HERBERT H. WEBB
ST. ALBANS - Herbert Harry Webb, age 84, passed away Monday evening, Aug. 28, 2006, at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vt. He was born on Dec. 2, 1921, in Fairfax, Vt., son of the late Herbert and Betsy (Powers) Webb.

Herbert was a dedicated dairy farmer for many years. Following retirement he drove bus for BFA Fairfax for over 10 years. He was proud to have been a founding member of the Fairfax Fire Department. He was a member of the Lamoille Lodge 6 F&AM masons of Fairfax. Herbert enjoyed reading and fishing, and especially looked forward to hunting rabbits with his loyal dog 'Duke.' He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by his three sons, Roland Webb and wife, Joan of Swanton, Bruce Webb and wife, Martha of Fletcher, Samuel Webb and wife, Tracy of Swanton; son-in-law, Thomas Barnes of Highgate Springs; two brothers, Arthur Webb and wife, Margaret of Fairfax, George Kemp and wife, Beverly of Highgate Center; his sister, Mabel Benoit and husband, Fernand of Brandon; many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is also predeceased by his wife, Jessie (Ryan) Webb on April 25, 1985; daughter, Betsy Barnes in 1993; grandson, Roland Webb II; sister, Phyllis Maxfield; and brother-in-law, Walter Maxfield.

Visiting hours will be held today, Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, from 6 to 9 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home l Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Fairfax with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Fairfax Plains Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Herbert's memory may be made to a Fire Department of your choice, or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Those who wish may forward their online condolences by visiting www.awrichfuneralhome.com.

JOYCE E. COOK
Largely attended funeral services for Joyce E. Cook, who passed away on Aug. 21, 2006, were held on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at 11 a.m. from Church of the Rock with the Reverend Roland Ludlam officiating. Music was provided by Val Chagnon.

Family memories were shared by Linda Trombley. Several in attendance also shared memories.

In attendance was representation from the Yankee Corporation, Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc., Superior Technical Ceramics Corporation, The Church of the Rock family and Franklin County Home Health Agency and Hospice.

Casket bearers were Michael Cook, Michael John Demag, William Demag, Harley Demag, Richard Totten and David Rouse.

Following Prayers of Committal by Pastor Ludlam, interment took place in the family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. A Luncheon followed at the church hosted by the Church of the Rock family. Joyce's uncle, the Reverend Leonidas B. Laroche, Pastor of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in

Fairfield, held a prayer service with her family and friends during visitation on Wednesday evening.

Assisting Joyce's family was the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.

CAROLYN SUE PETERS
SWANTON - Mrs. Carolyn Sue Peters, age 61, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in St. Albans, April 8, 1945, daughter of Herman and Eleanor (Menard) Trombley. She was a homemaker taking care of her sons and cared for many children in our community. She was a member of the Holy Angels Formal Choir, the Musicians of St. Mary's Parish, and was an activities organizer for the children of St. Albans at Houghton Park for many years.

She is survived by her two sons, Richard Peters Jr. and his fiancÚ Catherine Moore of St. Albans, and Sean Peters and his companion, Amy Stone of Highgate; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nancy Menard, Diane Lebel, Marilyn Menard; and a brother, William Menard. She was predeceased by her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church with Father Maurice Roy celebrating. There will be no visiting hours.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

LINDA STEWART LAMBESIS
ESSEX JUNCTION - Mrs. Linda Stewart Lambesis, 57, of Essex Junction, Vt., died tragically on Aug. 24, 2006, in her home. The daughter of Stanley M. Stewart and Kathleen Fredette Stewart, Linda was born Feb. 11, 1949, in Burlington, Vt. A graduate of Essex Junction High School in 1967, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont in 1972, and immediately began her teaching career at St. Albans Town Educational Center.

Following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother, Linda was a devoted teacher of elementary children and was preparing to begin her 35th year. She was known for reaching out to all children, especially those at school who needed extra support. She had an uncanny ability to engage them in learning, despite any difficulties they experienced outside her classroom. Linda can be described as a gift to the teaching world. Linda also loved spending time with friends and family. Over the years, Linda provided loving and unwavering support to families of friends and colleagues during their times of need. She also loved to laugh and possessed a dry wit reminiscent of her father, Stanley. At any gathering, Linda could be seen telling stories and cracking jokes, keeping her audience entertained.

