Beverly T. Tomasi

WINDSOR - Beverly T. Tomasi, 85, died Jan. 18, 2001, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.

She was born June 27, 1915, in St. Johnsbury, daughter of John W. and Mary (Grant) Tinker.

After her family moved to Bennington, she graduated from high school there and later from Dental Assistant School in Albany, N.Y.

She married Howard R. Stearns on Oct. 5, 1940, in Windsor. He died in 1957. She later married Dr. Lawrence J. Tomasi on Nov. 5, 1965, in Windsor. He died in 1992.

Mrs. Tomasi was Dr. Tomasi's dental assistant for many years.

Her hobbies included music and playing the piano.

Survivors include a son, Bruce W. Stearns of Windsor; a daughter, Nancy J. LaBounty of Hartford; a stepson, Thomas Tomasi of Windsor; a stepdaughter, Patricia Garmel of Windsor; a sister, Esther Douglas of Lenox, Mass.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by seven sisters; and three brothers.

The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor with the Rev. Carter Adriance, pastor of the Rachel S. Harlow United Methodist Church in Windsor, officiating. Burial will follow in Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.

Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center, 289 County Road, Windsor, 05089.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home.

Arthur F. Howard

HARWICH, Mass. - Arthur "Whitey" F. Howard, 68, died Jan. 19, 2001, at Hospice House in Barnstable after a brief illness.

He was born in Hanson, son of Thadeus D. and Cora M. (Brown) Howard.

He was raised in Hanson and graduated from high school there. After graduation Mr. Howard was drafted by the Boston Braves' baseball club, and he played with the Braves' minor league club for a few seasons.

He and his family moved from Hanson to Harwich in 1971.

Mr. Howard married Agnes V. Crowley. She died in 1995.

He had worked as a house painter, electrician, bar tender and automobile mechanic.

Survivors include six children, Theresa McNamara of Proctorsville, Vt., Ellen Eldredge, Thomas Howard, Marilou Fair and Steven Howard, all of Harwich, and Diane McNamara of Cavendish, Vt.; a brother, Russell Howard of Hanson; a sister, Marjorie Bates of Hanson; 12 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and five nieces.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Doane, Beal and Ames, 260 Main St., West Harwich. Interment will be held in Island Pond Cemetery in Harwich.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Hospice House, 88 Railroad Ave., Barnstable, 02630.

Eva E. Horsman

BENNINGTON - Eva "Nana" E. Horsman, 85, died Jan. 19, 2001, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

She was born April 17, 1915, in Salisbury, Mass., daughter of John and Laura (Thurlo) Solmon.

She attended schools in Salisbury and graduated from Amesbury High School.

She married Bliss K. Horsman on April 14, 1935, in New Hampshire. He died in 1985.

Prior to moving to Vermont in 1975, Mrs. Horsman had lived in Malden, Mass., where she had worked in the restaurant business.

She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Malden.

Survivors include a son, David Kenneth Horsman of Malden, Mass.; a daughter, Beverly Sigsbury of Bennington; two brothers, Clyde Solmon of Somerset, Mass., and Donald Solmon of Yarmouth Port, Mass.; a sister, Carmen Harbin of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a son, John D. Horsman, who died in 1995; a grandson who died in 1996; and a sister, Gloria Dexter.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bennington, officiating. Burial will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Vermont Lung Association, in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.

Rachel C. Adams

HARTLAND - Rachel C. Adams, 70, died Jan. 18, 2001, at her home.

She was born Sept. 8, 1930, daughter of Carroll and Arlene (Darling) Williams.

She attended Windsor High School.

She married Donald F. Adams on Jan. 19, 1974, in Randolph Center. He died in 1998.

Mrs. Adams worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Windsor. She later moved to Derry, N.H., where she worked at the heel factory until moving back to the Upper Valley, where she worked at Thermal Dynamics in West Lebanon, N.H., until retiring.

She was a former member of the Emblem Club and Eagles Club, both in Derry, N.H.

Her hobbies included snowmobiling with her husband.

Survivors include two sons, Calvin Maxham of North Hartland and Earl Maxham of Hartland; a stepson, Ed Kimball of White River Junction; three stepdaughters, Nancy Maxham of Hartland, Barbara Rodgers of Enfield, N.H., and Marian Wimett of White River Junction; a brother, Wilbur Williams of Ascutney; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Donald Maxham, who died in 1987.

The funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction. Burial will be held at a later date in the Hartland Village Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home.

Lawrence W. Zern

MIDDLEBURY - Lawrence W. Zern, 67, died Jan. 18, 2001 at Fletcher Allen Health Care after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Niota, Ill., son of Widney T. and Gladys (Little) Zern.

Mr. Zern married Ellen Sears on Aug. 2, 1953, at St. Stephen's Church.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1988 after 34 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska.

Mr. Zern was a life member of American Legion Post 27 in Middlebury.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Robert Zern of Middlebury; four sisters, Faye Brown and Patricia Hocker of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Joan Hinman and Rachel Siemans of Niota, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

The graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Service.

L. Keith Campbell

RANDOLPH - L. Keith Campbell, 97, died Jan. 18, 2001, at Menig Extended Care Facility in Randolph.

He was born Feb. 11, 1903, in Washington, son of Edgar and Edith (Kibby) Campbell.

He was raised in Brookfield and Randolph and graduated from Randolph Graded School and Vermont Agricultural School.

Mr. Campbell married Leola Carpenter in 1932. She died in 1995.

He operated a farm in Randolph and had worked for Green Mountain Stock Farm. He had also raised mink and retired from Ethan Allen in Randolph, where he had been a machine operator.

His hobbies included playing baseball on Randolph teams, gardening, fishing, hunting, trapping and bee keeping.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence Campbell of North Clarendon; three daughters, Corinne Harrness of Randolph, Joyce Merrill of Hardwick and Rebecca Hedding of Rutland; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth Campbell, Victor Campbell and Gordon Campbell; and a sister, Inella Campbell.

The funeral will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home with the Rev. Kathy Eddy officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Pleasant View Cemetery in Randolph.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Menig Extended Care Facility, 44 South Main St., Randolph, 05060.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Irene Mary (Rivers) Comes

EAST MIDDLEBURY - Irene Mary (Rivers) Comes, 69, died Jan. 19, 2001, at the Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury, after a long illness.

She was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Waitsfield, the daughter of Earl and Bertha (Nichols) Rivers. She graduated from Waitsfield High School in 1949. She married Jasper T. Comes June 3, 1950, in Waitsfield, and they later moved to East Middlebury. He died Dec. 4, 2000.

Mrs. Comes enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, camping and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Angela Wade and Thomas Comes, both of Middlebury; Michael Comes of Great Falls, Mont.; Randy Comes of Salisbury; and Timothy Comes of East Middlebury; three brothers, Earl Rivers Jr., Dick Rivers and Lloyd Rivers; three sisters, Marion Rogers, Polly Brocha and Theresa Rushford; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Two brothers, Archie and Kenneth Rivers, are deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Sanderson Funeral Chapel in Middlebury. The Rev. John McDermott, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, will officiate. Graveside committal services and burial will take place in the spring at the Prospect Cemetery in East Middlebury.

Gloria P. Frankiewicz

RUTLAND - Gloria P. Frankiewicz, 78, died Jan. 19, 2001, at Willowood of Williamstown in Williamstown, Mass.

She was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Rutland, the daughter of Aristide and Ida (Franzoni) Piccini.

She was a 1940 graduate of Rutland High School, and a graduate of Rutland Business College.

Mrs. Frankiewicz was a member of St. Peter's Church and the Rutland Garden Club.

Survivors include her husband, Thaddeus A. Frankiewicz of Rutland; a son, David T. Frankiewicz of Alpharetta, Ga.; a daughter, Amy Jackson of Wells; a brother, Harry Piccini of Essex Junction; three sisters, Madeline Louras of Rutland, Lea Crowley of Cape Cod, Mass., and Vera Walsh of St. Simonds Island, Ga.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A son, Todd Frankiewicz, is deceased.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Peter's Church. Burial will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Clifford Funeral Home.

Noreen F. Halpin

MIDDLEBURY - Noreen F. Halpin, 84, died unexpectedly at the Porter Medical Center Emergency Room. Arrangements are pending with the Sanderson Funeral Service in Middlebury.
