ALEXANDER ROBERTS
COLCHESTER - Alexander Roberts, 84, a longtime resident of Colchester, died peacefully at his home on Monday, Oct. 10, 2005.

Alex was born in Killingly, Conn. on Dec. 17, 1920, the son of the late Guillaume and Mary Louise Roberts, and was educated in Quebec, Canada. He was married on Dec. 1, 1945, to Gyneth (Charron) Roberts, who predeceased him on March 28, 1963.

Alex was employed at Ingleside Farm in St. Albans for many years, and after 20 years, retired from the University of Vermont on June 30, 1987, and enjoyed his time fishing.

Alex is survived by his daughter, Nancy Blow and her husband David of Winooski; granddaughters, Lisa Blow of Burlington, and Karen Trayah and her husband Bruce of Mims, Fla.; great-grandchildren: Stephen, Stacey, Alexander (his namesake), and Daniel.

He was predeceased by his brothers: Arthur, Henry, Wilfred, Frederic, and Francis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Colchester.

Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery in Bakersfield. There will be no visiting hours.

Arrangements are with the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski.

GLENNAMAE INEZ STEWART
HIGHGATE FALLS - Glennamae Inez Stewart, 70, a lifelong Highgate Falls resident, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 7, 2005, at the Haven Health Center in St. Albans Town.

Born in Highgate Falls on April 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Parkman and Gertrude (Proper) Stewart.

She was a graduate of the former Highgate High School and for many years was office manager at the former George Yette Bag Company in Swanton Village. Glennamae was also a longtime licensed Taxidermist operating her own business out of her home on the Highgate Road as well as working several years as caretaker of the Highgate Center Cemetery. She was a volunteer at the former Holiday House and Verdelle Village Extended Care Facilities, faithfully delivered many years for the Meals on Wheels Program and was a very active member of The Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Swanton Town. She was an avid hunter and will be especially remembered for her love of horses and reading, especially books relating to history.

Glennamae leaves two sisters, Evelyn Martin of Highgate Falls and Caroline Martel of St. Albans; a sister-in-law, Barbara Stewart of Highgate Falls; nieces and nephews, Marie Martel of Highgate Falls, Stanley “Butch” Stewart Jr., of Highgate Falls, Peggy French of New Mexico, Patricia Wells of Essex, George Martin III, of Highgate Falls, Linda Rivers of Florida and Rebecca Rock of St. Albans.

She was predeceased by her brother, Stanley Stewart in 1984; two brothers-in-law, George “Guy” Martin II and Norman Ladue; a very special uncle, Irving Coburn; and a nephew, Dennis Martin.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at 11 a.m. from The Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Vermont Route 7, Swanton Town. Interment will follow in Highgate Center Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.

Gifts in Glennamae’s memory may be made to The Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Vermont Route 7, Swanton, Vt. 05488, or to The Meals on Wheels Program, in care of Champlain Valley Agency on Aging, P.O. Box 158, Winooski, Vt. 05404.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, 05488.

JEAN E. JUSTUS
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Jean E. Justus, age 67, passed away Sept. 29, 2005, at her home in Plymouth, Mich. Her loving family was by her side. She was born Aug. 23, 1938, in St. Albans, the daughter of Maurice P. and Claire K. (O’Brien) Bushey.

Jean received a nursing degree from the Jeanne Mance School of Nursing in Burlington. Jean was well known by all as a very compassionate person with a love of life and helping others. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her and enriched the lives of her many friends and family. During her career as a registered nurse she was consistently recognized for her outstanding patient care. Her career included positions with Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York, where she was assigned to care for numerous VIP patients, including King Faisal of Saudi Arabia and General Douglas MacArthur.

During the Vietnam War, she volunteered to serve as a nurse in the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant, caring for wounded members of all of the branches of U.S. military.

On June 27, 1970, she married Carlyle E. Justus, with whom she had served in the Air Force. She was a loving wife and mother and they were together for 35 years. During his career as an international banker they traveled throughout the United States and numerous foreign countries. Her favorite locations were the Green Mountains of her beloved Vermont, and the beautiful country of Bermuda.

Jean is survived by her husband and their two children, Lisa and her husband, Kurt, David and his wife, Daya; and two much adored grandchildren, Jack and David. She is also survived by her mother, Claire Bushey; her brother, Robert Bushey and his wife, Shirley, of St. Albans; a sister, Priscilla Takayama and her husband, Wesley, of Nashua, N.H.; her aunt and Godmother, Yvonne (Bushey) Cross; her aunt, Colleen (O’Brien) Jaiber and Elanor O’Brien of St. Albans; her aunt, Edwilda O’Brien of Albuquerque, New Mexico; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Maurice Bushey, in 1981; her brother, Richard Bushey; and a sister, Maureen Healy, both in 1999.
Upon the birth of her children she became a full-time mother and was devoted to them. She was a role model, friend and advocate for them throughout her life. She participated in their education by developing art and other learning programs for the Catholic schools they attended.

