LAURA (EDDY) BASSETT

BURLINGTON -- Laura (Eddy) Bassett, 89, of Burlington, died surrounded by her loving family on Monday afternoon, July 16, 2001, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

Mrs. Bassett was born Feb. 8, 1912 in Middlebury, the daughter of Ceylon and Mary Bosley Eddy.

She graduated from Mary Fletcher School of Nursing in 1935 and had been a Registered Nurse at the Mary Fletcher, retiring in 1962.

She was married to Keith G. Bassett who predeceased her in 1976.

Laura is survived by her son Kenneth Bassett and his wife Joan of Vernon, Conn.; her two daughters, Sandra Richards and her husband Stanley of Milton and Bonnie Bohnet and her husband Clifford of Fitchburg, Mass., as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves her brother Ralph Eddy as well as her very dear friend, Reba Drabble.

She was predeceased by her sister Jessie Briggs.

Friends may call on Laura's family Thursday, July 19, 2001, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the home of Sandra and Stanley Richards located at 13 Barnum Street in Milton. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 20, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the First Congregational Church Chapel on South Winooski Avenue in Burlington. Burial will immediately follow in the Church Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Bassett's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate, Inc., 77 Hegeman Avenue, Colchester, VT 05446.

Arrangements are by the Minor Funeral Home of Milton.

MRS. PAULINE DURANLEAU

ST. ALBANS ­ Mrs. Pauline Duranleau, age 83, died Sunday morning, July 15, 2001, in the Northwestern Medical Center. She was born in Lowell, March 30, 1918, daughter of the late Telesphore and Ida (DesGranges) Forand. For many years she was in nursing services at the Woodlawn Nursing Home in Wichita, Kansas until her retirement in 1973. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church. Pauline will be remembered as enjoying a card game whenever possible.

She married Robert Duranleau Oct. 19, 1946. Mr. Duranleau died June 17, 1975.

She is survived by her six children and their spouses, George and Judy Duranleau of No. Berwick, Maine, Louise and Mickey Kubala of Succasunna, N.J., Dian Duranleau and her husband Ken Minck of Georgia, Irene and Ed Struble of Vernon, N.J., Claire and Naji Toubia of Andover, Kansas, Renee and Rich Cordeau of Chester, N.H., her daughter-in-law, Karen Duranleau of Wichita, Kansas; her brothers, Jacques and his wife Lucille Forand of Manchester, N.H., Jules and his wife Cecile Forand of Ocala, Fla.; sisters Jacqueline Thibadeau of Westmoreland, Tenn., Francine and her husband Bernard Paquette of Fullerton, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Robert, she was predeceased by her son, Robert on July 1, 1997, sister Madeline Meunier and brothers, Real, Noel, Bernard, Gerald and Fernan Forand.

The family is deeply thankful to the Franklin County Home Health Agency for all their wonderful care that allowed her to live independently. She spent a great deal of her life caring for her children and others and, in turn, she was blessed by those who cared for her at Lake Street Housing.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 19, 2001, at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Lowell. There will be no public calling hours. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

RICHARD M. McGRATH

HINESBURG ­ Richard M. McGrath, 63, died early Friday morning, July 13, 2001, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington surrounded by his loving family.

Dick was born on July 14, 1937 in East Orange, N.J., the son of Lyman & Elizabeth (Field) McGrath. He attended Northeastern University in Boston prior to the Vietnam War. He served his country during the Vietnam era as a pilot in the U.S. Navy. Dick was a member of the American Legion Post #91 in Colchester. He was a former member of the Milton Rescue Squad and was a past Mason.

He was last employed as an interface technologist with the Springer Miller co., based out of Stowe.

He is survived by his wife Lucille Mullican McGrath of Hinesburg, by their children, Bruce Gaynon of Colchester, Ruth Bessette of So. Burlington, Jerald Gaynon of Hinesburg, Mark Gaynon of Westford and Timothy Gaynon of So. Burlington; by 14 grandchildren, by his brother Michael McGrath of Minnesota, his sisters, Ann Carroll of Colorado and Theresa Kincaid of Calif., and by several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Monday, July 16, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, located at 237 Rt. 7 South in Milton.

PHILLIP A. TUPER

SWANTON ­ Mr. Phillip A. Tuper, age 69, died Saturday morning, July 7, 2001, in the Northwestern Medical Center following a long period of failing health. He was born in Fort Covington, N.Y, April 11, 1932. During the Korean Conflict he saw extensive action in Korea. Also, while in the service of his country, in Korea, Phil cared for many young children and helped to establish a home for the underprivileged and homeless children who were victims of the skirmishes in their area. Following his military career he became the Chef for The Back Bay Hilton Hotel in Boston and later was an assistant nurses aide I the Leominster, Mass. Hospital. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Eastern Kodak Film Producers in Rochester, N.Y.

His survivors include his wife Muriel Tuper of Swanton, 17 children, his mother Beatrice Holcomb of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone, N.Y.; several step-children, grandchildren, great grandchildren. Also, a brother Donald and his wife Ruth Holcomb of Williamson, N.Y., a sister Phyllis and her husband Walter Robinson of Whipperville, N.Y., a cousin Bruce and his wife Bonnie Dupra, their children Sonia Dupra and Toni Dupra of Richford, several nieces, nephews and others cousins.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Father Vincent Anunkwo, associate of Holy Angels Church, officiated. Interment followed in the Tuper family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Heart Association, PO Box 485, Williston, VT 05495. Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

GEORGE LYMAN WEATHERWAX

BELVIDERE -- George Lyman Weatherwax, age 19, passed away on his birthday unexpectedly with his fiancee, Jessica Mary Bishop, her father Mitchell Lloyd Bishop and their friend Derrick Davis as the result of a senseless tragedy at their home on Friday evening, July 13, 2001.

