MARY J. BOISSONEAULT
ST. ALBANS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Mary Jean Boissoneault, Friday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy was the celebrant. Father was assisted by Mar’s brother-in-law, Deacon Steve Ratte and Deacon Duane Langlois. Altar servers were Normand Blouin and Robert Brodeur. Mary’s dear friend, Charlene Bourdeau, read the Holy Scripture Lessons. Deacon Ratte proclaimed the Most Holy Gospel.

Offertory gifts were brought to the altar by grandchildren, Erica and Jordan Lupien. Deacon Langlois was the homilist. Fond remembrance were shared by sister, Kathy Considine, and a poem in Mary’s memory read by brother-in-law Bill Considine. Holy Angels formal choir, under the direction of Mary Jo Gillilan, sang the Mass, including Mary’s favorite, “Mother Beloved.” Soloist was her niece, Serena Magnan.

Among the large attendance were representatives of the Red Had Ladies Society, Morning Glory Singers, Grampas and Grammas Singing Group, Vermont House of Representatives and Senate, Franklin County Home Health Association, St. Albans Town, City and Fairfax town officers, fire departments from St. Albans City, Town, Georgia and Fairfax, The Abbey Group, Franklin County Home Health Agency, Handy’s Auto Dealerships, Real Estate offices of S.R. Smith, Joe Montcalm, Lang Associates and Paul Poquette, K.D.J. Hair Design, Esden Florist, Creative Memories Scrapbooking, Beverage Mart, Grice Brook, Kevin Smith Sports Connection, Sticks & Stuff, Bruley & Bruley Construction, Country Pantry, J&L Texaco, Warner’s Snack Bar, Charbonneau Construction, Kittell, Branagan and Sargent, Law Office of John Eggleston, Office of the State’s Attorney, Rene Fournier Farm Equipment, Bourdeau Brothers, Mark Tourville Engine Repair and Sales, Clarence Brown, Inc., Guy’s Unisex, Murphy Auto Repair, Tom Hungerford Insurance, S.B. Collins, Inc., Burleson Foundations, St. Albans Co-operative Creamery, many area dairy farmers including Boissoneault, Magnan, Barkyoumb and Howrigan Farms.

Bearers were Mary’s brothers, Jim Magnan, John Magnan, Gerald Magnan, Terrance Magnan; and dear friends, Toby Duculon and Douglas Wolfe.

Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy, Deacon Ratte and Deacon Langlois, interment was in the Boissoneault family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

The Ladies of St. Anne hosted a luncheon for Mary’s family and friends in Holy Angels Parish Center.

Thursday afternoon, Father Roy held a Christian Wake Service and Deacon Ratte conducted a prayer service Friday morning, with Mary’s family and friends, in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

REGINA ANSTEY
ST. ALBANS - Funeral services were held for Mrs. Regina “Jean” Anstey on Monday at 2 p.m. in Church of the Rock. Pastor Roland Ludlam officiated. Along with Pastor Ludlam, Jean’s nephew, Bill Burnham, shared many fond memories with the large congregation in attendant. Mary Jo Gillilan was the musician and soloist. Many members of the Church of the Rock family attended.

Bearers were her grandsons, Robert Simpson II, Christopher Simpson, Luke Wells, Ronald Hamel, Matthew Hamel and T.J. Daniels.

Following Prayers of Committal by Pastor Ludlam, interment was in the Anstey/Roberts family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Swanton. At the graveside, Jean’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren placed roses on their grandmother’s casket.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

ERIC W. SAMAL
CAMBRIDGE - Eric William Samal, 20, passed away following an automobile accident late Monday evening, Feb. 20, 2006, in Cambridge, Vt. Eric was born Feb. 15, 1986, in Morrisville, Vt., son of William and Laurie (Hardt) Samal. Eric graduated from Lamoille Union High School class of 2004. He was a snowboard instructor with “SSU” at Smugglers Notch Resort.

