Mary H. Pawlusiak

WEST RUTLAND — A graveside for Mary H. Pawlusiak, 89, who died Jan. 30, will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in West Rutland.

The Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert E. McIntyre Sr.

ORWELL — Robert E. McIntyre Sr., 60, died Saturday afternoon at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born Nov. 6, 1940, in Middletown Springs, the son of Harold J. and Helen (Tarbell) McIntyre.

He was a graduate of Shoreham High School in 1958.

He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for six years.

He married Betty Labshere in Shoreham on May 21, 1960.

Mr. McIntyre had been employed as a machine operator at Standard Register in Middlebury for the past 35 years.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Orwell and a former member of the Orwell Volunteer Fire Company.

For many years he was a coach for various Little League teams, and he was active with youth programs in his hometown. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing softball.

He is survived by his mother of Manchester; his wife of Orwell; two daughters, Karen Dumas of Whitehall, N.Y., and Kim McIntyre of Port Henry, N.Y.; two sons, Robert McIntyre Jr. of Bomoseen and Brian McIntyre of Fair Haven; a sister, Donna Clayton of Vergennes; three brothers, Harold McIntyre Jr. of Inverness, Fla., Gary McIntyre of New Haven, and Michael McIntyre of Danville, Ga.; six grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father and a brother, Clifford McIntyre.

The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Orwell. The Rev. Nicholas Thornblade, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Orwell.

Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home at 119 North Main St. in Fair Haven.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Cancer Center of the Rutland Regional Medical Center or to the Orwell First Response through the funeral home office at P.O. Box 86, Fair Haven, 05743.

Donald Fullam

NORTH SPRINGFIELD — Donald “Charlie” Fullam, 78, of North Springfield died April 29, at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Springfield, the son of Herbert and Lillian (Hutchinson) Fullam.

He received his education in the Springfield School system, graduating from Springfield High School in 1942.

He served in the armed forces.

He married Norma Raymond on Aug. 14, 1943, in Springfield.

Mr. Fullam was employed as a police officer by the Springfield Police Department, retiring in 1980 after 28 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of North Springfield; two sons, Gary D. Fullam and Kermit C. Fullam, both of North Springfield; two brothers, Richard Fullam of Winter Haven, Fla., and Robert Fullam of Springfield; a sister, Nancy Burton of Springfield; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Malcolm Fullam, and a sister, Pearl Abbott.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Springfield with the Rev. Douglas Hawkins, pastor of St. Mary’s, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate, 77 Hageman Ave., Colchester, 05446, or to the Springfield Booster Club, P.O. Box 66, Springfield, 05156.

The Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.

William F. Finney Rites

SHAFTSBURY -— The funeral of William F. Finney, who died April 26, was held at the United Methodist Church of West Arlington with the Rev. Joan O’Gorman, pastor of the East Arlington Federated Church, officiating.

Burial took place in West Arlington Cemetery, with Rev. O’Gorman offering the committal service.

Organist was Kevin Bishop.

The Mahar and Son Funeral Home of Bennington was in charge of arrangements.

Col. Joseph M. Madden

ARLINGTON — Col. Joseph M. Madden, 80, of Arlington, a retired U.S. Air Force officer, died April 29, 2001, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home.

A complete obituary will appear in a future issue of the Rutland Herald.

Carl L. Mueller

HINSDALE, N.H. — Carl Ludwig Mueller, 74, of Hinsdale, died unexpectedly April 27, 2001, after a period of declining health.

He was born in Schwerin, Germany, on Oct. 1, 1926, the son of Franz and Hedwig (Rabe) Mueller.

He was raised and educated in Germany, leaving his homeland in 1957 and arriving in Vancouver, B.C.

He later moved to Montreal, where he worked as an attendant at a Montreal Hospital.

While a resident of Montreal, he met his future wife, Ilse Irmgard Syrzisko. The couple was married in Brattleboro, Vt., Nov. 28, 1959. His wife died on Sept. 14, 2000.

Mr. Mueller had been employed by Aubuchon Hardware in Brattleboro for many years, retiring from the company as an assistant store manager. Prior to joining the Aubuchon Co. in 1966, he had worked for several years as an attendant at the Brattleboro Retreat.

