DANBY - The graveside service for Lettie G. Ricketts, 84, who died Jan. 20, 2001, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Danby-Scottsville Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Stone, pastor of the Mountain View Baptist Church, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lettie Ricketts Memorial Fund, in care of Sarah Ricketts, 2871 Old Otis Road, Danby, 05739.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home.

Bernice H. Newton

The memorial service for Bernice Hatch Newton, 96, who died March 26, 2001, will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Mark R. Pitton, associate minister, officiating.

A reception will be held in the church parlor following the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.

Paul H. Fagon

The graveside service for Paul H. Fagon, 47, a former resident of Rutland and resident of Denver, Colo., who died April 20, 2001, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Danby-Scottsville Cemetery, with the Rev. Thomas Mattison officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate, 77 Hedgeman Ave., Colchester, 05446.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home.

Donald M. Curtis Sr.

WEST RUTLAND - The graveside service for Donald M. Curtis Sr., 74, who died Dec. 29, 2000, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in West Rutland with the Rev. Frank Warzocha, pastor, officiating.

West Rutland American Legion Post 87 will provide military services.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland.

Theresa H. Roberts

GRANVILLE, N.Y. - The graveside committal service for Theresa H. Roberts, 70, who died April 7, 2001, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Poultney (Vt.) Cemetery in Poultney with Dr. John Glennon, deacon of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Granville, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home in Poultney.

Guila Ackley Rites

The funeral for Guila St. John Ackley, 96, of Rutland, who died April 26, 2001, was held Monday at 1 p.m. at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Mark Pitton officiating. Burial followed in East Clarendon Cemetery.

Organist was Tinsley "Rip" Jackson.

Bearers were Carl Ackley, Loren Ackley, Scott Davis, Paul Graves, David Ackley and John Ferguson Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, Court Street, Rutland, 05701, or to the Clarendon Congregation "Old Brick" Church, 146A Middle Road, Clarendon, 05759.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland.

Joanna Bartlett-Boehnert Rites

The funeral for Joanna Bartlett-Boehnert, 62, of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, who died April 26, 2001, was held Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Audrey Murdock, assistant priest, officiating.

Organist was Betty Clark.

Reading and remembrances were offered by family members.

Bearers were Jody Boehnert of London, England, Jennifer Boehnert of Boulder, Colo., Corinne Behler of Merritt Island, Fla., Betty Varricchione of West Rutland, Marcy Cataldo of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Robin Demers of Mount Holly.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Tossing Funeral Home.

Virginia Kovolick Rites

PITTSFORD - A funeral Mass for Virginia (Ginger) Kovolick, 58, who died April 27, 2001, was celebrated Monday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Pittsford with the Rev. Joseph Romano, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Pittsford.

Personal reflections were read by Larry Booker.

Bearers were Dan Rost of Pittsford, David Cook of Brandon, Ariel Miranda of Tennessee, Jeff Williams and Jason Williams, both of Underhill, and Shaun Ketcham of Sudbury.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

Col. Joseph M. Madden

ARLINGTON - Col. Joseph Matthew Madden, 80, died April 29, 2001, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

He was born April 11, 1921, in Philadelphia, the son of Rita and John Madden.

He married Thelma C. Seiler in 1942. He later married Linda R. Head of Shaftsbury on May 7, 1994.

Dr. Madden worked in defense industries and later joined the Army Air Corps in 1942, earning his pilot wings and commission as a second lieutenant in 1943. He flew 35 combat missions in Europe with the 448th Bomb Group. He left the service in 1947 to attend Temple University.

He was called to active duty in 1951. During World War II he trained as an aircraft commander. He flew 35 combat missions in Korea, as well as a number of classified missions.

He continued his service in the Air Force and began his graduate studies at the University of Texas. He received a master's degree in art in 1958 and a doctorate in 1960. He later received a master's degree in science in 1965 from George Washington University at the Army War College in Carlisle, Pa.

Dr. Madden served at Air Force Headquarters at the Pentagon as director of personnel planning from 1965 to 1968. In 1968 he became professor and first head of the department of psychology and leadership at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 18 Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired from the armed forces in 1970.

He became a professor of psychology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and helped to develop the graduate program in industrial and organizational psychology. He retired from RPI in 1986.

He played basketball and football, ran track, and competed in eventing and dressage. He was a senior dressage judge.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Ellen Sigmund of Philadelphia, Pa.; two daughters, Barbara Winsborough of Austin, Texas, and Sue Mandas of Dayton, Ohio, and a grandson.

