Elon Y. Patno, 74, died at his home surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday afternoon, July 22, 2008.

Elon was born on Jan. 6, 1934, in Burlington, the son of Ellsworth and Pearl (Prouty) Patno.

He was married to Virginia (Adams) Patno, who died on Jan. 21, 2006.

Elon loved home and commercial construction and operating heavy machinery. He had been employed by the town of South Hero for over seven years.

He is survived by his sons, Paul of South Hero, and Glenn and his wife, Tina, of Grand Isle; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Fay Chamberlain and husband, Donald, of Grand Isle, Ruth Fienemann of Colchester, Lee Patno and his wife, Judy, of Rutland, Sandy Sweeny and husband, Raymond, of St. Albans Bay, and Gary Patno and his wife, Margo, of Georgia. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Ruth Barrows, Irene Adams, Ann Adams; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Lance Eric Patno on March 11, 1960; and by a brother, Ellsworth “Bud” Patno.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, at 10 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

Memorials in Elon’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 121 Conner Way, P.O. Box 1460, Williston, Vt. 05495.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

ALMIRA J. HORTON
St. Albans Town

Funeral services for Mrs. Almira Jean Horton were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Celebrating the Eucharist and the life of Almira was the Rector Jean Austin. Deacon James Ballard assisted and proclaimed the Most Holy Gospel.

As Almira entered the church, the Senior Warden Carolyn Fouts and Directress of the Altar Guild Carolyn Murray placed the Funeral Pall on her casket. The Processional and Recessional was escorted by Crucifer Bearer Warren Hamm. Warren also read the Prayers of the Faithful. The Hebrew Scripture was read by granddaughter Emily Dunsmore and Psalm 46 read by granddaughter Robin Hartman. Fond memories and reflections were shared by grandson Stephen Horton. Donna Costes was the organist and Claire Hungerford was the soloist. James and Carolyn Fouts and Carolyn Murray were ushers.

Almira’s requests for hymns were “I Sing a Song of the Saints of God,” “Onward Christian Soldiers,” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

Attending were members of the St. Luke’s Altar Guild, Franklin County Quilters Guild, Franklin County Business and Professional Women, Bellows Free Academy Class of 1941, Franklin County Historical Society, Autonoe Club, Vermont “251" Club, Northwestern Medical Center Staff, Synergy Orthopedics Staff, Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Albans Public Library, Franklin County Probate Court, Peoples Trust Bank, S. B. Collins, Inc., Office Qtrs., many neighbors and parishioners of St. Luke’s Church and St. Albans Bay Methodist Church.

With her loving children the funeral was attended by all her special grandchildren and their spouses Susan and Nick Bellarosa, Stephen Horton, George "Tucker” Horton and his fiancée Rosemary, Kathleen and Jim Grmek, Sean and Jennifer Horton, Justin and Leigh Horton, Wliza and Nathan Pearo, Christopher and Michelle Krause, Robin and Kyle Hartman, Matthew Meagher, Emily Horton Dunsmore and Adam Dunsmore, some coming from several areas of the United States.

Bearers were her grandsons, Sean Horton, Justin Horton, Matthew Meagher, Christopher Krause, Stephen Horton, George “Tucker” Horton and Adam Dunsmore.

Following prayers of Final Commendation, Almira’s family invited everyone attending to Bill Horton’s home for a time of sharing and refreshments.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

JAMES F. MILLER
Lakeland Fla./Enosburg Falls

James F. "Jim" Miller, 79, died at his home on June 12, 2008. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, and was residing in Lakeland, Fla. and Enosburg Falls, Vt.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corp in the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired from public relations in 1986. He was a member and former president of the Public Relations Society of America, the Rotary Club, and Highland Fairways Golf Club. He was also a member of the Enosburg Falls Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Madeline McDermott-Miller; his children, Jeffery Miller and his wife of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jennifer Shimp and her husband of Miamisburg, Ohio; his grandson, Austin Shimp; his step-children, Mark McDermott, Patty McDermott and her husband, and Peter McDermott and his wife, all of Enosburg Falls, Vt., Nancy McDermott and her husband of Newark, Vt., and Mary Ann McDermott Reynolds and her husband of Sheldon, Vt.; as well as many step-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Highland Fairways Golf Club, c/o Larry Hasting, 3208 Pebble Bend Drive, Lakeland, FL 33810; or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1460, Williston, VT 05495.

A private graveside service will be held at the family's convenience.

Spears Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

PFC JOSHUA A. MAXHAM
BAKERSFIELD

PFC Joshua A. Maxham, age 19, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, June 18, 2008, in Fairfield on his way home. He was born Sept. 27, 1988, son of Charles Maxham Sr. and Jan (Smith) Metivier. He married Meagan Walker, July 15, 2006. He was serving his country in the Vermont Army National Guard as an E3 small arms repairer. He also worked for the Barry Callebaut Company in manufacturing.

