CLARK H. HUBBARD
Largely attended funeral services for Clark H. Hubbard, who passed away on Dec. 8, 2005, were held on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Franklin United Church with Pastor Jason McConnell officiating. Music was provided pianist and vocalist, Jennifer McConnell. Usher was Mark Stanley. Several in attendance shared special words about Clark.

In attendance was representation from the Franklin Fire Department and Rescue Squad, International Business Machines, Montcalm Real Estate, A.N. Deringer, Inc., The Abbey Restaurant and Catering, H. G. Berger Fuels, Swanton Lumber, Inc., Bellows Free Academy Class of 1955, St. Albans Lodge, 1566, B.P.O.E., Enosburg Country Club, Champlain Country Club, The Owl Club, Missisquoi Lodge 9 F&AM, Franklin Lodge 4, F & AM, Mount Sinai Temple 3 AAONMS, Franklin United Church, Franklin Cemetery Association, Cattle Dealers Association, several area farmers and many neighbors of the Franklin Community.

Honorary casket bearers were Merrill Hungerford, Frank Read, Bud Grismore, Art Heald and Win Heald.

Casket bearers were Bill Rowell, Harold Berger, Jim Mullen, Archie Domina, Harold Howrigan and Marty Wennar, MD.

A special thanks to the Franklin Fire Department for their assistance during Clark's visitation and funeral service.

Following Prayers of Committal by Pastor McConnell, interment took place in the family lot in the Franklin Cemetery. A reception followed in the church parlor hosted by the Franklin United Church family.

Assisting Clark's family was the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.

LENA E. (BARKYOUMB) LAVERDURE
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. / FAIRFAX, Vt. - Lena Emma (Barkyoumb) Laverdure, 91 of Boynton Beach, Fla. passed away on Dec. 8, 2005.

Lena was born in Fairfax, Vt. on Dec. 13, 1913, daughter of the late Edward and Clara (Drinkwine) Barkyoumb. She was united in marriage to Roma E. Laverdure on Dec. 29, 1934, in Milton, Vt. Roma predeceased her on Feb. 23, 1998. She resided in Fairfax and St. Albans most of her life before moving to Wilmington, N.C. and later onto Boynton Beach, Fla. She was an excellent card player and was a member of a local Bridge & Pinochle club. Lena loved shopping, social gatherings with her many friends, was constantly on the go and always looked forward to her relaxing manicures & pedicures. She will be greatly missed by all those who had the true pleasure to know and love her.

She is survived by one son, Richard J. Laverdure and wife Christine of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Reginald Barkyoumb and wife Joyce of Fairfax, Gordon Barkyoumb and wife Ramona of Hopkinton, Mass.; three grandsons, all of Wilmington, N.C.: Richard J. Laverdure Jr. and wife, Clarice, Gary E. Laverdure and wife, Leighann and Bruce D. Laverdure and wife, Angela; five great-grandchildren, also of Wilmington, N.C.: Jonathan, Brittany and Deven, Katie and Austin; one step great-granddaughter, Clae-Ana Mannino of Boynton Beach, Fla.; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She is also predeceased by three brothers: Bill Barkyoumb, Edward Berthiaume and Walter Barkyoumb; three sisters: Eva Kosla, Helen Gaboury and Florence Magnan.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at A. W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke Church, Fairfax. Interment will be in the family lot in St. Luke’s Cemetery in the spring at the convenience of the family.

RENE P. BOMBARDIER
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. / GEORGIA, Vt. - Rene P. Bombardier, 72, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at the home of his daughter Laurie, with his loving family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Rene was born on March 8, 1933, in Swanton, the son of Henry and Rosealda (Thibert) Bombardier.

He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving as a Corporal during the Korean conflict.

He married Carolyn Branch on September 8, 1956 in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Milton.

Rene was employed at A.L. Barcomb, presently Dowlings, for many years as a warehouse manager. He also worked for the Buyers Digest.

