ROBERT FLOYD BARROWS
MILTON - Robert Floyd Barrows, 82, died peacefully at his home on Cherry Street, Thursday, April 20, 2006 following a long illness.

Bob was born on June 26, 1923 in Milton, the son of Floyd and Isabelle (Goodwin) Barrows.

On June 26, 1945, Bob married Ruth Adams in Burlington. Bob was raised on a dairy farm. For over 37 years he and Ruth managed and operated a farm on East Road in Milton.

In addition to his wife Ruth, Bob is survived by his children: Brian Barrows and his wife, Nancy of Fairfax, Bruce Barrows and his wife, Linda of Georgia, and Kathy Barrows of Cohoes, N.Y.; by five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Ben Barrows and his wife, Eleanor; his sister, Paula Wilcox and her husband, Larry; his sister-in-law, Ila Barrows; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers: Eldon, Donald, Wayne, James, and Keith; and his sisters: Nancy, Mildred and Janice.

At Bob’s request, there will not be any visiting hours or funeral service. His remains will be scattered over his favorite hunting grounds on Georgia Mountain.

Arrangements were by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

MADELYN CAHILL KEENAN
Madelyn Cahill Keenan of St. Albans died April 19, 2006, with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of the Hon. Roland E. Keenan, who was former Mayor and State Representative of St. Albans and Franklin County Sheriff. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage.

She was the daughter of the late John T. and Katherine McNamara Cahill, born Dec. 8, 1912, in Island Pond, Vt.

She is survived by two daughters: Representative Kathleen Keenan of St. Albans and Maureen Linsenmeir and her husband, Mark, of Sarasota, Fla.; and her brother, Harold Cahill of Island Pond; 11 grandchildren: Timothy Camisa, Kevin Camisa and his fiancé Sarah, of Colchester, Anne Venturo and husband, Michael of St. Albans, Kathleen Camisa of St. Albans, Colin Camisa of Winooski, Meghan Jarvis and husband, Todd of St. Albans Town, Cristin Camisa of St. Albans, Carolyn Evarts and husband, Mark of Burlington, Kate O’Neill and husband, Chris Miller of Washington, D.C., Maura O’Neill and her partner, Tim Painting of Burlington, and Madelyn Linsenmeir of Sarasota, Fla.; 13 great-grandchildren: Cody, Joshua, Jacob, Serena and Madison Camisa, Olivia and Sophia Venturo, Zachary and Isaac Devoid, Paxton, Keenan and Owen Jarvis and Liam Evarts. Nana will always be remembered for her devotion and commitment to her family. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and enjoyed many family outings in St. Albans and the Northeast Kingdom. She also enjoyed sponsoring children Vanessa Garcia of Ecuador and Vilma Popolcujcux of Guatemala to their adulthood.

She was predeceased by her parents and husband above, as well as three sisters: Glen Wallace, Mildred Cahill and Arlene Stevens; and six brothers: Thomas, John, Roland, Frank, Arland and Alan Cahill.

She was a graduate of the Brighton Public Schools and Burlington Business College where she became active in Democratic politics and helped establish the Young Democratic Club in Burlington. She was a past member of the City, County and State Democratic Committees and served as Vice Chairman of the State Committee. She represented Democratic women at conferences in Washington, D.C. and treasured her association with the John F. Kennedy family. She was a Kennedy delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1960, attended his inauguration, and cherished being a guest at his residence in Georgetown and at the White House. She remained active in politics until her death. She was employed by the Dow and Peterson Advertising Agency, and was secretary to Louis Dow, Mayor of Burlington. She was employed by the Eugene French Insurance Agency in St. Albans, served as a Court Officer in both District and Superior Courts in Franklin County, and retired from the Vermont Department of Social Welfare in St. Albans where she served as a supervisor.

She has been a communicant of St. Mary’s Church for the past 66 years, volunteered as a Grey Lady at Kerbs Memorial Hospital for many years and enjoyed playing Bridge with her many friends over the past 50 years. She is listed in the National Register of Prominent Americans, is a member of the Autonoe Club, John F. Kennedy Library, Vermont Historical Society, Vermont Symphony Orchestra Association, Business and Professional Women and Friends of the St. Albans Free Library.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, at St. Mary’s Church in St. Albans.

In lieu of flowers and to reflect her passion for reading and love of children, donations may be made to The St. Albans Free Library Children’s Room, 11 Maiden Lane, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Interment will follow in the Keenan family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 21.

ARTHUR ‘RED’ HUGHES, JR.
ST. ALBANS - A graveside funeral service for Arthur “Red” Hughes, who passed away on April 16, 2006, will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the family lot at the Berkshire Center Cemetery on Reservoir Road. The Reverend Samuel S. Newton, Pastor of the Georgia United Methodist Church will officiate.