Linda served as president of the homeowner's association where she lived and was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Essex Junction. She was a former president of the Greater St. Albans Jaycee Women, president and chief negotiator of her local teachers' association, a tireless fund raiser and president for the St. Albans Town Boosters' Club, and many other worthwhile community activities. Above all else, Linda loved her daughters, Jennifer and Andrea, and was actively involved in their daily lives. Linda had a big heart and gave without limit to those she loved.

Linda's life revolved around her two daughters, Jennifer and Andrea and later her son-in-law, Matt.

Linda is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Sturgeon and her husband, Matthew Sturgeon, of Milton, and Andrea Lambesis of Essex Junction; her mother, Kathleen F. Stewart of Burlington; her sister, Carol Stewart Willey of Burlington; Linda's former husband and father of their daughters, Arthur Lambesis of St. Albans. She was extremely fond of a nephew, nieces, and great-nieces. Linda also leaves behind two aunts, Alicia Fredette and Jean Fredette, both of St. Albans; and many cousins, beloved friends, colleagues, students and former students. Linda was predeceased by her father, Stanley Morse Stewart.

During this time of sorrow, the family would like to extend condolences to the other families and community members whose lives have been affected by the series of tragic events that included Linda's death. Linda's family also would like to thank the outpouring of support from the community as well as the diligent efforts of the Essex and Vermont State Police, Sheriff's Departments, surrounding law enforcement agencies and all other agencies that offered their support.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Essex. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. in St. Albans from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. A Memorial Service will be held at the St. Albans Town Educational Center Gymnasium at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts in Linda's memory be made to the Linda S. Lambesis Scholarship Fund, which will benefit a Bellows Free Academy student from St. Albans Town who plans to enter the field of education. Donations may be sent to Bellows Free Academy, c/o Ned Caron, Principal, 73 South Main St., St. Albans, Vt. 05478. MARY ALICIA (WORKMAN) SHANKS
ESSEX - Mary Alicia (Workman) Shanks, age 56, died tragically and far too young on Aug. 24, 2006, in her Essex school classroom, as a result of a homicide.

Alicia was a life-long resident of the Essex area, and devoted her life to her beloved family (husband Steve and children Emily and John) and her first and second grade students. She was a beautiful, gracious, strong and loving person, who emanated humor and joy wherever she went.

She was born on Aug. 4, 1950, in Burlington, daughter of the late Richard Workman and Eileen (O'Sullivan) Workman and the granddaughter of Mamie Emily (Lovell) Workman. Alicia lost her mother to cancer while a teenager, and with her grandmother Mayma raised her six younger siblings, assuming the role of mother at that young age l a role she continued all her life.

Alicia graduated from Johnson State College in 1972, with a degree in Elementary Education, and was immediately hired by the Fairfax Elementary School, where she had done her student teaching. After several years, she moved to the Essex Elementary School, where she taught first and second grade for nearly 25 years. Alicia was a talented and outstanding teacher, who taught innovatively and lovingly, the kind of teacher who received letters of tribute from her students when they graduated from college, thanking her for giving them the self-confidence and will to succeed. She did graduate work at UVM and St. Michael's College, and won an award from 'Instructor' magazine for a class project on Native American customs called 'Deeds of the Heart.' Also, her articles were published in the Governor's Institute of Vermont 'Leading and Learning' magazine. Among her activities were being a Baird Center Mentor for Residential Care, serving on the Board of the Essex Community Historical Society, and being a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Honorary Society and of Deedee's Mah jong Group. She loved Golden Retrievers, genealogy, family photograph albums, and family heirloom items. She recently discovered her mother's birth family roots in Ireland, and rejoiced in her Celtic heritage and her Irish relatives.