For the last 17 years he and Carolyn have lived in North Myrtle Beach.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Branch) Bombardier of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Georgia, Vt.; by his children and grandchildren, Laurie Rivers and her husband, Tom of Swanton, Kelly Ahlefeld and her husband, Rick and his grandchildren Levi, Alex and Hayley of Pa., Donna LeBlanc and her husband, Pierre and his grandchildren Nicole, Kyle and Travis of Grand Isle, Tammy Field and her husband, Terry of Montpelier and his grandchildren Rylee and Ben; by his brothers and sisters: Alice Perras of Florida, Aline Cyr and her husband, Roland of St. Albans, Alma DesLauries of Williston, Albert Bombardier and his wife, Ruth of Milton, Armand Bombardier and his wife, Ginny of Connecticut, Emile Bombardier of Milton, Rose Wilbur and her husband, Stan of LA., and Leo Bombardier and his wife, Joan of Connecticut; and by several nieces and nephews.

Rene was predeceased by his parents; and his brother Alcide.

Rene’s family would like to thank the Franklin County Home Health Agency, Hospice Program for the excellent care given to Rene during his illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ann Catholic Church in Milton.

Contributions in Rene’s memory may be made to the Franklin County Home. Health Agency, c/o Hospice Program, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, located on Route 7 in Milton.

AMBROSE G. PAQUIN
Funeral services for Ambrose G. "Junior" Paquin, who passed away on Dec. 5, 2005, were held on Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, in the Heald Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Leonidas B. Laroche, Pastor of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church officiating. Music was by organist and vocalist, Mary Jo Gillilan. The Holy Scriptures were proclaimed by granddaughters, Kelly Madigan and Alexis Campbell. Words of remembrance were offered by grandsons, James Trombley and Ambrose Paquin.

In attendance and forming a Guard of Honor were members from Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion and Robert E. Glidden Post 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Among the many in attendance was representation from Paquin Automotive Group, E. J. Barrett & Sons, Handy Dodge, Toyota Group, Handy Pontiac, Cadillac, Buick & GMC, Surgical Services of the Northwestern Medical Center, Clarence Brown, Inc., The Foundry Machine Shop, Franklin County Sheriff Department, Montcalm Real Estate, Sisters of Mercy, Farrington Construction Company, H. J. and A. Howrigan Farms and Cioffi Real Estate.

Casket bearers were Ambrose's grandchildren, Benjamin Patnode, Ambrose Paquin, Christopher Paquin, James Trombley, Andrew Trombley, Kelly Madigan, Joe Madigan, Matthew Kittell, Caleb Kittell, Jacob Campbell and Alexis Campbell.

Following Prayers of Committal by Father Laroche, the American flag from the Korean Conflict veteran's casket was presented to Ambrose's grandson, Benjamin Patnode by James Brouillette, representing the veteran organizations. Interment followed in the family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Assisting Ambrose's family was the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.

KEVIN G. CALLAHAN
METHUEN, Mass. - Kevin G. Callahan, 37, died Dec. 7, 2005, at his home. Born in Methuen, he graduated from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1986, and attended The University of Massachusetts. He was an EMT while he was a student. He then attended the Massachusetts Police Officer’s Academy at Somerville where he graduated as Valedictorian of his class.

In recognition of his service on the Lawrence Police Department, Kevin received numerous merits and awards, including the Medal of Valor and several Life Saving Medals as a result of his heroic efforts on the job. His greatest job satisfaction was knowing that he helped people in need or in trouble.

Kevin was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Lawrence and more recently at St. Michael’s Church in North Andover. He was well known for his musical talents. He played the guitar and sang. He recorded two CDs, the profit of which went to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or to churches. Kevin also donated his services, each year, to the Boston Catholic, Television Channel to help the BCTV raise money. He played and sang regularly at St. Michael’s Sunday Mass, and Holy Rosary, Corpus Christie Church in Lawrence. Families frequently request Kevin for weddings, funerals and civic events.