JOSEPH H. ROCK
ST. ALBANS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Joseph H. Rock on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy was the celebrant, assisted by Deacon Duane Langlois. Altar servers were Normand Blouin and Norman Bushey. Mary Jo Gillilan was the organist and soloist.

Granddaughters, Tanya Bean and Angela Rock, read the Holy Scripture Lessons. Offertory Gifts were presented for the mass celebration by granddaughters, Stacie Rouleau and Hillerie Rock, and great-granddaughter Tamara Carey.

Attending were representatives of the Central Vermont Veterans Association, Dental office of Dr. David Stanley, St. Albans City Elementary School staff and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 758.

Bearers were grandsons, Kevin Bean, Keith Bean, Anthony Rock, Joseph D. Rock, Jeffrey Rouleau and Joshua McGhee.

Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy, interment was in the Rock family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. His family returned to Holy Angels Parish Center where a luncheon was served, hosted by the Ladies of St. Anne.

Monday afternoon, Father Roy held a Christian Wake Service with the family and friends in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

ALICE BERNARDINI BUSHEY
SWANTON - Funeral Services were held Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at 2 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home. Father John J. Meagher, SSE pastor of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Swanton and St. Louis Roman Catholic Parish Highgate Center officiated. Music was provided by organist and soloist, Mary Jo Gillilan.

Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from Holiday House, Franklin County Rehab Center and Nativity Parish Community.

Interment followed in the Bushey family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery with Father Meagher reading the committal prayers.

The bearers were Alice’s longtime friend and caregiver, Thomas “Butch” Thompson; nephews, Alex Riddell and Harvey Bushey; and Leonard James, Francis L’Esperance and Arthur Goodhue.

ALTON ‘KEN’ ASHLEY
SWANTON - Funeral Services were held Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE pastor of St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Parish Alburgh and St. Joseph’s Mission Isle La Motte officiated. Music was provided by organist and soloist, Mary Jo Gillilan.

Readings from both The Old and New Testament were proclaimed and Special Words of Remembrance were shared by Ken’s daughter-in-law, Caroline Ashley.

Among the many delegations in attendance were representatives from Highgate Elementary School, Rene Fournier Farm Equipment, IBM, St. Albans Primary Care, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778, Swanton, The Fitness Zone, A.N. Deringer, Merchants Bank, Trowel Trades Supply, United States Department of Homeland Security, Border Protection Service, West Swanton (Robitaille) Campground, Northwestern Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Mission and many Lakewood Drive friends and neighbors.

Interment followed in the Ashley family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery with Father Boucher reading the committal prayers. Following The Prayers of Committal a Bereavement Luncheon for family and friends was hosted at the Swanton Champlain Country Club.

EDWARD JOHN ‘EJ’ STITELY, JR.
FAIRFAX - Edward John “EJ” Stitely Jr., 42, passed away April 16, 2006, at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vt. after a long and courageous battle with cancer. EJ was born on July 20, 1963, in Long Beach, Calif., son of Edward J. and Esther Stitely Sr. On June 14, 1997, he wed Clarissa Marmolejo in Burlington, Vt.

EJ was a member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge 100 F&M and the United Church of Fairfax. He was very passionate about politics, hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking and his work as an electrician. He valued and embraced his friends and family. EJ taught Clarissa gardening and together they cultivated their life and their garden. He was well read, knowledgeable in many areas and always had a good sense of humor and positive attitude. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Clarissa (Marmolejo) Stitely of Fairfax; his parents, Edward John and Esther Stitely Sr. of Johnstown, Pa.; one brother, Eric J. Stitely and wife, Pansy of Hurt, Va.; two sisters: Esther J. “Cissi” Vitalie and husband, John V. of Johnstown, Pa., and Elizabeth J. Knipple and husband, Danny of Johnstown, Pa.; his mother-in-law, Carmen Caballero of Austin, Texas; two brothers-in-law: Phillip Marmolejo and wife, Priscilla of Austin, Texas, Adrian Marmolejo and wife, Jennifer of Austin, Texas; three sisters-in-law: Sylvia Marmolejo of Austin, Texas, Patricia Marmolejo of Austin, Texas, and Leticia Merchant and husband, Tommy of Colchester, Vt.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his precious cat, Callie.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main St., Fairfax, Vt. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 21, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the United Church of Fairfax with Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Sanderson Corners Cemetery. GARDNER RALPH STETSON
ENOSBURG - Gardner Ralph Stetson, age 66, went home to be with the Lord Monday evening, April 17, 2006, surrounded by his loving family at FAHC in Burlington.

Gardner was born in Richford, Vt., Oct. 1, 1939, the son of Florence L. (McCarty) Stetson and the late Ralph H. Stetson. He graduated from Richford High School in Richford in 1958.