Throughout her life, Jean continuously sought personal and spiritual growth. She was invited to become one of the first Covenant Members of the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters, Daughters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, one of a limited number of married women with a family to be so honored as a non-vowed member to share in the life of the religious community. The community is guided by the healing mission of St. Francis in creating nursing and other caring communities.

Her love of life, laughter and caring spirit will live on in the memories of all who knew her. The following quote in a letter from one of her dear friends, near the end of Jean’s life, captures her essence: “Please, tell Jean how much I love her. I think of her very, very often and remember all the wonderful times we had together. I’ll never forget her beautiful eyes - so full of wonder and so wise. Never in my life have I had a friend with such a beautiful mind and heart.” Jean will be deeply missed by her family and friends and their memories of her will be cherished.

A memorial mass was held for her on Oct. 1 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Plymouth, Mich., where she and her husband have been members.

A second memorial mass will be held for Jean at 11 a.m. on Oct. 22 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Albans, Vt., the church of her family for generations. Her ashes will be interred at the Justus family lot at Holy Cross Cemetery in St. Albans. That will include a military honor guard in recognition of her service in the U.S. Air Force.

At 1 p.m., Jean’s extended family and friends are invited to join her family for a luncheon, graciously hosted by the members of the St. Mary’s Church, at their Parish Center in St. Albans to celebrate their lives and hers.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Hospice, 806 Airport Boulevard, Ann Arbor, Mich. 48108-3551.

Local arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

ELISA ANNE (OUELLETTE) JARING
SWANTON / VERGENNES - Elisa Ann (Ouellette) Jaring, 46, a native of Vergennes and a resident of the Swanton community for the past 14 years died late Thursday evening, Oct. 6, 2005, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Burlington on June 20, 1959, she was the daughter of Floriant and Mary (Doner) Ouellette. She graduated from Vergennes Union High School with the Class of 1977 and on April 20, 1985, was married to Cornelis Jaring, who survives her.

For the past six years Elisa has been associated as a paraprofessional with the Highgate Elementary School. She was also involved in the bookkeeping and administration of their home based business, North Country Hoof Trimming and was a volunteer for the Linda Wood Mason Breast Cancer Foundation. She will be remembered as a very straight forward person, but a loving wife and mother who lived for her children. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching her children’s soccer and hockey games. During her illness she spent many hours crocheting and knitting baby blankets, afghans and scarves. She also enjoyed watching the Lifetime Television Network.

In addition to her husband Cornelis of Swanton, Elisa leaves four children: Katie, Keesy, Nathan and Jennifer Jaring, all of Swanton; her parents, Floriant and Mary Ouellette of Vergennes; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Doner of Louisville, Ky.; her mother and father-in-law, Cornelis and Dirkje Jaring of Vankleek Hill, Ontario; her brothers and sisters, Marlene Sorrell and husband Christopher, Jeffrey Ouellette and wife Betsey, Cindy Ouellette, David Ouellette and Randy Ouellette all of Vergennes; 11 nieces and nephews; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at 2 p.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist.
Interment will take place later in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cemetery Vergennes. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Gifts in Elisa’s memory may be made to a college fund that is being established for her children, in care of Cornelis Jaring, 90 Monument Road, Swanton, Vt. 05488.

PRISCILLA ROUSSELLE
PASSADENA, Md. - A Graveside Funeral Service was held for Mrs. Priscilla Rouselle, Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.

Mrs. Rousselle died Oct. 3 at her home in Passadena, Md.

She was born Aug. 22, 1950, in St. Albans, Vt., and lived in Glen Burnie before moving to Brooklyn Park, Md. four years ago.

Mrs. Rousselle was a media assistant for Anne Arundel County Public Schools for more than 20 years. She worked at Richard Henry Lee Elementary School in Glen Burnie and Linthicum Elementary School.

She volunteered with Knights of Columbus Council 3413.

Mrs. Rousselle enjoyed camping and knitting and was a NASCAR fan.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Phillip A. Rousselle Sr.; two sons, Phillip A. Rousselle Jr. of Brooklyn and Michael G. Rousselle of Glen Burnie; three sisters, Pamela, Deborah and Rebecca Paradee, all of St. Albans; and seven grandchildren.

Arrangements were entrusted locally to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

PAUL RICHARD HEALY
NORTH HERO - The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at 11 a.m. from St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church. Father James A. Lawrence, pastor of the Lake Champlain Islands Roman Catholic Parishes, was the celebrant and homilist. Music was provided by organist and soloist Mary Jo Gillilan and the St. Rose of Lima Church Choir.