His wife Cindy, who is originally from northwest Vermont, said that his kids meant absolutely everything to him and he spent every moment possible with them. His Dad remembers Kevin as a great son, husband and father. His wife and children were his whole life. He refused job opportunities and promotions so as to be more available for his family.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Cindy J. (Willey) Callahan; a son, Benjamin; a daughter, Emily; his parents, Francis E. Jr. and Rachel S. (McBride) Callahan, all of Methuen; a brother, Michael and his wife, Janine of Connecticut; two sisters, Elin Callahan of North Andover and Maureen Callahan-Wing and her husband, Braman of Interlaken, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church in North Andover, Mass. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects on Monday from 3 to 9 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main St., North Andover, Mass., where Kevin’s body will lie in state.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kevin Callahan Memorial Trust Fund, (13707006) c/o Lawrence Fire Fighters and Municipal Credit Union, 14 Amesbury St., Lawrence, Mass. 01840.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dewhirst and Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third St., North Andover, Mass.

ADA LUMBRA ANDERSON
RICHFORD - Ada Lumbra Anderson, age 84, passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 8, 2005, at the Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans.

She was born March 24, 1921, in Montgomery Center, the daughter of the late Newton and Hazel (Lavalla) Lumbra. Upon her mother’s death, she was raised by her uncle and aunt, George and Ada (Lavalla) Chappell.

Ada was a resident of Richford most of her life and was a 1939 graduate of Richford High School. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and along with her husband and their friends ran the Bingo’s at the church for several years. She was also a member of the St. Anne’s Society in Montgomery Center. She served as treasurer for the All Saints Cemetery Association. She had worked at Sweat - Comings Furniture Company for several years and then worked for 20 years at the Sears Catalog Store in Richford operated by Eugene and Kathy Pynduss, who became Ada’s dear friends and a part of the family. Ada taught sewing as a 4-H instructor, she enjoyed painting, reading, bingo and doing crafts. Ada was loved by all who knew her. She was our friend, our confidant, our support when we needed it. She was the care taker for many. Never selfish nor judgmental and she was always there for everyone. Ada we love you and will miss you.

She is survived by a half sister, Hilda (Lumbra) Knoerl of Montpelier; a half brother, Gerald Lumbra of Burlington; her beloved cousins, Erma (McCarty) Stough of Georgia, Paul McCarty of Providence, R.I., and Charles and Ann Lavalla of Hinsdale, N.H. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Frederick B. “Andy” Anderson on Dec. 17, 1980, they were married on Nov. 4, 1946; a half brother, Harold Lumbra; several aunts and uncles including Stella (Lavalla) McCarty of Richford, and Laurence “Jack” Lavalla of Brattleboro.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Rev. Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be next spring in All Saints Cemetery in Richford.

A time of visitation will be held Monday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.

CLARK H. HUBBARD
FRANKLIN - Clark Henry Hubbard, 68, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 8, 2005. He had been recovering from injuries due to a farm accident, from which complications had occurred. His family surrounded him and cared for him during his final days.

He was born in St. Albans, April 1, 1937, the son of the late Thomas S. and Helen (Dunton) Hubbard. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty. Clark and Betty Ladue were married Jan. 31, 1960, in Sheldon.

Clark was a farmer and dealt in cattle and real estate most of his life. He was an active participant in the Town of Franklin where he served for 31 years on the Planning Commission, two years as lister and was a member of the Solid Waste commission since 1980. He also served on the Franklin Cemetery Commission and was a licensed realtor. He was a 1955 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and a member of the Franklin United Church where he served on the church council and recently helped to organize the building of the handicap access entrance. His memberships also included the Cattle Dealers Association, Enosburg Country Club, St. Albans Lodge 1566, BPOE, The Owl Club, National Rifle Association and a proud member of the Republican Party. He belonged to Missisquoi Lodge 9, F & AM, Mt. Sinai Temple 3, AAONMS, the Motor Corps of the Shrine and many other Masonic organizations. He was a man of many interests. He was an excellent cook. He took pleasure in spending time with his horses and dogs. You could often find him at deer camp, fish fries, golfing, and playing pool or cards. He will be missed by his many friends. He enjoyed life and people.

