DORIS M. SULLIVAN
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Doris M. (Jarvis) Sullivan, age 89, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, at her home Friday morning, June 2, 2006. She was born in St. Albans, Jan. 29, 1917, the daughter of the late Victor and Emma (Cota) Jarvis. She was married to Halstead Sullivan who died in 1984.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed listening to Polkas, playing cribbage, knitting for grandchildren and spending summer's visiting with family and friends on her sun porch; and, bowled for many years in leagues and with her husband and friends.

She is survived by her three sons, Gary and his wife, Lynne of Burlington, Robert and his wife, Valerie of St. Albans and Hal of St. Albans; five grandchildren, Shannon, Jay, Tom and Shaun Sullivan, and Robyn and her husband, Hugh McKenney; five great-grandchildren, Tedd, Bryanna and Jay McKenney, Noah and Isaac Sullivan; her brother, Walter and his wife, Jeannette Jarvis and sister-in-law, Lucille Jarvis, all of St. Albans; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband Halstead, she was predeceased by her parents; her twin sister, Dora Jarvis; her sister, Irene Press; her brothers, Andrew, George and Victor; her half-brothers, John and William Jarvis; and sister-in-law, Armelle Sullivan.

She touched the lives and hearts of all she met and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Interment will be in the Jarvis Family lot in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery on Wednesday, June 7, at 10 a.m., or in case of inclement weather, a short service at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

M.J. DOROTHY SCANLON
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. M.J. Dorothy Scanlon, age 54, died at her home with her loving family by her side, Friday afternoon, June 2, 2006. She was born Oct. 14, 1951, in St. Albans, daughter of the late Salime “Sam” and Doris (Samson) Benoit.

Dot served in the U.S. Army and the Vermont Army National Guard. She married Robert M. Scanlon, Aug. 21, 1976. He predeceased her Sept. 14, 1993. She worked as a machine operator at the Fonda Group for 34 years, until they closed the plant. In recent years, she assisted her special friend Gary Cherrier in the daily operations of his farm, and participated in many field days, horse pulls, and agriculture competitions.

Dot is survived by her daughter, Jessica Scanlon and her fiancé, Jesse Corliss of St. Albans; her grandkids Cierra, Shelby, and Cherica; her special friend and companion, Gary Cherrier of St. Albans Bay; her brothers and sisters, Leo Benoit and his wife, Marie, Evelyn Ashline and her husband, Robert, all of Fairfax, Mary Shorey and her husband, Dennis of French Hill, Norman Benoit and his wife, Jackie of Fairfax and Claire Benoit of Franklin; brothers-in-law, Danny Scanlon, Gary Scanlon; and sister-in-law, Linda Scanlon, all of St. Albans; her beloved pig Lucy and cow Martha, horse Rosie, special feline friend Nala, who stayed with her to the end; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and husband Robert Scanlon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at 2 p.m. in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Scanlon family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made in the form of Masses.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

ALFRED D. VALLEY
SWANTON - The Liturgy of Christian Burial was concelebrated Friday, June 2, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The pastor, Father John J. Meagher, SSE was the principle celebrant and homilist. Concelebrating was Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, pastor of St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Alburgh and St. Joseph’s Mission, Isle La Motte. Assisting was The Reverend Mr. Alan Vincelette, deacon assigned to the Island Parishes. Edward Daniel and Joseph Gamache served as Ministers of the Altar. Music was provided by organist and soloist, Armand Messier and violinist, Gianna Messier.

A guard of honor was formed by members of the United States Department of Homeland Security, which included Customs and Border Protection Services. The White Funeral Pall was draped over Al’s casket by his daughter, Michelle and her husband, Lt Col (Ret) Ronald Tenaglia. The Crucifix was then placed by Al’s sister, Sister Rita Valle, RHSJ. The Old Testament reading was proclaimed by son-in-law, Lt Col (Ret) Ronald Tenaglia and The New Testament Reading by, great-grandson, Zachary Carroll. The Offertory Gifts were presented by granddaughter, Celeste Carroll and her husband, Aaron and great-grandsons, Zachary and Noah Carroll. Following communion Special Words of Remembrance were shared by grandsons, Lt Col John Tenaglia and Christopher Tenaglia.

Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from the Religious Hospitalers of St. Joseph and their Associates Program. The Sisters of Providence, The Missionary Sisters of Africa, The Religious Sisters of Mercy, Knights of Columbus, Fanny Allen Campus of Fletcher Allen Health Care, PAC, Franklin County Home Health Agency, Office of Doctor O.L. Dugan, Handy Chevrolet, Local Avon Representatives, Shear Sophistication, Hawks Nest, parish communities of Nativity and St. Francis Xavier and friends and neighbors from Dunning, Canada and Spring Streets.

Interment followed in the Valley / Ashley family lot in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery with Father Meagher assisted by Father Boucher reading the committal prayers. The bearers, all members of the Knights of Columbus, St. Edmund of Canterbury Council 7669, were Michael Fournier, Rene G. Fournier, Paul Delabruere, Nelson LaChapple, Leon Berthiaume and David Blondo.

Following The Prayers of Committal a Bereavement Luncheon for family and friends was served at the My-T-Fine II Restaurant in Highgate Springs hosted by Mrs. Nancy Paquette.

CHARLES R. BARRETT, SR.
ST. ALBANS CITY / SWANTON - Funeral Services were held Saturday, June 3, 2006, at 1p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE pastor of St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Alburgh and St. Joseph’s Mission, Isle La Motte officiated.

Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from Simply Divine Restaurant, Porter’s Bike Shop, and friends and neighbors from the Maiden Lane Apartments.

Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery with Father Boucher reading the committal prayers. The bearers were son-in-law, Kevin Beaumont; nephew, Sam Hansen; cousin, Paul Gebo; and friends, Chris Tipper, Ernie Clark and Scott Francalangia.

ETHEL C. BAKER
HIGHGATE FALLS - Mrs. Ethel C. Baker, 96, the widow of Oscar Baker, died Friday morning, June 2, 2006, at home with her daughter and caregiver, Nancy Boyer by her side.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced in a later edition of this newspaper.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton 05488.

APRIL SUE McKENZIE
MILTON - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for April Sue McKenzie, Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at 1 p.m. with Father John Feltz celebrating. Assisting Father Feltz at the altar were Eucharistic Ministers Shirley Parrotte, Barbara Campbell, and Wayne Lafyette. Lector was Denise Lavigne. The organist and soloist was Mary Jo Gillilan.
Words of remembrance were offered my John Cushing. The pall was placed on April’s casket by her husband, James McKenzie, her son, David McKenzie, and her daughter, Samantha McKenzie. The funeral procession stopped for a moment of reflection in front of The Double Tree Hotel, where April had worked. Interment followed in the McKenzie family lot in Resurrection Park Cemetery. Members of her family placed roses on the casket to show their affection for April.
Casket bearers were Chris Putzier Rick Miliken, Brent Farrell, Robert Lutz, and her sisters Jean Hudson and Robyn Miller.
Delegations in attendance were from the Double Tree Hotel, McKenzie Foods, Milton Town Offices, Richmond Fire Department, and many other friends and family.
On Tuesday evening, Father Feltz conducted a Christian Wake Service with April’s family in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel. Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

IRENE FLORENCE PERRAS
ST. ALBANS - Irene Florence Perras, 85, passed away on Tuesday evening, May 30, 2006, at the Northwestern Medical Center with her family at her side. She was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on Sept. 12, 1920, the daughter of the late Fred and Florence (Garceau) Conger. She was married on Aug. 15, 1953, to Norman E. Perras, who survives her.

