Scott Alan Cousino

Ferrisburgh -- Scott Alan Cousino, 34, of Ferrisburgh died unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005.

He was born in Stuttgart, West Germany, on Oct. 6, 1970, the son of Marcel and Zandra (Flynn) Cousino.

He attended grades 1-6 at Monkton Central School. He went to the vocational center for his junior and senior year for forestry, and graduated from Mount Abraham Union High School in 1988. At the time of his death he was employed by All Cycle in Williston.

He is survived by a son, Garrett Cousino, and a daughter, Tanika Cousino; his parents, Zandra and Marcel Cousino of Monkton; a sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Randy Farnsworth of Middlebury; a brother, Ryan Cousino of Monkton; a niece and a nephew; and his children's mother, Denise Cousino of Bristol. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Bridget Cousino of Monkton and his maternal grandparents, Olin and Eunice Flynn of Ferrisburgh; his aunts and uncles, Michael and his wife, Connie Cousino; Levi and his wife, Margot Cousino; Victor and his wife, Penny Cousino; Helen Cousino, and Iona Smith and her husband Loren, Kevin Flynn and his wife Terry; Mari Quesnel and her husband, Paul, Shari Lussier and her husband, Roger, and Timmy Flynn and his wife, Erica; and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his great- grandmother, Madeline Flynn, his great-grandfather, Felix Cousino, and an uncle, Maurice Cousino.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at St. Ambrose Church in Bristol, with interment in Mount St. Joseph cemetery in Bristol.
Contributions may be made to a trust fund for his children, Garrett and Tanika Cousino c/o Chittenden Bank, Middlebury, VT 05753, or Monkton Fire Dept. 3747 State Prison Hollow Rd., Bristol, VT 05443.

Margaret (Peggy) Stuart Chree

Rutland -- Margaret (Peggy) Stuart Chree, 92, a former Brandon resident, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in New York City, the daughter of Robert S. and Jane Chree. She graduated from Fort Lee High School in Fort Lee, N.J., class of 1929. She worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in New York City for 50 years, retiring in 1974.

She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Association, in Westfield, N.J., for many years. She lived in Brandon from 1974 until 2003.

She belonged to St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Brandon and had worked as a volunteer at The Brandon Thrift Shop for many years. She was an avid reader.

Surviving is her sister, Grace Venables of Rutland; two nieces, Barbara Carrara of Pittsford and Jean Piazza of Phillipsburg, N.J.; great-nephews, Jeffrey Carrara, Samuel Carrara and Robert Taylor; a great-niece, Alison Taylor; a great-great-nephew, Keith Jonathan Carrara; and a great-great-niece, Felicia Carrara.

The memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Brandon. Burial will be private.

There are no public calling hours.

R. Kenyon Bird

Bristol -- R. Kenyon Bird, 80, died on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Agawam, Mass.

He was born Nov. 12, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Roger Parkhurst and Ethelyn (Fairchild) Bird.

After graduating from high school in Mamaroneck, N.Y., he attended Dartmouth College until he enlisted in the Army during World War II. Later he joined the family business in Boston, Mass., where he worked for many years as Vice President of M.T. Bird & Company. After an early retirement, he worked as an independent insurance adjuster throughout the state of Vermont for Allied Insurance.

He was predeceased by his wife, Joan B. Bird, who died Dec. 24, 2004, and his sister, Joy Ethelyn Kingsley.

He is survived by four daughters, Judith B. Purcell of Pelham, Mass., Linda B. Rausch of West Hartford, Conn. Patricia Jo Bird of Boston and Sheryl J. Bird of Marlborough, Mass.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and four nieces and a nephew.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, in Bristol, followed by interment at Greenwood cemetery.

Ruth (Yattaw) Thorsen

Port Orange , Fla./ Vergennes -- Ruth (Yattaw) Thorsen, born Jan. 14, 1915, in Vergennes, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 2, 2005, in Daytona Beach, Florida after an extended illness.

She was predeceased by her parents, Roy C. and Florence (Yattaw) Yattaw; her husband, Nels Thorsen; and her brother, Kenneth R. Yattaw.

She is survived by her son, James, and his wife, Catherine; a daughter, Sonja (Mrs. William) McGough; her sister, Sylvia (Mrs. Martin) Casey; a grandson and two granddaughters; and a cousin and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will take place in the family plot in Prospect cemetery in the spring.

