William Green III
1937 - 2001
FAIRLEE — William E. "Ed" Green III, 64, of Fairlee, died Oct. 17, 2001 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, after a long battle with prostate cancer.
He was born Jan. 28, 1937 in Orford, the son of William E. Green Jr. and Phyllis (Boyer) Green.
He was educated in Orford schools and was a 1955 graduate of Proctor Academy.
Mr. Green enlisted in the United States Army and served in Alaska. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Orford where he worked at Equity Publishing Company.
For the past 25 years, he managed the A & W Artesian Well Company with local offices in Lebanon. Over the years, "Ed Green and his water machine" drilled hundreds of artesian wells throughout Vermont and New Hampshire.
In 1958, he married Donna Morris in Orford. They were divorced in 1969. He later married Barbara Walker Ackley. On July 3, 1993, he was married to Marjorie (Gaskill) Barry, and the couple have made their home in Fairlee ever since.
His memberships included Mt. Cube Lodge #10 in Orford and the BPOE Lodge #1665, Windsor.
Ed loved the outdoors, fishing and particularly hunting elk out west. He traveled extensively, snorkeling in the Caribbean and saltwater fishing near his home in Vero Beach, FL. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, photography, landscaping and building stone walls. He "hated leaving in the morning and could not wait to come every evening" to his home beside the Connecticut River in Fairlee. Most of all, Ed loved his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Green of Fairlee; three children, Kathryn Green of Lyme, William E. Green IV of Piermont and Thomas "Dan" Green of Lyme; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Ann Green of Orford and Elizabeth "Liz" Dane of East Concord, NH; numerous nieces and nephews; and his favorite cat, Daisy. He was predeceased by two sons, David Matthew Green and Clayton Mark Green; and one brother, William Peter Green.
Funeral services were held Oct. 20 at the family home in Fairlee. Burial was in the Orford Street cemetery.
Donations in Mr. Green's memory may be made to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03766; or to David's House, Mount Support Road, Lebanon, NH 03766.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hale Funeral Home of Bradford.

Winifred Elsner
1928 - 2001
HAVERHILL — Winifred Watson Elsner, 72, of Haverhill, died Oct. 19, 2001 at her home.
She was born in Boston, MA on Dec. 17, 1928, the daughter of Robert D. and Sydney W. (Tucker) Watson.
As a resident of Haverhill since 1972, she had become well known for her outstanding community volunteer services, beautiful braided rugs and hand knit garments.
Winifred was a member of the Haverhill Congregational Church, where he was married to her husband, Carlton, on April 30, 1972.
Family members include her husband, Carlton Elsner; one son, Lawrence Sullivan of Newburyport, MA; one grandson, Scott of Newburyport, MA; her beloved aunt, Mary Keenan of Boston; one brother, Robert G. Watson of Vermont; two nephews, Tucker and Schuyler of Vermont; one sister, Shirley Watson-Poole; and one niece, Chelsea Poole of Nova Scotia; and three stepdaughters, Pamela Elsner-Lowe of Leadville, CO, Gretchen Elsner of Etna Center, ME and Mariana Elsner of Sanbornton, NH.
There were no services. Memorial donations may be made to the Haverhill Library Association, Haverhill, NH 03765.
The Cremation Society of New Hampshire was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Butson
1925 - 2001
WELLS RIVER — Dorothy L. Butson, 76, of Wells River, died at her residence on Oct. 18, 2001.
She was born in Newbury April 3, 1925, the daughter of Ernest N. and Hazel (Webber) Longmoore.
Dorothy attended Leighton Hill School and graduated from Wells River High School and Lyndon State College
She taught for 40 years in Westville, Groton, Town Farm, Newbury, Ryegate Corner, Ryegate, Boltonville, and Newbury Town Central School.
She was predeceased by one brother, Robert Longmoore; and a nephew, Duane Perry.
Survivors include two brother, Donald and David Longmoore; two sisters, Evelyn Sheppard and Patricia Perry; and her nieces and nephews, Cheryl Duel, Donald Longmoore Jr., David, Steve, Norman and Bobby Longmoore, Pam Florentine, Cyndi Enger, David Sheppard, and Sherman, Philip and Daren Perry.
A graveside service was held Oct. 21 in Oxbow cemetery, Newbury.
Donations may be made to the Daughters of the American Revolution Oxbow Chapter, in care of Christina Hebert, 700 Brushwood Road, North Haverhill, NH 03774, for the placement and maintenance of the "Scott Highway" sign in Wells River.

