Ruth V. Dubey

LUDLOW — Ruth V. Dubey, 84, of Daytona Beach, Fla., and formerly of Ludlow, died Nov. 10, 2001, at Manor on the Green Nursing Home.

She was born March 19, 1917, in Middletown Springs.

She and her husband, Lawrence, owned and operated Ruth’s Restaurant in Ludlow for many years. Later they moved to South Daytona, Fla., and owned and operated the Fairway Restaurant.

Survivors include a son, LaVerne Breault of Winchendon, Mass.; a daughter, Jean Smith of Ludlow; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Dubey in 1988; and a son, Gerald Breault in 1991.

Mrs. Dubey will be buried in Ludlow.

William Mitchell

BELLOWS FALLS — William Mitchell, 54, died Nov. 20, 2001.

He was born Feb. 9, 1947, in Bellows Falls, the son of Wilson and Blanche (Kissell) Mitchell.

He graduated from Bellows Falls High School in 1965 and from Indiana Institute of Technology in 1969.

Mr. Mitchell worked as a mechanical engineer for Combustion Engineers in Connecticut for 17 years, Penn Power in Florida and most recently Foster Wheeler in New Jersey.

Survivors include four sisters, Patricia Zalewski of North Reading, Mass., Carol Godsoe of Knoblesville, Ind., Mary Lacroix of Concord, N.H., and Jane Mitchell of Walpole, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.

Raymond H. Filion

WESTMORELAND, N.H. — Raymond Henry Filion, 85, died Nov. 21, 2001, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland following a period of declining health.

He was born Aug. 21, 1916, in Brattleboro, Vt., the son of Hector and Ruth (Watson) Filion.

He attended schools in Brattleboro and Kurn Hattin School in Westminster, Vt.

Mr. Filion married Anna McCullough on Aug. 29, 1943, in Brattleboro.

He was employed in the building maintenance department at the Norwich (Vt.) Day Care Center for 18 years and Montshire Museum in Norwich, retiring in 1997. He had previously been employed in the propane gas service business for 30 years with Rudy Hammarlund, Huestis Plumbing and Heating Supply and Suburban Propane. He had also worked as an ice cutter for Crystal Ice and Fuel Inc.

Mr. Filion had served as a call firefighter on the Brattleboro Fire Department.

He was carpenter and enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include a son, Richard Filion of Springfield, Vt.; a daughter, Joyce Arceci of Jaffrey; a sister, Ruthana Hudson of Brattleboro; a grandson; and a niece and nephew.

He was predeceased by a nephew in 2000.

The graveside committal service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in Townshend, Vt., with the Rev. Fred Laughman, pastor of the Pioneer Baptist Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Windham County Humane Society, 916 West River Road, Brattleboro, Vt., 05301.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Atamaniuk Funeral Home.

Agnes B. Stevens

BRIDGEWATER — Agnes Blanchard Stevens, 98, died Nov. 21, 2001, at Eden Park Nursing Home in Rutland.

She was born Nov. 2, 1903, in Windham, the daughter of Abraham and Bessie (Harriman) Merriam.

She worked at the Bridgewater Woolen Mill for many years, took in borders, operated a small bakery, helped with the school lunch program and made a home for many children from the Brandon Training School.

She delivered many of her own grandchildren and enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include two daughters, Winona Kennedy of Bridgewater Corners and Nellie Prouty of Rutland; two sons, Gilbert Blanchard of Cavendish and Warren Blanchard of Bridgewater; a sister, Evelyn Harriman; 43 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by four children, Wilbur Blanchard Jr., Wilford Blanchard, Wilman Blanchard and Marie Doyle; four brothers, Hazen, Floyd, Harold and Gail; six sisters, Jennie Mosher, Amy Hutt, Ruby Brown, Claris Bourey, Ada Allard and Anna Belimer; and her first husband, Wilbur Blanchard.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Bridgewater Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock.

Friends may call on hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bridgewater Congregational Church, P.O. Box 4, Bridgewater, 05034.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.

Thornton F. Turner II

BENNINGTON — Thornton Floyd Turner II, 72, died Nov. 16, 2001, in Naples, Fla.

He was the son of Herbert Turner and Muriel McEwen.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Turner; a daughter, Elizabeth Lowe; a brother, Hiland Turner; three grandchildren; and two nephews.

The graveside committal service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Bennington Centre Cemetery in Old Bennington with the Rev. Mary Lee Clark, pastor of the Second Congregational Church, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Park McCullough House, in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Priscilla Coffin Rites

BENNINGTON — The graveside funeral service for Priscilla Coffin, 61, who died Nov. 19, 2001, was held Wednesday in Park Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Cass Gilbert officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Katherine Moore Rites

PROCTORSVILLE — The funeral Mass for Katherine “Anna” Moore, 96, who died Nov. 15, 2001, was held Tuesday at Holy Name of Mary Church in Proctorsville with the Rev. George Paulin as celebrant. Burial followed in Cavendish Village Cemetery.

Organist was Patricia Wilk and soloist was Don Hoffer.

A reception was held in the Parish Hall by the Holy Name of Mary Altar Society following the service.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Home.

Frederick C. Degener Sr. Rites

PROCTORSVILLE — The memorial Mass for Frederick C. Degener Sr., 88, who died Nov. 18, 2001, was held Wednesday at Holy Name of Mary Church in Proctorsville with the Rev. Paul Sackevich and the Rev. George Paulin as celebrants.

Organist was Patricia Wilk and Charlie, Mr. Degener’s grandson, played the piano. Soloist was Sue, a daughter-in-law.

