SHEILA MAE GRANT

MILTON/ALBURG ­ Sheila Mae Grant, 51, a native of Alburg and a resident of Milton since 1974, died early Saturday morning, June 23, 2001, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington following a sudden and massive heart attack.

Sheila was born in Alburg, Jan. 28, 1950, the daughter of the late Edward and Bernadette (Morits) Soule. She graduated from Alburg High School and the Vermont College of Cosmetology. On Sept. 4, 1970, she married Robert Grant who survives her.

For the past several years Sheila was the owner and president of GWR Word and Data. In earlier years she worked for Vermont Public radio and Television in Colchester and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service in St. Albans. She was a devoted Girl Scout Troop Leader in the Milton area for many years, a member of St. Anne Parish in Milton and along with her husband, shared a membership in the AARP.

Sheila will always be remembered for the great love she had for her business and grandchildren and the many crafts that she made with them. At the time of her death Sheila was in the process of publishing a recipe book featuring recipes from family and friends.

In addition to her husband Robert Grant of Milton, Sheila leaves two daughters and their husbands, Denise and Gary Wood, Jr. and Julie and Ed Roberts, all of Georgia; her sister, Ann Marie Cottle and her husband Bruce of North Chelmsford, Mass., and her brother Dennis Edward Soule and his wife Nancy of Cottageville, S.C. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Katelynn "Katie" Wood, Gary Robert "Joe Joe" Wood, Edward "Eddie" Roberts, Jr., Cody James "Code Man" Roberts and Dallas "Dal" Roberts, all of Georgia, as well as a special nephew, Jordan Cottle and godchildren and nephew, Jeremy Cottle, both of North Chelmsford, Mass.

She was predeceased by her father, Edward Soule in July of 1965 and her m other, Bernadette "Bernie" Soule in October of 1997.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Thursday, June 28, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A public graveside funeral service and interment will take place on Saturday, June 30, 2001, at 10 a.m. from the family lot St. Amadeus Cemetery in Alburg. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, the director of St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte, will officiate. Gifts in Sheila's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, 150 Kennedy Drive, So. Burlington, VT 05403, or to the American Heart Association, Vermont Affiliate, 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

MILDRED I. PARAH

ST. ALBANS -- Mildred I. Parah, 53, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully Friday, June 22, 2001, at the Medical Center Hospital in Burlington. Her loving family was at her side. She was born in East Fairfield March 20, 1948, the daughter of Arrietta (Jones) Demar and the late William P.A. Demar. On September 3, 1966 she married Leonard K. Parah in St. Albans. He survives her.

Mildred enjoyed sports and was a softball and baseball pitcher. She also loved cooking, dancing, music, playing cards, and performing card tricks. She loved her grandchildren very much and will be greatly missed by them and her dog "Haley".

In addition to her husband of nearly 35 years, Leonard, she is survived by her grandmother, Violet Jones of St. Albans, her mother, Arrietta Demar of St. Albans, a daughter and her fiancé, Michelle Marchant and Steve Sheldon of Swanton, a son and his wife, Michael and Penny Parah of Alburg, seven sisters; Jeanne King of St. Albans, Violet (Pinky) Lavigne and her husband, Rayburn of Williston, Mary Warren of St. Albans, Tina and her husband, Danny Pinon of Swanton, Billie and her husband, Larry Minor of Fletcher, Debbie and her husband, Roger LeBlanc of St. Albans, and Linda and her husband, Richard Gaboriault of St. Albans, two brothers; Russell and his wife, Tammy Demar of Milton, and Ricky and his wife, Claire Demar of St. George, VT. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Danielle, Carissa and Madison Parah and Brandon Marchant and several nieces nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, William P.A. Demar and a brother-in-law, Freeman Warren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Reverend Oren Lane officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to be used according to the wishes of Mildred's family. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

CHARLES M. CORLISS

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Charles M. Corliss, age 74, died Wednesday morning, June 20, 2001, in the Northwestern Medical Center, following an extended illness.

