ALFREDA ANN SMITH, R.N.

HIGHGATE FALLS -- Mrs. Alfreda Ann Smith, 86, a lifelong area resident died early Saturday morning June 30, 2001, in Redstone Villa.

She was born in St. Albans Feb. 12, 1915, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Blanche (Baraby) Beauvais. She graduated from Highgate High Schools and from the Plattsburgh, New York Nursing Academy as a Registered Nurse. On Nov. 26, 1942 she married Clifford Raymond Smith, who predeceased her on June 28, 1977. She worked for thirty years as a Registered Nurse in both the St. Albans City and Kerbs Memorial Hospitals. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Highgate Center.

Mrs. Smith leaves four sons and their wives, Michael and Carla Smith of Highgate Falls, Clement Smith of Ohio, Patrick and Kathy Smith of Sheldon and Richard and Anne Smith of Highgate Falls. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Diana Jones and her husband Bryan, Heather Buckley, Matthew Smith, Adam Smith and Eric Smith.

A graveside memorial service and interment was conducted Friday, July 6, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the family lot in St. Louis Cemetery, Lamkin Street in Highgate Center. Father Paul C. Houde, temporary administrator of St. Louis and Nativity Parishes will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, Swanton, Vt.

DIANN L. CROSS

ST. ALBANS -- Diann L. Cross, age 54, died Tuesday afternoon, July 3, 2001, shortly after arrival at the Fletcher Allen Health Care, following a heart attack. Diann was born in Burlington, Aug. 9, 1946, daughter of Kathleen (Lapan) King and the late Carl King. Diann was an employee of F. W. Woolworth in the accounting department for several years and most recently was employed in data entry for Labat Anderson (now Scot Company) in St. Albans.

Her survivors include her son, Marty Wait and her mother, Kathleen King, both in St. Albans, her sister, Marette and her husband Neil Conger of Georgia, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Carl King in 1988.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St. from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in the Cross family lot in Hope Cemetery, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 485, Williston, VT 05495, or the American Cancer Society, Northwestern Medical Center Association, PO Box 1370, St. Albans, VT 05478.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

PATRICK C. LAMOUREUX

WEST BERKSHIRE -- Patrick C. Lamoureux, age 72, died Tuesday afternoon, July 3, 2001, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 24, 1928 in Enosburg Falls, Vt., the son of Lillian (Lafley) Lamoureux and the late Joseph I. Lamoureux.

He was a resident of Berkshire most of his life and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post #42 of Enosburg Falls. He was employed at A. Browns in Enosburg Falls for 35 years, retiring in 1989. Following his retirement he was employed by the Town of Berkshire until 1991. He enjoyed hunting, Bingo, bowling and collecting and repairing clocks, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Celia "Rose" (Mosier) Lamoureux of West Berkshire; two sons, Charles Lamoureux and his wife Linda, and Joseph Lamoureux, both of Berkshire; two daughters and their husbands, Marshia & Herbert Dudley, and Cynthia & Brent Lussier, both of Enosburg Falls; his mother Lillian Lamoureux of Enosburg Falls; nine grandchildren, Stacy & Chad Dudley, Jamie & Jessie Lussier, Margo, Meghan and Patrick Lamoureux, and Heather Lamoureux & Joseph Lamoureux, Jr.; one brother and his wife, Paul & Dorothy Lamoureux of Berkshire; five sisters, Joan Kane and her husband Herman of Berkshire, Helen Armour of Enosburg Falls, Grace Jones and her husband William of Essex Ctr., M. Susie Ewins and her husband Richard of Berkshire and Margaret Elkins and her husband Michael of Montgomery; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Joseph Lamoureux, Sr. in 1989, a brother Joseph Lamoureux, Jr. in 1961, a granddaughter, Julie Ann Lussier in 1980.

A memorial mass will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Rev. Gerard Leclerc celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. For those who wish, contributions in his memory may be made to Enosburgh Ambulance Service, 83 Sampsonville Rd., Enosburg Falls, VT 05450, or to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478.

Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls is in charge of arrangements.

ANTOINETTE M. SHEPARD

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Antoinette Marie Shepard, age 90, died Monday afternoon, July 2, 2001, in the Holiday House Nursing Home. She was born in Champlain, N.Y., Nov. 17, 1910, daughter of the late Zeb and Sylvia (Bouchard) Lavalley. She was employed as a clerk for the Wm. Doolin Co. and at Joseph Conti Fruit Store and in the lab at H.P. Hood Creamery prior to working at the St. Albans Hospital for several years. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She was a former member of the Holy Angels Mothers Club.

Aug. 13, 1929, she married Raymond Joseph Shepard. Besides her husband of almost 72 years, Raymond, now at Brownway in Enosburg, she is survived by her son and his wife James and Carol Shepard of Swanton, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Cecile Hebert and brothers, Zeb Lavalley and Louis Belleville.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001, in Holy Angels Church. Interment was in the Shepard family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

EDWARD HILL PERRY

SWANTON -- Edward Hill Perry, 83, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2001 after a short stay in the Holiday House Nursing Home in St. Albans. Born in Winchester, Massachusetts on March 22, 1918, he spent his early life in Philipsburg, Quebec. In 1940 he went overseas with the Canadian Black Watch. Later he transferred into the U.S. Army Signal Corps and served in North Africa and Italy until the end of the war. On June 11, 1947 Hill married his childhood friend, Dorothy "Bunty" Kidd.

