SHIRLEY G. FRENCH

ENOSBURG FALLS - Mrs. Shirley G. French, age 75, widow of Glenn French, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at her home surrounded by family and friends after a long illness.

She was born in Montgomery, Dec. 26, 1926. Shirley married Glenn French of Groton in 1945 and had made her home in Enosburg for most of her life. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Shirley had been employed at the Enosburg Bobbin Mill for several years, and in later years loved caring for children.

She is survived by three brothers, Frederick Geraw and his wife, Janice, of Enosburg, Edward Billows and Arlin Billows and his wife, Betty, both of St. Albans; special friends Alice Messier, Germaine Raymond, and Pat Collins; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband in 1993 and a daughter, Bonnie, in 1982.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 at the Spears Funeral Home on Dickinson Avenue in Enosburg, with Rev. Gerard Leclerc officiating. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday morning. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

For those who wish, contributions in her memory may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478.

LILLIAN J. GERVAIS

ENOSBURG - Lillian J. Gervais, age 88, widow of Roland Gervais, died Saturday evening Nov. 24, 2001, at Redstone Villa in St. Albans following a long illness.

She was born in St. Albans, Oct. 12, 1913, the daughter of the late Leon and Tessie (Libby) Jeffords.

Lillian had been a resident of Enosburg most of her life and a member of St. John the Paptist Church. She graduated from Enosburg Falls High School in 1932 and then Lyndon Normal School in 1934. She began her teaching career in East Haven and Corey School in Berkshire.

After marrying Roland and having six children, Lillian returned to teaching in Enosburg, Berkshire and Montgomery. She enjoyed young children, especially teaching them to read. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

Lillian belonged to many organizations and especially liked her Church, the Tyler Branch Grange # 498, the historical society, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Peter and Mary Gervais of Enosburg, and John and Suzanne Gervais of Greenville, S.C.; four daughters, Joan Murphy and her husband James of St. Albans, Lorraine Rumrill and her husband Richard of Charlestown, N.H., Susan Valley of Winooski, Betty Gelbar and her husband Alan of Rutland; a brother Merrill Jeffords and his wife Barbara of Enosburg; a sister Shirley LeBeau and her husband Stewart of California; 13 grandchildren, ; 16 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial funeral Mass will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg with Rev. Gerard Leclerc officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

ELINOR M. SPEAR

GRAND ISLE - Elinor M. Spear, 88, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Redstone Villa in St. Albans following a long illness.

Elinor was born in Wilmington, Delaware, Sept. 1, 1913, the only child of the late Haywood V. and Frances (Hallman) Winslow.

On March 12, 1941, she married George Spear at the Spear homestead in Essex Junction. Elinor and George were first introduced in 1939 by the late Gertrude and Charles Parrott of South Hero at a community dance at what is now the South Hero clerk's office.

Elinor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker whose family insists she was "the best cook in the world." She loved gardening and was also known to be a shrewd card player and investor

She was a member of the Dorcas Guild and a longtime member of O.E.S. Bethany Chapter # 71 of Essex Junction. Enormously proud of her North Carolina and Delaware Quaker heritage, Elinor could trace her Winslow ancestry to long before the voyage of The Mayflower.

She is survived by her devoted husband, George A Spear of Grand Isle; their three sons, George E. "Ned" Spear, II and his companion Betty Cheney of Swanton, Peter W. Spear of Concord, N.H., John W. Shivery of Ocean City, Md., five grandchildren, Carolyn Wehler, Matthew D. Spear, Jesse N. Spear, Daniel J. Spear, Suzanah Nosal; and great granddaughters, Anastasia and Kyra Nosal; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Elinor is also survived by her dear Aunt Charlotte Winslow Cromwell of Virginia Beach, Va.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Junction, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Visiting hours are Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Grand Isle Rescue, Faywood Rd., Grand Isle, Vt., 05458, or VNA Home Care, 1110 Prim Rd., Colchester, Vt. 05446.

ESTHER M. BESSETTE

RICHFORD/Deltona, Fla. - Mrs. Esther M. Bessette, age 75, widow of Marcel Bessette, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Fish Memorial Hospital in Orange City, Fla. following a brief illness.

Esther was born in Cowansville, P.Q., Sept. 13, 1926, the daughter of Douglas and Sara (Hamilton) McKelvey.

Mr. and Mrs. Bessette were married in 1948 and moved to Richford from Canada where they purchased a dairy farm in 1952. For the past seven years, Esther had made her home in Florida. While living in Richford, she was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Diana Bessette of Richford; a grandson Larry Bessette of Richford; two great-grandchildren Josylnn and Logan Bessette; and her companion Clarence Miller of Deltona, Fla.

Besides her husband, Marcel Bessette, she was predeceased by a daughter Lorraine Craig.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery, Richford.

