WAYNE A. BROW
SWANTON - The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, at 2 p.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Father John J. Meagher, SSE was the celebrant and homilist. Edward Daniel and John Tougas served as Ministers of the Altar. Music was provided by organist and soloist, Mary Jo Gillilan.

The White Funeral Pall was draped over Wayne’s casket by his daughter, Melanie Laviolette and his son, Lanny Brow. His wife Carol Brow then placed the crucifix. Granddaughter, Tasney Moody proclaimed readings from both The Old and New Testament. The Offertory Gifts were presented by great niece and nephew, Ashley and Michael Lapan. Following communion, granddaughter Shannon Vorse shared Special Words of Remembrance.

Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 and Auxiliary, Nutrena Feeds, Dexter Products, Mary S. Babcock and Swanton Central Schools, The Abbey Group, Bev’s Shear Expectation, Wood & Kidder, Inc., Porter’s Bike Shop, Reggie Rice Construction, Missisquoi Valley Rescue, The Village Green Apartments, and friends and neighbors from Swanton Meadows.

Interment followed in the Brow family lot in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery with Father Meagher reading the committal prayers. The bearers were Kevin Fournier, Keith Gagne, Timmy Sartwell, Jamie Rollo, Adam Lambert, Andy Burnor and Corey Brow.

Full Military Honors accorded the deceased by members of the Vermont Air National Guard, Honor Guard Team. Officer In Charge was Major Melvin Terry. Members of the Color Guard were TSG Erika Mercure and TSG Bradley Whalen. Participating in the Firing Party were SMS Tim Agan, SMS Digne Kinne, SMS Donald Peterson, MSG David Lavallee and TSG Brian Wells. Taps were sounded by Bugler, MSG David Lavallee. The American flag, which draped the Vermont Army National Guardsman’s casket, was folded by SMS Donald Peterson and Major Melvin Terry and presented to his son, Lanny Brow by longtime family friend, Colonel Wayne Bourgeois, United States Army, (Ret.).

Following the Prayers of Committal and Military Services a Bereavement Luncheon was served at the home of Wayne’s niece and nephew, Debbie and Wendell Roberts on Vermont Route 78 in Highgate.

On Wednesday evening during the visitation Special Words of Remembrance were shared by great-grandchildren, Jordan and Anthony Vorse and niece, Ashley Erno.

CLAIRE K. BUSHEY
ST. ALBANS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Claire K. (O’Brien) Bushey on Friday at 2 p.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy was the celebrant. Altar servers were Norman Bushey and Russell Porwitzky. Mary Jo Gillilan was the organist and soloist.

The Holy Scripture readings were offered by granddaughters, Kelly Rainville and Krista Pavia. Offertory Gifts were presented to Father Roy by granddaughters, Karen King and Brittany Pavia. Claire’s niece, Kathy Tabor shared fond memories with the congregation.

Attending were representatives of Peoples Trust Bank, Reginald Rice Construction, Lorraine’s and neighbors of Lower Welden and Edward Streets.

Bearers were her grandchildren Jeff Bushey, Kim Bushey, Michelle Reid, Eric Takayama, Amy Takayama-Perez and Brent Takayama.

Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy interment was in the Bushey family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon was served in Holy Angels Parish Center, hosted by the Ladies of St. Anne.

Thursday evening, the family participated in a prayer service by encircling the room, holding hands, being led by Claire’s son-in-law, C. Eugene Justus, in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

JEAN E. JUSTUS
ST. ALBANS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Jean E. Justus on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy was the celebrant. Altar servers were Maynard Gosselin and George Swann. Mary Jo Gillilan was the organist and soloist.

Jean’s son, David Justus, shared fond memories of life with Jean and spoke of her many accomplishments.

A guard of honor was present from the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1. Mr. Edgar Royer was the bearer of the American flag.