Hill owned and operated the White Fuel Company on Lake Street for 18 years. He later served as Steward of the Owl Club where he was a life member. He was a member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion and a former member of the St. Albans Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was instrumental in 1960 in organizing 10 pin bowling in St. Albans and was a former Morse Code Instructor with the Boy Scouts of America. He spent many hours tuning and repairing pianos and loved to play the violin and piano. He spent much of his retirement bowling, playing pocket billiards, bridge, fishing, gardening and singing in the choir. Hill and Bunty spent summers on Butler Island for 25 years.

Hill leaves his devoted wife of 54 years, Bunty, of Swanton, his son Greg and his wife, Kathy of Sheldon, his two daughters, Pamela Erb and her husband, Clinton of Essex Junction and Ellen Perry of South Burlington, four grandchildren, Kyla Porter and her husband Steve, Shaylene and Matthew Perry, and Christopher Hadden, and two great-grandchildren, Kate and Abraham Porter. He was predeceased by his father, Edward Nathaniel Perry and his mother, Isabel Aitken Smith, his step-father, James Smith and his beloved brother, John "Buddy" Perry who died at the age of 26.

Hill's family acknowledges the kind care given to Hill over the past few years by the Franklin County health care professionals and caregivers as well as the many friends who helped and supported the family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 5 at 11 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Grand Avenue in Swanton with the Reverend Marsha Hoecker officiating. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Church Cemetery in Philipsburg, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478 or the American Red Cross, Northern Vermont Chapter, P.O. Box 508, Burlington, VT 05402. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

HARLEY D. RUSHFORD, SR.

FLETCHER -- Harley D. Rushford, Sr., age 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, June 28, 2001, at The Holiday House Nursing Home in St. Albans. He was born in West Enosburg, Vt. Feb. 22, 1908, son of the late Asa and Ruby (Mercy) Rushford. He married the former Ruby Winifred Mercey. She predeceased him March 25, 1987. He and Ruby owned and operated their own Dairy farm for many years in Franklin County. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him. The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Holiday House, a special house Harley considered home, for their loving care and attentions devoted to him during his stay.

He is survived by two sons, Larry Rushford of Naugatuck, Conn., Harley Rushford, Jr. of Fletcher, one daughter, Beulah Sylvester of Swanton; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy "Dot" Rushford.

Visiting hours were held at Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Sunday, July 1, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service was held at Hayes-Rich Funeral Home Monday, July 2, 2001, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Elizabeth Griffin of The United Church of Fairfax officiating. Interment followed in the family lot in Binghamville Cemetery, Fletcher. Memorial contributions in Harley's memory may be made to the Vermont National MS Society, 100 Dorset St., Suite #12, So. Burlington, VT 05403.

Arrangements were by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

PAUL D. TIBBITS

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Paul D. Tibbits, age 69, died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 29, 2001, at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.

He was born in East Berkshire July 6, 1932, the son of the late Ivan Sr. & Myrtle (Dixon) Tibbits.

Paul had been a resident of Enosburg most of his life and a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post #42. He was a farm machinery mechanic and was employed at A. Bonneau in Sheldon and later at Bourbeau International and Franklin Ford Tractor in St. Albans until 1989. He then retired from Boston Boiler in 1994.

He is survived by his wife Mary (Domina) Tibbits; a son John Tibbits and his companion Debbie Aldrich of Fairfield; two daughters, Sara Tibbits and her companion John Erno of Franklin, Wendy Baker and her husband Sean of St. Albans; two sisters, Geraldine Godin and her husband Henry of Montgomery Center, Charlene Johnston and her husband Vernon of Williston; four grandchildren, Seth Erno, Haley Tibbits, Aaron & Lindsay Baker; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother Ivan Tibbits, Jr., and two sisters, Susan Jane & Lucille Tibbits.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home on Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls. Friends are invited to call on the family Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the East Franklin Cemetery.

DORIS L. AUSTIN

RICHFORD -- Doris L. Austin, age 65, widow of Lawrence E. Austin, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at her home following an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 20, 1936 in Berkshire, the daughter of the late Adelord & Alphonsine (Goyette) Vachon.

She was a resident of Richford since 1968 and was a former resident of St. Albans and Connecticut. She was employed as a seamstress in Richford for several years and was also employed at General Electric in Connecticut. She was a member of the American Legion Post #12 Ladies Auxiliary of Richford.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Kim & James Nelson of Fair Haven, N.J., and Sandra & Joe Sciotto of Enosburg FAlls; four grandchildren, Brian & Heather Nelson of Fair Haven, N.J., and Jason & Michael Fleury of Berkshire; one brother and his wife, Arthur & Linda Vachon of Berkshire; four sisters and their husbands, Vivian & Rosaire Paradis of Berkshire, Amanda & Raymond Paradis of Enosburg Falls, Pauline & Harvey Chadwick of Swanton, and Marcelene Coe of Essex; several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home on 96 Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date in the Richford Center Cemetery.
