PHILIP J. LEDOUX

SPRINGFIELD -- Philip J. Ledoux, 86, of Wall Street, died Wednesday afternoon at the Springfield Health & Rehab Center in Springfield, Vt. He was born July 10, 1915 in St. Albans Bay, Vt., the son of Wilfred and Mary (Sorel) Ledoux. He received his education at St. Anne's School in Swanton, Vt.

He was married to Rose Lemoine April 19, 1949, she predeceased him in 1969.

He served in the United States Army during WWII, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was employed at the Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield, Vt. for over 20 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Springfield and a Life Member of the Robert L. Johnson V.F.W. Post 771 in Springfield.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by one daughter and her husband, Lisa and William Daigle of Nashua, N.H., one grandsons, David Daigle of Nashua, N.H., and also by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Leopold, Alfred, Adrien, Edward, and Lawrence and also by one sister, Gertrude Ledoux.

Friends may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel, 99 Summer Street in Springfield; Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, Vt.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 65 Canada Street, Swanton, Vt. Reverend Paul C. Houde will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Swanton, Vt. Contributions may be made in his memory to David's House, Mtn. Support Road, Lebanon, NH 03766.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield and the Kidder Memorial Home in Swanton, Vt.

JAMES A. "JIMMY" MORGAN

SHELDON - James Alexander Morgan, 74, a resident of Sheldon for the past four years and St. Albans for the previous 11 years, passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at FAHC in Burlington following a brief illness.

He was born in Barre, Vt. Sept. 18, 1927, the son of the late James A.S. Morgan and Isabella (Davidson) Morgan. He was employed by Vermont Republic Industries from 1984 until 1998.

Jimmy was a 1950 graduate of Spaulding High School in Barre. He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball. He also loved music, dancing, the theater and traveling with his dear friend and former care giver, Russ Fisher. Together they went to the Grand Old Opry in Nashville, three times to Disney World in Florida, and made trips to Washington, DC and New York City. He was an ardent fan of Patti Page and Mickey Mouse and had a collection and memorabilia from both.

Jimmy's only living relative is a cousin, James W. Morgan of Barre. He does, however, leave a number of dear friends; Dorothy and John Bolduc, owners of the Napoli Home for the Aged, and Joyce Dudley, a care giver at the home, and all his friends there, where Jimmy resided for four years. He also leaves his boss and good friend, Bob Tatro at Vermont Republic Industries, as well as many of the workers at VRI with whom he was a friend. Others who were very special to Jimmy were Kath Berard-Brown, Heather Barrette, Tina Cross, Barb Paradee, Kaye Beaudry, Suzanne Leavitt, and all of his friends at the Senior Center.

A funeral service will be held in the Heald Funeral Chapel on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Pastor Pat Hoadley will officiate. Interment will be at 1 p.m. in the family lot in Hope Cemetery in Barre. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to either the Association for Cerebral Palsy, 73 Main St., Rm. 402, Montpelier, Vt. 05602 or The American Cancer Society, Vt. Division, Inc., 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602. Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 S. Main St., St. Albans.

GORDON K. BICKFORD

SWANTON/MANCHESTER, CONN. -- Gordon K. Bickford, 77, of Manchester, Conn., passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001.

Born in Hardwick, Vt., April 29, 1924, he grew up in Swanton, and was a graduate of St. Anne's Academy. He entered the U.S. Army's 70th Infantry Division in 1943 and served in Eastern Europe until 1946. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart and several campaign ribbons.

Upon returning to the U.S., he attended the University of Vermont, graduating in 1951 with a degree in English. He was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, Conn. from 1951 to 1983, as a sales representative for spare parts for both military and commercial jet engines. He traveled frequently to Europe, Africa and Australia. An avid sports enthusiast, Gordon enjoyed playing golf and coaching Little League Baseball and Midget Football. He followed the New York Giants, New England Patriots and especially the Boston Red Sox. He had a lifelong interest in classic literature, particularly the works of Ernest Hemingway.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ellen (Magnuson) Bickford and their children, Karin Bickford of Manchester, Robb Bickford and his wife Janice and their children Geoffrey and Katherine of Manchester and Cliff Bickford and his wife Sandy and their children Alyssa and Ethan of Richmond, Virginia. He is also survived by his daughters Donna Hodge Bickford of Delray Beach, Fla. and Kendra Sapala and her husband Pete and their family, Steve, Heather, Justin, Kenny and Mary of Phoenix, Ariz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father Paul C. Houde, parish administrator, will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment with full military honors will follow in the East Highgate Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manchester Scholarship Foundation, 20 Hartford Road, Manchester, Conn., 06040.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, Swanton, Vt.