He was predeceased by his first wife.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with a prayer, and continue at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 11 a.m. where a funeral Mass will be offered. Private burial services will be held in Arlington National Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home. A vigil service will be offered Tuesday evening.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Arlington Rescue Squad or the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Shaftsbury, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Florence E. Rice

GAYSVILLE - Florence E. Rice, 89, died April 28, 2001, as the result of a car accident in Clarendon.

She was born Feb. 11, 1912, in Bethel, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Davis) Flint.

She was educated in the Camp Brook School, Gaysville schools and Whitcomb High School.

She married Benjamin Rice on Dec. 31, 1939. He died in 1977.

Mrs. Rice worked as a housekeeper at Van Raalte Co., Randolph Furniture Co. and Ethan Allen, all in Randolph.

She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, gardening, reading and horses.

Survivors include a son, Theodore Rice of Gaysville; a brother, Ernest Flint of Stockbridge, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Otto Flint, and by two sisters, Mildred Boutwell and Olive Dorman.

The graveside service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery in Bethel, with the Rev. Timothy Eberhardt officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home.

Harold C. Dodge Jr.

ROCKINGHAM - Harold C. Dodge Jr., 37, died April 29, 2001, at his home.

He was born Nov. 15, 1963, in Bellows Falls, the son of Harold C. Dodge Sr. and Janis (Spinks) Bartlett.

He graduated from Bellows Falls Union High School in 1981.

Mr. Dodge worked for TMJ Foundations in Tennessee, owned his own cabinet building business at one time and worked for Key Concrete Cutting in Virginia.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Janis and Donald Bartlett Sr. of Bartonsville; his father and stepmother, Harold and Maryann Dodge Sr. of Bellows Falls; his paternal grandfather, Leslie (Hoppy) Dodge of Saxtons River; his maternal grandmother, Charlotte Davison of Springfield; two brothers, William Dodge of Ludlow and Peter Dodge of Bellows Falls; two sisters, Jessica Carrier of Newbury and Catherine Dodge of Bellows Falls; three stepbrothers, Alex Bartlett of Springfield, Donald Bartlett of Chester and Willy Bartlett of California, and many nieces and nephews.

The graveside funeral service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. in Saxtons River Cemetery.

Family and friends will gather Friday from 3 to 4 p.m. at Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home.

Lawrence A. Josselyn Sr.

LUDLOW - Lawrence "Stub" Arthur Josselyn Sr., 87, died April 28, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 14, 1913, in Grafton, the son of Arthur A. and Hallie Perkins (Cummings) Josselyn.

He attended school in Ludlow.

He married Veronica "Ronnie" Iwaskiewicz in 1936 in Chester. They moved from Ludlow to Mount Holly, where they lived for 20 years, before returning to Ludlow in 1957.

Mr. Josselyn worked for I. Goldberg, Green Mt. Woolen and General Electric Co. He retired from General Electric Co. in 1976.

He served in the National Guard, Company B.

He enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Ruth Fleury; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence A. "Stubbie" Josselyn Jr. in 1970.

There will be no funeral services. Mr. Josselyn will be cremated by the Eternal Flame Crematorium in Brattleboro.

A family gathering to celebrate Mr. Josselyn's life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ludlow Ambulance, Box 911, Ludlow, 05149.

Eileen Pratt

POWNAL - Eileen "Betty" Pratt, 77, died April 30, 2001, at Crescent Manor Care Centers in Bennington after a serious illness.

She was the daughter of John and Ida Andrews.

She married Robert T. Pratt on June 3, 1944. They met while Mr. Pratt was stationed in England during World War II. After they were married they moved to the United States.

Survivors include two sons, Stewart Pratt of Auburn, N.Y., and Milton Pratt of West Sand Lake, N.Y.; a daughter, Janeen Pratt of North Bennington, and two cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband and by a brother, John Andrews.

Mrs. Pratt volunteered at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for many years, and was a past president and member of the Pownal Senior Citizens. She was a member of the Pownal Senior Meals Group and the North Pownal Congregational Church.

The memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 W. Main St., in Bennington with the Rev. Gary Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Regional Cancer Center or the Bennington Area Home Health Agency, in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Donald H. Royce Jr.

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION - Military committal honors for Donald H. Royce Jr., who died March 21, 2001, at home, will be held Tuesday, May 8, at 10 a.m. at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.
