Kenneth Winham

ALSTEAD, N.H. — Kenneth Winham, 51, died Feb. 17, 2002.

He was born Oct. 15, 1950, the son of Harold and Elizabeth (Mousley) Winham.

He graduated from Fall Mountain High School.

Mr. Winham worked as a road agent for the town of Alstead for 21 years.

He enjoyed old-time country and western music, and his main interest in life was his construction equipment and tools.

Survivors include his mother; four sisters, Lois Steele Whidden of Saxtons River, Vt., Margaret Gacek of Syracuse, N.Y., Nancie Jarvis of Surry and Donna Winham of Palmdale, Calif.; two nieces; two nephews; one great-nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Third Congregational Church in Alstead with the Rev. Janice Howe officiating.

Calling hours will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls, Vt.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Friendly Meals, P.O. Box 191, Alstead, 03602.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home.

Robert J. Lampert

TYSON — Robert John “Trapper” Lampert, 72, died Feb. 16, 2002, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Newbury.

He was born March 4, 1929, in Ludlow, the son of Charles and Mary (Zanti) Lampert.

He graduated from Black River High School in 1948.

Mr. Lampert worked as a lineman with Ludlow Electric, retiring in 1981. He also worked as a construction worker, carpenter and builder.

He served with the U.S. Army.

Survivors include a son, Jonathan Lampert of Tyson; two daughters, Julie Postler of Thetford and Jessica Melville of Plymouth; a brother, Zolton Lampert of Hinsdale, N.H.; a sister, Irene Serfass of Connecticut; his former wife, Sandra Stryhas Lampert of Tyson; a granddaughter; three grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private memorial service in celebration of Mr. Lampert’s life will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Vermont Trappers Association, in care of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home, 26 Franklin St., Brandon, 05733, or the Ludlow Rod & Gun Club, in care of Richard Strong, 7 Parker Ave., Ludlow, 05149.

Arrangements are under the director of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Lucy A. VanOrman Rites

BENNINGTON — The graveside committal service for Lucy A. VanOrman, who died Feb. 13, 2002, was held Saturday in White Chapel cemetery with the Rev. George D. Eberly, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Vocalist was Emily Keller, a great-granddaughter.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Henry A. Pinsonneault Sr. Rites

BENNINGTON — The funeral Mass for Henry A. Pinsonneault Sr., who died Feb. 15, 2002, was celebrated Tuesday at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church with the Rev. Vincent J. Coppola, associate pastor, as celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date in Park Lawn cemetery.

Organist was Donald McMahon and soloist was Alison Young.

Bearers were Tim Pinsonneault Sr., Tim Pinsonneault Jr., Steve Dennis and Brian Barth.

The wake service was offered Monday evening at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home by the Rev. Coppola.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Ralph M. Ellis

FAIR HAVEN — Ralph Morton Ellis, 77, died Feb. 14, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 27, 1924, in Castleton, the son of George and Kate (St. John) Ellis.

He had worked on the family farm in Benson for many years, and later was employed by the Tatko Brothers Slate Co. in Fair Haven, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Helen (Arnold) Fortier Ellis of Fair Haven; two stepdaughters, Joan Ellis of Fair Haven and Jean Blackmere of Rutland; a stepson, Raymond Fortier of Castleton; a sister, Betty Jean Delphia of Blissville; three brothers, William Ellis and Earl Ellis, both of Fair Haven, and Benjamin Ellis of Glens Falls, N.Y.; 11 step grandchildren, several step great-grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Martha Bowen; and three brothers, Leo, George and Raymond Ellis.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven with the Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp, pastor of First Congregational Church, UCC, in Fair Haven, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Hillside cemetery in Castleton.

Calling hours will be held Sun-day from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Fair Haven Rescue Squad, 17 Prospect St., Fair Haven, 05743.

Arrangements are under the di-rection of the Durfee Funeral Home.

Berenice H. Gibbs

CASTLETON — The memorial service for Berenice Hall Gibbs, 92, who died Feb. 8, 2002, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Hubbard-ton Congregational Church with the Rev. Mark Russell, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Lake View cemetery in Hubbardton.

Following the service, the family will receive friends at the Trak Inn Restaurant on Route 30 beginning at 2 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven.

Richard H. Bell

MANCHESTER — Richard H. Bell, 87, former resident of Ells-worth, Maine, died Feb. 14, 2002, at the “Our Home” assisted living facility in Rutland.

He was born in Mars Hill, Maine, the son of Thomas and Mildred (Bragdon) Hill.