The Crucifix was placed by Paul’s wife, Mary Jane Healy. The Old Testament Reading was proclaimed by son-in-law, Bryan Randall and The New Testament Reading by family friend, Shane Benson. Following communion, special words of remembrance were shared by Paul’s daughter, Catherine Randall.

Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from the Vermont House of Representatives, S.T. Griswold, North Hero Town Offices, North Hero Historical Society, North Hero Volunteer Fire Department, Grand Isle Fire and Rescue, Grand Isle Supervisory Union Office of the Superintendent of Schools, Shore Acres Inn and Restaurant, Aqua Vista, Howard’s Alarm Service, North Hero and Isle La Motte United Methodist Churches, United States Army and the Lake Champlain Islands Roman Catholic Parish Communities.

Bagpipes were played prior to and at the conclusion of the service by Piper, Thomas Kirkpatrick. Interment in the Healy family lot in Jerusalem Cemetery will take place later at the convenience of the family.

Following the Liturgy, a Bereavement Luncheon was served at the Healy Residence on West View Lane in North Hero, hosted by family and friends.

EILEEN WALL DORSEY
ST. ALBANS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Eileen Wall Dorsey, Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Church, with Father Leonidas Laroche as the celebrant. Assisting Father Laroche on the altar was Deacon Jack Rixon. Readings from scripture were read by Mr. Robert LeClair. The organist and soloist was Mrs. Claire Hungerford. Casket bearers were Michael Wall, Melissa and Robert Wagner, Trevor and Scott Campbell and Michael Boulerice.

Interment followed in the Wall family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Swanton.

Delegations in attendance were from the neighbors of Heritage Lane and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Father Laroche conducted the Christian Wake Service with Eileen’s family Wednesday evening at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

EILEEN WALL DORSEY
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Eileen Wall Dorsey, age 87, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center on Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, 2005. Eileen was born in St. Albans, Aug. 20, 1918, daughter of the late Frederick and Edith (O’Leary) Wall.

She was employed at Pratt-Whitney for a short time and at Connecticut Printers for over 44 years and lastly supervised applications for agents at Travelers Insurance Company. She was a member of the Irish American Club of Hartford, Conn., and artist and an animal lover. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in St. Albans. She was married to Edward P. Dorsey, Oct. 21, 1945.

Eileen’s survivors include her sister, Catherine Steen of St. Albans; her brother, Larry and his wife, Shirley Wall of Swanton; nephews: Ralph Desiderio Jr. of New York, and Michael Wall of Swanton; nieces: Melissa and her husband, Bobby Wagner of Swanton, Charlotte Crosley of Kansas; grandnieces, Bailey Buckley, Hannah Wagner both of Swanton, Kirk Wagner of Williston; grandnephews, Cassidy Wall of Swanton, James Desiderio of New York; brother-in-law, Ralph Desiderio, Sr. of Long Island, N.Y. Besides her parents and husband, Eileen was predeceased by her sisters: Ruth Wall, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Desiderio; brothers: Patrick Wall and Robert Wall; her brother-in-law, James Steen; and her special aunt, Margaret Wall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in the Wall family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Swanton.

Memorials may be made in masses or to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

ELDORA M. DAVIS
PANTON - Eldora Margery Davis, 86, of Panton, passed away on Oct. 3, 2005, at her daughter’s residence in South Duxbury.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1919, in Ferrisburgh, the daughter of Jennie (Torrey) and Archie Preston.

She was a 1939 graduate of Vergennes High School. On May 9, 1942, she married George A. Davis in Bristol. He died June 20, 1981.

Returning to Vermont from Arizona, where her husband had been stationed during World War II, they made their home in Panton. She worked for Kneeshaw’s Turkey Farm and Rivers Edge Cabins. She was also a bookkeeper for her husband’s auto maintenance business. Her interests included homemaking, fishing, bird watching, sewing and gardening. She was a member of Panton Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Marjorie Day and her husband, Richard of St. Albans, and Bonnie Morse and her husband, Mark of South Duxbury; a sister, Virginia Perry of Redondo Beach, Calif.; granddaughters: Sarah Day of St. Albans and Alison Magnani and her husband, Christian of Waterbury; a sister-in-law, Helen Preston of Vergennes; a nephew, Chris Preston and his wife, Lisa, and their children Michael and Dylan of Addison. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Torrey Preston; and granddaughter, Jennifer Morse.

Eldora requested there be no calling hours or funeral service.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 11, Vergennes, Vt. 05491-0011, or to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, Vt. 05641.

Arrangements are in the care of the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home and Cremation Service, in Waterbury.