Attending were representatives of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert E. Glidden Post 758, the Auxiliary units of Post 1 and Post 758, J.M.S.N. Class of 1959, Peoples Trust Bank, Reginald Rice Construction, former neighbors of Lower Welden Street and Edward Street.

Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy, the Vermont Air National Guard saluted the deceased Air Force Veteran Nurse. The Officer in Charge was Major Melvin Terry. The Firing Squad members were SMS Tim Agan, SMS Don Peterson, MSG Rich Celia, MSG Dave Lavallee and TSG Brian Wells. Sounding “Taps” was Bugler MSG Lavallee. MSG Celia and Major Terry folded the American flag and Major Terry presented the flag to Jean’s husband, Carlyle Eugene Justus.

Interment was then in the Justus family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. A luncheon and video tribute of Jean’s life were held in the St. Mary’s Parish Center. Hosts for the luncheon was St. Mary’s Bereavement Committee.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

WILMA D. BERTH
WILBRAHAM, Mass. - Wilma D. (Duffus) Berth, 94, of Wilbraham, Mass., died Thursday evening, Oct. 20, 2005, in a Worcester county nursing home after a brief illness with cancer.

Born in Springfield, Mass., June 8, 1911, she was the daughter of the late James R.C. and Agnes (McRobie) Duffus, originally natives of Scotland. A resident of Ludlow for over 50 years, she and her husband Frank moved to Wilbraham in October of 1963.

A member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Ludlow, and was honored in 2003 for 75 years of faithful membership. She was a member of the church choir and was active in many of their functions, from the Pastoral Relations Committee to fundraising efforts on behalf of the church’s mission.

Educated in Ludlow public schools, she worked as an instructor to new employees at what was then Union Bank and Trust, becoming Valley Bank and, ultimately, Bank of America. She had the title of its oldest member. A member and Past Worthy Matron of the James W. Hannum Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Wilma was a grand officer of the state organization on two occasions and was an honorary member of several regional Eastern Star chapters.

For many years she was an active member of the Past Matrons Association of the local chapters. Wilma also had a special interest in sports, especially the Boston Red Sox. She also loved gardens and museums throughout New England.

Her husband Frank, whom she married in 1929, died in January of 1980. She is survived by her son, Donald Berth of Holden, Mass., who was the associate dean of the College of Engineering at Cornell before leaving in 1983 to become Vice President of WPI in Massachusetts. Also surviving her are her sisters, Helena Bourden of Monrovia, Calif., and Dorothy Best of St. Albans, Vt. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, Mass., with Rev. Beryl Notman officiating. Private Rites of Committal will be in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Memorial gifts may be made to any of the following: The Frank & Wilma Berth Book Fund at WPI, Development Office, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, MA 01056; or to the charity of one’s choice.

JAMES A. GAUDETTE
GEORGIA - James Arthur Gaudette, age 89, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at The Franklin County Rehabilitation Center in St. Albans. He was born in Fairfax, May 29, 1916, the son of the late Alias and Mary (Murray) Gaudette.

Jim worked as a dairy farm laborer, scrap iron dealer, wood splitter and cutter for most of his life. Jim did everything the old fashioned way and enjoyed every bit of a hard task. He will be tremendously missed by his family and many friends that had the true pleasure to know and love him.

He is survived by one brother, Raymond Gaudette of Georgia; three sisters: Katherine Beaudoin of South Burlington, Dorothy Metevier of Burlington and Eleanor Foy of Hartford, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews. Jim is predeceased by seven brothers: Vernon, Paul, Kenneth, Ralph, Louis, Roy Sr. and Robert; and three sisters: Elsene Gaudette, Mary Metevier and Eunice Raymond.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the A.W. Rich Funeral Home Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at The A. W. Rich Funeral Home Fairfax Chapel with The Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Sanderson Corners Cemetery Fairfax.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to Franklin County VNA, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are by John D. Workman of the A.W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

LILA J. GENDRON
BERKSHIRE - Lila J. Gendron, age 91, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 19, 2005, at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford where Lila made her home for the last few months.
She was born Dec. 23, 1913, in Berkshire, the daughter of the late Arthur and Lulah May (Combs) Lagro

She was a resident of Richford most of her life and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and lived her life for her family. Her hobbies were knitting, gardening and baking.