Irene retired after 20 years of service at the former DesGosbriand Hospital in the housekeeping department.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Norman of St. Albans; her son, Richard Bittner and his wife, Rita of Milton; her two daughters, Darlene LeClaire and her husband, Roger of St. Albans and Sandra Root and her husband, Bernard of Orange City, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Pearl Bittner of Colchester; her sisters, Lorraine Gratton and her husband, Raymond of Montgomery, Helen Perron of Bethel, Elizabeth Rutz of Milton; her brother, Neil Conger and his wife, Marette of St. Albans; her sisters-in-law, Beverly Conger of Milton and Joyce Conger of St. Albans; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Fern and Helen Perras of St. Petersburg, Fla., Lucille Perras of St. Albans, Alice Perras of Seminole, Fla., Herman West of Seminole, Fla. and Vernon and Yoland Dawson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Irene was predeceased by her son, Fred Bittner; grandson, Ricky Bittner; three brothers, Donald, Robert and Ronald; her sister, Gladys Gaudette; her sister-in-law, Jeannine West; and her brothers-in-law, Maurice Perras and Gerald Perras.

At Irene’s request there will be no services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to send memorials in Irene’s name to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Assisting Irene’s family is the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.

CHARLES R. ‘CHUCK’ BARRETT, SR.
ST. ALBANS / SWANTON - Charles R. “Chuck” Barrett Sr., 60, a resident of this area for most of his lifetime, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 31, 2006, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

He was born in Swanton, April 24, 1946, the son of Charles S. and Lucille “Lucy” St. Francis. Lucy was later married to John Lapan and together they raised Chuck from the time he was a very young boy. Chuck attended St. Anne’s Academy in Swanton and received his GED in St. Albans.

Throughout his working life, Chuck was associated with many different businesses including a New Hampshire roofing company and Cota’s Service Station and Vermont Precision Tools in Swanton. He later worked for a number of different area taxi companies as a driver and for the past several years he owned and operated his own business, Chuck’s Taxi in St. Albans.

In his earlier years, Chuck had been a Golden Gloves Boxer. He loved hunting, fishing, target shooting, woodworking and building things and playing scratch tickets. But his greatest love was his children and as a devoted father he often sacrificed his own needs in order to provide them with whatever they wanted or needed.

Chuck is survived by his fiancée, Sandra J. Draper of St. Albans; his five children, Charles “Chuckie” Barrett of North Hero, Steven Barrett of New York, Norman and Christopher Barrett of St. Albans and Sandra Beaumont and her husband, Kevin of Swanton; his grandchildren, Kaylee, Courtney, Brandon, Andy, Dominic and Jacob; his former wife, Shirley A. Barrett of St. Albans; an uncle and aunt, John and Jean Barratt of Milton, N.H.; and several additional aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Chuck was predeceased by his father and his mother and stepfather.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006, at 1 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Maurice U. Boucher SSE, pastor of St. Amadeus Church in Alburgh, will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery in Swanton. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, prior to the funeral, from 12 to 1 p.m.

KATHERINE ANN DURENLEAU
ALBURGH - Katherine Ann Durenleau, 62, died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at Northwestern Medical Center following a long illness with her children at her side.

Katherine was born in Nashua, N.H. on Dec. 31, 1943, the daughter of George Edward Pelletier and Rosella Hull Beard.

She married John B. Dube, March 21, 1964, and they had three children, Patricia Ann, John William and Deborah Ann. On July 3, 1992, she married her second husband Rene Maurice Durenleau, who died on April 7, 2006.

Katherine was employed at Kay’s Restaurant in Alburgh for the last four years. There she enjoyed working with Sally, Allen, and Ray.

Katherine is survived by her three children, Patricia A. Lothian, John W. Dube and his wife, Lisa, and Deborah A. Bishop and her husband, Brian; her brothers, Loren Pelletier and George Pelletier; her step-father, Cleveland Beard; her twin brothers, Cleveland and William Beard; her sister, Gail Beard and her husband, Wayne Anderson; her grandchildren, Heather, Ethan, Cody, Miranda, Chad and Brianna; her nieces, Jackie Stati and Tracy Cullen; and a very special friend, Ray Benson.

