CARLTON A. ‘SKIP’ MORSE
BROAD BROOK, Conn. - Carleton A. “Skip” Morse, 75, of Broad Brook, formerly of Windsor and Roxbury, Conn., beloved husband of the late Nancy (Newton) Morse passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, in Windsor Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center with his family by his side. Born in Swanton, Vt., he was the son of the late Clark and Winifred (Adams) Morse.

He loved farming and worked on farms most of his life including OJ Thrall Inc. of Windsor, and Toplands Farm of Roxbury until his retirement in 1999. He was a lifelong avid Yankees, Giants and UCONN womens basketball fan. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, and mowing the yard with his John Deere tractor.

He also had enormous pride in his family. He loved his family dogs, Sable, Murphy, Champ and his special friend, Annie.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Francis Morse of St. Albans, Vt. He leaves behind his children: Steven Morse and his wife, Cindy, of Broad Brook, Wendy Morse and her companion, Pete Sparks of Blandford, Mass., Jill Berger, and her husband, Gary of Farmington, and Bruce Morse and his wife, Cheryl of Windsor; his beloved grandchildren: Kyle Morse and his wife, Sue of Naugatuck, Daniel Morse of Windsor, and Ryan, Christopher, and Kaylin Berger all of Farmington; a brother, Howard Morse and his wife, Esther of St. Albans; his sister, Charlotte Jacobs, and her husband, Lyle of Fairfax, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express the sincerest “thank you” to all the staff at Windsor Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for the great care and support they gave our father and to us, and to Hospice, thank you for your direction and support, though short, it was very much appreciated.

Calling hours in Skip’s memory will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A memorial service will take place Friday, Jan. 6, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at the funeral home. Private burial will take place in Roxbury, Conn.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Windsor Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, 581 Poquonock Ave. Windsor, Conn. 06095, or to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Connecticut VNA, 111 Founders Plaza, 2nd Floor, East Hartford, Conn. 06108.

DONNA MARIE TAYLOR
ALBURG / COLCHESTER - Donna Marie Taylor, 48, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

Donna was born on Dec. 19, 1957, in Burlington, the daughter of Ernest and Alida (Pecor) Quintin.

On June 26, 1976, she married Leslie Taylor in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Colchester. Formerly of Colchester, Donna and Leslie moved to Alburg in 2003.

She had been employed as a Paralegal for the State of Vermont Public Defenders Office for many years. She was an avid New England Patriots fan.

A beloved wife, a wonderful mother, devoted friend, sister, daughter, grandmother, mentor, now an angel. Donna was the heart of our family.

Donna is survived by her husband, Leslie of Alburg; by her children, Crystal Tinker and her husband, Rodney of Milton, Kurtis Taylor and Tara Bellman of Alburg; her grandchildren, Brandan, Evan, Damien, Kelsey and KyLeigh; her mother, Alida Quintin of Colchester; by her brothers and spouses, Ernest “Butch” and Lynn Quintin of Geneva, Fla., Larry and Patty Quintin of Hinesburg, Steve Quintin of Milton, Kevin and Tina Quintin of West Virginia; and her sister, Tammy Ashton and husband, Howard of St. Albans; by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl and Jeanine Taylor of St. Albans; her in-laws, Gary and Diane Taylor of St. Albans, Ronald and Susan Taylor of Burlington, Michael and Judy Taylor of Swanton; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father Ernest in 1984.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

Memorials in Donna’s memory may be made to the Vermont Lung Assoc., 30 Farrell St., South Burlington, Vt. 05403-9987.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

SHIRLEY (BARUP) SLAYTON
CAMBRIDGE - Shirley (Barup) Slayton, 75, of Cambridge passed away on Jan. 1, 2006, while attended by her devoted and loving family.
Born in Belvidere, Vt. on Feb. 21, 1930, Shirley was the daughter of the late Austin and Eva (McNall) Barup. She attended the Belvidere one room schoolhouse and graduated in 1947 from Cambridge High School. On June 24, 1947, she married Wendall Powell Slayton of Belvidere, Vt. and settled in Jeffersonville, where they began raising their family of nine children, later moving to their large farmhouse on the Hogback Road near Waterville.

