Lyndon E. Nelson

HEBRON, N.Y. - Lyndon Elbert Nelson, 40, formerly of Sausville Cabin Trailer Court in Salem, died April 22, 2001, at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, Mass., after a long illness.

He was born Sept. 17, 1960, in Cambridge, son of George E. and Helma L. (Montgomery Nelson.

Mr. Nelson was a farmer.

He enjoyed fishing and watching his sons play football and baseball.

Survivors include his parents; the mother of his children, Kyle Hunt Johnson; two sons, Joshua Nelson and Landon Nelson, both of Salem; three brothers, Edward Nelson of Glens Falls, William Nelson and Barry Nelson, both of Salem; three sisters, Phyllis Mercure of Granville, Sherri Nelson of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Pearl Nelson of San Rafael, Calif.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister, Audrey E. Nelson.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Robert M. King Funeral Home in Granville with the Rev. William Hoffmann officiating. Burial will follow in Mountainview Cemetery in West Pawlet, Vt.

Friends may call Wednesday from noon until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Rescue Squad, East Broadway, Salem, 12865.

Patricia Harte

WEST RUTLAND - Funeral services for Patricia R. Harte, 59, of West Rutland, who died Friday, will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at St. Bridget's Church in West Rutland.

Among her survivors is her mother, Helen (Pritchard) Jordan of Poultney.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland.

Martha S. Dykeman

BENNINGTON - Martha S. Dykeman, 85, a resident of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, died April 23, 2001, at the Vermont Veterans Home after a long illness.

She was born March 8, 1916, in New York City, daughter of Alexander and Isabel (Blair) Sloane.

She received her education in New York schools.

She married Leonard Dykeman on May 21, 1941. He died in 1988.

Mrs. Dykeman had been employed as office manager for the American Pulpwood Association in New York City for many years.

She and her husband retired to Bennington in 1975, moving from Long Island, N.Y.

She was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Bennington and past president of the Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of the Bennington Club and volunteered as a gray lady at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Dykeman of Clinton, Conn., and Ronald Dykeman of Canandaigua, N.Y.; a brother, Alexander Sloane of Slidell, La.; a sister, Isabel Logie of Queens, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and nieces.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 W. Main St., Bennington, with the Rev. Mary Lee-Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad, through the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.

Gordon Cross

POST MILLS - Gordon Cross, 75, died April 23, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born July 6, 1925, in Hanover, N.H., son of Reginald and Alice (Trombley) Cross.

He attended schools in Thetford.

Mr. Cross married Betty (Godfrey) Clogston on April 20, 1962, in Norwich.

He was a retired carpenter. He owned and operated the Echo Valley Dance Hall from the late 1960s to the early 1970s.

He enjoyed flowers, auctions, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of Post Mills; a daughter, Jane Moquin of Turners Falls, Mass.; two sons, Robert G. Cross of Post Mills and Calvin Cross of Dover, N.H.; two stepsons, Gordon Clogston of Littleton, Colo., and Larry Clogston of East Thetford; a stepdaughter, Linda Emerson of Vershire; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Gary Cross.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Post Mills Congregational Church with Pastor Roger Daum officiating. Burial will be in Post Mills Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hale Funeral Home, Route 113, Thetford Center.

Potted plants may be donated to the family and will be planted in Mr. Cross' garden in his memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hale Funeral Homes of Bradford and Thetford.

Nora M. Kidder

BRADFORD - Nora M. Kidder, 80, died April 22, 2001, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H.

She was born Nov. 13, 1920, in Bradford, daughter of Charles E. and Eva (Page) Thurston.

She attended Bradford schools and graduated from Bradford Academy in 1938.

She married Keith A. Kidder on June 21, 1938, in Limerick, Maine. He died in Januray 2000. They had lived in Kidderhood in West Fairlee before moving to Bradford.

Mrs. Kidder had worked at various places in the Bradford and Fairlee area and had been a homemaker all of her life.

She enjoyed cooking, reading and knitting.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Louise Goodine of Wells, Maine, Vera Merritt of Newbury and Alice Stockwell of Bradford; two sons, Freeman Kidder of North Haverhill, N.H., and Fred Kidder of Ryegate; four brothers, Norman Thurston of Newport, Forrest Thurston, Kenneth Thurston and Richard Thurston, all of Bradford; a sister, Maxine Burgess of Bradford; three half-brothers, Charles Thurston of Bradford, Howard Thurston of White River Junction and George Thurston of Orange; four half-sisters, Jennie Corliss of West Newbury, Mary Evans of Piermont, N.H., Lilla Bradley and Mildred Whitcomb, both of Bradford; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by six brothers, Harry Thurston, Martin Thurston, Clifton Thurston, Ernest Thurston, Stanley Thurston and Gordon Thurston; a sister, Pauline Mann; and a half-brother, Elwood Thurston.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Hale Funeral Home, Upper Plain, Bradford, with Pastor Joseph Rinaldi officiating. Burial will be at a later date in West Bradford Cemetery.

Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hale Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Alliance of Vermont and New Hampshire, Route 25, Bradford, 05033, or to the Bradford Fast Squad, in care of Harvey Bartlett, P.O. Box 59, Bradford, 05033.

Vivian E. Buttolph

MIDDLEBURY - Vivian Elsie Post Buttolph, 85, died peacefully at home in Middlebury on April 19, 2001.

She was the daughter of Ralph and Lena (Davis) Post, born in Putnam, New York, on December 28, 1915.