Katherine enjoyed cooking, gardening and needlework. In her younger years she enjoyed camping and fishing with her family.

Visiting hours for friends and family will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006, from 1 to 2 p.m. and a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

EDWILDA L. O’BRIEN
ST. ALBANS / ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Mrs. Edwilda L. O’Brien, age 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, in the Rio Rancho Rehab and Nursing Center, in Albuquerque, following an extended illness. She was born in Georgia, Vt., Oct. 14, 1915, daughter of the late Alcide and Clara (Ferland) St. Denis.

For 19 years she was employed by H. P. Hood Company, as the chief clerk. She was married to Leonard Cote who was killed in action in World War II, Dec. 18, 1944. She later married Donald “Pat” O’Brien, who predeceased her on Jan. 8, 1975. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church, a member of the Ladies of St. Anne, American Legion, Green Mountain Auxiliary Unit 1, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert F. Glidden Auxiliary Unit 758 and the Franklin County Senior Citizens. Seven years ago she moved to Albuquerque to be near her daughter and family.

Her survivors include her daughter, Pamela and son-in-law Ramon Pacheco of Albuquerque, N. M.; her son, J. Michael and daughter-in-law, Priscilla O’Brien of Chesterfield, N. H.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Geri Pacheco, Shannon and Patrick Trujillo, Sean and Nancy O’Brien and Erin O’Brien; four great-grandchildren, Amanda Pacheco, Jake Trujillo, Casey-Rae Trujillo and Ian O’Brien; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Leonard, and husband Donald “Pat”, Edwilda was predeceased by her sisters, Alcina Thibault and Rita Gillespie, Sister Rolande St. Denis; and brothers, Fernand St. Denis and Urgel St. Denis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Angels Church, St. Albans, Saturday, June 3, 2006, at 10 a.m. The next day, June 4, 2006, is Edwilda and Leonard’s 60th wedding anniversary. The Ladies of St. Anne will form an honor guard at the funeral. Interment will follow at that time in the O’Brien family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the Ladies of St. Anne, 18 Smith Dr., St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

RENE M. ‘BING’ DURENLEAU
ALBURGH - Rene M. “Bing” Durenleau, age 79, died Friday evening, April 7, 2006, at the Haven Health Center in St. Albans Town.

Graveside Services and Interment with full military honors will take place Monday, June 5, 2006, at 11 a.m. from the Vermont Veterans Cemetery, Randolph, Vt. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will officiate. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.

NELLIE A. BURNOR
A Service of Death and Resurrection for Nellie A. Burnor, who passed away on May 20, 2006, was held on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Rice Hill United Methodist Church with the Reverends Lyle M. Miller Sr. and Kerry Cameron co-officiating. Music was provided by organist, Ruth Durkee.

Special music, “On Eagles Wings,” was sung by Steve Raymond and Reverend Cameron. Family reflections were by Reverend Cameron. A special tribute was given by Melanie Sartwell. Words of remembrance were shared by family friends, Ruth Lantman, Diana Sartwell and David Boudreau. A special reading, “Footprints in the Sand,” was by Nellie’s son-in-law, Robert Graham.

In attendance was representation from the Highgate Volunteer Fire Department, Franklin County Home Health Agency, Rice Hill United Methodist Church, Highgate United Methodist Church, Rice Hill Cemetery Association, the Big Foot Ranch of Colchester and Carol and Sonny Orfe, former owners of Green Mountain Construction.

Casket bearers were Maria Bessette, James Lapan, Ernest Lapan, Jack Lapan, Lawrence Lapan Jr., Cecil Wetherby, Wayne Bushey, Daniel Lavigne and Duane Tremblay.

A Service of Committal by Reverends Miller and Cameron followed at the family lot in Rice Hill Cemetery. Special music, “In the Garden,” was by Steve Raymond and Reverend Cameron. A Prayer Service was conducted on Tuesday evening with Nellie’s family and friends at the funeral home by Reverends Miller and Cameron.

Assisting Nellie’s family was the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
