Esther A. Kinney

LOS ANGELES — Esther Abatiell Kinney, 84, of Los Angeles and formerly of Rutland, Vt., died April 18, 2001, of natural causes.

She was born June 18, 1916, in Rutland, daughter of Raffaele and Angeline Abatiell.

She graduated from Rutland High School and Rutland Business College.

Mrs. Kinney was a secretary at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt., before moving to California in the 1960s. In Los Angeles, she worked for United Contact Lens Corp., was a house mother at UCLA Delta Zeta Sorority, and was secretary to the director of Bob Hope’s USO Club in Hollywood for many years.

Mrs. Kinney returned to Rutland in the late 1980s for a few years, then returned to Los Angeles and later moved to Las Vegas, Nev., before returning to California in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Kaye Kinney Perras of Panorama City, Calif.; a son, Norman Paul Kinney of Studio City, Calif.; a sister, Maryanne Abatiell Bearss of Rutland, Vt.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, Osmyn “Duke” Kinney; five brothers, Joseph, James, Clement, Peter and Patrick Abatiell; and three sisters, Carmela Wilson, Louise Richmond and Sue Grassia.

Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood.

Myrtha G. Brown

Jeffery T. Brown

The graveside committal service for Myrtha G. Witham Brown, 64, and her son, Jeffery T. Brown, 35, of Livingston Manor, N.Y., who died April 18, 2001, in an automobile accident, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery in Rutland with the Rev. Gordon Bourne officiating.

Mr. Ned S. Calvi

FAIR HAVEN — Mr. Ned Sarafino Calvi, 86, a lifelong resident of Fair Haven, died at his home on Thursday evening, April 19, 2001, with his family at his side.

Ned was born on September 4, 1914, in Fair Haven, the son of the late Antonio and Marianna (Negri) Calvi. He was educated in the Fair Haven schools and graduated from Fair Haven High School with the class of 1932, furthering his education at the University of Vermont and the Albany School of Pharmacy. Mr. Calvi was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II.

Ned, together with his wife and family, for 50 years, have owned and continue to operate Wood’s Insurance Agency Inc. and Calvi Reality in Fair Haven. He is a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 810 of Fair Haven and also the 4th Degree Assembly 2539 of Fair Haven, the American Legion Post 49 of Fair Haven, of which he is a past commander, and the Vermont Association of Independent Insurance Agents. Ned is a former member and past president of the Fair Haven Rotary Club, the Fair Haven chamber of commerce and the board of directors for the Vermont National Bank.

Ned is survived by his wife, Mrs. Loraine (Mahar) Calvi, whom he married in Fair Haven on July 25, 1943; his three children, his daughter, Nedra C. Willard of Peacham, Vt., her children, Abbey, Molly, Calvin and Seth, his daughter, Ann Marie C. Mahar and her husband, Robert of Fair Haven and their children, Ryan and his wife, Ann Marie, Emily, Elizabeth and Kristin, his son, David A. Calvi and his wife, Joanne of Fair Haven, their children, Maria, Benjamin and Gabriel; and also by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his three brothers, Joseph Calvi, Andrew Calvi and Ernest Calvi.

A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, April 22, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolores Church in Fair Haven. The Rev. Richard W. Tinney, parish priest, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fair Haven.

Visiting hours will be on Saturday, April 21, 2001, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main Street, Fair Haven.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Calvi may be offered to a charity of one’s choice.

Lillian M. Lewis

DANBY — Lillian May Lewis, 78, died April 20, 2001, at Mountain View Center Genesis Elder Care in Rutland.

Arrangements are pending at the Wallingford-Aldous Funeral Home.

Eileen M. Bradley rites

MENDON — The memorial service for Eileen M. Bradley, 62, who died April 18, 2001, was held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home with the Rev. Reid Mayo, pastor of Christ the King Church, officiating. Burial will be in Tenny Cemetery in Mendon at a later date.

Soloist was Jeanne Bradley. Words of remembrance were offered by family members, Teri Patterson, George Bradley, Tawnya Bean and Hospice Bereavement counselor Pat Noll.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse and Hospice Association, P.O. Box 787, Rutland, 05701.

Arrangements were under the direction of Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland.

Natalie D. Thibodeau

WILDER — Natalie D. Thibodeau, 58, died April 20, 2001, at Hanover Terrace Health Care in Hanover, N.H.

She was born Jan. 29, 1943, in Hanover, N.H., a daughter of Burton and Irene (Ducharme) Shepard.

She attended the last graduating class of West Lebanon High School.

She married Eugene G. Thibodeau on Sept. 17, 1960, in White River Junction.

Mrs. Thibodeau was a bookkeeper at the First National Bank in White River Junction and later for Hanover Bank and Trust until 1989.

She enjoyed flower gardening.

Survivors include her husband of Wilder; two daughters, Barbara Bell of Starksboro and Michelle McGee of Clifton Park, N.Y.; three sisters, Nadine Nash of Clearwater, Fla., Germaine Thibodeau of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Terry Shepard of West Lebanon, N.H.; four brothers, Burton Shepard of Dunkirk, Md., Jared Shepard of East Lyme, Conn., Michael Shepard of Orwell and Randy Shepard of West Lebanon, N.H.; and six grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Danny Thibodeau; and a brother, Danny Shepard.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with burial following in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in White River Junction.

Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter, P.O. Box 1139, Montpelier, 05601.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.

Ralph E. Vetter

WHITE CREEK, N.Y. — Ralph E. Vetter, 71, died April 18, 2001, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt.

He was born March 9, 1930, in Plainfield, N.J., son of Charles and Evelyn (Cahallan) Vetter.

He received his education in the schools in Paterson, N.J.

Mr. Vetter married Olive Hook on June 7, 1952, in Paterson, N.J. They moved to White Creek in 1968.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War.

Mr. Vetter was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post 13 of Bennington.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Edward Vetter of Vacaville, Calif., and William Vetter of Marion, Mass.; a brother, Carl Vetter of Butler, N.J.; four grandchildren; and two nieces and two nephews;

He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Robert.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be held at the Vermont Cremation Service in Bennington.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad, or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, through the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, Vt., 05201.

Ruth A. Goller

MANCHESTER — Ruth A. Goller, 97, of Londonderry, died April 20, 2001, at the Centers for the Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.

She was born April 30, 1903, in New York City, daughter of Abraham Lincoln Maynes and Margaret Emily Matthews Maynes.

She was married to Robert Pash Sr., who died in 1946.

She had worked as a dental assistant in Elizabeth, N.J. After moving to Manchester in 1950, she helped with the meal program for the boarding students at Burr and Burton Seminary and worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Robert J. Fisk .

In 1958 she married August K. Goller and moved to Londonderry.

Mrs. Goller was a member of the First Congregational Church of Manchester, the Adoniram Chapter 22, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Auxiliary of World War II in Florida.

She served as a volunteer at the Senior’s Gift Shop and worked at the Hill and Dale Country Store in Manchester until her illness in 1982.

Survivors include three sons, Allan Pash of Burnsville, N.C., David Pash of Randolph and Robert Pash Jr. of Fairport, N.Y.; a daughter, Emily Lummer of Chatham, N.J.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Karnie DeCell of Weston and Shirley Paige of East Longmeadow, Mass.; 10 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.

She was predeceased by her second husband, August K. Goller.

The graveside service of committal will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester. An Eastern Star service will be held at 8 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester.

Catherine P. Brewer

HANOVER, N.H. — Catherine Piper Brewer, 80, died April 18, 2001, at Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover.

She was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Newton Center, Mass., daughter of Ralph C. and Catherine W. (Cutter) Piper.

She graduated from the Cambridge School of Weston in Massachusetts and the Katherine Gibbs school in Boston.

She married Francis A. Brewer Jr., on May 17, 1941. He died in 1998. They lived in both Dover, Mass., and Woodstock, Vt., for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Constance J. Webber of East Wallingford, Vt., and Nancy B. Nightingale of Woodstock, Vt.; two sisters, Margaret P. Nelson of Williamsburg, Mass., and Anne P. Harty of Buffalo, N.Y.; four grandsons; a granddaughter; and three nieces.

Funeral services will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord, 03301.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home, 1 Rose Hill, Woodstock, Vt., 05091.

Glenn R. Lawrence rites

WINDHAM — Services for Glenn R. Lawrence, 74, who died April 14, 2001, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital, were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Adams & Kenney Funeral Home in Chester with the Rev. Kermit Reilly officiating.

A gathering for family and friends was held at the American Legion Post 67 in Chester following the services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Ascutney Hospital Acute Care or Rehabilitation, RR 1 Box 6, Windsor, 05089.

Arrangements were under the direction of Adams & Kenney Funeral Home in Chester.

Elmer A. Bigelow rites

SHOREHAM — The funeral service for Elmer Arthur Bigelow, who died April 16, 2001, was held Friday at Sanderson Funeral Service. Interment and committal services followed in Lakeview Cemetery in Shoreham. The Rev. Tim Franklin officiated.

Pallbearers were Bob Morey, Jason Brasdon, Tony Hutchins, Roger Forgues, Phillip Cyr, Dana LaDuke, Robert Warren and Art Rice.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Service.

Vivian E. Buttolph

MIDDLEBURY — Vivian Elsie Post Buttolph, 85, died peacefully in Middlebury on April 19, 2001.

She was the daughter of Ralph and Lena (Davis) Post, born in Putnam, New York, on December 28, 1915.

Vivian married Thomas R. Buttolph in Shoreham on November 12, 1939, and there raised five children, who survive them: Elizabeth Spannbauer and her husband, Douglas of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Judith Cerand of Brandon and fiance, Dale Harris of Rutland, Carolyn Meyer of West Pawlet, Thomas Buttolph and wife, Mary of Shoreham, and Kathryn Laframboise and her husband, Mark of Middlebury.

Vivian took joy in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and shared with them her love of nature and lifelong learning. She was a strong and independent person and thankful for the loving support of her family, and of the health care professionals and volunteers who enabled her to enjoy the final comforts of home care.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Vivian’s life on Sunday, April 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the home of Kathy and Mark Laframboise, 350 Foote Street, Middlebury, Vermont following private family committal services.

Donations in Vivian’s memory may be sent to Addison County Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, Vt., 05753, or Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 504, Middlebury, Vt., 05753.
