DOUGLAS OWEN SEVERY

HIGHGATE -- Douglas Owen Severy, 57, a resident of the Carter Hill Road in the Town of Highgate, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

He was born in Rochester, Vt. July 27, 1943, the son of the late Cleon and Kathleen (Goodno) Severy. He attended Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans graduating with the Class of 1962. On Sept. 25, 1965, he married the former Rosalie LaRocque who survives him.

Doug came to the St. Albans area in the late 1950s and farmed there from 1962 until 1969. In 1970 he purchased a farm on Route 7 in Swanton that he and his family operated until 1986. He later becam eassociated with New England Construction of Colchester and worked there until 1989. From 1989 until 1996 he was the manager of Brooks Feed on Platt Street in Swanton Village and from 1996 to 1998 he worked as a Real Estate Agent for Century Twenty-One in St. Albans until his illness forced him to retire.

He was a longtime member and past president of the National Farmers Organization and serve don the Advisory Board for the University of Vermont Extension Service. Doug loved his family and the youth of this area and was active in several 4-H Clubs and was past president of the Youth Hockey Organization. He also served as a member of the Swanton Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his wife Rosalie of Highgate, Doug leaves four children, Tony Severy of Highgate, Debra Ovitt and her husband Barry of Fairfax, Eric SEvery and his wife Christa of Georgia and Joseph Severy of Highgate; a grandson, Dylan Severy and granddaughter, Mychala Ovitt. He also leaves two sisters and a brother, Joyce Jones and her husband Donald of Rochester, Dorothy Vorholt of Mandeville, La., and Albert Severy and his wife Sally of Sheldon, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A son, Walter Severy in 1967, and a brother Almon Severy predeceased Doug.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Monday, May 14, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Douglas Severy's memory may be made to the VCC in care of The Development Office, University of Vermont College of Medicine, 80 University Heights, Burlington, VT 05405 or to the American Lung Association of Vermont, 30 Farrell St., So. Burlington, VT 05403.

Doug's children have written the following: Our Father, Our Best Friend, Our Coach, was a very special man. We could not have asked for, or needed any more, the love and guidance he gave to all of us. He was never judgmental but looked at everyone as an equal. He worked hard every day, not only for himself, but also for all his family. He loved the outdoors, especially working in the garden and on the farm. Dad, you will be greatly missed, but not forgotten. We know that he is still with us today and will be forever. Dad, we love you and we will never stop loving you!

MYRLE C. (MRS. WILLIAM B.) GOLDSBURY

ST. ALBANS -- Myrle C. Goldsbury, 80, of 14 Barlow Street in St. Albans, Vt. died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in the home she loved, surrounded by the children that adored her. Myrle was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Attorney William B. Goldsbury on Sept. 29, 1990.

Myrle was born in St. Albans, Vt. on Dec. 1, 1920, the daughter of the late Elisha and Georgianna (Wagner) Corrigan. She spent her lifetime in St. Albans, receiving her education in the elementary schools and graduating from Bellows Free Academy in the Class of 1938. She and her late sister Rita Corrigan-Gover, shared many wonderful years together and nurtured many friendships in St. Albans along the years to come.

On Aug. 9, 1942, Myrle married William B. Goldsbury and this began the Goldsbury home. On Sept. 13, 1947, their first child, Billy was born. It was clear from that time on that Myrle and Bill would devote their entire lives to their children. They never drew attention to themselves but received attention by the quiet example that they always set. This remains in the lives of their children and grandchildren today.

Myrle was an expert at knitting, having knit everything from mittens to dresses. She was always willing to help someone get started at knitting or to help one correct a mistake during a project. She also loved playing bridge with "the girls, " was incredibly gifted at doing crossword puzzles and always enjoyed watching sporting events on TV. She was a lifetime member of the Autonoe Club and was an active volunteer at the Ladies' Auxiliary at the Northwest Medical Center. She was a recognized fixture for years, along with her husband at the County Clerk's office in St. Albans.

The family would like to especially thank the following people for their wonderful care and support: Dr. Shulman and staff, Home Health (especially Mary Hoy and Sue Stowe), Ashley Copeland, Annemarie Miner, Verdelle Village (especially JoAnn Chambers), Redstone Villa, Meals on Wheels, Joe Bouffard, and especially the staff of the St. Albans Dialysis Unit, who became like family.

Myrle is survived by her six children and their spouses, William E. Goldsbury of Burlington, Jim and Jan Goldsbury of Colchester, Carol (Cooch) Allard of Colchester, Jane and Ed Leahy of St. Albans, Peg Vincent of St. Albans, and John and Sandy Goldsbury of Fort Mill, S.C.; 13 grandchildren, Dan, Chris and Joey Goldsbury, Corey and Shawn Donovan and their father Jim, Ashley Allard and her father Bruce, Kevin, Jason and Elizabeth Myrle (Lizzie) Leahy, Jennifer and Stephanie Vincent and their father Ron, and Ryan and Michael Goldsbury; her sister-in-law, Evelyn Bissonnette and her husband Arthur, Esther Fregeau, Irene Bouchard and her husband Paul, Sister Margaret Goldsbury, CND; and many wonderful nieces and nephews, and other close relatives. Myrle is also survived by many loving and caring friends, most especially Pat Williamson and Mary Salls.

