Henry L. Rabtoy Sr.

Henry L. Rabtoy Sr., 63, of Rutland died Oct. 18, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 20, 1938, in Pawlet, the son of Lewis and Lillian(Russell) Rabtoy.

He attended Mount St. Joseph Academy.

Mr. Rabtoy had been employed by Vermont Marble Co., Howe Richardson Scale Co. and several construction companies in the area. Since retirement he had been towing cars and plowing driveways.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, American Legion Post 31 and a past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.

Survivors include five sons, Daniel Rabtoy, Kenneth Rabtoy and Victor Rabtoy, all of Rutland, Christopher Rabtoy of Wallingford and Henry Rabtoy of Chippenhook; a stepdaughter, Karen Flagg of Rutland; a stepson, Mark Flagg; two sisters, Mary Hier of Hubbardton and Virginia Brown of Rutland; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will follow in East Clarendon Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home in Rutland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Ms. Michel Clark, Office of Development for Infectious Diseases, 1 Medical Center Dr., Lebanon, N.H., 03756.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Aldous Funeral Home.

John J. Rosmus Jr.

John J. Rosmus Jr., 47, died Oct. 19, 2001, at his home.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Aldous Funeral Home.

Anne McTeigue

CLARENDON — Anne “Nan” McTeigue, 74, died Oct. 17, 2001, at her home.

She was born June 13, 1927, in Jersey City, N.J., the daughter of Patrick and Margaret (McGovern) McTeigue.

She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Jersey City.

She practiced as a registered nurse and later became a teacher at St. Francis School.

Survivors include a sister, Kathleen Marshall of Forked River, N.J.; and a niece and nephew.

She was predeceased by a brother, Patrick McTeigue.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Wallingford with the Rev. Robert McKnight, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Wallingford.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Katherine E. Dudley

MIDDLETOWN SPRINGS — Katherine E. Powers Dudley, 84, died Oct. 18, 2001, at Eden Park Nursing Home in Rutland after a long illness.

She was born Oct. 26, 1916, in Rutland, the daughter Raymond and Jenny (Segar) Powers.

She married Cecil Dudley on Aug. 19, 1936, in Poultney.

Mrs. Dudley served as postmaster of the Middletown Springs Post Office for 20 years, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Middletown Springs and former member of the Round About Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Cecile Carmen of Las Vegas, Nev., and Margaret Corey of Brandon; two sons, James Dudley of Middletown Springs and William Dudley of Rutland; a sister, Jane Milizia of Winooski; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1982 and two brothers, Raymond Powers and John Powers.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Middletown Springs with the Rev. Richard Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Middletown Springs.

The family will receive friends at the home of her son James Dudley on Dudley Road in Middletown Springs following the service.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Middletown Springs First Response through the office of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 181, Poultney, 05764.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home.

Eugene A. Fredette rites

PITTSFORD — The service of remembrance for Eugene A. “Mike” Fredette, 71, who died Oct. 15, 2001, was held Friday at the United Methodist Church in Rutland with the Rev. Edward Hackett Jr. officiating. The committal service followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Pittsford. A graveside Masonic service was conducted by brothers of St. Paul’s Lodge, F&AM, of Brandon.

Pianist was Ellen Wakker accompanied by the church choir.

Personal memories were given by David Pratt.

A time for fellowship and refreshment followed in the church Fellowship Hall after the service.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

Edward T. Carvey Sr. rites.

FAIR HAVEN — The funeral Mass for Edward T. Carvey Sr., 90, who died Oct. 14, 2001, was held Friday at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven with the Rev. Richard Tinney, parish priest, officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Ministers of the altar were Walter Dorion, Joe Drain and Clem Levesque.

Organist was Nancy Wetherby and soloists were Lis Keating, a granddaughter, and Richard Frazier.

The eulogy was given by Bob Bascom.

Words of remembrance were offered by Shane Carvey.

Bearers were Jason Carvey, Scott Tibbetts, Fred Brooks Jr., James Brooks, Chris Carvey and Don Niles.

A wake service was conducted Thursday evening at the funeral home by the Rev. Tinney.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home.

Harry A. Silloway

WINDSOR — Harry A. Silloway, 73, died Oct. 18, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Pittsford, the son of Paul and Geraldine (Silloway) Silloway.

