. 26, 1946, in St. Luke's Church in St. Albans, he married the former Jane Corliss, who survives him.

Ralph was a 1941 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and a 1946 graduate of West Point Military Academy. In 1958, he received his master’s degree in nuclear physics from the University of Virginia. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel after 23 years during which he served in Japan and Korea. Ralph and Jane were stationed at military bases in Japan and in the South and spent their summers at St. Albans Bay and Butler Island. Following his retirement from the military, he became a program manager at NASA where he received the exceptional service medal and retired in 1979.

Ralph was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, was an excellent marksman, excelled at woodworking, and built a home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of West Virginia and a cottage on Butler Island. He was also a member of the Vermont West Point Society. In June of this year, Ralph and Jane moved from Beaufort, S.C. to St. Albans.

Besides his wife of 59 years, Jane of St. Albans, he is survived by a son, Ralph Corliss LaRock of Leesburg, Va.; a daughter, Elizabeth LaRock Kantner of Houston, Texas; four granddaughters: Danielle and Alexandra LaRock and Allison and Evelyn Kantner; a niece, Jeannette Hermann Dixon and her husband, Gerald of Fort Myers, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Allen B. Corliss of St. Albans; a sister-in-law, Marmete Hayes of Burlington; an aunt, Elizabeth Soule of Fairfield; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Stephen Bruce LaRock on Nov. 29, 2002; and a half sister, Gladys Hermann.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Zsoldos and the staff in the Intensive Care Unit at Northwestern Medical Center for the exceptional care given to Ralph during his final illness.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Dennis Hayward officiating. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Interment will be in the family lot at the East Berkshire Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 8 Bishop Street, St. Albans, Vt. 05478. The Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., is assisting the family.

KIMBERLY ROSE O’BRIEN
FLETCHER - Kimberly Rose O’Brien, age 21, daughter of Richard and Linda (Byron) O’Brien, of Fletcher, passed away Friday afternoon, July 29, 2005, in the arms of her second mother, Rebecca Jacobs at her home in Richford. She was born in Burlington on July 10, 1984.

Kimberly is survived by her parents, Richard and Linda (Byron) O’Brien of Fletcher; her sister, Kelly; her brother, John; maternal grandmother, Claire Byron of Montreal; paternal grandparents, William O’Brien Sr. and wife, Lorraine of Essex Junction; aunts and uncles: William O’Brien Jr. and wife Barbra, Michael O’Brien and wife Lynn, all of Fletcher, Sean Breen and wife Patricia of Newport, Jim Morgan and wife Kathy of Essex Junction; all of her beloved cousins; and her extended family in Richford: Becky, Mark, Josh, Matthew and Grandma Joyce.

She was predeceased by her aunt, Kathy O’Brien; and her maternal grandfather, John Byron.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Lamoille Union High School and Richford High School, as well as her special caregivers: Ann Marie, Nancy, Gillian, and Douglass from Franklin County Home and Hospice for their friendship and all the other people way too numerous to mention. Though short, Kim’s life touched many.

There will be no public visiting hours. Services and inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in Kim’s memory may be made to the Vermont Achievement Center, 88 Park Street, Rutland, Vt. 05701.

Arrangements are by John D. Workman, of the A. W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main Street, Fairfax.

ROBERT J. KING
FLETCHER - Robert Jerome King, 89, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at his home on the Buck Hollow Road, with his loving family at his side. He was born on March 20, 1916, at the Fletcher homestead, which has been in the King family for five generations. He was the son of the late Harrison J. and Inez (Danforth) King. On Feb. 27, 1949, in St. Albans, he married the former Theresa Girard, who survives him.

Robert was a longtime Fletcher dairy farmer and sugarer, retiring in 1985, was a member of Fletcher Grange 473 for over 40 years and was an avid bingo player. In 2003, he was honored with the dedication of the Fletcher Town report for his many years of service to the town. A selectman, planning board member and chairman, a sister, Fence viewer, town agent, grand juror, and school bus driver, Bob has done them all. He was first elected to the aelectboard in 1972 and has continually held a town position every year except for a year and a half break. In 2003 he completed 27 years as a lister.

Besides his wife of 56 years, Theresa, of Fletcher, he is survived by seven children and their spouses: Suzanne and Paul Farrar of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Sandy and Kelly Lemoine of Highgate Springs, Douglas and Kathy King of Fletcher, Lorrie and Mark Vincelette of Fletcher, Nancy and Ron Renaudette of St. Albans, Kim and Scot Phillips of Westford, and Bob and Amy King of Fletcher; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Blanche Gignac of St. Albans; four brothers-in-law and their wives: Henry and Suzanne Girard of St. Albans, Roger and Nancy Girard of Connecticut, Al and Freddie Hensley of Huron, Ohio, and Ernie and Bernie Girard of New York; a sister-in-law, Corrine Lamphere of St. Johnsbury; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, Carlton Ferguson, Gordie Gillilan, and Roswell Evans. In addition to his parents, Robert is predeceased by two sisters, Rita Cherrier and Phyllis Morey.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Binghamville United Methodist Church with Pastor Bruce Patterson officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Carroll Hill Cemetery in Fairfax. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Hospice Program of the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

HENRY P. PAQUETTE
EAST RICHFORD - Henry P. Paquette, age 86, a resident of East Richford Slide Road in East Richford, died on Thursday morning, Sept. 29, 2005, at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Paquette was born on Nov. 27, 1918, in St. Culbert, Quebec, the son of the late Mastai and Arselie (Gregoire) Paquette.