Shirley’s true passion in life was as a devoted mother. She held a very special place in her heart for each of her nine children, 21 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Shirley’s love was unlimited and unconditional and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
Shirley was the cornerstone of the Slayton family. Her leadership inspired all to unite in strength to face life’s challenges. She taught that life’s obstacles likely occur for good reason, and to always have faith in God’s plan. Above all, to be honest, respectful, and appreciate the lives of others.
Shirley was in her glory when holding a baby in her arms, she had a heavenly touch and the smile on her face was priceless. Strangers quickly became friends, and she touched the hearts of countless people.

Shirley’s home always featured delicious and festive meals, often served for 50 or more immediate family members at holiday gatherings. Her corn chowder and homemade pies are a family tradition, and were always served with lots of hugs, kisses, and laughter. She was also a talented knitter and seamstress crafting items from mittens to formal wedding dresses. Her cherished Christmas stockings will adorn the hearth of many homes for years to come and her quilts will lay upon her family’s beds reminding them each night of her endless love.

For decades Shirley and her late husband Wendall attended their daughter’s softball games, proudly encouraging them as their biggest fans. The same devotion ensured that she never overlooked a family graduation, birthday or anniversary.

Shirley was a member of the Waterville Union Church and the Order of the Eastern Stars, Johnson Chapter 65, and is survived by two sons, six daughters, and their families. They include: Lonnie and wife, Mary of Johnson, their daughters, Danielle (Slayton) and husband, Brandon Currier and their daughters, twins Kristen and Katelyn Slayton Tirrito, and Brianna and Aleah Currier. Jennifer Slayton and her daughter Erica.

Kim and wife, Jill and son, Will of Port Orange, Fla. and son Dylan, Brooke, and Paige Slayton of Hyde Park.

Emma Jean and husband Dale Ingalls of Eden. Their son Eric and wife Linda and children Kyle, Tacoma and Cheyenne Ingalls and Leah and Jade Mayo. Their daughter Jodi and husband Jason Earle and children Jenna, Jacob and Jordan.

Penny Slayton Lynaugh of Essex Junction and her four children, Nicole (Locke) and husband Paul Carney and their children Elise, Jack and Seth. Kylee (Locke) and husband Bart Bezio and their twins Caleb and Meghan, and Lindsay and Tyler Lynaugh.

Dawn Slayton of Morrisville and her children Heidi (Miller) and husband Mike Storm, Amanda, David and Charlotte Miller.

Ann Slayton and Ken Coons of Waterville and her sons Jason and Tony Tuthill, and Tony’s son, Dylan.

Debbie Slayton and Ken Harvey of Hyde Park.

Lisa and husband Keith Glover of Fletcher and their children Devon, Abbey and Austin.

Shirley is also survived by her sister, Evadeen Slayton of Belvidere, who fondly referred to her as “Honey Girl.” She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Barup of Johnson; brother-in-law, Richard Slayton of Connecticut; and sister-in-law, Betty Slayton of Connecticut; two special nephews, Charles “Chappy” Slayton and wife, Sandra of Florida, and Dwight “Chuck” Slayton and wife, Shirley of Belvidere; and other relatives in Vermont, New Hampshire, Florida and California.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband Wendall Powell Slayton in 2000; a son, Wendall “Skip” Slayton II in 1974; and an infant daughter, Lori Slayton in 1964. She was also predeceased by two sisters and four brothers: Emma Richard, Bernice Slayton, Clyde and Claude Barup, Ray Barup and Herbert “Joe” Barup.

Shirley’s late wishes were to especially thank her four “Special Angels, ” her daughter Ann, grandsons Tony and Austin, and her granddaughter Kylee for their support, love and laughter over the last few years, which made her life much brighter.
Visiting hours will be held at A.W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel, on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at the Waterville Union Church, Waterville, Vt. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jan Rathbun officiating. Interment will be in the spring in the family lot in Jeffersonville Village cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hills Christian Camp, c/o Jenene Edwards, Treasurer, Waterville Union Church, 85 Ross Lane, Jeffersonville, Vt.; or to Lamoille Home Health, 54 Farr Ave., Morrisville, Vt. 05661; or Lamoille Cancer Network, P.O. LUCILLE D. DESORMEAUX
SHELBURNE - Lucille D. Desormeaux, 88 of Penny Lane, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, in the Birchwood Terrace Health Care in Burlington following a long illness.

