Laverne Spencer

Funeral services for Laverne Gallagher Spencer, 80, of Rutland, who died Saturday, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Christ the King Church. Officiating will be her nephew, the Rev. William P. Gallagher, pastor of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Woodstock.

Among the survivors is a niece and her husband, Kathy and Randy Colomb of Vergennes, Vt.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Frances D. Gallagher and James J. Gallagher.

The Clifford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lettie G. Ricketts

DANBY - Lettie G. Ricketts, 84, of Danby, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at her home.

She was born May 4, 1916, in Danby, the daughter of Myron and Eva (Phillips) Sherman.

Mrs. Ricketts was a longtime resident of Danby and for several years helped her husband run their farm.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Asil Ricketts of Danby; four daughters, Rose Morris of Goshen, Martha Ricketts, Ella Easter and Sarah Ricketts, all of Danby; four sons, Albert Ricketts of Tinmouth, Harrison Ricketts of Chittenden, Daniel Ricketts and Frank Ricketts, both of Danby; a sister, Alice Collins of Wallingford; two brothers, Arthur Sherman and Edward Sherman, both of Tinmouth; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Doreen Ricketts; by three sisters, Goldie Bushman, Beatrice Smith and Nellie Bushee; and by two brothers, Harry Sherman and Russell Sherman.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Wallingford Aldous Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date in Danby-Scottsville Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Lettie Ricketts Memorial Fund, in care of Sara Ricketts, 2871 Old Otis Road, Danby, 05739.

Grace E. Blair Rites

POULTNEY - A memorial service for Grace E. Blair, who died Dec. 24, 2000, was held Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Poultney, with the Rev. Romona Rose-Crossley, rector, officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Lake View Cemetery in Hubbardton.

Organist was Aileen Durkee.

Reader was Mary Girodano.

Eulogist were Casey Archer and Todd Blair.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home of Poultney.

Samuel E. Farrar

PROCTORSVILLE - Samuel E. Farrar, 83, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at the Veterans Hospital in White River Junction.

Mr. Farrar was born in Ludlow, the son of Lloyd and Ida (Merriam) Farrar.

He attended Black River Academy in Ludlow.

Mr. Farrar worked at Jewell Brooke Woolen Mill in Ludlow. He also was a driver for the Windsor Minerals Company and the United States Post Office in White River Junction. He was the past owner of American Gas in Littleton and a school bus driver for the Cavendish school system.

He was a member of the American Legion in Proctorsville.

He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering with machinery and being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes N. Farrar of Proctorsville; three sons, Henry Farrar of Ocala, Fla., Michael Holmes of Mendon, and Gregory Farrar of Proctorsville; two daughters, Bonnie Kenyon of South Royalton and Cheryl Balch of Proctorsville; two brothers, Everett Farrar of Ludlow and Wayne Farrar of West Burke; two sisters, Mamie Brunelle and Wyennetta Brunell, both of Smithville; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four sons, Rodney Farrar, Graydon Farrar, Mitchell Dean and Raynard Farrar.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Home, 12 Meadow St., Ludlow. Burial will be held at a later date.

Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Vermont Chapter of the American Lung Association.

Elizabeth Gleason

LUDLOW - Elizabeth Gleason, 94, died Friday, January 19, 2001, at the Gill Home in Ludlow after a long illness.

She was born September 27, 1906, in Minersville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Daniel and Catherine (Latcher) Harter.

She married Fletcher Gleason, who predeceased her in July 1979.

She was a member of the Altar Society at the Holy Name of Mary and a member of the Ludlow Senior Citizens.

She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Harter, and a sister, Bertha Davenport, and is survived by one sister, Gertrude Haffey of Middlesex, N.J. She is also survived by the following nieces and nephews: Donna Goldstein of Plainview, N.Y., Mary Ann Rocque of Essex, Vt., Charles Dupre Jr. of Wallingford, Vt., Anthony Dupre and Dan Dupre of Chicago, Ill., and Christopher Dupre of Williamstown, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Black River Valley Senior Center, 10 High Street, Ludlow, Vt., 05149.

Services will be held in the spring at Holy Name of Mary with burial to follow at Cavendish Village Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Adams & Kenney Funeral Home in Chester.

Simonne E. Demers

ENFIELD, N.H. - Simonne E. Demers, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover.

She was born Feb. 4, 1914, the daughter of Surgius and Sara (Bedard) Bathalon.

She attended school in North Troy, Vt.

She married Emile Demers on Dec. 27, 1938, in Lebanon. He died in 1968.

Mrs. Demers worked as a domestic at Densmore Brick Co. and the Tannery, both in Lebanon. She later worked at Lebanon Laundry, Williams Laundry in Windsor, Vt., for 17 years, and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Windsor and the Shoe Shop in Claremont. She retired from Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover in 1976.

She enjoyed cooking, embroidery and gardening.