On Oct. 7, 1972, she and Stephen Shanks were married at her Aunt Helen's home in Castleton, Vt. Emily Eileen was born in 1977 and John in 1982. Their happiness with each other and their two children made their home a beacon of joy to all who knew them.

Alicia is survived by her husband of 34 years, Stephen; her children, Emily and John; her siblings, Rick Workman and wife, Elena of Jericho, John Workman and life partner, Giles Hunter of Essex Junction, Martha Workman and Wayne Phelps of Essex, Geoffrey Workman and his wife, Sharon of Buckfield, Maine, William Workman of Colchester, and Laurie Malenfant and her husband, Joe of Colchester; her mother-in-law, Janet Shanks of South Burlington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Cindy Shanks of Burlington, Judy (Shanks) and Carney Howell of Eliot, Maine; Susan (Shanks) and Eric Ayers of South Burlington; 20 nieces and nephews; one grandnephew and one grandniece; her extended family, cousins and many friends; and her many years of students and student teachers.

She was also predeceased by her father-in-law, Donald P. Shanks; and several aunts and uncles.

Visiting hours were held Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home l Essex Chapel, 57 Main St., Essex Jct. Vt. 05452. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today (Monday), Aug. 28, 2006, at 5:30 p.m. at the Chapel of St. Michael the Arch Angel on the campus of St. Michael's College, Colchester with the Reverend Brian J. Cummings S.S.E. officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot at Fairview Cemetery, Essex Junction, Vt.

DOROTHY MAE (JOHNSON) SCRIBNER
MILTON l Dorothy Mae (Johnson) Scribner, 99, died peacefully on Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at the Haven Health Center in St. Albans surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born in Colchester on Jan. 1, 1907, the daughter of the late Dean Crown and Lena Blanche (Gonyeau) Johnson. She married Leon Scribner in Essex, Vt. on Sept. 6, 1927. Leon predeceased her on Feb. 15, 1988, after 60 years of marriage.

Dorothy was a homemaker in all capacities. She offered a listening ear to her family and friends and gave unselfishly of herself through her sewing, cooking, gardening and gentle spirit. She was employed for 17 years by the Milton Elementary School with the lunch program, always offering a kind word or smile to many generations of children.

A lifetime member of TOPPS, and former Milton Grange member, she never forgot the importance of hard work, a trait she passed onto her children and grandchildren. She was an avid card player and also enjoyed bingo, dominoes, or just good conversation.

Dorothy is survived by her devoted family: her children, Betty Blatt and her husband, David of Milton, Joyce Limoge and her husband, Bob of Poultney, Mary Perry and her husband, Paul of St. Albans, and Nancy Dion and her husband, Mike of Milton. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-grandchild and five step-grandchildren.

She also leaves her sister-in-law, Florence Parsons of Winooski; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dorothy was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Clarence Lamphere Sr. of Milton; and three brothers and spouses, Ebenezer Johnson Sr. and his wife, Julia, Howard Johnson and his wife, Elaine, a brother Kenneth Johnson; and her sister, Clara Belle Jones, all of Milton. She was also predeceased by five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the United Church of Milton. Burial will follow in the Milton Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held toady (Monday), Aug. 28, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

RICHARD DAVIS HOWELL III
Richard 'Rik' D. Howell III, 30, was called to be with our Lord on Aug. 19, 2006. He was born in Clarksville, Tenn. on May 26, 1976, to Richard Howell Jr. and Cynthia Taylor Ranks.

He is survived by his loving mother, Cynthia Ranks, and stepfather, Daniel Ranks of Fairfax, Vt.; his father, Richard D. Howell Jr. of Clarksville, Tenn.; and the loves of his life, his two beautiful daughters, Ilana and Darci Howell; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Kris Leader, and their sons Matthew and Brandon Leader of Montana; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Bero of St. Albans, Vt.; paternal grandparents, Richard Sr. and Molly Howell of Clarksville, Tenn.; his uncle Carlyle Poole; and several cousins of Tennessee.

