Edward R. Disorda

FOREST DALE — Edward Robert Disorda, 93, died April 25, 2001, at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Rutland.

He was born Oct. 29, 1907, in Whiting, son of Fred and Emma (Branch) Disorda.

He had been a resident of Forest Dale since 1924, moving from Whiting.

Mr. Disorda had worked at the Newton-Thompson Wooden Toy Manufacturing plant in Forest Dale and later at Brown’s Novelty in East Middlebury for more than 22 years, retiring in 1972.

He had attended the Forest Dale Wesleyan Church.

Survivors include a son, Seeley A. Disorda of Cape Coral, Fla.; a daughter, Ruth D’Avignon of Whiting; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-granddaughters.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mabel (LaFrance) Disorda in 1982; a brother, Roy Disorda; and three sisters, Alice Frasier, Florence Swenor and Anna Button.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Forest Dale Wesleyan Church with the Rev. James Brennan, pastor, officiating. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in Forest Dale Cemetery.

Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, 05733.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Guilda Ackley

Guilda St. John Ackley, 96, of Rutland died April 26, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending with the Aldous Funeral Home, 44 N. Main St., Rutland.

Althea M. Tiraboschi rites

The funeral for Althea M. “Pat” Tiraboschi, 79, of Rutland, who died April 22, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center, was held Thursday at Christ the King Church with the Rev. Reid C. Mayo, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.

Organist was Sister Pauline Gratton and vocalist was Sister Francis Patrick Dunn.

Bearers were Joseph Romeo, Tony Romeo and Salvatore Vitagliano, all of Rutland, and Lester Tiraboschi of Brimfield, Mass.

Prayer services were held Wednesday evening at the Clifford Funeral Home by the Rev. Thomas V. Mattison, assistant pastor.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Alan W. Hill rites

NORTH CLARENDON — The graveside service for Alan W. Hill, 57, who died April 10, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center, was held Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Sharon Hughes, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.

Mary J. Washburn rites

FAIR HAVEN — The memorial service for Mary Jane (Noble) Washburn, 73, who died April 22, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center, was conducted Thursday at the First Congregational Church, UCC, of Fair Haven with the Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Benson at the convenience of the family.

Organist was Joan Bletz.

Readers were members of Mrs. Washburn’s family.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home of Fair Haven.

William F. Finney

SHAFTSBURY — William F. Finney, 62, died April 26, 2001, at his residence after a long illness.

He was born Aug. 19, 1938, in Somerville, N.J., son of Walter N. and Elizabeth G. (Green) Finney.

He received his early education in Teaneck, N.J., and Arlington schools, and graduated from Arlington High School in 1957 and Wentworth Institute in Boston. He later attended the University of Vermont.

Mr. Finney married Carole Corskie on April 20, 1963, in Montpelier.

He was employed at William E. Dailey Construction in Shaftsbury for 34 years and later at Lydall Inc. in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., until the time of his retirement.

He was a member of American Legion Post 13.

He enjoyed woodworking and spending time at his camp on Lake St. Catherine.

Survivors include his wife of Shaftsbury; a son, W. Scott Finney of Bennington; a daughter, Wendy Bernstein of Northampton, Mass.; a brother, Timothy G. Finney of Shaftsbury; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Church on the Green in West Arlington with the Rev. Joan O’Gorman, pastor of the East Arlington Federated Church, officiating. Private committal services will be held in West Arlington Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bennington Area Home Health Agency, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Zita C. Fortier

BENNINGTON — Zita C. Pinsonneault Fortier, 81, died April 26, 2001, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a long illness.

She was born March 7, 1920, in Bennington, daughter of William and Rosealba (Gratton) Pinsonneault.

She received her education at Sacred Heart School in Bennington and later attended the former St. Joseph’s Business College.

She was first married to Wilfred St. Peter in 1948. He died in 1951. She later married Arthur L. Fortier on Nov. 26, 1960, in Brattleboro. He died in 1987.

Mrs. Fortier had been employed at the EZ Mill and Bijur Lubricating Corp., where she retired in 1985 after 35 years.

She was an active member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and St. Anne’s Society at the church.

She enjoyed reading, shopping and listening to music. In earlier years, she enjoyed playing the piano, violin and clarinet.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey A. Fortier of Bennington; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Henrietta Senecal, Flavian Senecal and Fabiola Pinsonneault.

The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with a prayer and continue at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church where the funeral Mass will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The vigil service will be held Sunday afternoon.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart School or to have a Mass said in her memory, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

Members of St. Anne’s Society are asked to meet Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home for recitation of the rosary.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Dr. Frederick Sanborn

SOUTH ROYALTON — Dr. Frederick Sanborn, 88, died April 26, 2001, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 23, 1912, in Winchester, Mass., son of Harry C. and Carolyn L. (Ellard) Sanborn.