Lucille was born May 17, 1917, in St. Albans, the daughter of David J. and Edith May (Bonyea) Thibault.

Besides being a homemaker, Lucille was employed at the Woolen Mills in Winooski, and later with the Burlington School Department.

On May 26, 1979, she married Marcel Desormeaux in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Shelburne.

Lucille is survived by her husband, Marcel of Shelburne; and her daughter, Lynette Dion of Brattleboro; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; her brother, Charles Thibault and his wife, Evelyn of Swanton; and her sister, Loretta Deso of Colchester; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her dear family friends, Marilyn and Charles Utter of St. George.

She was predeceased by her children: Terry Savage, Beverly Rideout, and Marleen Zdial; her son-in-law, Dave Dion; her brothers, Floyd and Ken; and her brother-in-law, Wilfred Deso.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Leo Bilodeau on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at 11 a.m. in St. Catherine Catholic Church in Shelburne. Burial will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington.

Memorial Contributions may be made in the form of Spiritual Bouquets, for Masses to be celebrated in her memory, in care of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, P.O. Box 70, Shelburne, Vt. 05482.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.

JUNE ‘STATA’ LABOMBARD
ALBURGH - June “Stata” LaBombard, 82, a lifelong resident of the Isle La Motte and Alburgh communities, died peacefully at her home on the lake she loved surrounded by her family.

Born at home in Isle La Motte on June 20, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Botsford) Naylor. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy Champlain, N.Y. in 1939 and received her degree in education from the University of Vermont in 1943. She was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. On Nov. 11, 1942, she married Cyrus Stata who predeceased her on June 21, 1975. On Aug. 11, 1978, she married Harold LaBombard, who died on Sept. 1, 1997.

An educator all her life, June taught in Alburgh, Swanton and Missisquoi Valley Union High Schools and retired after teaching for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Vermont Education Association, a lifetime member of the Vermont Retired Teachers Association, served on the Vermont State School Board Association and was also a member of the honorary teachers sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma. She also served the Franklin-Grand Isle County Courts as a Vermont Guardian Ad Litem.

June served her community on the Board of Village Trustees, Board of Civil Authority, School Board, Library Association, and the Alburgh and Isle La Motte Historical Societies.

She was a member of both St. Luke’s and Holy Trinity Episcopal Churches serving in various leadership roles.

June leaves four children: Stephen Stata and his wife, Carol of Isle La Motte, Molly Stata Comeau and her husband, Joseph of Alburgh, Patty Helfrich of Alburgh and Susan Bacon and her husband, Charles of Huntington. She was predeceased by a son, Dick Stata on May 28, 1988. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Shannon Stata and fiancé, Joel English of Isle La Motte, Rachael Comeau and husband, Jeremy Bull of Burlington, Vaughn Comeau and wife, Sara of Baltimore, Md., Andy Comeau and wife, Barbara of Cumming, Ga., Tara Couture and husband, Darcy of Alburgh, Cush Helfrich and fiancée, Tracy Mason of Burlington, Travis Bacon of Huntington, Joshua Bacon and Ashley Palmer of Frisco, N.C., Heather Bacon and Jeremy Gatto of San Diego, Calif., Jeremy Bacon and Amelia Ray of Kihei, Maui, Sarah Bacon of Huntington, Chad, Trever, and “almost granddaughter” Jessica Ewald and their mother, Linda Ewald all of Peru, N.Y.; great-grandchildren: Jaedyn Stata, Tyler Trayah, Rebecca Bull, Lucas Bull, Emma Comeau, Paige Comeau, Kane Couture and an “eagerly expected Bacon grandchild in May.” She also leaves special cousins, Martha Bohannon and Suellen Nevue; her uncle, Harold Naylor; as well as her former son-in-law, Cush Helfrich of Alburgh.

A Eucharistic Service will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at 1 p.m. from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 38 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Right Reverend Thomas Ely, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont will be the celebrant. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow the service in the parish hall. Interment will take place later in the Stata family lot in Bush Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Thursday evening, Jan. 5, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in June’s memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association - Hospice, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446.