Survivors include, two sons, George E. Demers of East Thetford, Vt., and Charles H. Demers of Harvest, Ala.; two daughters, Cecile J. Corliss of Lebanon and Dianne S. Surrell of Weathersfield Bow, Vt.; a brother, Ernest Bathalon of Newport, Vt.; two sisters, Albina Choquette of New Haven, Vt., and Laurette Bathalon of Westfield, Vt.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor, with the Rev. Paul N. Belbumer officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Francis Cemetery in Windsor.

Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hanover Terrace Healthcare Activity Fund, 53 Lyme Road, Hanover, 03755, or to a favorite charity.

Bruce W. Butler

VALRICO, Fla. - Bruce William Butler, 75, died Jan. 19, 2001, in Brandon, Fla.

He was born Nov. 27, 1925, in Stamford, Conn., son of Herbert F. and Rebecca (Wood) Butler

He lived in Valrico for five years after moving from Proctorsville, Vt., where he lived for 20 years.

Mr. Butler was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Suffner, the Tampa Masonic Lodge 240, F&AM, Order of the Eastern Star Areme Chapter 147 and the Strawberry Ridge Veterans Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Butler of Valrico; a son, Gregory B. Butler of East Hampton, Conn.; a stepson, Charles E. Wood Jr. of Tampa; a daughter, Sharon A. Belinski of Seffner; a stepdaughter, Cheryl G. Rosipal of Lehigh Acres; a brother, Herbert Butler of Franklin, N.C.; a sister, Audrey Penachio of Stamford, Conn.; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Seffner. A Masonic graveside service will follow in Serenity Meadows Memorial Park in Riverview by the Tampa Lodge 240 F&AM.

James E. Kelley

BENNINGTON - James Edward Kelley, 70, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001.

He had lived in Fairbanks, Ala., for 26 years, where he worked on the Alaskan pipeline and drove a cab. Prior to that he lived for several years in Whitefish, Mont., where he taught high school physics and chemistry. Mr. Kelley moved to Bennington four months ago to live with his daughter, Dr. Colleen Kelley.

Survivors include his mother, Gertrude Kelley of Wayne, Pa.; a sister, Mary Ellen O'Dwyer of Wayne, Pa.; his former wife, Sandra L. Kelley of Concord, Calif.; three daughters, Susannah M. Kelley of Bellingham, Wash., Colleen E. Kelley of Bennington and Rebecca K. Taalbi of West Allis, Wis.; two sons, James. A. Kelley of Fargo, N.D., and Brian E. Kelley of Great Falls, Mont., and 13 grandchildren.

The funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. His cremains will be scattered near the South Fork of the Flathead River in Western Montana.

Friends may call Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. at his home at 72 Monument Ave. in Old Bennington.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.

Warren F. Mobus

WARREN - Warren Farley Mobus, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Fletcher Allen Health Care-MCHV campus in Burlington.

He was born May 31, 1918, in Warren, the son of Arthur and Mabel (Robinson) Mobus.

He married Beverly Graves on Aug. 10, 1939, in Waitsfield.

Mr. Mobus graduated from Waitsfield High School in 1936 and from Vermont Agricultural School in Randolph in 1937.

Mr. Mobus had worked as a milk tester, farmer and an independent logger. He retired from General Electric after 30 years of service.

He was a member of the Warren United Church and a charter member of the Warren Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed spending winters in Florida and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of Warren; three sons, John A. Mobus of Springfield, David Mobus of Knoxville, Tenn., and Will Mobus of Montpelier; a sister, Pauline Henry of Orleans; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Warren United Church. Burial will be at a later date in Warren Village Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.

Louise F. Robbins

SPRINGFIELD - Louise Frances (Lasell) Robbins, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

She was born March 6, 1919, in Springfield, the daughter of Harry M. and Fern A. Lasell.

She graduated from Springfield High School in 1936 and earned an associate's degree in business from the Community College of Vermont in 1978.

From 1950 to 1962 she worked as a purchasing agent for Laffin Supply Corp. and Hemingway Electric in Springfield. She also worked at Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., retiring in 1988. She also worked for several years at Putnam's Drug Store in Hanover.

She was active in leadership roles of the Girl Scouts, Altrurian Club and taught Sunday school for the Methodist Church in Springfield. She joined the Church of Christ in 1958and was instrumental in establishing the Upper Valley Congregation.

She enjoyed reading and music.

Survivors include two daughters, Hallie L. Lamphere and Karin L. Robbins, both of Springfield; two sisters, Hallie L. Buskey of Hanover and Rosemary Watkins of Winter Haven, Fla.; three brothers, Harry J. Lasell of Winter Haven, Commander Harvey L. Lasell of Oak Harbour, Wash., and Captain Max H. Lasell of Homosassa, Fla., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a sister, Fern Aust, in 1988.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Route 11, Chester Road, Springfield.