He attended Winchester schools and graduated from Winchester High School in 1930. He later graduated from Dartmouth College in 1934 and Dartmouth Medical School in 1935 and from Harvard Medical School in 1937.

Mr. Sanborn married Mary Louise Ainsworth on July 5, 1941, in South Royalton. She died in 1990.

He worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Chelsea, Mass., and later at Barnstable County Hospital in Pocasset, Mass., for many years, retiring in 1969.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in China and New Zealand.

Survivors include a son, Robert A. Sanborn of South Royalton; a daughter, Carolyn R. Sanborn of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Alliance of Vermont and New Hampshire Inc., 36 S. Main St., Randolph, 05060.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home, Main Street, Chelsea.

Judith L. Davies

SPRINGFILED — Judith Louise Davies (King) died unexpectedly April 23, 2001, at Springfield Hospital. She was born on May 4, 1939, in Hanover, New Hampshire, spent most of her life in Cincinnati, Ohio and De Pere, Wisconsin, and earned a master’s degree in library science from Rosary College in Indiana in 1969. She moved to Vermont in 1979, where she was a resident of first Weathersfield and then Springfield. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl, and her parents, Donald and Louise of Weathersfield. She is survived by her brothers, John of Cincinnati, Ohio, Peter of Mesa, Arizona, Jeremy of Bellingham, Washington, and Robert of Monroe, Wisconsin; a sister, Kathryn of Weathersfield; and several nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved black cat, Wise Guy.

Judith was deeply involved in community affairs and a passionate supporter of the Democratic Party and liberal causes. She was known for having the courage of her convictions and frequently expressed herself through letters to local papers on many issues. She was devoted to friends and family.

Memorial services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Humane Society.

Margaret S. Parke

PROCTORSVILLE — Margaret S. Parke, 86, of Proctorsville, died quietly at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center on April 24, 2001, after a brief illness.

She was born November 29, 1914, in Rahway, N.J., the daughter of James and Jeannie (McKay) Smith.

Margaret graduated from Vail Dean School for Girls in 1932 and Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1937. She attended the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School from 1941 to 1942. Margaret was an ensign in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1944.

She married Edward L. (Ned) Parke on February 3, 1944, who died August 30, 1984.

Margaret leaves behind her loving family including her two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Cornelius Bensen of Oxford, Maine, and Peggy and Richard Svec of Proctorsville, Vt.; two sons and daughters-in-law, E. Lauck and Elizabeth Parke of Richmond, Vt., and John Parke-Voelske and Marianne Voelske of Berlin, Germany; eight grandchildren, Margaret and Kathryn Svec of Proctorsville, Vt., McKay and William Crowley of Anderson, S.C., Cornelius and Megan Bensen of Mechanic Falls, Maine, and Elizabeth and Julia Parke of Richmond, Vt.; two great-granddaughters, Chelsea and Dagney Crowley of Anderson, S.C. She has also left behind a sister, Barbara Smith of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; and a brother, James Smith of Monroe Township, N.J.

Margaret was an avid reader who enjoyed painting, writing and music.

Due to Margaret’s great love of children and books, memorial contributions may be made to the Building for Books Sustaining Fund, in care of Cavendish Town Elementary School, P.O. Box 236, Proctorsville, 05153

There will be a private family service at a later time. Friends and acquaintances wishing to pay their respects are requested to do so by spending some quality time with or performing an act of kindness for a child.

Karen L. Kearney

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Karen Lynn Gilman Kearney, 33, died April 25, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a battle with cancer.

She was born Dec. 16, 1967, in Lebanon, daughter of Nelson and Linda (Provencher) Gilman.

She graduated from Hartford High School in 1986, the Rochester Dental Assistants School in Rochester, N.Y., in 1987, and the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, N.H., with a degree in dental hygiene in 1992.

She married Richard Kearney of White River Junction on Sept. 19, 1992.

Mrs. Kearney worked as a dental hygienist for Bruce Feldstein, DDS, in West Lebanon, N.H., for the past nine years and for Bryant Denk, DDS, in Hanover, N.H., for many years. She also volunteered at the Red Logan Dental Clinic in White River Junction.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of White River Junction; her parents, Nelson and Joyce Gilman of Brookfield, and Linda and Paul Detty of Plant City, Fla.; a son, Christopher Kearney and daughter, Katherine “Katie” Kearney, both of White River Junction; four brothers, Jon Gilman of Wilder, Brad Shumway of Thetford, Mike Shumway of White River Junction and Don Shumway of Canaan, N.H.; six sisters, Michelle and Nicole Cartier of Plant City, Noelle Cartier of Alexandria, Va., Sheila Davis of Brookfield, Andrea Swanson of Derry, N.H., and Wanda McMeans of White River Junction; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, and burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in White River Junction.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Red Logan Dental Clinic, 747 Hartford Ave., White River Junction, 05001.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home.