Margaret "Maggie" K. Cota

MONKTON -- Margaret "Maggie" K. Cota, 61, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at her home, surrounded by family.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1943, in Middlebury, the daughter of Robert and Kathleen (White) Brown.

She grew up on a farm in Panton that was owned by her grandfather, Warren White, then moved to Burlington. In 1961 she married Robert Cota.

She loved arts and crafts. She was an avid sewer and cook, making many wedding cakes and birthday cakes. She enjoyed going to the fair, especially Tunbridge Fair.

She was a member of the Friends Church in Monkton, Home Dem and the Sunshine Club.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert Cota of Monkton; two daughters, Sharon and her husband, Danny George, of Newport, N.H., and Amy Chamberlain and her companion, Shawn Gokey, of Georgia; a son, Dale Cota of Bristol; two grandchildren; her mother, Kathleen Brown of Burlington; two sisters, Barbara and her husband, Jerry Bilodeau, of Virginia, and Diane Brown of Panton; a brother, Donald Brown of Burlington; two uncles and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday in Bristol. Interment will be in Monkton Ridge cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monkton First Response, or to Addison County Home Health and Hospice P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Marjorie Smith

Rutland -- Marjorie Smith, 93, passed away on March 17, 2005, at Rutland Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1911, in Pawtucket, R.I., daughter of Lewis and Florence (Heyworth) Chadwick. She was employed by Middlebury College as secretary to the dean.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Sue Wetmore and her husband George, of Brandon; two grandsons, Jeffrey Wetmore of Colchester and Christopher Wetmore of Orlando, Fla.; a great-grandson, Ryan Wetmore of Williston; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Elizabeth Taylor of Granville, N.Y., and her long-time caregiver, Marion Stearns of Rutland.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Marjory R. Schreier

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Marjory R. Schreier, 90, of Middletown, Conn., formerly of Cromwell, wife of the late Charles A. Schreier, died Sunday, March 27, at Portland Care and Rehabilitation in Portland, Conn.

Born on March 21, 1915, in Addison, Vt., she was the daughter of Harry and Vesta (Putnam) Cross. She graduated from Vergennes (Vt.) High School in 1933, and the School of Domestic Science in Boston in 1935. She lived in Cromwell most of her life and was a member of the Cromwell Seniors.

She is survived by two sons, Frank H. Schreier of Portland and Charles C. Schreier and his wife, Karen, of Wallingford, Conn.; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Charlene Ruth Schreier.

Graveside services will be held at West cemetery, Cromwell, on Friday, April 1, at 1 p.m.
Friends may call at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main St., Cromwell, Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1005, Meriden, CT 06450.

Dorothy Mae Rivers

BRANDON -- Dorothy Mae Rivers, 77, died Friday, March 25, 2005, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Proctor on Aug. 20, 1927, the daughter of Henry and Bernice (Mallory) Harris. She attended Brandon schools and graduated from Brandon High School in 1946. In her earlier years, she was actively involved in the operation of the family farm.

She was a founding member of The Neshobe Golf Course, in 1958, and a member of Vermont Women's Golf Association. She was a lifelong member of Neshobe Golf Club and was the women's club champion for many years.

She was a housewife and homemaker. She enjoyed her gardening and flowers and loved going to the farmer's market.

Surviving are her husband, Richard N. Rivers of Brandon, whom she married in Brandon on Jan. 12, 1948; two sons, Brian Rivers of Brandon and Richard H. Rivers of Stockbridge; three grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.

She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Harris.

The funeral service was held on Monday in Brandon. The Rev. K. Bevan, pastor of Brandon United Methodist Church, officiated.

A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Pine Hill cemetery.

Barbara R. (Sullivan) Leach

VERGENNES -- Barbara R. (Sullivan) Leach, 75 died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at her home in Vergennes.

She was born May 18, 1929, in Cranston, R.I., the daughter of Leo and Anne (Guyette) Sullivan.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Anne Society, and VUHS Booster Club in Vergennes.

She is survived by her husband, Harold James Leach Sr. of Vergennes; six sons. Harold James Leach Jr. and his wife Eileen, Paul S. Leach, William T. Leach, James E. Leach, and John P. Leach all of Vergennes, Robert W. Leach and his wife, Gail, of Addison; a daughter, Sarah V. Leach of Vergennes; two granddaughters and a grandson; a sister, Dot Kennedy of Greenwich, R.I; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment will be in Prospect cemetery in Vergennes. There will be no public calling hours.