He had many careers including varied jobs in the printing industry; working for Blue Seal Feeds of Richford; driving tractor trailer for Brosseau transport and then later McDermott Milk Transport both of Enosburg; working as a technician for Eastern AI Services of Ithaca, N.Y.; and the job he held for the 20 years prior to his retirement, serving as the Director/Coordinator of the Enosburgh Ambulance Service. Previously he was a Sergeant First Class in the Vermont Army National Guard and was also an active volunteer firefighter in Northern New York and volunteer in many organizations including the Boy Scouts of America and Disaster Services of the American Red Cross. He enjoyed life fully camping, hunting, woodworking and spending valuable time with his family whom he loved very much.

Gardner leaves his wife of 47 years, Joanne Durkee, they were married Jan. 8, 1959. He is also survived by one son, Reverend Timothy Stetson and his wife, Kathy of Enosburg; four daughters: Tara Berry and her husband, Roger of North Hartland; Traci DeRosia of Enosburg and her companion, Fabien Parent of Sheldon; Tanya Gervais and her husband, Robert of Enosburg; Tricia McFadden and her husband, Albert of Franklin; his mother, Florence Towle of Richford; his brother, Lloyd and his wife, Carolyn of Enosburg; his sister, Carolyn McAllister and her husband, Robert of Richford; a sister-in-law, Leona Smith and her husband, Wendell of Dexter, Maine; 10 grandchildren: David Stetson and his wife, Christina, Daniel Stetson, all of Enosburg; Jason Berry and his fiancé, Maegan, Michael Berry, Matt Goodrich, all of North Hartland; Jessica DeRosia of Enosburg; Julie Gervais and her friend, Caleb Kittell, Chad Gervais, all of Enosburg; Kraig, Karissa and Keirra McFadden of Franklin; his first great-grandchild Connor to be born in August of 2006; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves his “Gift from God, ” a little buddy, friend and companion, Hunter, his short haired Dachshund. He is also survived by his many other family and close friends. He was predeceased by his father Ralph Stetson of East Berkshire; and his step-father, Raymond Towle of Enosburg.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 20, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the 1st Baptist Church in Richford with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will follow in the West Enosburg Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Gardner’s memory to the American Red Cross, Northern Vermont Chapter, 29 Mansfield Avenue, Burlington, Vt. 05401; or the First Baptist Church of Richford, 33 School Street, Richford, Vt. 05476.

Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.

SANDRA (FOX) CARPENTER
WINOOSKI - Sandra Mae Carpenter went to her eternal home on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, from the Vermont Respite House in Williston.

She was born on May 15, 1957, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Glendon and Agnes (Santaw) Fox.

Sandra graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy and attended Lyndon State College. She served a year and a half mission in Los Angeles for Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and continued to be active in her church.

Sandra was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Rene Carpenter, and their children: Etienne, Elijah, Silas and Joy Carpenter of Winooski. She is also survived by step-children: Rene Carpenter Jr. and his wife, Angela of Bristol, Jackie Wooten and her husband, Mike of Waterville, Carol Johnson and her husband, Tom of South Royalton, and Crystal Carpenter of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by her father, Glendon Fox and his wife, Chrystal of Danville; and by her mother, Agnes Anderson and her husband, Bacil of Enosburg Falls. She leaves her sisters, Norma Racine of Louisville, Ky., Nancy Newton and her husband, Park, of Georgia, Susan Tanner of Swanton, and Monica Burnor and her husband, Kevin of Enosburg Falls. She also leaves two grandmothers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are scheduled on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Elmwood Meunier Funeral Home at 97 Elmwood Avenue in Burlington. The funeral will be held on Friday at 11 am. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 400 Swift St. in South Burlington, followed by interment at the New Mount Calvary Cemetery on Plattsburg Avenue in Burlington.

Contributions to a trust fund for Sandra’s children would be welcomed. Checks payable to the Chittenden Bank, (for Sandra Carpenter’s Children’s Fund) may be mailed to P.O. Box 1055, Williston, Vt. 05495.

DAVID M. FISHER
ST. ALBANS - Mr. David M. Fisher, age 56, died Saturday morning, April 15, 2006, at his home following an extended illness. David was born in St. Albans, Nov. 30, 1949, son of Wilson “Bernard” and Pauline (Chabor) Fisher.

David was an auto mechanic and was employed by D. R. Richards Auto. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and fiancée, Linda Bove of St. Albans; his father and mother, Wilson “Bernard” and Margaret Fisher of St. Albans; children: Angela Robinson of Dayton, Maine, Randy Fisher of Alpharetta, Ga.; two grandchildren, D. J. and Miranda; his sisters and their spouses: Suzanne and Dennis Macomber of High Point, N. C., Patricia and Robert Marquette of St. Albans, Deborah and Joseph Bousquet of Essex Junction; and several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date in May. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
