MARJORIE (MARNE) ERWIN MANCHESTER
CAMBRIDGE - Services for Marjorie (Marne) Erwin Machester, who passed away on Feb. 17, 2006, were held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Lamoille Valley Church of the Nazarene. A longtime family friend, the Reverend Arthur Hughes officiated, assisted by the Reverends James Burlingame and Allen Lamos.

Special music was provided by Marjorie’s daughter and son-in-law, Rhoda and Dale Mingledorff, and her grandchildren. Remembrances were shared by several family members and friends.

In attendance were representatives of Manchester Lumber Company, Inc., Manchester Dairy Farm, Waterville, Johnson, West Topsham, St. Albans, Burlington/Williston, North Haverhill, N.H., and Londonderry, N.H., Churches of the Nazarene, Waterville Union Church, St. John the Apostle Church, Cambridge, Johnson, and Waterville town offices, Parker & Stearns, Manosh Hardwoods, Vermont Legislature, News & Citizens, and former classmates and students.

Casketbearers, all grandsons, were: John Clinger, Henry Kirk Manchester, Capt. Alan Mingledorff, Donald Hook, Jeremy Manchester, Christopher Manchester, and Sgt. Andrew Mingledorff.

Spring interment will be in the Manchester family lot at Mountain View

Cemetery in Waterville.

ROBERT GUILD SALSBURY, SR.
SOUTH HERO - Robert Guild Salsbury Sr., 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Feb.22, 2006, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Bob was born in Grand Rapids, Mich. on March 25, 1922, the son of Homer A. and Georgia (Guild) Salsbury.

At the age of 18, Bob graduated from Grand Rapids Junior College. He earned his BA in Education from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Mich. in 1950, an MA in Mathematics at the University of Michigan in 1960 and an MS in Electrical Engineering at the University of Vermont in 1975.

Throughout his life, Bob pursued a variety of different career opportunities. He worked in Midland, Mich. for Dow Chemical, taught radio to Air Force recruits in Chicago and worked for the Lear engineering testing lab in Piqua, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radio technician which included service on a submarine off the Atlantic coast. After the war he worked at the television and radio station, WOOD, in Grand Rapids, Mich. at night while teaching math at Central High School during the day. He became a computer programmer with IBM in Endicott, N.Y. and worked at the Willow Run Research Lab at the University of Michigan. He later rejoined IBM where he was employed for 25 years, retiring in 1984.

For over 60 years, Bob belonged to a Masonic Order. He was Past Master of Isle of Patmos 17 and served as secretary for several years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Mt. Sinai Temple 3 Mystic Shrine. As a member of South Hero Congregational Church, he served in many capacities including trustee, deacon and choir member. He was also a Hospice volunteer.

Bob took many vacations with his family all over the world. He enjoyed singing and since childhood sang in church choirs. Solving crossword puzzles was challenging to him. Another favorite pastime was sailing his boat from the South Hero lakefront home that he and Elaine remodeled after they married in 1979.

Bob is survived by his wife, Elaine (Austin White) Salsbury. He is also survived by his children and their spouses: Karen Salsbury of Saline, MI, Kent (and Kathy) Salsbury of Syracuse, N.Y., Robert (and Jacqueline) Salsbury Jr. of Rochester, N.Y., Linda (and Bradley) Jacobs of Columbia, Mo.; stepchildren: Debra (and Ronald) Thompson of South Hero, Vt., Robert (and Joan) White of Underhill, Vt.; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; several cousins; and his loving dog, Snowy.

He was predeceased by his sister Ione (Salsbury) Woldring; his son, Ward; his first wife, Jeanne (Welch), in 1972; his second wife, Sally (Gross Meister); and his granddaughter, Sloane Staples.

Elaine extends her heartfelt thanks to family, friends, VNA Hospice team and Dr. Zail Berry for their care, support and love throughout Bob’s last journey.

A Memorial Service including a Masonic service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at the South Hero Congregational Church on South Street with reception following in the Fellowship Hall. Visiting hours will be 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at the church.

HELEN A. MERCURE
Funeral services for Helen A. Mercure, who passed away on Feb. 16, 2006, were held on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Leonidas B. Laroche celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Assisting at the altar was the Reverend Mr. Jack Rixon, Deacon of St.. Mary’s Parish. Ministers of the Altar were Robert LeClair and John Manahan. Music was by organist and vocalist, Mary Jo Gillilan.

The White Funeral Pall was placed on Helen’s casket by her two children and their spouses: Jim & Fern Mercure and Jean & Ron Guilmette. The Holy Scriptures were proclaimed by her sister, Sister Beatrice Couture, RSM. The Eucharistic gifts were presented at the altar by her granddaughters, Sarah Guilmette and Susan Slysz. Words of remembrance were spoken by Helen’s granddaughter, Susan Slysz.

In attendance and forming a Guard of Honor were representatives of the Leader Evaporator Company. Also in attendance was a delegation from the Sisters of Mercy in Burlington, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the United States Postal Service.