He attended local schools in Maine.

He married Kathleen Early.

Mr. Bell had moved to Pennsyl-vania where he worked for Beth-le-hem Steel as an industrial engineer for many years.

Survivors include one son, one daughter, one brother, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three nephews.

The private graveside service will be held in Bethlehem Mem-or-ial Park cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester.

Paul J. Sherwood

WARDSBORO — Paul Jay Sherwood, 61, died Feb. 14, 2002, at his home.

He was born Nov. 6, 1940, in Oceanside, N.Y., the son of Arthur and Blanche (Burger) Sherwood.

He grew up on Long Island, N.Y., and graduated from high school, later attended Amherst College and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a DMD.

He married Elizabeth Acucena on June 15, 1980, in Manchester, Conn.

Mr. Sherwood was a dentist with his own practice, Bolton Family Dentistry, in Bolton, Conn., for many years. He retired to Caven-dish, where he and his wife purchased and operated a general store.

He later moved to Wardsboro and began a career in real estate sales, and has been a sales associate at Century 21 Carriage Realty in West Dover for the past 10 years.

He was elected to the Century 21 Hall of Fame in 1998.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Daniel Sherwood; a daughter, Hay-ley Sherwood; two stepdaughters, Julie Aroian of Berlin, Conn., and Lisa Winn of South Kingston, R. I.; two brothers, Louis Sherwood of Pennsylvania and Stanley Sher-wood of New York City; five step grandchildren; and nieces, neph-ews and cousins.

A service of remembrance will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Covey & Allen Funeral Home in Wilmington with the Rabbi Noah Kitty of Congregation Shir Heha-rim of Brattleboro officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in West Wardsboro cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Windham County Hu-mane Society, in care of the Covey & Allen Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, 05363.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Covey & Allen Funeral Home.

Carley R. Newcity Jr.

SHARON — Carley R. Newcity Jr., 74, died Feb. 14, 2002, at Brook-side Nursing Home in White River Junction.

He was born May 28, 1927, in Stowe, the son of Carley and Ruby (Trombley) Newcity.

He attended school in Hyde Park and Morrisville.

He married Nora LaPlant on May 12, 1950, in Barton.

Mr. Newcity and his wife moved to Sharon where he drove truck for Petco Oil for a time. He later worked as a poultry inspector for the U.S. Department of Agricul-ture in New York and Maryland, as the first state meat inspector for the Ver-mont Department of Agriculture in Sudbury, and as a compliance officer in Montpelier, retiring in 1990. After retirement he sold used cars at Newcity Auto Sales.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served with the Sea-bees in Guam during World War II.

He was a member of the Hart-ford BPO Elks Lodge 1541 in Hartford, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2571 and American Legion Post 26, both in White River Junc-tion, and past member of the Masonic Lodge in South Royalton.

Mr. Newcity enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He had been a golden gloves boxer and played town team baseball in Sharon for many years.

Survivors include his wife of Sharon; five sons, Gaylord and Lance, both of Hartford, Darcey of Sharon, Shawn of Hartland and Victor of Norwich; six grandchildren; two brothers, Richard of Stowe and Wallace of Brownsville; three sisters, Elaine Brochu of Col-chester, Sandra Holmes and Linda Lewis, both of Bethel; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a bro-ther, Theodore Newcity.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junc-tion. Burial will take place at a later date in the Vermont Veteran’s Mem-orial cemetery in Randolph Center.

Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Silver Towers Camp, in care of Hartford Elks, P.O. Box 502, Hartford, 05047, or Brookside Nursing Home Ac-tivities Fund, 120 Christian St., White River Junction, 05001.

Arrangements are under the di-rection of the Knight Funeral Home.

Gilbert E. Sweet

WESTMORELAND, N.H. — Gilbert E. Sweet, 81, died Feb. 14, 2002, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland.

He was born April 30, 1920, in Andover, Vt., the son of Wilbur Sweet and Edith Lent.

He was educated in Andover.

He worked as a logger in An-dover, and drove a truck in Andover and for F.W. Whitcomb in Walpole. He also drove a bus for the Chester School District, and retired from Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield, Vt.

Mr. Sweet enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Kyle of Keene; a son, Wayne Sweet of Charlestown; three brothers, Norman Sweet of Chester, Arthur Sweet of Connecticut and Earl Davis of North Springfield, Vt.; two sisters, Irene Dodd of Connecticut and Myra Meeker of Washington State; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Eva Giles; two brothers, Seymour Sweet and Hollis Sweet.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Chester.

Friends may call Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes.