Eric had a special gift for working with children. He combined that gift with his passion for snowboarding by instilling that same passion in the children he taught. The respect he gained on the mountain transcended all that he did, including his other passion, Texas Hold ‘Em. On the surface, Eric was a quiet individual, but once you scratched that surface, you came to appreciate his politeness, sensitivity, and wacky sense of humor. Anyone who knew Eric loved and cherished him. He will be deeply missed. We all love you Eric.

He is survived by his father, William Samal of Belvidere; his mother, Laurie (Hardt) Samal of Johnson; a brother, Christopher Samal of Belvidere; a sister, Katherine Samal of Johnson; maternal grandmother, Jane Hardt of New Hampshire; paternal grandmother, Frances Samal of Connecticut; his aunts and uncles: Susan Hardt, Sarah Clarke, Serge Samal, Peter Samal, Bee Batch; great-uncle, Michael Samal; great-aunt, Olga Goncharenko; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Albert Hardt, and his paternal grandfather, William Samal, Sr.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at the Lamoille Union High School, Hyde Park, Vt. on March 4, 2006 at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Inurnment will be at the connivance of the family.

WILLIAM PAIGE BALENTINE, SR.
MAQUAM SHORE, SWANTON - William Paige Balentine Sr., 52, a resident of the Swanton area for more than 20 years died Friday evening, Feb. 24, 2006, in his home on Maquam Shore.

Born in California on Oct. 18, 1953, he was the son of the late Oscar and Betty (Howrigan) Balentine. He graduated from Fresno College in California and on March 22nd of last year was married to the former Carolyn Thayer, who survives him.

Bill faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. Following his discharge from active service and his graduation from college he became self employed in the area as a general contractor. He also served several years as a board member on the Abenaki Tribal Council.

Besides his wife Carolyn of Maquam Shore, Bill leaves three children: William and Alethia of Middletown, Conn., and Ryan of Chicago, Ill.; and four grandchildren. Other surviving relatives include Jesse McQuade of Middletown, Conn. and James Martin of Alburgh, as well as many members of the Howrigan family. He also leaves many friends including a very special friend, Nicky.

Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in the family lot in Bakersfield.

Gifts in Bill’s memory may be made to the family in care of Carolyn Thayer, 69 Maquam Shore Road, Swanton 05488.

Arrangements have been under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton.

MARY E. NICHOLS
ST. ALBANS - Mary Esther Nichols was called home to be with her Lord and Maker on Feb. 24, 2006. She was born on April 14, 1923, in Providence, R.I. She was the daughter of Raymond and Mildred E. Garvey (Walsh). Mary was schooled in Philadelphia, where her academic life brought the love of Dance, Music and the Arts.

She leaves her sons: Mark, Steve, and Keith; along with her five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was pre-deceased by her husband, William J. Nichols in 1986. She leaves her siblings: Raymond. William, and Mildred. Mary was most commonly known as "Bunny." She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

She enjoyed the outdoors and the ocean. During her final days, she resided at Haven Healthcare in St. Albans. Our family would like to thank the nursing staff at Haven Healthcare for their constant compassionate support to our mother during her stay.

There will be no public calling hours. Her life will be celebrated at a private family service at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Rutland, Vt. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to your charity of choice in honor of Mary E. Nichols.

MARION E. RICHARD
WEST SWANTON - Marion E. Richard, age 67, passed to the other side to rest with her longtime companion and soulmate Roy Vincelette, on Saturday morning, Feb. 25, 2006, from the home of her daughter Jennie Knowles, in Alburg, with her loving family at her bedside. Roy predeceased her in May of 2005.

Marion was born Sept. 11, 1938, in Braintree, daughter of the late Clinton and Elizabeth (Young) LaPlante. Marion would like to be remembered by living life to the fullest. She loved Texas Hold-em and ice fishing with her boys. She will be missed at card games, in the area by all her poker friends. Think of mom and smile big. Her caring family would like to thank all the staff at Northwestern Medical Center, her doctors Michael Corrigan, M.D., Stephen Payne, M.D., Christian Thomas, M.D., and her nurse Shelly, for all their care and for being someone that touched our mom in their own special ways. We are also grateful to all those who loved and shared her in her life.