HELEN L. (LOUCKS) LATTRELL

SOUTH BURLINGTON/SARANAC LAKE N.Y. -- Helen Laverne (Loucks), age 81, passed away late Saturday morning Sept. 22, 2001 at the Starr Farm Nursing Center in Burlington. She was born March 16, 1920 in Bemedji, Minn., daughter of the late Floyd Charles and Grace Elmina Loucks. She married Lawrence F. Lattrell on Aug. 22, 1952 in Elkton, Maryland. He predeceased her on April 11, 1990.

Helen was extremely devoted to her nursing career, training at Fordham Hospital in the Bronx before serving in N. Africa as a nurse in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. After the war she worked at Saranac Lake General Hospital as a registered Nurse from 1949 to 1974 and then Uihein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, N.Y. before retiring in 1990. Laverne's friends will always remember her for her kind and generous spirit. Her dedication as a nurse was truly a tribute to her profession.

She is survived by three sons, Stanley J. and his wife JoAnne of Austin, Texas, Walter E. and his wife Kathi of Fairfax, Charles J. and his wife Laurie of Fairfax, Charles J. and his wife Laurie of Aberdeen, S.D.; three step-daughters, Denise Ortrefoa and Fran Lattrell both of Winterhaven, Fla., Maxine O'Reilly and her husband Bill of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; two brothers, Richard Sibbitts and his wife Janice of Canton, N.Y., Ron Sibbitts and his wife Ortha of Canton, N.Y.; two sisters Lois Miller of Albany, N.Y., Jennie Wells and her husband Joe of Poughkeesie, N.Y., several grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at the family lot in Pine ridge Cemetery, Saranac Lake, N.Y. on Wednesday Sept. 26 2001 at 1 p.m. with Reverend Bill Neil of the First United Methodist Church offering committal prayers.

Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's memory to the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 509, Saranac Lake, N.Y. 12983. Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

KENNETH LEO HAKEY

SWANTON -- Kenneth Leo Hakey, 88, a lifelong resident of the Swanton community died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2001, in the VerDelle Village Extended Care Facility in St. Albans Town.

Ken was born in Swanton, Nov. 28, 1912, the son of the late Allie and Della (Greenia) Hakey.

In earlier years, Ken worked at the Jones Gravel Pit. He later became associated with the Central Vermont Railroad and retired after 35 years of service. Ken was well known throughout Swanton riding through the village first on his bicycle and later his motorized cart collecting bottles early in the morning and later working as a handyman and mowing lawns for many of the Swanton citizens. He also assisted his good friend Pat Paxman every year with the Swanton Summer Festival Project.

Ken is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Rhinehart of Ferrisburg as well as the Pat and Larry Paxman family of Swanton with whom he had made his home. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Bevins in 1996.

Pat and Larry wish to express their deepest gratitude to the management and staff of the VerDelle Village Extended Care Facility for all of their love, care and concern for Ken especially during his last days.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Paul C. Houde, administrator of Nativity and St. Louis Parishes will officiate. Interment will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

Gifts in Ken's memory may be made to, VerDelle Village Extended Care Facility Activity Fund, 596 Sheldon Road, St. Albans 05478.

HOWARD W. REYNOLDS

SWANTON -- Howard W. Reynolds, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001. He leaves his wife, Barbara, and two sons, Thomas and his wife Deborah and Robert and his wife Danielle, as well as a granddaughter Katie. Funeral services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home in Swanton.

LUCILLE EMMA (ROBERTS) TROMBLAY

COLCHESTER -- Lucille Emma (Roberts) Tromblay, 77, died peacefully in the presence of Jesus, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Sept. 21, 2001.