Henry farmed for many years and had also been employed for a number of years by L.A. Demers and Frank Whitcomb Construction in their stone plants, retiring in 1984. Henry enjoyed working in his garden and his workshop at home. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Henry is survived by his wife, Margaret (Durenleau) Paquette of East Richford; his children: Lawrence Paquette and his wife, Madeleine of East Richford, Raymond Paquette and his wife, Janet of Swanton, Richard Paquette and his wife, Stella of East Berkshire and Edward Paquette and his friend, Terry Noyes of Richford, Simone Jacobs and her husband, Dennis of Richford and Rose Paquette, also of Richford; his grandchildren: Karen and John Jacobs, Dennis Paquette, Joanne Garrow, Kimberly Wetherby, Melody, Stacie and Peter Paquette, Mary Martel, Ronnie, Tammy and Ann Marie Paquette, Travis Turcotte, Jeremy and Nathan Paquette; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gerard Paquette of Richford and Paul Paquette of New York; one sister, Doris Larose of White River Junction, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by four brothers: Victor, Lucien, John and Joseph Paquette; and six sisters: Marie Martin, Blanche Lessard, Lucienne Coulombe and Margaret Viens, Jean Durenleau and Marion Coture.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at 10 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with the Rev. Frank Eksterowicz, Pastor celebrating the Liturgy of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery in Richford.

Friends are invited to call on the family at the Spears Funeral Home in Richford this evening (Friday) from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

Should friends desire contributions in Mr. Paquette’s memory may be made to the Richford Ambulance, Main Street, Richford, Vt. 05476.

MARJORIE ELIZABETH BAKER
SOUTH HERO - Marjorie Elizabeth Baker, 86, died Thursday morning, Sept. 29, 2005, at the Haven Health Care in St. Albans. Marjorie was born on June 12, 1919, in South Hero, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (LaPointe) Blow.

On Sept. 9, 1944, she married Russell Baker. Russell predeceased her in 1989.

Marjorie worked a variety of jobs, including Supertemp in South Hero, as a cook at the Folsom School, at Fowlers IGA, and sorted apples of Tressler’s. She also enjoyed being a volunteer for the Foster Grandparents Program.

She is survived by her children: Marjorie Bushway of South Hero, Faye Baker of Milton, Paula Mott and her husband Frank of Hinesburg, and Russell Baker Jr. and his friend, Marlene Sorrell of Milton; by her grandchildren: Jodi Hunter, Casey Bushway, Anthony Bushway II, Russell Baker III, and Terry Baker; her great-grandsons, Alec and Ryan; her brother, Armand Blow of Florida; and sister, Marion Bushway of New York; and by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Paul, Ivan, George and Edwin; and her sister, Katherine Baker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the South Hero Cemetery.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to C.I.D.E.R., P.O. Box 13, South Hero, Vt. 05486.

The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2005, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the home of Marjorie Bushway, 23 Sunrise Drive, near the corner of Rt. 2 and 214 in South Hero.

Arrangements were by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

BETTY JULIA GABORIAULT
SWANTON / ST. ALBANS - Betty Julia Gaboriault, 85, a lifelong resident of the Swanton and St. Albans areas, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 27, 2005, in the Haven Health Center surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Detroit, Mich. on Jan. 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha (Pomeroy) Fairbanks. She attended Bellows Free Academy-St. Albans and on April 9, 1939, was married to Rene R. Gaboriault, who predeceased her on April 30, 1997.

From 1955 until the Swanton Fire in 1970, Betty, along with her husband, owned and operated the former Herrick’s Hardware Store in the Swanton Village Square. She will be remembered for her artistic ability to design and make all kinds of crafts, was an avid Bingo fan, and loved to go shopping. In their retirement years, Betty and her husband wintered in Bonita Springs, Fla.

Betty leaves two daughters, Gwen Guyette and her husband, Patrick of Georgia, and Bonnie Coon and her husband, Melvin of Swanton; a son, Albert Gaboriault and his companion, Linda Hogan of South Royalton; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Jean Hanor of St. Albans; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Blanche and Armand Gaboriault of North Port, Fla.; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves her extended family of loyal staff members and friends at the Haven Health Center in St. Albans Town.

She was predeceased by her eldest son, Sanford Rene Gaboriault; two sisters, Kate Belville and Hazel Buzzwell; and three brothers, Donald, Alvin and Doug Fairbanks.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at 11 a.m. from The First Congregational Church, 27 Church St., St. Albans City. The Reverend Judith Kennedy will officiate. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Gifts in Betty’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter, P.O. Box 1139, Montpelier 05601.

Arrangements have been under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton 05488.