Marion is survived by her eight loving children, their spouses and companions: Jenny Knowles and Chad Cameron, Cindy LaPlante and Kyle Ashford, Rose Rich and Tim Boudreau, Rena and Chuck Gomez, Bobby Richard (twin of Rena), Tammy Hill and Gater Lampman, Nancy Richard and Randy Kennison, Joe Richard and Kim Savard; sons-in-law: Bruce Rich, Scott Knowles and Scott Hill; four sisters: Jerline Wilber, Melba LaPlante, Edna Austin, Bernice Labrecque; two brothers, Douglas LaPlante, Harold LaPlante; 17 grandchildren, a great-grandson (and expecting another soon); many nieces, nephews and a close friend, Clovis Gagner.

A time of sharing will be held on Thursday evening, March 9, 2006, at 7 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel, 86 South Main St., St. Albans.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1460, Williston, Vt. 05495.

WINFIELD D. MARTIN
ALBURGH - Mr. Winfield D. Martin, 91, a lifelong resident of the Alburgh community, died early Saturday morning, Feb. 25, 2006, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City with family at his side.

Born in Alburgh on Jan. 24, 1915, he was the son of the late Lewis and Eugenie (Carle) Martin. On Sept. 13, 1947, he was married to the former Elizabeth H. “Betty” Honsinger who predeceased him on July 22, 2000.

He attended Alburgh schools and faithfully served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps, was a Prisoner of War and a longtime active member of the American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 in Alburgh. Following his military discharge he worked as an operating engineer on various heavy equipment. He was also a member of the Isle La Motte United Methodist Church, as well as Past Master of Columbus Lodge 11 F. &A.M., Mt. Sinai 3 Shriners and Columbia Chapter 76 Order of the Eastern Star.

Winfield leaves two daughters: Judith of Alburgh, and Karen and her husband, Peter Bilenki of Ontario; three sons and their wives: Richard and Cheryl of Hinesburg, Ted and Jean of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and David and Linda of Essex Junction; a brother, Norman of Washington State; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Winfield was predeceased by a brother Morgan in 1995; and a sister Margaret Pike in 2005.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend and Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE together will officiate. Interment with full military honors will take place in the spring at the Martin family lot in Bush Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Tuesday evening, Feb. 28, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic Ritualistic Service will be exemplified at 8 p.m. by members of the Columbus Lodge 11 F. &A.M.

Gifts in Winfield’s memory may be made to the Alburgh Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue, 4 Firehouse Road, Alburgh 05440; or to the Alburgh Public Library, P.O. Box 344, Alburgh 05440.

ROBERT EVERETT SWANSON
ESSEX JUNCTION - Robert Everett Swanson of Essex Junction died Feb. 26, at home after an 18-month battle with cancer. He was born in Brockton, Mass on May 9, 1940, the second child of Elisha and Mary Swanson.

He attended school in Brockton, graduating from Brockton High School in 1958. Following his graduation, Bob joined the Army and proudly served his country for four years. Following his discharge he worked for Vulcan Corp. in Brockton before moving to Texas in 1977.

On April 19, 1980, he married Mary-Kay Bouthillier in Arlington, Texas. In 1987 they relocated to Vermont to be closer to their families. He worked as a bookkeeper until he retired. After his retirement, Bob tended bar at VFW Post 6689 and the Backstage Pub.