He enjoyed spectator sports, especially wrestling, boxing and NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed annual family trips to Lake Spofford.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Mueller-Hudson of Brattleboro; a sister, Ushi Stein of Ballyshannon, Ireland; a brother, Fritz Mueller of Halstanbek, Germany; a granddaughter; and a nephew.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Donations may be made to Rescue Inc., P.O. Box 593, Brattleboro, 05302.

Atamaniuk Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John E. Keyes

SHELBURNE — A memorial service for John E. Keyes, who died March 30, will be held May 5 at 2 p.m. in the Wake Robin Community Center in Shelburne.

Burial will take place June 17 in the Memorial Garden at Christ Church (Episcopal) in Montpelier.

George W. Sparks

George William Sparks, 73, died April 27, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born June 28, 1927, in Leicester, the son of Ned and Ruth (Cahee) Sparks.

He attended Kurn Hattin Homes School in Westminster.

Mr. Sparks had been employed by Vermont Marble Co. in West Rutland as a quarryman, and later worked for Twin State Produce in Rutland for many years and Green Mountain Distributing for several years.

Survivors include two sons, David A. Sparks and George S. Sparks, both of Rutland; a brother, Steven "Ned" Sparks of St. Albans; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The graveside committal service and burial will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon with the Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Mary E. Majka

SHREWSBURY - Mary Elizabeth Majka, 78, died April 30, 2001, at the Mountain View Center Genesis Elder Care after a brief illness.

She was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Burlington, daughter of William and Dorothy (Ayers) Geno.

She was a longtime resident of Rutland and Clarendon.

She had been employed by the Rutland Bowlerama for several years, the Midway Diner as the cashier and the Rutland State Fair as a ticket taker at the main gate for 27 years. She retired in 1988.

Survivors include three sons, Stanley E. Majka of North Clarendon, Richard E. Majka of Wallingford and Jeffrey J. Majka of Shrewsbury; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two uncles and several cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walerjan W. Majka in 1996, and by a son, W. Wayne Majka in 1967.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Meals on Wheels program, 80 Belden Road 8, Rutland, 05701, or Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, P.O. Box 787, Rutland, 05702-0787.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland.

Allen W. Hilton

BRANDON - Allen William Hilton, 95, died April 30, 2001, at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Rutland.

He was born Jan. 2, 1906, in Brandon, son of Sigmund and Arbell (Ingall) Hilton.

He received his education in Brandon schools.

Mr. Hilton worked at June's Hardware Store in Brandon and later for Cecil Goodheart for many years, retiring in 1971. He then worked for Parker Hardware for several years.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army's 77th Division stationed in Brigham City, Utah.

Mr. Hilton was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a sister, Evelyn Hilton Parker of Venice, Fla., two nieces and a nephew.

He was predeceased by his wife, Rita May Hilton, in 1997.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon with the Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church, officiating. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, 05733.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

William J. Briere Sr.

FAIR HAVEN - William J. Briere Sr., 67, of Alpharetta, Ga., and formerly of Fair Haven, died April 23, 2001, after a long battle with leukemia.

He was born in Pawlet, the son of William V. and Anna Charron Briere. He was raised in Fair Haven.

He attended Fair Haven schools and graduated from Bryant College in Providence, R.I.

Mr. Briere founded Retail Marketing Professional in Atlanta, Ga., and sold it in 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; a daughter, Carrie Armento; a son, William Briere; three grandchildren; his mother, Anna Charron Briere of Seymour, Conn.; a brother, Norman Briere of Seymour, Conn.; three sisters, Louise Daly of Beacon Falls, Conn., Alice Kelemen of Naugatuck, Conn., and Patricia Graziano of Castleton; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Friday at Mount Paran Church of God in Sandy Springs, Ga. Burial was in Arlington Memorial Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 2625 Cumberland Parkway, Suite 205, Atlanta, Ga., 30339.

Richard Perkins Sr.

The graveside service for Richard W. Perkins Sr., 87, who died Feb. 2, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center, will be held Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery.

American Legion Post 31 will provide military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass., 01701-4688.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home.