In addition to his wife, Betty, of over 45 years, survivors include three children and their spouses: Ruth and her husband, Kreg Rose of North Berwick, Maine, Clark and Lisa Hubbard of Franklin and William and Ellen Hubbard of Port Henry, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Julie, Samantha and Madalynn Hubbard and Kyle and Samantha Plouffe; brothers-in-law, Brad Magnant and his family of St. Albans, and Raymond and his wife, Elsie Ladue of Newport. He also leaves special friends, Dr. Olin Samson and his wife, Lynn of Franklin and Florida and Norm and Bev Manning of Arizona; and a very special niece, Sheila Lefebure and her husband Luc. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Deborah; and a sister, Marilyn Magnant.

Visitation will be at the Hubbard home, 219 Webster Road (off Hanna Road) in Franklin on Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Franklin United Church. A private interment service will follow in the family lot in Franklin Cemetery. A reception will be held following the service for family and friends in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Clark's memory may be made to either the Franklin United Church or the Franklin Cemetery Association, Franklin Vermont 05457.

The Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans is assisting the family.

LAWRENCE W. KELLEY
ROUSES POINT, N.Y. - Lawrence W. Kelley, 79, of Rouses Point, N.Y. died Dec. 7, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was born in Newport, Vt. on June 3, 1926.

Larry graduated from Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans, Vt. in 1944. He was a World War II veteran serving in Italy as a technician in the 1st Battalion, 12th Regiment, 4th Infantry Division.

He married Judith Macek on May 28, 1949 in Proctor, Vt. He began working at the Railway Express in St. Albans. Beginning in 1951 he worked his way up from an entry level position at the custom brokerage firm, A.N. Deringer, Inc., until he achieved the vice president position. Following his retirement in 1987, he continued as a board director until 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Kelley; and two daughters, Andrea (Robert) Cliffe of Niagara Falls, N.Y. and Meredith Acken of Salt Point, N.Y.; and six grandchildren: Katerie (Brian) Breuer, Ryan, Merrick and Kyle Cliffe, and Alyssa and Christopher Acken. Additionally he is survived by his two sisters, Betty Ann (John) Finn and Sandra (Edward) Des Lauriers; and one brother, Michael Kelley, all of St. Albans, Vt. He was predeceased by his parents; and one brother, Winston "Bud" Kelley.

There are no calling hours. A private Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec.10 at Christ and St. John's Episcopal Church, Champlain, N.Y.

Donations may be made in his name to Christ and St. John's Episcopal Church, Box 240, Champlain, N.Y. 12919; or the St. Albans Historical Museum, Box 722, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements were made through The Clark Funeral Home, Champlain, New York.

LAWRENCE W. KELLEY
ROUSES POINT, N.Y. - Lawrence W. Kelley, 79, of Rouses Point, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. There will be no calling hours. A full obituary will appear in Friday’s newspaper. Arrangements are with M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain, N.Y.

DORIS MAE NEELEY KILLARY
MILTON, Fla. — Doris Killary, 90, of Milton, Fla., died on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2005, at a local care facility.
Doris was born on Jan. 7, 1915, in Waterloo, Quebec, Canada, the youngest of three girls born to James and Beatrice Dimond Neeley, who predeceased her. Doris and her family moved to Vermont in 1923. She grew up and lived in St. Albans and Burlington until 1981, when she retired to Milton with her husband Parker H. Killary, who preceded her in death.

Doris was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church of Milton and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, Burlington Chapter. She was a volunteer at Santa Rosa Medical Center in Milton for two years.

She is survived by son, Ron (Kathy) of Milton, Fla.; grandson Michael (Susan) of Kodiak, AK; granddaughter Beth Killary (Steven Edwards); great-grandson John Patrick Edwards of Brandon, MS; and step great-grandson Brad Trawick (Alicia) of Robertsdale, Ala.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the administration and staff of Santa Rosa Health and Rehabilitation Facility for their care of Doris during her stay. An extra special thanks to Frances, Lisa, Shirley and Catherine for their kindness and loving care.

Services and inurnment will be conducted in St. Albans at a later date. Donnie Sowell Funeral Home of Milton, Fla. is in charge of arrangements.