Aurelio Venturini
1914 - 2001
WOODSVILLE — Aurelio "Reggie" Venturini, 87, of Woodsville, died Oct. 19, 2001 at Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill.
He was born Jan. 15, 1914 in East Ryegate, the son of Dante and Clelia (Benzi) Venturini.
Mr. Venturini graduated from Woodsville High School in 1932, New York Electrical School in 1934 and in 1937, he married Charlotte Chamberlin.
He worked for Green Mountain Power in Wells River for 40 years. In 1939, he started as a meter reader, was promoted to collector in 1940, and then district representative in 1950, retiring in 1979.
Following retirement, he and his wife wintered in St. Petersburg, FL, and in recent years, in Lady Lake, FL.
He was a member and former deacon of the Wells River Congregational Church, member and past president of the Woodsville-Wells River Rotary Club, past president of the Area Chamber of Commerce, an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener.
Mr. Venturini was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte C. Venturini, on June 21, 1995; and one brother, Guido Venturini.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Linda V. Maccini and her husband Joseph, and Judith Ann Savoy and her husband Robert, all of Woodsville; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Clark, Victoria Olsen, Charles Maccini and Mark Maccini; three great grandchildren; one sister, Fausta "Tina" Humphrey of Richmond, VA; his special friend, Dot Gaudette of Woodsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A calling hour will be held Oct. 23 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, Birch Lane, Woodsville. Funeral services will be Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Jane Wilson of the Wells River Congregational Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Pinehurst cemetery, South Ryegate.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wells River Congregational Church, in care of Barbara Beaulieu, PO Box 367, Wells River, VT 05081.

Mary Frazer
1922 - 2001
MONROE — Mary M. Frazer, 79, of Monroe, died Oct. 18, 2001 at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center.
She was born in Bath on Oct. 10, 1922, a daughter of John David and Marion (Philbrick) Mitchell Sr.
Mrs. Frazer graduated from McIndoes Academy, attended Brattleboro Business College, worked as a secretary for Cone Automatic Machine Company in Windsor, and was later the Deputy Town Clerk and Auditor for the Town of Monroe. She was also a licensed ambulance attendant for the Cottage Hospital Volunteer Ambulance Service.
She was a member of the Monroe Grange #49, Monroe Ladies' Aid, a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and was active in the preservation of McIndoes Academy.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, George L. "Junie" Frazer Jr. of Monroe; one daughter, Sandra St. Lawrence and husband Robert of Belmont, NH; two sons, George L. Frazer III and Peter Frazer and wife Rae, all of Monroe; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Marion Czarniki of Bristol, CT; and one brother, Allen "Mac" Mitchell of Varysburg, NY. She was predeceased by one sister, Helena Kelso Parker; and a brother, John D. Mitchell Jr.
A memorial services was held Oct. 21 in the Monroe United Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Hanson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe United Methodist Church, in care of Winston Currier, Harley View Drive, Monroe, NH 03771.

Marion Fitzgerald
1913 - 2001
NORWICH — Marion C. Fitzgerald, 88, of Norwich, died Oct. 19, 2001 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.
She was born March 22, 1913 in Thetford, the daughter of John A. and Hattie A. (Barker) Simonds.
She is survived by one son; two daughters; six grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Oct. 22 in Post Mills cemetery.
Donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Hale Funeral Home of Thetford Center was in charge of arrangements.

Betty Cross
1932 - 2001
POST MILLS — Betty Jean Cross, 69, died Jan. 21, 2002 at her home after a short illness.
She was born Feb. 29, 1932 in Fairlee, the daughter of Ray and Dorothy (Sanborn) Godfrey.
She attended schools in Fairlee and Bradford.
Mrs. Cross had been employed at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for more than 33 years.
She enjoyed wildlife, watching and feeding the birds and was an avid collector of frogs.
Mrs. Cross was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Gordon Cross, in April, 2001; and a brother, Elwood Godfrey.
Survivors include three sons, Gordon Clogston of Littleton, CO, Larry Clogston of East Thetford and Calvin Cross of Dover, NH; a daughter, Linda Emerson of Vershire; a stepdaughter, Jane Moquin of Tuner Falls, MA; a stepson, Robert Cross of Post Mills; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Beverly Godfrey of Shoreham, VT; two half brothers, Raymond Godfrey of Colchester, VT and Wayne Godfrey of Piermont; a stepbrother, Welton Johnson of Waitsfield, VT; a stepsister, Lynda Avery Tilden of Thetford; and her dog, "Rosco."
Funeral services will be held in the spring in Post Mills cemetery.
Donations in Mrs. Cross' memory may be made to Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire, Mount Support Road, Lebanon, NH 03766.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hale Funeral Home of Bradford and Thetford.

Morton Bailey
1911 - 2002
LYME — Morton B. Bailey, 90, of Lyme, died Jan. 20, 2002.
He was born March 29, 1911 in Lyme, the son of Frank and Mary (Ackerman) Bailey.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel R. and Morton R. Bailey, both of Lyme; a daughter, Deborah Kingsbury of West Fairlee; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held in the spring.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hale Funeral Home of Bradford and Thetford.

Christie Perkins
1900 - 2002
LYME CENTER — Christie Kate Perkins, 102, of Lyme, died Jan. 19, 2002 at the homestead where she was born 102 years ago.
She was the daughter of Adna and Addie M. (Hazen) Perkins.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held in the spring.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hale Funeral Home of Bradford and Thetford.