He attended Windsor High School.

Mr. Silloway married Marguerite “Maggie” Moore on July 2, 1955, in Windsor.

He was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Windsor for 36 years, retiring in 1976.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Vermont National Guard.

Mr. Silloway was a 50-year member of American Legion Post 25 in Windsor and a member of the former Odd Fellows Lodge in Windsor and Windsor Elks Lodge 1665.

He was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed walking.

Survivors include his wife of Windsor; a son, E. Peter Silloway of Exeter, N.H.; two daughters, Deborah A. Walt of Athol, Idaho, and Paula J. Hebert of Windsor; a brother, Richard Silloway of Warren, Maine; four grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Nathalie Jenks in 1966.

A military graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow at the American Legion Hall in Windsor.

Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. A prayer service will be recited at 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Paul N. Belhumeur, MS, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Windsor.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Windsor Visiting Nurses Association, in care of Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center, 289 County Road, Windsor, 05089, or Norris Cotton Cancer Center, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, N.H., 03756.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home.

Adis P. Mackey

CHESTER — Adis P. Mackey, 82, died Oct. 18, 2001, at Springfield Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 1, 1919, in Greenfield, Mass., the daughter of Ernest and Nell (Waite) Peck of Weston.

She married Waino O. Mackey on Sept. 3, 1938, in Chester.

Mrs. Mackey was employed at Taylor Ties for many years and later at Readex Corp., both in Chester.

She was a member and deaconess of the First Baptist Church in Chester and president of the Ladies Fellowship for many years. She was also a volunteer at the Visiting Nurse Association, Chester Andover Family Center and Weston Historical Society.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria M. Woodbury of Wilmington, N.C., and Diane Maki of Dedham, Mass.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1985.

The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Chester with the Rev. Thomas Charleton, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Chester.

The family will receive friends at the Mackey home on Grafton Street immediately following the committal service.

There will be no visiting hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Chester, P.O. Box 187, Chester, 05143 or Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Vermont, 366 River St., Springfield, 05156.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Irene W. Hostler

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Irene Whitney Hostler died at age 90 on Tuesday, October, 16, 2001, at the Culpeper Regional Hospital.

Irene Hostler was born July 24, 1911, in Springfield, Vermont. She graduated from Springfield High School, was an acting member of the Jenny Lund Theatre Group and named Miss Vermont. She married John Gerald Hostler on January 11, 1939. They resided in Rutland, Vermont, until his death in 1952.

Irene Whitney Hostler was recognized over her lifetime for her creativity with flowers, crafts (Christmas ornaments her specialty) and food. She won the National Sandwich-making Contest in 1972 in a televised cook-off with professional chefs in New York City. After her retirement in 1979 as the cafeteria director of the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, she moved to Charlottesville. She continued to bake for family and neighbors and remained an avid reader and crossword fiend until her death.

The deceased is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. Hostler, and son-in-law, Joseph Boardman of Charlottesville; a granddaughter, Kathleen A. Dimock; and partner, Deborah A. Rutter of Seattle, Wash.; a grandson, Dylan A. Dimock and wife Julie A. Blackwood of Wilmington, N.C.; and a cousin, Thelma Mitchell of Edenton, N.C. Additional family members include Gioia L. Dimock of Alexandria, Va.; Dorothy, Sarah and Richard McNamara of Cape Cod, Mass.; and Stephen, Skyla, Darby, Phoebe and Kate Hendricks of Vienna, Va.

The family expresses gratitude to the friends and neighbors who contributed to the high quality of Irene Whitney Hostler’s life over the last year of illness; the physicians (Dr. Christine DiVincentis and Dr. John Schildwachter of Charlottesville, Dr. Thomas Reynolds and Dr. Mortimer Chiles of Culpeper) whose medical expertise and humanism supported her choices for independence; and the therapists and nurses (Culpeper Healthcare Facility and Culpeper Regional Hospital) whose compassion and competence provided her dignity of spirit.

The life of Irene Whitney Hostler will be celebrated at a memorial service on December 23, 2001. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of the deceased to the Children’s Medical Center or the Hospice Program at the University of Virginia.

Hill & Wood Funeral Service in Charlottesville, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