Vivian married Thomas R. Buttolph in Shoreham on November 12, 1939, and there raised five children, who survive them: Elizabeth Spannbauer and her husband, Douglas, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Judith Cerand of Brandon and fiance, Dale Harris, of Rutland, Carolyn Meyer of West Pawlet, Thomas Buttolph and wife, Mary, of Shoreham, and Kathryn Laframboise and her husband, Mark, of Middlebury.

Vivian took joy in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and shared with them her love of nature and lifelong learning. She was a strong and independent person and thankful for the loving support of her family, and of the health care professionals and volunteers who enabled her to enjoy the final comforts of home care.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Vivian's life on Sunday, April 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the home of Kathy and Mark Laframboise, 350 Foote Street, Middlebury, Vermont, following private family committal services.

Donations in Vivian's memory may be sent to Addison County Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, Vt., 05753, or Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 504, Middlebury, Vt., 05753.

Monique Amyot Sharp

Monique Amyot Sharp died April 17, 2001, peacefully at her home in Sante Fe with courage and grace following a brief illness. Much loved soulmate and best friend to her husband, John A.V. Sharp. Loving mother of Natalie Janson (Gary Janson), Eric Pothier (Katie Sloan) and Derek Sharp. Adoring Nana to Ryan and Isabel Janson, Madeleine and Nicholas Pothier. Daughter of the late Paule Desrochers Walkden and Jean Louis Amyot. Dearest daughter-in-law of Frances R. Dodds. Sister-in-law of Tony Newman and Cynthia and Frank Wilkinson. A memorial service in celebration of Monique's life will be held at The Collins Clarke Chapel, 5610 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, Quebec on Friday, April 27, 2001, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to The Hospice Center, 1400 Chama Street, Sante Fe, New Mexico, 87505.

Marion Mae Church

CLARENDON — Marion “Mickey” Church, formerly of Peru, Vt., died peacefully on April 24, 2001, surrounded by her family and friends after a short illness at Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born on September 4, 1940, at Bennington Hospital, the daughter of Theodore “Ted” R. and Elizabeth M. (Hewes) Miller.

She grew up in Peru and attended Peru Grade School and Burr and Burton Seminary. She married Phillip Church on May 2, 1981. Marion loved her family as well as gardening, traveling, sewing and skiing. In her earlier years she volunteered as a 4H leader. She was employed by the Melton Hoverkamp and Lessing families of Dorset.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip Church of North Clarendon; her mother, Betty Miller and her sister, Pamela West, both of Manchester; a daughter, Kelly and son-in-law Scott MacDonald of Fairbanks, Alaska; a daughter, Nancy Malkin of Perkasie, Pa.; a son, Robert Wright and daughter-in-law, Becky of Fort Drum, N.Y.; and a son, Stuart Wright of North Clarendon, Vt.; her grandchildren, Sean, Scott and Katherine MacDonald, Melissa and Jessica Wright, Richard and Christina Griswold, and Cory Malkin; and several aunts, uncles, nephews and numerous cousins as well as many friends. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Georgianna and Lee Hewes and Harry and Daisy Miller; her father, Ted Miller; and nephew, Craig Squires.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, at 1 p.m. at the Peru Congregational Church. Kermit Reilly will officiate. Burial will take place later in the spring at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Friday, April 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Rutland Regional Ambulance Service, or the Vermont Chapter of the American Heart Association, in care of Brewster Funeral Service, P.O. Box 885, Manchester, 05255.

Mary S. Carrara

The funeral for Mary Stella Carrara, 87, of Rutland, who died April 25, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center, will be held today at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Wallingford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Church, 66 S. Main St., Rutland, 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home, 44 N. Main St., Rutland, 05701.

William C. Burden Jr.

DANBY — William Charles “Bill” Burden, 67, died April 25, 2001, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury after a brief illness.

He was born July 20, 1933, in Danby, son of William Charles and Helen (Wells) Burden Sr.

He attended schools in Danby.

Mr. Burden married Lonna Brooks on Sept. 3, 1956.

He was employed by the Vermont Marble Co. for 32 years as a foreman and for the past 37 years worked for Elsie Cruikshank and several other residents in the Dorset area. Mr. Burden retired in 1982.

He attended the Congregational Church in Danby, and was a member of Marble Valley Shrine, F&AM, a noble of the Cairo Temple Shrine and a charter member of the Green Mountain Climbers (snowmobile) Club.

Mr. Burden enjoyed farming, home-cooked meals, a good NASCAR race and a rodeo on TNN.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years; three daughters, Bonnie Parker of Mendon, Willy Savage of Orwell and Brooke Burden of Danby; a son, Jeffrey Burden of Danby; three sisters; two brothers; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The memorial funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Danby Congregational Church with the Rev. Lester Tufts, former pastor, officiating. Casual attire is suggested.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Brooke Burden Educational Trust Fund, in care of Deanna Wetherby, Factory Point National Bank, 20-22 West St., Rutland, 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of Aldous Funeral Home.

William C. Burden Jr. b>

CASTLETON — Ethel K. Stickney, 88, died Feb. 10, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 8, 1912, in Carteret, N.J., daughter of Chester I. and Mary (Trotter) King.

She married James C. Stickney. He died in April 2000.

Mrs. Stickney was a member of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn DeTizio of Pittsford; two sons, Robert A. Stickney of Henderson, Nev., and Ronald T. Stickney of Sparta, N.J.; two sisters, Irene Stickney of West Yarmouth, Mass., and Elaine Drake of Roselle Park, N.J.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Mark R. Pitton, associate pastor, officiating.

There will be a reception in the church parlor following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Girl Scout Council of Vermont, Campership Fund, 79 Allen Martin Drive, Essex Junction, 05452.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.