He also leaves behind many aunts and uncles from Vermont: Stephen M. Taylor, Marie & Francis Putnam, Sheila & Larry Snaith Sr., Priscilla & Stanley Putnam, Edwina & Joe Leclair, Rosemary & Stewart Barrows, Joann & Bill Gordon, Robin & Mike Pepin and also Jim & Ann Nutting of Florida.

He was predeceased by his grandfather Edward L. Taylor; aunt Barbara and her son, Christopher Coon; cousins, Kevin M. Jerry and James Nutting and aunt Kitty Poole.

A funeral was held on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at Sykes Funeral Home in Clarksville, Tenn., assisted by Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services of St. Albans, Vt.

Our love and prayers go with you 'Bucky.' With all our love to a very special young man who God called home much too soon.

The family wishes to thank everyone who helped us through this difficult time.

HOWARD K. 'MIKE' MOSS
ST. ALBANS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Howard K. 'Mike' Moss, Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church with Father Maurice Roy celebrating. Concelebrating with Father Roy was Father Daniel Lokanga. Assisting at the altar were Norman Blouin and Richard Brandt. The organist and soloist was Claire Hungerford.

Interment followed in the Moss family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Urn Carriage bearers were Steven Chaloux, Jesse, Gage, Jacob and Ethan Moss. Mike's urn was carried to the cemetery by his son, Bruce Moss in a 1957 MG that Mike restored, driven by Lester Aylward.

Military honors were presented to the Korean War veteran and the American Flag was presented to his wife Yvonne by the Vermont Air National Guard.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

EDITH H. WRIGHT
SWANTON - A Funeral Service was held Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at 10 a.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home. The Reverend Herman Benjamin, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in St. Albans City, a longtime family friend and former neighbor officiated.

Mrs. Wright's grandchildren together read Psalm Twenty-Three and other scripture readings were proclaimed by daughter-in-law, Jackie Wright; daughter, Joyce Cassidy and grandchildren, Tammy Palmer and Jeff Mercy. Special Words of Remembrance were shared by Mrs. Wright's son, Greg Wright; daughter-in-law Jackie Wright; brother-in-law, Richard Mercy and niece Jenn Cota.

Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from the Swanton Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Mary S. Babcock and Swanton Central Schools, Missisquoi Valley Union High School, St. Albans Primary Care, Franklin Town Offices, Franklin Rescue, Vermont Air National Guard, H&B Greenhouse, Franklin County Home Health Agency, Casella, Mylan Technologies, Northwestern Medical Center, Our Lady of the Meadows and Ave Maria Community Care Home.

Interment followed in the Wright family lot in Riverside Cemetery with The Reverend Mr. Benjamin reading the committal prayers. The Bearers, all grandsons, were Dennis Wright, Jeff Mercy, Keith Tremblay, David Cassidy, Greg Beaudoin, Gary Swan and Rob Palmer.

Following The Prayers of Committal a Bereavement Luncheon was served for family and friends at the Richford American Legion hosted by the members and auxiliary.

KRYSTAL ELIZA REYNOLDS
SWANTON - A Funeral Service was held Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home. Doctor Jeff Benay, Director of Title VII Indian Education for the Franklin County Public Schools, officiated.

In addition to Dr. Benay, Special Words of Remembrance were shared by Krystal's mother, Janet Garrison; aunt, Marilyn Sherman and cousin, Samantha Graham.

Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from the Abenaki Nation of Vermont including the Tribal Council, Circle of Courage, Youth Group and Cultural Center, led by Chief April St. Francis l Merrill, A.N. Deringer, University of Vermont, Fletcher Allen Health Care, Steinhour CafÚ, Mary S. Babcock and Swanton Central Schools and Public Access Channels 15 and 16.

Interment followed in the Pelkey/Reynolds family lot in St. John's Episcopal Cemetery Highgate Falls with Doctor Benay leading the committal service. The bearers were uncles, Ethan Garrison, and Scott LaValley; loving cousin, Shawn Dubie; special cousin, David Graham; and cousins, Mitchell Hakey and Jeff Choiniere.

Following The Prayers of Committal, a Bereavement Luncheon for family and friends was served at the Pelkey Homestead in Highgate Falls hosted by family and friends.