He is survived by his wife, Meagan; their two daughters, Syvainnah Mackenzie and Miah Jade Maxham, all of Bakersfield; his parents, Charles Maxham Sr. and Jan Metivier; his brother and sister, Charles Maxham Jr. and Miranda Smith; half sister and brothers, Lauren, Travis, and Julien; his mother and father-in-law, Laura and Scott Reed; and brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Nichole Reed, all of St. Albans; along with several aunts, nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Angela Lawrence; and uncles, Joseph Smith and David Robtoy Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 23, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Holy Angels Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the Mass.

Memorials may be made to a trust fund that has been established for his daughters in care of Peoples Trust Company, 25 Kingman St., St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

ELFRIEDE HOFMANN CORWELL

Mrs. Elfriede Hofmann Corwell, age 78 years, wife of Roswell Corwell, died Monday afternoon, June 30, 2008, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Marjorie Gage, pastor of the Missisquoi River Charge of the United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral.

PAUL M. BOUCHARD
Franklin/St. Albans

Mr. Paul M. Bouchard, age 76, died early Thursday morning, July 17, 2008, in the Franklin County Rehab Center with his loving family at his bedside. Paul was born in Enosburgh, July 7, 1932, son of the late Armand and Oliva (Chevigny) Bouchard.

Paul served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict and returned to St. Albans to become a firefighter for the City of St. Albans for several years. He also was a fuel oil delivery driver and became the only local Chimney Sweep. As retirement neared he was a caretaker of St. Mary’s Church property, until his illness forced retirement. Besides being a communicant of St. Mary’s, he was a longtime member of the choir, a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1, and the Vermont Right To Life.

He is survived by his "Honey," a name they called each other for over 54 years, Claire Montcalm Bouchard of Franklin; four daughters, Jacqueline Bouchard of Highgate, Wendy and her husband, Thomas Porwitzky, of St. Albans, Rachel and her husband, George Berno, of St. Albans, LeeAn and her husband, Michael Pontikos, of Grand Island, N.Y.; two sons, Timothy Bouchard and his friend, Robin Paveglio, of Concord, N.H., Christopher and his wife, Natalie Bouchard, of Franklin; two sisters, Ruth and her husband, Earl Poland, and Claire Ashline, all of St. Albans; 21 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 19, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be in the Bouchard family lot in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Shirley M. Saunders passed away on Monday afternoon, July 28, 2008, at the home of her daughter, Tonya, on the Kellogg Road.

DIANE GAIL HIBBARD
MILTON

Diane Gail Hibbard, 55, died peacefully Monday morning, July 28, 2008, at her home with her loving family and sister, Joni, by her side.

Diane was born on Sept. 5, 1952, in Burlington, the daughter of Arthur and Ida (Picard) Savoy.

She married Langford “Lanny” Hibbard on July 25, 1970, in the United Church of Milton. Together they settled on part of the Hibbard Farm in Milton and began their family.

Diane loved being in her flower gardens and walking with her sister Joni. She especially took great joy and pride in her grandchildren.

In addition to Lanny, Diane is survived by her children, Tonya Bidwell and husband, Philip, Talina Hibbard and fiancé, Bryant Perry, Trinda Hibbard and fiancé, Jason Shappy, and Troy Hibbard and fiancée, Carol Jacobs, all of Milton. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael, Carmen, Paige, Sydney, Noah, Tatum, Gage, Spencer, Owen, Ava and Taylor Diane; by her brothers and sisters, Ronald Savoy and wife, Lorraine, of California, Roy Savoy and wife, Nancy, of Nebraska, Nancy Cota and husband, Rob, of Monkton, Donna Savoy and companion, Willard Jocelyn, of Lowell, John Savoy and wife, Sue, of Essex, Duane Savoy of Berkshire, and Joni Sawyer and husband, Jerry, of Milton; and by several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks are given to Joni - not only Diane’s sister, but also her best friend, who was by her side from the beginning to the end.

Diane was predeceased by her father, Arthur, in 1997; and mother, Ida Savoy, in 2002.

For those who wish, memorials in Diane’s memory may be made to either the VNA Hospice Program, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446; or to the ALS Association, Development Dept. 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 250, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301.

There will be no funeral services at this time. However, friends are invited to visit with her family at the Minor Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, July 30, 2008, from 6 to 9 p.m.

ENZO L. ‘KNOBBY’ FERRARI
HYDE PARK / ST. ALBANS

Enzo L. “Knobby” Ferrari, 90, died peacefully Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Clark’s Residential Care Home in Hyde Park. He was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Barre, the son of Joseph and Carrie Ferrari.

As a young man, Enzo worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was employed for many years as a custodian. Most recently he worked as a guardian ad litem through the Vermont District Court in St. Albans and was active in the Foster Grandparent Program. He was an avid New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by his son, Michael Ferrari, of Belvidere Center; his longtime friend and companion, Cecile Murphy, of Swanton; a niece, Carol Perras Burt of Florida; nephews, Eolo Perras of Williamstown and Edward Ferrari of Barre; and his former wife, Bessie Corlis of Hillsboro, N.H. He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers; and a sister.

Enzo’s family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. Interment will be at the convenience of his family.