Friends may call at the Spears Funeral Home on 140 Main St., Richford, Monday evening from 7 to 9.

YVONNE A. GABOURY

ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Yvonne A. Gaboury, age 86, died Friday morning, Nov. 23, 2001, in the Holiday House Nursing Home. She was born in Cowansville, Que., July 27, 1915, daughter of the late Pierre and Leopoldine (Larose) Archambault.

She was married to Urbain Gaboury in 1953. Mr. Gaboury died Nov. 27, 1999. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter # 321.

Her survivors include her brother Gerard Archambault of Cowansville, Que.; her sisters-in-law Georgette Archambault of Richford and Raymonde Bougie of Montreal, Que.; many nieces, nephews and cousins, including her special niece and Godchild Louise Archambault-DeRagon and her husband Serge DeRagon; and niece and caregiver Carol and her husband Giles Boisonneault.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday evening. Interment will be in the Gaboury family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

G. TRUMAN BOSWORTH

SWANTON - G. Truman Bosworth, 88, a longtime resident of Spring Street in Swanton Village died late Wednesday evening, Nov. 21, 2001, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

Truman was born in Mooers, N.Y., Dec. 12, 1912, the son of the late Floyd and Dora (Curtis) Bosworth. He graduated from Swanton High School nearly 70 years ago and on Aug. 7, 1942, married the former Dorcas Raymond, who survives him.

Truman was associated with the Vermont Bridge Commission serving as superintendent of the Rouses Point Bridge for nearly 18 years and earlier worked in law enforcement with both the Swanton Village Police and the Franklin County Sheriff's Departments. He was a 75-year parishioner of the Memorial United Methodist Church. He served as a lay preacher and conducted religious services in several churches throughout Franklin County area.

He was also a member and chaplain of Seventy-Six Lodge #14 F.&A.M. and a former member of the Mount Sinai Shriners #3. He and his wife, Dorcas, were also active in the Catholic Family Fellowship, the Catholic Golden Age and often served as lectors for the Roman Catholic Diocese weekly television mass. Truman was also a member of the Northeastern Fiddler's Association and the Franklin County Chapter of the AARP.

He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, Dorcas Bosworth of Swanton, he leaves a daughter, Rhoda Collins, her husband Thomas and their son Mark all of Middletown, N.Y.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at 2 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Donavee Copenhaver, pastor of the Missisquoi River Charge of the United Methodist Church, and Father John J. Meagher, SSE, pastor of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Members of Seventy-Six Lodge #14 F.&A.M. will conduct a Masonic Ritualistic Service at 6:30 p.m. Gifts in Truman's memory may be made to Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans 05478.

THOMAS STEPHEN COOK

WEST ENOSBURGH - Thomas Stephen Cook, age 12, died Wednesday morning at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington surrounded by his family and friends, following a courageous four-year battle with leukemia.

He was born in Burlington on Dec. 27, 1988, the son of Thomas E. and Deborah (Perley) Cook.

Thomas was in the seventh grade class and class treasurer at Enosburg Falls Middle School. He was a Ball Boy for the University of Vermont Men's Basketball Team for the past four seasons; this was a job in which he took great pride. He was also the 2001 Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Champion for the State of Vermont, an honor that he took very seriously. With this honor, he traveled to Washington, D.C. and met with President Bush and then went to Disney World to take part in the CMN National Telethon. He also took part in the local CMN Telethon.

There were so many things in life that Thomas enjoyed and appreciated, some of which were: playing basketball, four-wheeling, golfing with his Dad, going for walks, reading and listening to country music with his Mom, hunting with his friends, hiking with Laura, playing with his dog, Bo, farming with his grandfather and uncle, doing crafts with his grandmother, family gatherings and holidays and being with friends.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his adopted brother, Tony Orciari of Lyndonville, maternal grandparents, Stephen and Carolyn (Gates) Perley of Enosburgh, paternal grandparents, Elizabeth (Cifala) Sherman of Derwood, Maryland and Eugene and Ann Cook of Bradford, R.I.; maternal great grand parents, Charles Gates of Franklin, Winifred (Irish) DeGoosh of Franklin, and Fern (Simmons) Perley of Enosburg Falls; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and his dog, Bo.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 at the Enosburg Falls Methodist Church with Pastor Cheryl Heater officiating. Interment will follow in the Enosburgh Center Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Spears Funeral Home on 96 Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls.

For those who wish, contributions in Thomas' memory may be made to the Children's Miracle Network. Thomas Cook Fund, c/o Fletcher Allen Health Care, 111 Colchester Ave., Burlington, Vt. 05401. This fund in Thomas' memory will be used to help maintain the staff and resources in the Child Life Dept., which helps many families during their visits in the hospital.

Thomas' family would like to thank the staff at Fletcher Allen for the loving care that was given to Thomas over the past four years.
