Verna L. Rabtoy

PERKINSVILLE — Verna Louise Rabtoy, 71, a longtime resident of Perkinsville, Vt., died Feb. 3, 2002, in her home after a long illness.

She was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Tinmouth, Vt., the daughter of Iris (Johnson) Blanchard and Guy Henry Blanchard.

She married Roy Stanley Rabtoy on May 21, 1950.

Mrs. Rabtoy was a devoted wife and mother, and her family was her life. She loved gardening, reading, doing crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Roy “Stan” Rabtoy of Perkinsville; a son, Vernon Rabtoy of Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Teena Fuller of Ludlow and Rhonda Dean of Chester; seven grandchildren, Sean Rabtoy of Claremont, N.H., Christopher and Sarah Rabtoy of Windsor, Amy and Jeffrey Davis, both of Cavendish, Nicholas Dean of Enfield, Conn., and Nathaniel Dean of Chester; three sisters, Rita Graves, Thelma Blanchard and Sylvia Williams; three brothers, William, Fordyce and John Blanchard. Mrs. Rabtoy is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Irma Hulett; and two brothers, Walter and Marvin Blanchard.

Mrs. Rabtoy touched many lives and had a very large circle of loving, caring friends who meant so much to her.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Plains Cemetery in Weathersfield.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, respects to Verna be paid through contributions in her memory to the Visiting Nurse Alliance of Vermont and New Hampshire, and/or Springfield Area Hospice to help continue their wonderful services to others in need.

Irene S. Moyer

WOODSTOCK — Irene S. Moyer, 79, died Feb. 3, 2002, at Mount Ascutney Hospital in Windsor.

She was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Cavendish, the daughter of Russell and Nancy (Johnson) Stocker.

She was a caregiver in the Woodstock area and worked at the Dewey’s Woolen Mill. She also worked at Tip Top Bakery in White River Junction for many years.

Survivors include a son, Charles Dubeau of Woodstock; a granddaughter; four brothers, Russell Stocker of Ludlow, Robert Stocker of Florence, Alfred Stocker of Gassetts and Francis Stocker of Ludlow; two sisters, Betty Patt of Southington, Conn., and Norma Martin of Ascutney.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Moyer in 2001; a brother, Frederick Stocker; and two sisters, Arlene Stocker and Salley Walker.

A graveside service will be held in Prosper Cemetery at a later date.

Contributions may be made to the Woodstock Visiting Nurses, 32 Pleasant St., Woodstock, 05091.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.

Eugene A. Gamache

BENNINGTON — Eugene A. Gamache, 72, died Feb. 4, 2002, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.

He was born May 19, 1929, in North Adams, Mass., the son of Alderic and Dorothy (Sunn) Gamache.

He graduated from Drury High School and attended North Adams State College.

He had been employed at Sprague Electric in the production department and as an engineer in the research laboratory, and most recently as a security guard.

Mr. Gamache was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Third Order of Carmelites, and was a communicant of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Manseau) Gamache of Huntington, Mass.; two sons, Robert Gamache of Clarisa, Minn., and David Gamache of North Adams, Mass.; three daughters, Terry Arthur of Pittsfield, Mass., Paula Mears of Bennington and Donna Gamache of North Adams, Mass.; two brothers, Kenneth Gamache of North Adams, Mass., and Carl Gamache of Louisiana; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Gamache.

A prayer service will be offered Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Interment will follow in South View Cemetery in North Adams, Mass.

Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The recitation of the rosary will take place at 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, North Adams Council, in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Clemontine T. Hadfield

SPRINGFIELD — Clemontine T. Hadfield, 94, died Feb. 4, 2002, at Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Aug. 15, 1907, in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Samuel and Catherine (McFerson) Thomas.

She attended schools in Rhode Island.

She married William Hadfield, who died in 1967.

Mrs. Hadfield attended Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield. She was a member of the Columbia Rebekah Lodge 21 and a past nobel grand. She was past president of the Women’s Bowling League, a longtime member of the Springfield Senior Center, its RSVP and the Senior Songsters. She was chosen as Springfield Senior of the Year in 1983.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Abrahamovich of Lunenburg, Mass.; and two nieces.

She was predeceased by a brother, Samuel Thomas.

There will be no calling hours.

The memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield with the Rev. Thomas Hiltsley, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will take place in Beech Grove Cemetery in Westport, Mass., at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Springfield Senior Center, 139 Main St., Springfield, 05156.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Richard E. Fetcho

WILLIAMSVILLE — Richard E. Fetcho, 44, died Jan. 31, 2002, at his home with lymphoma.

He was born Aug. 30, 1957, the son of John Jr. and Catherine (Cherniske) Fetcho.

He graduated from Shepaug Valley High School in New Preston, Conn., in 1975.

Mr. Fetcho worked as a chef in Manchester, as well as in sales and private ventures. He also co-operated the Depot Deli and Pizza in Chester until his illness prevented him from doing so.

Survivors include his partner, John Dery; three children, Tyler and Erica of Dorset and Melissa of Townshend; a brother, Zachary of Salem, N.H.; his paternal grandmother, Stella of New Milford, Conn.; and several cousins, uncles and aunts.

The memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in West Brattleboro.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to John W. Dery, P.O. Box 334, Townshend, 05353.

Genevera D. Ward-Banks

WINDSOR — Genevera D. Ward-Banks, 90, died Feb. 4, 2002, at Mount Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.

Edwin L. Larkin Sr.

SHARON — Edwin L. Larkin Sr., 75, died Feb. 1, 2002, at the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in White River Junction with cancer.

He was born March 6, 1926, in Tunbridge, the son of Earl and Mabel (Stender) Larkin.

He attended South Royalton High School.

He worked as a sawyer for his father’s sawmill, B.E. Lord & Sons of East Barre, for many years, and Laque’s and Brassards in Barre. He also had his own logging company.

Mr. Larkin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seabee, and landed in Japan soon after the atomic bombs were dropped.

He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and member of the American Legion Fuller-Stearns Post 51 in South Royalton.

Survivors include his second wife, Betty (Pierce) Larkin of Sharon, whom he married in December 1999; four sons, Edwin Larkin of Northfield, Stephen Larkin of East Montpelier, Daniel Larkin of Washington and Milton Larkin of Northfield; two daughters, Linda Morris of Orange and Cynthia Howarth of Washington; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnus Carpenter and Phyllis Cushman, both of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Blanche (Smith) Larkin, in 1997; three brothers; and a sister.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Tunbridge Congregational Church with the Rev. David L. Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in Tunbridge Village Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea.

Memorial contributions may be made to the South Royalton Rescue Squad, in care of Corinne Ingraham, 52 Roberts Road, South Royalton, 05068.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home.

Ivan M. McGranaghan

EAST CHARLESTON — Ivan M. McGranaghan, 74, died Feb. 3, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire.

Arrangements are pending at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction.

Matthew Rochelle

BENNINGTON — Matthew Rochelle, 24, died Feb. 4, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with cystic fibrosis.

He was born Sept. 22, 1977, in Bennington, the son of Shane and Francis (Bishop) Rochelle.

He graduated from Arlington Memorial High School.

Mr. Rochelle had been employed at McDonald’s.

He was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed wrestling and stock car racing, and was a league bowler.

Survivors include his father of Bennington; two sisters, Tammy Dickinson of Shaftsbury and Vicki Dickinson of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; a brother, John Dow of Bennington; his grandparents, Gordon and Shirley Rochelle of Sunderland; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date in West Arlington Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Rolland J. Landry

BRATTLEBORO — Rolland J. “Frenchy” Landry, 85, died Feb. 2, 2002, at his home.

He was born Dec. 22, 1916, in Napierville, Quebec, the son of Egide and Clara (Gregoire) Landry.

He attended schools in Canada.

He married Eugenie Belanger on Feb. 12, 1944, in Rouville County, Canada. She died in 1994.

Mr. Landry moved to Montgomery in 1947 and worked in farming until he moved to Brattleboro in 1962, where he worked in the construction business and private auto sales.

He served in the Army in Canada.

Mr. Landry also bought and sold used cars.

Survivors include two sons, Roger Landry of Alstead, N.H., and Norman Landry of Boise, Idaho; two daughters, Muriel Cray of Wells and Monique Landry of Poultney; a brother, Edgar Landry of Miami, Fla.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls. Burial will take place at a later date in Acworth Cemetery in Acworth, N.H.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home.