Charles was born in Swanton, Jan. 2, 1927, son of the late Raymond and Alice (Cline) Corliss. He operated the Corliss Construction Company from 1965 until his semi-retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1090. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Harbor Club and a lifemember of the Maple Leaf Farm. He was a director of Maple Leaf for 5 1/2 years and president of the Board of Directors for 3 1/2 years.

Charlies enjoyed Black Jack and the Casino life. He married Lillian "Lil" Westover Nov. 28, 1948. Lil died July 20, 1995. His survivors include his companion Geraldine Corliss, four children and their spouses, Jacquelynn Lavigne and her companion George Going of Panama City, Fla., Raymond and Debbie Corliss of St. Albans, Jill and Earl Mongeon of Westford, Jack and Jean Corliss of North Fayston, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Christine Corliss of St. Albans, Barbara Corliss of Waltham, Mass., several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Lillian, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Hubert, Floyd and Kenneth Corliss.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Franklin C ounty Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Ave., St. Albans, VT 05478, or the Maple Leaf Farm, PO Box 120, Underhill, VT 05489. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

RICHARD C. FLETCHER

RICHFORD -- Richard C. Fletcher, age 65, died Thursday afternoon, June 21, 2001, at his home following a long illness.

He was born Feb. 13, 1936 the son of the late Erwin J. & Glenna M. (Deuso) Fletcher.

Richard owned and operated Fletcher's Garage and Sporting Goods in Richford from 1986 to 1992 when health problems led to its closing. Prior to moving back to Vermont he lived in Connecticut where he was a partner in the Tito Sand & Gravel business. He also worked for Bond Construction, Lewis Landscaping and the Job he prided the most, Head Groundskeeper for Boehringer Ingelheim. Fishing was his favorite past time followed by hunting and golf. During his years in Connecticut he enjoyed many evenings playing guitar and singing his favorite country songs with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley (Ashby) Fletcher of Richford; three sons, Richard Fletcher and his fiancee Dr. Kathleen Meenan and their son Daniel Fletcher of So. Norwalk, Conn., Stephen Fletcher and his partner Alice Curtis and her two children, Patrick & Samantha of Richford, and Shane Fletcher of Richford; five brothers and their wives, Erwin & Kathy Fletcher, Norman & Gwen Fletcher, both of Richford, Dale& Sandy Fletcher of Concord, Randy & Mary Fletcher of Fletcher and Gary Fletcher of Fairfax; four sisters, Alice Workman of Grand Isle, Judy Williams and her husband Roger of Westford, Diane Fletcher of Enosburg, Debra MacAulay and her husband Denis of Naugatuck, Conn.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves dear friends, Andy & Georgi Anderson of Richford, Alan Godfrey of Washington State, James Backus of Richford, Buddy & Jan Fletcher of Richford, John & Dayle McBreairty of Warren, Conn., and Butch & Donna Burkey of New Milford, Conn. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son, Kevin Fletcher in 1983.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford. Interment will follow in the East Berkshire Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home in Richford.

MARION GABREE POWERS

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Marion Gabree Powers, age 58, died Saturday afternoon, June 16, 2001, at her home. She was born in East Georgia April 24, 1943, daughter of the late Raymond and Yvonne (Bernier) Gabree. March 5, 1960, she married Charles Powers. Besides her husband of over 41 year, she is survived by her sons, Charles Powers, Jr. and his companion, Kristina Moore of St. Albans, Randy and his wife Beth Powers of Sheldon, daughters, Sandi and her husband Robert Bero of Texas, Candi and her husband Kevin Helms of St. Albans, nine grandchildren, Christopher and Penny Powers, Rene St. Francis, Nicholas and Brad Bero, Brittnie, Shawn and Jori Helms; sisters and brothers Katherine Secard of South Hampton, Mass., Pauline Sweetser of Seattle, Wash., Sylvia Peak of Indiana, Wray Blouin of Orange City, Fla., Perley Gabree of Swanton, Donald Gabree of Alburg and Valencia Russell of Deland, Fla., several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Jason, daughter Penny, her parents, a brother Raymond Gabree, and a sister Lillian Bevins.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the graveside in Hope Cemetery in Georgia. Father Maurice Roy, pastor of Holy Angels Church officiated. Interment, next to her children, Penny and Jason, followed the prayers of committal, read by Father Roy. Her bearers were her sons, Randy Powers, Charles Powers, Jr., sons-in-law, Robert Bero and Kevin Helms, and Kellie St. Francis and Sandy Gerrow. Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

ROGER F. PUDVAH

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Roger F. Pudvah, age 33, died unexpectedly June 20, 2001. He was born Sept. 15, 1967 in St. Albans, the son of Robert & Eva (Strugeon) Pudvah.