A reception was held in the Parish Hall by the Holy Name of Mary Altar Society following the Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cavendish Elementary School, in care of George Thompson, 753 Main St., Cavendish, 05153.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Home.

Wallace E. Coyle Rites

SPRINGFIELD — The funeral service for Wallace E. Coyle, 78, who died Nov. 18, 2001, was held Wednesday at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield with the Rev. William Nelson, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.

Members of Robert L. Johnson Post 771 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Chester American Legion and Ludlow American Legion provided military honors. The flag was presented to the family by Vito DeMarko. Carlos Welch sounded taps.

Bearers were Brian Coyle, Paul Putnam, Roy Stearns, Alan Pinders and Rich Parker, all of Springfield, and Jason Shattuck of Perkinsville.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.

Irene K. Korda

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. — Irene Krauss Korda passed away peacefully at home in Newbury Park, California, on Saturday, November 3, 2001, at the age of 98. Born in Kolasvar, Hungary, on May 31, 1903, she came to the United States with her family at the age of 3; living first in New Jersey, then making their home in Far Rockaway, New York. On November 30, 1924, she married Abraham Armin Korda (also born in Hungary). In 1948, they moved with their three sons to Los Angeles, California, where she was a devoted homemaker until she died. A wonderful cook, her children and grandchildren were always calling for her recipes, especially her Hungarian dishes.

Surviving Irene are her sons, Jerome Korda, an accountant of Newbury Park, California, Robert Korda, violinist/orchestra leader of Los Angeles, California, daughter-in-law, Joan Korda, innkeeper, Orwell, Vermont. Beloved grandmother to 14 grandchildren, Sidney and Margaret Korda, Orwell, Vermont, Suzanne and Case Roorda, New Haven, Vermont, Anthony and Kathryn Korda, Bridport, Vermont, Elizabeth Korda, Woodland Hills, California, Cindy LaGuercio, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Noel Korda, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jenni and Tom Crabb, Grass Valley, California, Heather and William Grant, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Teddi and David Butcher, Newbury Park, California, Noah Korda and Sarah Korda, both of Los Angeles, California, and Jennifer Smith, Oakview, California; 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Irene was predeceased by Abraham Korda, her husband of 63 years, who died on October 22, 1987, at the age of 92; an infant son who died at birth in 1926; and by her son, Murray Korda, internationally known violinist and orchestra leader and innkeeper of Los Angeles, California and Orwell, Vermont, who died in Vermont on September 30, 1998.

Funeral services were held in Los Angeles, California, on November 7, 2001, for family on the West Coast. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Orwell, Vermont. Rabbi Ira Schiffer of Havurah and Middlebury College will officiate. A reception for friends and family will follow at Historic Brookside Farms, the Korda family home in Orwell.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Isabelle T. LaFayette Rites

MIDDLEBURY — The funeral Mass for Isabelle Thompson LaFayette, 89, who died Nov. 21, 2001, was celebrated Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Peter O’Leary at celebrant. The graveside committal service and burial followed in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol.

Organist was Donald Corbett.

Reader was David Burke.

Words of remembrance were given by JoAnn Burke Fisher.

Pallbearers were JoAnn Burke Fisher, Jayna Walker, David Burke and John Burke.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Sanderson Funeral Service.

Robert J. Fingon

Funeral services for Robert J. Fingon, 50, of Rutland, who died Friday afternoon, will be held Tues-day at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church.

Arrange-ments are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to the Pico Race Program, P.O. Box 341, Rutland, 05702.

Charlotte M. Moore

CASTLETON - Mrs. Charlotte Mary Moore, 94, died Aug. 28, 2000, at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Rutland, Vt.

Mrs. Moore was born on May 30, 1906, in Whitestone, N.Y., the daughter of the late William and Mary Ann (VonKalstein) Chmielewski. Charlotte was employed for several years as a chef at the Link's Golf Club in North Hills, N.Y., retiring in 1975. While residing in New York, Mrs. Moore was a member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Floral Park (N.Y.), and after relocating to Castleton in 1991 she became a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

She is survived by her son, Mr. Arthur R. Moore and his wife, Kathy of Castleton, Vt. Kathy was more than a daughter-in-law, she was also her best friend and caregiver for a number of years. Charlotte is also survived by her two granddaughters, Christine Maseroni of Pittsford, Vt., Veronica Flanders of Chittenden, Vt., her five great-granddaughters, Sarah and Michelle Maseroni, Meghan, Kelly and Jillian Flanders, and also by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester B. Moore, USN Retired, who died June 24, 1978, and by her 10 brothers and sisters.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven. The Rev. Richard Tinney, parish priest, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Moore may be given to the Castleton First Response, in care of Mrs. Mary Anne Jakubowski, Box 727, Castleton, Vt., 05735.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home of Fair Haven, Vt.

Mary A. Whitman rites

WEST CASTLETON - The funeral Mass for Mary A. Whitman, 83, who died Aug. 23, 2000, at the Bay Path Nursing Home in Duxbury, Mass., was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven by the Rev. Richard Tinney, parish priest. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fair Haven.

Organist was Nancy Wetherby and soloist was Richard Frazier.

Eulogist was Dr. James Whitman, Mrs. Whitman's son. Words of remembrance were given by her grandchildren.

Bearers were Patrick Whitman, Deidre Whitman, Jennifer Southworth, Courtney Whitman, Christopher Johnson, Joseph Whitman, Michael Whitman and Jimmy Whitman, all grandchildren.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home of Fair Haven.