RACHEL H. GORDON

VERGENNES -- Rachel H. Gordon, 83, died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born in Bristol on Jan. 26, 1922, the daughter of Harvey and Fanny (Rushlow) Garapy.

She is survived by six children and their spouses, Marie and Ernest Benoit of North Ferrisburgh, William and Joann Gordon of Grand Isle, Cynthia and Robert Patti of Colchester, Linda and John Fuller of Wisconsin, Elaine Marro of Panton, Roger and Cheryl Gordon of Forestdale, and an adopted daughter, Katherine Orvis of Lincoln; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Faith Cordle of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; two brothers and their wives, Richard and Bernadine Garapy of Springfield, and Lee and Jean Garapy of New York; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, LeRoy Gordon, in 1989; a son, Gene Roy Gordon; and four grandchildren, Bernard Gordon, Antonio Prouty, Natashe Jewell and Nicole Lynn Frost.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at North Ferrisburgh United Methodist Church. Interment will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Addison County Home Health and Hospice, Middlebury, VT 05753.

ANNETTE CAMPEAU

Rutland -- Annette Campeau, 87, passed away on March 27, 2005, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.

She was born on Nov. 10, 1917, in Ontario, Canada, daughter of Orphila and Rose-Anna (Quesnel) Leduc. She married Omer Campeau in Moose Creek, Ontario, in 1939, and they moved to Vermont in 1947. They lived in the Middlebury area until 1983, and then relocated to Florida. Her husband predeceased her in 1986, and Annette moved back to Vermont in 2002. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Middlebury.

Mrs. Campeau is survived by one son, Allan, and his wife, Anita of Brandon, and one daughter, Estelle Chandler and her husband, Allen, of Spring Hill, Fla.; and a sister, ReJean Campeau of Ontario, Canada. Also surviving are four grandchildren, John Chandler and his wife, Tina, of Florida, Kevin Chandler and his fiancé, Joanne McCroskey, of Rutland, Alison Campeau and her fiancé, Shawn Hendee of Pittsford and Alicia Campeau and her boyfriend Scott Quenneville, of Proctor, and three great-grandchildren, Nicole, David and Samantha Chandler of Florida.

She was predeceased by her husband; four brothers, Oscar, Lionel, Eugene and Maurice Leduc; and three sisters, Alice Vanier, Yvonne Leroux, and Flore Racine.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, March 30, at St. Mary's Church in Middlebury.

Ralph C. Baslow

Enfield, N.H. -- Ralph C. Baslow, 63, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction, Vt.

He was born in Burlington, Vt., on May 21, 1941, the son of Cloise R. and Bernice (Cram) Baslow. He was raised and attended school in Bristol, Vt.

He spent many years as a fire warden on several look-out mountains in northern Vermont. He was a seasoned woodsman and avid sportsman, and loved to travel, living several years in Florida and Alaska.

He is survived by his parents, of Bristol; two sons, Cloise (Peanut) Baslow of North Ferrisburgh, Vt., and Kenneth Baslow of Enfield, N.H.; a daughter, Melonie Baslow of Mt. Dora, Fla.; three sisters, Claudia (Rose) Eastman of Colebrook, N.H., Cindy Kimball of Lincoln, Vt., and Laura Foster of Bristol; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Baslow.
Graveside services will be held at the Mount St. Joseph cemetery in Bristol on Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m.

Barbara Duclos

UNIONVILLE, Conn. — Barbara Duclos, 72, died with her family around her on Monday, Aug. 22, 2005.

She was born in North Tarrytown, N.Y., on April 7, 1933. After moving to Bethel, Vt., she met and married her husband, Lawrence “Duke” Duclos. They moved to Connecticut and started a family.

Her greatest joys were her family and her faith, which sustained her through her long illness.

Along with her husband, she is survived by her son, Scott, and his wife Dawna; her daughter, Lori Croft, and husband Geoff; six granddaughters; her sisters-in-law Winifred Dwire, Lucile Tierney and Delphine Palmore; and generations of nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. in St. Ambrose Church in Bristol, Vt., followed by burial in Mt. St. Joseph cemetery in Bristol. There will be no calling hours.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Lung Association of Vermont, 30 Farrell St. South Burlington, VT 05403.