Roger was employed at S.D. Ireland Concrete in Burlington and had also worked construction in the area for several years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

He is survived by his mother, Eva Elliott and her husband Stanley of Troy; his father, Robert Pudvah of Enosburg Falls; his son, Adam Pudvah, his daughter, Amy Pudvah; his stepson, Christopher Bocash, all of Fairfax; four brothers, Stewart Pudvah of Enosburg Falls, Donald Pudvah of Boston, Mass., Robert Pudvah of Swanton and Christopher Mashtare of Burlington; four sisters, Nelda Knox and her husband Eldridge of Enosburg, Mary Pudvah of Derby Line, Roberta Gardner of Danamora, N.Y., and Jennifer Pudvah of Swanton; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives may call on the family one hour prior to the funeral which will be held Monday, June 25 at 2 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in St. Isidore's Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery Center.

CATHERINE H. BIBENS

SO. HERO -- Catherine H. Bibens, 82, passed away Wednesday morning, June 20, 2001, at the Holiday House Nursing Facility in St. Albans, surrounded by her loving family.

Catherine was born on May 1, 1919 in South Hero, Vt., the daughter of Hubert and Mary (Martin) Dewyea. In 1939 she was married to Eustathios (Steve) Delivorias. He predeceased her in 1974. In 1985 she was married to Miller Bibens of Springfield, Vt.

In addition to her husband Miller, she is survived by her two daughters from her marriage to Steve, Kanella Nelson and her husband Craig of Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Donna Courchesney of Jay, Maine; by seven stepchildren, David Bibens and his wife Sandy of Springfield, Vt., Rodney Bibens a nd his wife Elaine of Poultney, Vt., William Bibens and his wife Marty of Lubbock, Texas, Rebecka Warren and her husband Lee of Poulsbo, Wash., Kilburn Bibens and his friend, Betty Davidson of Springfield, Vt., Dorothy Blais of Springfield, Vt., and Rosalie Pettiford and her husband Reginald of Altoon, Pa.; by six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Herbert Dewyea and a sister, Rose King.

Among many of her hobbies, Catherine enjoyed fishing, cooking and being with her family. For many years she ran "Kay's Home Away From Home" bed and breakfast. She enjoyed working in the cafeteria at the Mary Fletcher Hsopital for six years and for the Thermal Wire Co. in So. Hero, for another six years. She enjoyed cooking at the So. Hero Inn, working as a Ballot Clerk and serving as Justice of the Peace for the Town of South Hero, Vt.

A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, June 23, 2001, at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Howard Parish of the "God's Little Brown Church" in South Alburg, in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will follow in the South Hero Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Catherine's memory may be made to either the South Hero Rescue, PO Box 365, So. Hero, VT 05486, or to C.I.D.E.R., Champlain Island Developing Essential Resources, PO Box 13, So. Hero, VT 05486. Friends may call on the family Saturday from noon until the hour of the funeral at the Minor Funeral Home, located at 237 Rt. 7 So. in Milton.

Mrs. Bibens' family would like to thank the staff at the Holiday House for the loving care and attentin given to their Mom and Nana.

MARJORIE GATES IRISH

FRANKLIN -- Marjorie Gates Irish, age 77, widow of Robert H. Irish, died Sunday evening, June 17, 2001, at the Carriage House in Franklin.

She was born Feb. 19, 1924 in St. Albans, the daughter of the late Paul Hayden & Vera Hugh Gates.