At Myrle's request, there will be no visiting hours. There will be a Mass and Celebration of Myrle's life on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in St. Albans, Vt. Immediately following the service and burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, the family will hold a reception at the St. Mary's Parish Center Hall across from the church.

JOHN RAYMOND BOUDRO

HIGHGATE ­ Mr. John Raymond Boudro, 89, a lifelong resident of this community died early Wednesday morning, May 9, 2001, in the Holiday House Nursing Facility in St. Albans Town.

John was born in St. Albans Dec. 17, 1911, the son of the late Napoleon and Louise (Raymond) Boudro. He attended Highgate schools and on March 22, 1947, married the former Doris Green who predeceased him in January of 1980.

For fourteen years John was associated with Missisquoi Valley Union High School as the driver of the Student Activity Bus. He later drove bus for Don G. Bell, Inc. and Grand Avenue Enterprises, Inc. In his earlier years John and his partner George Firkey, owned and operated an automotive garage on the Gore Road in Highgate Center.

John faithfully served his country during WWII in the United States Army Air Force and was a 56-year member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post One in St. Albans. He also served the Town of Highgate as a member of the Cemetery Commission, The Highgate Historical Society, the Highgate Volunteer Fire Department, and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Louis Church.

His sister, Esther Choiniere of Highgate Center, as well as many nieces and nephews in Vermont and West Virginia survived John.

In addition to his wife Doris, he was predeceased by his brother, Henry Boudro in April of 1989, and a brother-in-law, Maurice Choiniere on Nov. 27, 1993. He was also predeceased by several brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law in the West Virginia area.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 14, 2001, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Interment will follow in the Boudro family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Sunday, May 13, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in John's memory may be made to Missisquoi Valley Rescue, PO Box 22, Swanton, VT 05488, or to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, VT 05478.

EVA OLIVE SAVAGE NOKES

SWANTON ­ Eva Olive Savage Nokes - Oct. 7, 1899 ­ April 30, 2001, resided much of her life in the beautiful village of Swanton, Vt. on Lake Champlain. Born to John & Ida Mae Vincelette Savage, she also appreciated and honored her loving stepfather, George Jemery. During WWI Eva was about 17 when she survived an explosion in a small, local munitions factory where her sister Dora was killed and her sister Minnie received burns. Women were allowed to vote the year Eva turned 21, she voted then and in every presidential election, including the notorious November 2000 Palm Beach County Election. Eva was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for about 65 years, member of the choir and President of the Women's Auxiliary for many years; she moved to Palm Beach Gardens and became a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in 1986. She was an active, life-time member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star; an active member of the Swanton Historical Society. She was an avid 'past member' Bridge player, especially enjoyed operas, and painted many Vermont scenes. She liked to travel, read, study the Bible, prepare excellent meals, exercise and was quite independent to her last day. Eva passed very peacefully while resting in her armchair.

Eva was married 54 years to Arthur J. Nokes, Sr. until his death in 1975. Eva loved her children and grandchildren and all their spouses: CWO Arthur J. Nokes, Jr., USA, Ret'd., wife Gladys Mitchell and children Arthur III (Brenda) and Linda (Carl Casperson) and predeceased grandsons, Steven and Robert; Leigh E. Nokes, WWII Veteran, wife Delia Roberts and children Gary (Kim), Carol (David Doyle), Alan and Wayne (Tracy); Norma N. Bentley, husband Chaplain Philip Bentley, USN Ret'd. and her children Laura (John Simon), Sally (Gary Carney), Jay Britch and Sue (Jody Foster). Eva loved her great grandchildren, Jason Nokes, Jennifer Nokes, Christopher Casperson, Eric Casperson, Zachary Britch, Ashley Britch, Jason Foster, Leann Foster, Andrea Simon, Beth Simon, Heather Nokes, Melissa Nokes, Rachel Nokes, Rebecca Nokes, Colin Nokes, Cecilia Nokes, Ricky Nokes, Alex Doyle. Eva loved her extended family: Linda Collie, Edward Bentley, Jan Bentley, Carol Gardner and Florence Descalis-Sabran. She had fond memories of many nieces and nephews and friends.

We celebrated Eva's earthly life of 101 years that spanned three centuries ­ her eternal life continued as a Divine Heavenly adventure! We love you, God Bless you and hold you close Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma ­ Shalom, Grace and Peace.

A memorial service was held Sunday, May 6, 2001, at 4 p.m. in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 3395 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens. A funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Swanton, Vt., Saturday, May 12, 2001, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. The family requests that contributions be made to the Arthur & Eva Nokes Fund at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home of Swanton, Vt.

ROBERT A. BEDARD

MILTON -- Robert A. Bedard, 68, of Milton, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester.

Robert was born July 19, 1932 in Phillipsburg, P.Q., the son of Azellus and Hortense (Poulin) Bedard.

He married Anne Marie Boudries on May 13, 1967 in Lowell, Mass.