MARILYN KING LeCLAIR
ST. ALBANS - Marilyn King LeClair, 75, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at her home, with her family at her side, following a brief illness. She was born in St. Albans, Vt. on May 18, 1930, the daughter of the late Raymond C. and Hazel (Culver) King. On Oct. 17, 1953, in St. Mary’s Church in St. Albans, she married Richard P. LeClair, who predeceased her on Dec. 7, 2004.

She was a cook for over 20 years at the St. Albans Town School, was a member of the “Up & Coming” Home Demonstration Group, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a leader in the “Juniorettes” and was very active in the sports in which her children and grandchildren participated.

Marilyn is survived by her seven children and their spouses: David and Melody LeClair of Swanton, Julie and John Smith of St. Albans, Kim and Tom Chevalier of Swanton, Mark and Susan LeClair of Fairfax, Lisa and Peter Coolum of Fairfax, Christopher and Stephanie LeClair of Fairfax, and Jennifer and Chris Trayah of Fairfax; her sisters: Roberta K. Harmon of St.

Albans, Emily Ward and her husband, Walter, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Joyce Jenkins and her husband, Allen of St. Albans; a brother and his wife, Lawrence and Grace King of St. Albans Bay; 16 grandchildren: Jesse LeClair, Luke LeClair and his wife, Gina, Erin and Eric Smith, Jeremy, Kyle, Lisa and Angela Chevalier, Sarah and Christine LeClair, Ryan and Samantha Coolum, Haley and Hillary LeClair, and Kyle and Lauren Trayah; two great-grandsons: Cole LaFar and Cooper Shea; her pet dog, “Molly;” and many nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to acknowledge and thank her brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Butch” and Bev LeClair for all that they have done for Marilyn over the years.

Funeral services will held on Thursday, March 2, 2006, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Church Street. Interment will be in the family lot at Holy Cross Cemetery. Marilyn’s family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Vermont, 75 Talcott Road, Williston, Vt. 05495; or to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

REVEREND EDWARD FOLSOM MOORE
BURLINGTON - Reverend Edward Folsom Moore died on Feb. 25, 2006.

He was born Nov. 7, 1927, in Plymouth, Vt., the only son of Raymond and Margaret Vance Folsom Moore. He graduated from Black River High School in Ludlow in 1946 and the University of Vermont in 1950.

He served in Korea with the 40th Division in 1950-52. He was baptized in Yamagata, Japan in 1951 and later he studied for the priesthood at St. Francis Seminary in Loretto, Pa. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 23, 1959, by Bishop Robert F. Joyce. He served six years at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington, serving also as chaplain at the Naval Reserve Station, three years at St. Peter's parish in Vergennes, serving also as chaplain at the Weeks School, and three years as chaplain at the Vermont State Prison in Windsor. He was pastor of St. Mary's parish in Cambridge and St. John's Parish in Johnson for two years, chaplain at the Medical Center of Vermont for four years, pastor of Our Lady of Grace parish in Colchester for nine years, Holy Angels parish in St. Albans for six years, and St. Pius X parish in Essex Center for five years.

He retired in 1997 and has spent summers in Stowe and winters in Palm Beach, Fla.

Father Moore is survived by three cousins: Dorothy and her husband, Joseph Ballard of Sutton, Mass., Ruth and her husband, Larry VanBenthuysen of Wells River, Vt., and Nancy and her husband, Ellis Russell of Sutton, Mass. Also surviving are several second cousins.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 2, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Winooski with visiting hours from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. Bishop Salvatore Matano will be the principal celebrant and the homilist will be Reverend Peter Routhier. His burial will be in the spring in Plymouth, Vt.

Arrangements are in the care of Ready Funeral & Cremation Service, Burlington.

ROBERT GIRARD
ST. ALBANS - Funeral services were held for Mr. Robert Girard on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Father Maurice Roy, pastor of Holy Angels Church, officiated.

The American flag was presented to his son, Stephen Girard. Prayers of Committal were read by Father Roy.

Interment will be held in the spring in the Girard family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Swanton.