Marjorie was raised in Franklin and returned in 1980. She was Lay Speaker and served on church council at the Franklin United Church. She was a 1943 graduate of UVM with a B.S. in Biology.

Marjorie was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. She enlisted Dec. 4, 1944 and did her basic training at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.; she then served as a psychiatric aide at Camp Upton, N.Y., attended P.T. School at O'Reilly General Hospital in Springfield, Mo., and was commissioned to Ft. Devens General Hospital in Hyer, Mass., Percy James General Hospital Amputee Center in Battle Creek, Mich., and Ft. Custer Rehabilitation Center in Ft. Custer, Mich. She was a life member of the American Legion Post #42 in Enosburg.

She married Robert H. Irish Aug. 12, 1946. Marjorie raised her family and practiced physical therapy in California, Arizona and New Jersey in hospitals and rehabilitation centers. While living in New Jersey she was a deaconess at Fords Presbyterian Church.

She was a lifetime member of the American Physical Therapy Assoc., Franklin County Assoc. of Retired Teachers, Franklin County Republican Committee, member of the Order of Eastern Star Martha Washington Chapter serving as Worthy Matron, Grand Chaplain of the State of Vermont, and Grand Representative to the State of Washington; Director of Franklin Telephone Co. & FELCO. In the past several years she was a member of the Healing Circle Cancer Support Group.

Marjorie enjoyed collecting, especially postcards and loved a good game of cards, a hot cup of tea, and someone to chat with. She was devoted to her family and community.

She is survived by a son and his wife Robert & Linda Irish and their children, Amber & Daniel of Spokane, Wash.; three daughters and their husbands, Rebecca & George Raynak and their children, Jennifer & Geoffrey of Franklin, Martha & Andrew Bodnarik and their children, Julia & Michael of Warner, N.H., and Mary Jo & Benjamin Norris and their children, Benjamin & Rosalie of Delmar, N.Y.; two brothers and their wives, Charles & Priscilla Gates and Hugh & Cynthia Gates, all of Franklin; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, David Ewing Gates, Geoffrey Gates & Paul Hayden Gates; two sisters, Jane Gates Merriam & Mary Elizabeth Gates.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Franklin United Church. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Franklin.

Friends and relatives may call on the family one hour prior to the funeral at the Franklin United Church.

MARGARET A. CLARK

SAXTONS RIVER, VT. -- Margaret A. Clark, 78, of Saxtons River Road, died at her home Sunday, June 17, 2001, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Clark was born Jan. 24, 1923 in Enosburg Falls, Vt., the daughter of Albert and Agnes (Hodgdon) Robideau. She graduated from the Enosburg Falls High School in 1941, following high school she worked in Southbridge, Mass. On May 29, 1942, Margaret married Lewis F. Clark. They made their home in Enosburg & Sheldon, Vt. until 1956 when they moved to Grafton, Vt. and again in 1965 to Saxtons River, Vt. Margaret worked as a homemaker and lovingly cared for her husband and five sons, for several years she also took foster children into her home. After the children were grown she worked for 14 years at McGirrs Nursing Home in Bellows Falls, Vt. In 1981 Mrs. Clark left McGirrs and went back to Enosburg Falls to care for her invalid brother after her mother passed away. Following retirement she and her husband enjoyed touring in their motor home, spending many happy days camping at Lake Carmi in Franklin, Vt. Along with camping Mrs. Clark also loved flowers, gardening and sewing.

Mrs. Clark leaves her husband, Lewis F. Clark of Saxtons River, Vt., five sons, Wayne Clark, Gary Clark and Dana Clark, all of Bellows Falls, Vt., Ronnie Clark of Saxtons River, Vt., and Michael Clark of Alstead, N.H.; one sister, Irene Laden; a brother-in-law, Bernard Clark; 13 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Mrs. Clark was predeceased by two sisters, Sybil and Arlene and two brothers, Aldin and Ernest.

A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 20 at 11 a.m. in the Houghtonville Cemetery, Houghtonville, Vt. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home, Bellows Falls, Vt. from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Clark's memory may be made to the Visiting Nurses and Home Health Care, One Hospital Court, Bellows Falls, VT 05101.