He had worked for over 27 years at the Elizabeth Lund Home in Burlington, retiring as Superintendent of Home and Grounds.

In addition to his wife Anne Marie, Robert is survived by his daughters, Aline Bedard of Burlington, and Janet Bedard of Milton, by his son, Andre Verdon of Nashua, N.H., his grandchildren, Matthew, Samantha and Robert Verdon. Robert is also survived by his brother, Pete Bedard and his wife Ethel of Milton, his sisters, Madeline LeBoeuf of Lachine, P.Q., Jeanne d'Arc Boisvert and her husband Jean Marc of Laurier Station, P.Q., Henriette Boyer and her husband Clement of LaSalle, P.Q., and by his brother-in-law, Antonio Gemma of Newton, Mass., and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother Paul Bedard, and his sisters, Marie Lily, Rita Gemma and Marguerite Verdon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 10 at 11 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in South Hero, with burial following in St. Ann's Cemetery in Milton.

Memorials in Robert's memory may be made to either the Champlain Assoc. for Retarded Citizens or CARC, 187 St. Paul Street, Suite 3B, Burlington, VT 05401, or to the Champlain Vocational Services or CVS, 77 Hegeman Ave., Colchester, VT 05446.

Visiting hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

MARK JOSEPH BEERS

BOULDER, COLO./FREDRICKSBURG, VA. ­ Mark Joseph Beers, son of Clyde and the late Janet Beers, died May 4, 2001, at The Boulder Community Hospital. He was born Oct. 8, 1956, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Mark graduated from James Monroe high school in Virginia in 1974 and attended William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Va., where he got his bachelor's degree in computer sciences. He later got his master's in the same field.

In 1978 he began his career at IBM where he met the former Denise Therrien, originally of St. Albans, Vt. June 27, 1987 he and Denise were married at Holy Angels Church in St. Albans, Vt. they made their home in Virginia and in December of 1987 they moved to Boulder, Colo., where he worked as a manager for IBM. Mark did extensive travels for his career taking him worldwide.

Besides his wife of 14 years, he is survived by his father, Clyde and stepmother, Annette Beers of Virginia; his older brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Sherry and their children, Emily and Jonathan Beers of Virginia; his in-laws, Paul and Anita Therrien of Vermont; and his sister-in-law and her husband Sue and Ron and their children, Jenniffer and Jason Dunbar of Vermont; as well as his aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his mother, Janet and brother-in-law, Kevin.

Mark was not only a loving and devoted son and brother, but a loving and devoted husband to his wife Denise. He was her soul-mate and best friend. Mark will be missed and loved by all who knew him. God bless you Mark and keep you safe.

RUDOLPH ADRIAN BLAIR

ALBURG ­ Mr. Rudolph Adrian Blair, 72, a native and longtime resident of Alburg died Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Verdelle Village Extended Care Facility in St. Albans Town.

He was born in Alburg, Jan. 27, 1929, the son of the late Edward and Flossie (Santor Blair. He attended school in Alburg and for all of his working life was associated with the Rutland, Central Vermont and Canadian National Railroads. He will be especially remembered for his love of woodworking, making many things for his family. He also enjoyed cooking, fishing and playing cards.

Mr. Blair leaves two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Doris Blair and Mrs. Florence Blair, both of Alburg; his nieces and nephews, Roberta and Omer (Bud) Bruley of St. Albans, Ronda Desautels of Burlington, Roderick Blair of Williston, Randolyn Thomas Bennett of Montgomery Center, Raylene and Charles McFeeters of St. Albans, Ronita and Geoff Pretty of Alburg, James and Susan Blair of Alburg and Terry and Dean Elwood of Alburg, as well as many grand nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Roderick and Romeo Blair predeceased him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 12, 2001, at 3 p.m. from St. Amadeus Church, Main St., Alburg Village. The Pastor, Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Blair family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery in Alburg. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Gifts in Mr. Blair's memory may be made to the Alburg Fire and Rescue, in care of Terry Tatro, Alburg, VT 05440.

STELLA MARY MITCHELL

BANGOR, MAINE/ST. ALBANS, VT. ­ Stella M. Mitchell, 83, wife of the late Theron Mitchell, died March 15, 2001, at a local hospital. She was born April 23, 1917 in St. Albans, Vt., the daughter of the late Matilda (Robitor) Brouillette and George Brouillette. Mrs. Mitchell was predeceased by her son James D. LaPan and daughter Barbara E. Friend and her husband Thomas Friend and their son John.

She is survived by her son William D. LaPan and his wife Ruth of Bangor, Maine; six grandchildren, Mary Friend, Theresa O'Halloran and her husband Michael O'Halloran, Thomas Friend and his wife Barbara Friend, Karen LaPan, Joshua LaPan and his wife Mary, and William D. LaPan, Jr.

She is also survived by great grandchildren, Melissa Friend, Briana O'Halloran, Jamie Eburg, Stephen and Christopher Friend, nieces, nephews and many friends and one special friend, Beverly Bartlett of St. Albans, Vt.

There will be a gravesite service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in St. Albans, Vt. in the summer to be announced at a later date.