Bob was an avid Red Sox Fan. And to him, there was no football team like the Dallas Cowboys. He loved to read and was always learning. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Burlington, the Regular Veterans Association, and was a two-term governor of the Moose Lodge in Winooski.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary-Kay of Essex; his three children: Kellen McInerney of Essex, David Swanson of Boston, and Annemarie Polm of Tower City, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Erin of Tower City, Pa. He is also survived by his four siblings: Elizabeth Swanson of Brockton, William Swanson of East Bridgewater, Catherine Froio of Brockton, and Margaret Swanson of Champaign, Ill.; his nephew, Andrew Froio of Brockton; and his nieces, Danielle Swanson of Taunton and Michelle Carroll of Cape Coral, Fla.; and his three great-nieces, Chelsea, Kaitlin and Autumn. He was predeceased by his parents, Elisha and Mary Swanson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 2, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church on West Street in Essex Junction at 11 a.m. Visiting hours are 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, at the Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home at 9 Pleasant St. in Essex Junction.

His family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to VNA Hospice, 1100 Prim Road, Suite 1, Colchester, Vt. 05446.
MARVIN BELROSE
LAND O’LAKES, Fla. / SWANTON, Vt. - Marvin Belrose, (March 30, 1939 - Feb. 19, 2006), age 66 of Land O’Lakes, Fla. and formerly of Swanton, Vt., died suddenly on the morning of Feb. 19, 2006, after surgery complications. He was a retired manager, sales executive and sports massage therapist.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father Louis Charles Belrose, mother Margaret Longe Belrose and son Michael Belrose.

He is survived by his loving wife Peggy; three sons: Robert of Ellington, Conn., Thomas of Waterville, and Mark of Medford, Ore.; two step-sons, Jeremy Pfau of Portsmouth, Ohio and Danny Bourdeau of Washington State; a step-daughter, Tammy Pfau of Upper Arlington, Ohio. He is also survived by one brother, and two sisters: Gary Belrose and Carolyn Callan of Swanton, and Carol Concannon of Milton; three aunts: Catherine Medor of Swanton, Helen Renault of Florida and Gwen Belrose of Swanton; and an uncle, Lawrence Bellrose of Swanton; seven grandchildren; and hundreds of friends who loved and will miss him.

Marvin was a Harley rider, enjoyed camping, and was an avid Yankees fan. He was a baseball star at Swanton High School during his school years. He had been a member of both the U.S. Army and Air Force.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Belrose family lot in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers gifts in Marvin’s memory be made to the Disabled American Veterans Fund, in care of the VAM Regional Office, 215 North Main St., White River Junction, Vt. 05009.

REGINA N. ANSTEY
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Regina M. “Jean” Anstey, age 84, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, in the Burlington Rehab Center, following an extended illness with heart complications. She was born in Swanton, July 2, 1921, daughter of the late Joseph and Rosina (Savoy) Roberts.

In her younger years she was employed at General Electric and later became a nurses aide for Holiday House Nursing Home. Jean was a member of the Church of the Rock and was an avid card player. She adored her feline friend “Molly.”

She was married to Thomas Anstey who died Nov. 11, 1991.

Jean is survived by her daughters: Patricia and her husband, Brian Wells of Colchester, Star Lavoie of North Carolina; daughter-in-law Sandra Simpson of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren: Robert and his wife, Lisa Simpson, Robin Simpson and companion, Mark Varin, Julie Simpson and companion, Casey Burdeau, Dina Quinneville and companion, Jay Menard, Renee and her husband, Rod Threet, Christopher and his wife, Dorothy Simpson, Kellie Quinneville, Ronald and his wife, Shannon Hamel, Matthew Hamel and his fiancé, Sandra, Luke Wells and his companion, Jess; great-grandchildren: Alex, T. J., Lauren, Cori-Ann, Adrianna, Dylan, Zack, Marisa, Cameron, Dearia, Ryan, Joel and Brittany; a great-great-grandson, Cole; sisters and brothers and their spouses: Rosina and William Burnham of Greenfield, Mass., James and Norma Roberts of Sheldon, Rita and Tom Koledo of Springfield; sister-in-law, Shirley Anstey of Sheldon; a special friend, Cindy Bailey; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and her husband, Jean was predeceased by her son, Robert Simpson in 1998; and her great-granddaughter, Kelsie Spense in 2002.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. in Church of the Rock, Fairfax Road, St. Albans. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in the Anstey family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Swanton.