She is survived by three daughters: Estelle Girard and her husband, Camille of Richford, Jean White and her husband, Sam of Grand Isle, and Sally Pelkey and her husband, Phil of Berkshire; three sons: Leon Gendron and his wife, Kathy of Berkshire, Roger Gendron of Richford, James Gendron and his wife, Tammy of Richford; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sylvia Lagro of Richford. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Patrick; two sons, Samuel and Larry Gendron; one daughter, Margaret Gendron; and two brothers, Lawrence and Graydon Lagro.

In keeping with her wishes she will be cremated and funeral services will be held Monday morning, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Rev. Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

For those who wish, contributions in her memory may be made to Franklin County Home Health Agency - Hospice Program, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.

CHRISTINE E. REGAN
BARRE - Christine E. Regan, 81, of the North Barre Manor, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at her home. Born Dec. 25, 1923, in Fairfield, she was the daughter of Allen and Margaret (Hale) Miner.

She married Berthol Regan. Following their marriage, they made their home in St. Albans. They later divorced. Since 1992, she had made her home in Barre.

She was a member of the Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Barre, the North Barre Manor Tenants Council and the Robert E. Glidden VFW Post Auxiliary of St. Albans.

Survivors include her son, Ronald J. Regan of South Barre; two grandchildren; and a brother, Bruce Miner of Lakeland, Fla. A brother, Daniel Miner, predeceased her.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Barre. There are no calling hours.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, Vt. 05641.

The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre is in charge of arrangements.

ARNOLD P. ‘PETE’ BRAULT
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Arnold P. “Pete” Brault passed away on Oct. 13, 2005, at age 87.

He was predeceased by parents, Eugene Brault and Laura Church Brault. Arnold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Claire Desautels Brault in Rochester; daughter, Barbara Brault in Rochester; grandchildren, Peter Hubinsky in Rochester and Sarah Hubinsky-Phelps in Pomona, Calif.; and great-grandson, Nathan Hubinsky in Rochester.

Pete was a veteran of World War II, Pacific Theater, a member of the American Legion Post 0001 (St. Albans), served in the Vermont National Guard prior to and after returning from World War II, and retired from work in the Glens Falls, New York area where he and his family lived upon leaving St. Albans in 1957.

Burial services will be held in Pete and Claire's hometown of St. Albans, at Calvary Cemetery, 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005.

In lieu of flowers, masses may be said for the repose of Pete's soul at Holy Angels Church in St. Albans.

RUTH CRAKES HEISER
MONTGOMERY - Ruth Crakes Heiser passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at her farm in Montgomery. She was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Mason, Mich. to Lottie (Davenport) and Earl Crakes.

Ruth was raised in Michigan and attended college there before joining the Navy, where she met Donald H. Heiser. She and Don were married in April 1947. They moved from Virginia to Maryland to New York to California, following Don’s work as a Mathematical Engineer, and settled in Vermont in 1964. Ruth was a homemaker and raised six children. She was a lister for the Town of Montgomery for 22 years, retiring in 2004. Besides her family, she loved many dear friends and her home.

Ruth was widowed in 1994. She leaves her six children: Sarah of St. Johnsbury, Vt., John of North Carolina, Martha of North Carolina, Lucinda of Montgomery, Vt., James of Tennessee and Susan of Burlington, Vt. She also leaves her sister, Edith of Ohio, having been predeceased by siblings Dorothy, Donald and Richard. She leaves 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Ruth’s wishes were to be cremated with no funeral. For those who wish, contributions in her memory may be made to Health Seekers of Vermont, P.O. Box 26, St. Albans Bay, Vt. 05480.

Ruth will be remembered in the hearts of many with great love and respect.

Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