Casket bearers were Sarah Guilmette, Chris Guilmette, Susan and Bobby Slysz.

Following Prayers of Committal by Father Laroche, interment was in the Mercure family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Assisting Helen’s family was the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.

MARY J. BOISSONEAULT
ST. ALBANS BAY - Mrs. Mary J. Boissoneault, age 64, died Monday evening, Feb. 20, 2006, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in St. Albans, Dec. 9, 1941, daughter of the late Euclide and Florence (Barkyoumb) Magnan.

Her natural, gentle loving started at home with her brothers and sisters and eventually led her to a nursing career. On Aug. 17, 1963, she married George Boissoneault and from then on dedicated her life to caring for family, friends and neighbors. George and Mary operated large dairy farms in Fairfax and later in St. Albans Bay. Mary was also instrumental in many other endeavors, including a flair to remodel and decorate.

Along with the unconditional love for her family and friends was her passion for music. She shared her talent as a member of Holy Angels Choir, Morning Glories, Grammas and Grandpas, and any other opportunity she had to express herself through song.

Mary loved being with her family whether it was sharing time at camp, vacations, family gatherings or just having them around. She was always the first to volunteer her time and many talents. She spent many hours as a volunteer counselor for the Family Center and Parents Anonymous. Because of her creative ability, Mary took on many family and community projects. She was sought out by many and was always there. She opened her home to everyone and made them feel welcome.

Besides her husband, George, of over 42 years, Mary is survived by her five children; daughters Cheryl Lupien and her special friend, Scott Moreau, and Michele and her husband, Michael Bruso, all of Fairfax; sons Jeff and his wife, Tammy Boissoneault of St. Albans Bay, Jason Boissoneault and his special friend, Justine Kinerson of Fairfax, and Joshua Boissoneault and his special friend, Christian Deso of St. Albans Bay; her pride and joy, eight grandchildren, Erica, Jordan and Jacob Lupien, Amilia Rothwell, Ben and Carl Bruso, Cody and Mynah Boissoneault; her seven brothers and sisters and their spouses, Barbara and Larry Young, Donna and Roger Meunier, James Magnan all of Fairfax, John and Elaine Magnan of St. Albans, Gerald and Debra Magnan of Chateaugay, N. Y., Terrance and Joanne Magnan of Sheldon, Katherine and William Considine of Georgia; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Maria, July 27, 1986; her mother Florence, March 10, 2005; and her father Euclide, June 4, 1994.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in the Boissoneault family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Maria Boissoneault Scholarship Fund, in care of Cheryl Lupien, P. 0. Box 59, Cambridge, Vt. 05444. An online condolence book has been established for Mary’s family at the Brady & Levesque Web site: www.bnlfh.com.

ELIZABETH E. CROSS
MILTON - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father John Feltz, on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Catholic Church in Milton. Music and vocal selections were by Mary Jo Gillilan.

Offertory gifts were presented by grand-daughter and grandson-in-law, Kathy and Norman L’Esperance. In attendance were a wealth of friends and relatives. Burial followed in St. Ann’s Cemetery with Father Feltz offering committal prayers.

Bearers were grandchildren Harvey Cross Jr., Jason L’Esperance, and Norman L’Esperance, and nieces and nephew Shirley Panton, Sandra Garrett and Ronald Blow.

Arrangements were by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton

JOHN S. ‘JACK’ HAMBLETT, SR.
MILTON — John S. “Jack” Hamblett Sr., 72 of Villemaire Lane, died Thursday morning with his family by his side on Feb. 16, 2006, at the Starr Farm Nursing Facility in Burlington following a long illness.

Jack was born April 2, 1933, in Brockton, Mass., the son of the late George and Dorothy McKeever Hamblett. He graduated from Msgr. Coyle High School in Brockton, Mass. Upon graduation, Jack enlisted into the United States Coast Guard, where he served honorably for four years. His tour was highlighted by being a member of Adm. Byrd’s expedition, Operation Deep Freeze, to the North and South Pole. He completed his enlistment and enrolled in St. Michael’s College. He was a member of the Hialea, Fla. Police Department and then became an Iron worker in the construction industry for over 30 years.

On Aug. 24, 1956, he married the former Barbara Ward in Holy Family Catholic Church in Essex Junction.

An avid sports fan, he supported his children’s’ endeavors and careers at Milton Jr. and Sr. High School and Norwich University. He was a proud MHS Booster Club member.

He was an active community member and member of the Local Eagles Aerie 4218 in Milton, where he held various positions.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Barb of Milton and their children, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Donald Hamblett and his wife Judy of Colorado Springs, Colo. and their children, Connor and Cameron; Stephen Hamblett and his wife, Joanne of Georgia and their children, Cory and Kristi; Patricia Hulbert and her husband, Tom of Colchester and their children, Tyler, Nicholas, Kara and Alex; Anthony Hamblett of Milton and his children, Cagney, Courtney and Austin; Evelyn Cronan and her husband, Don of Milton and their daughter, Dempsey, who was Jack’s special Angel; and Robbie Hamblett and his wife, Stacey of Colchester and their children, Katie, Jensen and Tate. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Hamblett and his wife, Patricia of Natick, Mass. and Gregory Hamblett and his wife, Joanne of Brockton, Mass.; his sister, Jane Caterina and her husband, Vincent of Brewster, N.Y.; and brother-in-laws, Fred Ward and Robert Ward, both of Essex Junction.