He was born on July 13, 1982 in Fairfax, Vt., son of Joseph Andrew Walter and Nancy Mabel (Knox) Weatherwax. George attended BFA Fairfax School before moving to Cambridge. He was a hard and dedicated worker employed with Place's Professional Concrete Company of Fairfax. George was a soft-spoken person who enjoyed the history of the Gothic era. He always looked forward to his hunting and fishing with his friends and father. But most of all he lived his life for his fiancee and soulmate, Jessica with whom he departed this world. His loss is tremendously painful and will become a void in the hearts of the many who knew and loved him.

George is survived by his parents, Joseph and Nancy (Knox) Weatherwax of Cambridge, a brother Andrew Joseph Weatherwax and his fiancee Tanya Tucker of Cambridge, a nephew Andrew Joseph Robert Weatherwax of Colchester, his paternal grandparents Walter and Marion Weatherwax of Colchester, his maternal grandparents George and Irene Knox of Cambridge, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home Wednesday, July 18, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2001, at 1 p.m. in the Belvidere Central School, 4515 Vt. Rt. 109, Belvidere, with Reverend Elizabeth Griffin of the United Church of Fairfax officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in George's memory to Project Prepared, c/o Kitty Anderson, 25 Anderson Road, Cambridge, VT 05444.

Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main Street, Fairfax.

JESSICA MARY BISHOP

BELVIDERE -- Jessica Mary Bishop, age 18, passed away unexpectedly with her fiancé George L. Weatherwax, her father Mitchell L. Bishop and their friend Derrick Davis as the result of a senseless tragedy at their home on Friday evening, July 13, 2001.

Jessica was born on May 11, 1983 in Morrisville, Vt., the daughter of Mitchell L. and Melissa (McLean) Bishop. She had been a student of the Culinary Arts program at Lamoille Union High School and graduating class of 2000. She was most recently employed with Cambridge Pharmacy. Jessica lived for her family and was the soulmate of her fiancé George Weatherwax with whom she departed this world. Her energy and wonderful personality will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her mother, Melissa "Missy" Bishop of Belvidere, a sister Angel Bishop of Belvidere, two half-sisters, Lisa Bishop and Jeannie Bishop, her maternal grandparents, William and Olive McLean of Belvidere, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Asa Barry and her paternal grandparents, Mitchell Lloyd and Mary (McCarthy) Bishop.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home Wednesday, July 18, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2001, at 1 p.m. in the Belvidere Central School, 4515 Vt. MITCHELL LLOYD BISHOP

BELVIDERE -- Mitchell Lloyd Bishop, age 45, passed away unexpectedly with his daughter Jessica Bishop and her fiancé George L. Weatherwax and their friend Derrick Davis, as the result of a senseless tragedy at their home on Friday evening, July 13, 2001.

Mitchell was born on April 7, 1955 in Fort Devens, Mass., the son of the late Mitchell Lloyd and Mary (McCarthy) Bishop. He was a self-employed logger and sugar maker over the years, working for Buttolph Maple Farm. He married the former Melissa "Missy" McLean. He was a wonderful, loving and devoted husband, father and friend who lived his life for his family. His loss is great and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa "Missy" (McLean) Bishop of Belvidere, three daughters, Angel Bishop of Belvidere, two daughters from a previous marriage, Lisa Bishop and Jeannie Bishop, four brothers, Michael Bishop and his wife Darlene of Atlanta, Ga., Stephen Bishop and his wife Cindy of Johnson, Vt., Russell Bishop and his wife Dale of New Hampshire, and Ben Bishop and his wife Michelle of Moscow, Vt.; four sisters, Mary Adams and David Baldwin of Northfield, Vt., Donna Jewett and her husband Ted of Montgomery, Floralee Johnson and her husband Scott of Morrisville, Sherry Thayer and her husband Tony of Barre, Vt.; two grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was also predeceased by a son, Asa Barry and a brother, Clifford Bishop.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 18, 2001, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2001, at 1 p.m. in the Belvidere Central School, 4515 Vt. MAFALDA CATHERINE GUERRINA

SWANTON/ENOSBURG FALLS ­ Mrs. Mafalda Catherine Guerrina, 89, a native of the Pittsfield, Mass., area and recently residing with her son and daughter-in-law on York Street in Swanton Village, died Monday morning, July 9, 2001, in the Brownway Residence in Enosburg Falls.

She was born in Pittsfield, Mass. on Dec. 5, 1911, the daughter of the late Dominick and Catherine (Cornara) Bava. She was married to Louis Guerrina who predeceased her in 1974.

Mrs. Guerrina leaves her son, Robert Guerrina and his wife Mary Jane of Swanton, and two grandchildren, Robert Guerrina, Jr. and his wife Kate of Brattleboro and Sean Guerrina and his wife Audrey of Cicero, N.Y. Also surviving are three great grandchildren, Sophie, Lila and Trevor Guerrina, as well as several cousins.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be announced at a later date with interment following in the family lot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield, Mass. Gifts in Mrs. Guerrina's memory may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in care of The Reverend Marsha Hoecker, 38 Grand Avenue, Swanton, VT 05488.

Arrangements have been under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home of Swanton, Vt.