Lucille was born in Montpelier on Feb. 11, 1924, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Provencher) Roberts.

On Aug. 12, 1944, she married Leo Tromblay in Richmond. Leo predeceased her in 1989. She had been employed by the Woolen Mills in Winooski, Gabes, the Colchester Schools Lunch Program and worked along side her husband on the farm.

She had also belonged to the Catholic Daughters, the Colchester Grange and was a 4-H Leader for many years.

Mrs. Tromblay is survived by her children and their spouses, Lorrette and Paul Bourgeois of Vergennes, Linda Tromblay of Winooski, and Lucy and Wayne Trayah of Colchester. By her grandchildren Paula and Steven, Alaric and Margie, Lucille, Lon, and Ann, Leah and Joshua, Lori and Greg, Luan, Laban, and Val, Maurice, Michelle, Marilynn and Michael, Mattew and Rebecca, Melissa and Margaret; by her great-grandchildren Alex, Abigail, Andrew, and Ariel, Dustin, Chelsea, Alara and Jacob, Michaela and Emma, Annabelle and Joseph, Brianna and Hailey; by her brothers Henry, Gerard, Edward, William and Maurice Roberts; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter Valarie; a sister Jean Goodrich; and her brothers Andre, Leo, Paul, and Emile Roberts.

Lucille's family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Schneider and Dr. Fitzgerald, members of the Colchester and St. Michael's Rescue, the Colchester Police, the Agency on Aging, and the Medical Staff on Baird 4 and the ER at the FAHC.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 24, 2001 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Colchester, by the Rev. Francis Holland. Burial will follow in the East Cemetery in Williston. Memorials in Lucille's memory may be made to the Colchester Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 55, Colchester Vt. 05446, or to your favorite charity.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Sept. 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

ROGER K. SARGENT

COLCHESTER/ST. ALBANS -- Roger K. Sargent, 92, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001 in Redstone Villa in St. Albans, Vt. from a number of recent illnesses, including Alzheimer's.

He was born in Boston, Mass. on March 13, 1909, the son of Walter B Sargent and Ruth (Day) Sargent and moved to Burlington at the age of seven, where he received his education, graduating from Burlington High School in 1928, where it became his honor to present the Elliott Rice Memorial Trophy, starting in 1929 and continuing for nearly 60 years.

Roger married Marion Leslie, formerly of New York City, in 1939 and they were happily married for 59 years. Marion predeceased him in September of 1998.

Roger received his format education at Burdett Business College, Mass., and then returned to Vermont where he spent the remainder of his working career as owner/operator of Sargent's Studio, first in Burlington and later in St. Albans. He was a charter member of the Burlington Optimist Club International and while in St. Albans, a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Roger was very civic-minded and was a key player in promoting the acquisition of Burton Island, which became a State Park in 1962, with the help of Perry Merrill who then headed the Division of State Forests and Parks. After his retirement, he and his wife served as historical guides at the Shelburne Museum, and wintered in Manzanillo, Mexico for many years.

Roger was devoted to his family and loved the great outdoors, most especially the fall of the year where he, family and friends would gather at deer camp in Lincoln, Vt. He also loved feeding the raccoons that came to visit him each evening in Colchester to receive their portion of jelly donuts. His sense of humor and kind, caring and gentle nature will be missed by all who knew him. Thank you for all the helpless laughter, Papa.

He is survived by his two sons, Richard L. Sargent of St. Albans Town, formerly of Colchester, and Thomas D. Sargent of Georgia, and his wife Barbara (Ovitt) Sargent, along with his grandchildren, Deborah Woodward and her husband Joe Woodward of Georgia, and their children Julia Day and Mary Grace, and Melissa Sargent-Minor and her husband Shad Minot of Jeffersonville, and their children Jordan Ann and Loudon Thomas. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond Sargent of North Hero, and a cousin, Kay Chamberlin of Burlington, along with many nieces and nephews.

For those who wish, contributions may be made in Roger's name to the Lincoln Historical Society c/o 88 Quaker St., Lincoln, Vt. 05443.

A memorial service will be held at the Lincoln Town Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow. There will be no visiting hours.