He was predeceased by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, George and Helen Ward; his brother, Donald at birth; brother-in-law, Bernard Ward; sister-in-law, Shirley Ward; and grandson, Joshua Hamblett.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Catholic Church Main Street in Milton. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dave Benoit Scholarship Fund, c/o Fraternal Order Eagle, Aerie 4218, 42 Center Drive, Milton, Vt. 05468; or to Camp Ta Kum Ta, P.O. Box 576, Waterbury, Vt. 05676.

Jack’s family would like to give special thanks to Bob Gordon for taking care of Dad, to Peter Gingras for all the years at deer camp. To Starr Farm Nursing Home Chittenden Wing Staff and a special thank you to Dr. Plante.

Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with prayers being offered by Father Feltz at 3:45 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home Route 7 in Milton.

MARJORIE (MARNE) ERWIN MANCHESTER
CAMBRIDGE - Marjorie (Marne) Erwin Manchester died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Cambridge, Vt. Feb. 17, 2006, after a long and blessed life. She was born Sept. 21, 1916, in Waterville, Vt., the oldest daughter of Archie and Lucy (Patterson) Erwin. On March 30, 1935, she married R. Henry Manchester of Johnson.

Marjorie attended Waterville Elementary School, Cambridge High School, and graduated from Richmond High School, class of 1933. She graduated from Johnson Normal School in 1935, did her student teaching in Eden and in the Smiley School in Cambridge, and taught at the Waterville Locke School.

She served in many different capacities in the Waterville Church of the Nazarene: Sunday School teacher, board member and missionary treasurer for many years. Marjorie was on the Waterville School Board several years and was active in the Waterville Community Club, participating in dramas in the 1950's. She was currently on the Mountain View Cemetery Executive Board. Together, Marjorie and her husband Henry founded and operated Manchester Lumber both in Waterville and Johnson. With him she also taught Dale Carnegie courses and was active in the Republican Party at town, county, and state levels, attending three national conventions. Marjorie was an avid reader and meticulous housekeeper. She was much admired and beloved by her family who will sorely miss her.

She was predeceased by her husband, former Lamoille County Senator R. Henry Manchester; and her daughter, Carolyn Hover.

She is survived by six children and their spouses: Merilyn (and Maurice) Clinger of Waterville, Alan (and Christine) Manchester of Johnson, Jean (and Richard) Hook of Hudson, N.H., Rhoda (and Dale) Mingledorff of Johnson, George (and Brenda) Manchester of Linden, Pa., and Carroll John (and Sharon) Manchester of Cambridge, and a son-in-law, Richard Hover of Jeffersonville. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Arlene (and Gregory) Griffin of Waterville, Mary Johnson of Braintree, Mass., Elinor Waterman of Derry, N.H., and Lois (and Leslie) Williams of Gloucester, Mass.; her brother, Charles (and Shirley) Bennett of East Weymouth, Mass.; her sister-in-law, Emma Manchester Davis of Waterville; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Deborah Richter and Lamoille Home Health and Hospice, especially Georgiana Carr and Susan Wisehart.

Visiting hours will be held at the Lamoille Valley Church of the Nazarene at 565 Route 15, in Johnson, today, Feb. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be there Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Arthur Hughes officiating, assisted by Rev. James Burlingame, pastor of the Waterville Church of the Nazarene. Spring interment will be in the family lot at Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie’s memory may be given to Ithiel Falls Camp Meeting in care of Tennyson Doane, 2220 VT Rte. 108S, East Fairfield, Vt. 05448.

ROBERT R. GIRARD
ST. ALBANS - Robert R. Girard, age 63, died early Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 2006, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care. Robert was born in Swanton, May 22, 1942, son of the late Bernard and Adrienne (Poulin) Girard.

He served in the Vermont National Guard and the Armor Division of the First U.S. Army, for over five years. He was employed at I.B.M. in Essex Junction, until his retirement in 1996. He continued as a temporary employee of I.B.M. for several years. Bob enjoyed hunting, family barbeques and had an extensive figurine collection of frogs.

Oct. 16, 1965, he married Muriel Eberhardt. His survives include his wife, Muriel, of over 40 years; his daughter, Michelle and her husband, John Shedd of Tampa, Fla.; his son, Stephen Girard of Highgate Springs; two grandchildren, Jordan Shedd and Lauren Shedd, both of Tampa, Fla.; his brother, Marcel and his wife, Diane Girard of St. Albans; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. There will be no public visiting hours. Interment will be next spring in the Girard family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Swanton.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 485, Williston, Vt. 05495.
