Sylvia R. Rosen

BURLINGTON — The funeral service for Sylvia R. Rosen, 82, who died April 1, 2002, will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Rutland Jewish Center. Burial will follow in the Rutland Jewish cemetery in North Clarendon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland Jewish Center, 96 Grove St., Rutland, 05701.

A. Pauline DeRosia

FAIR HAVEN — The memorial service for A. Pauline DeRosia, 72, who died April 1, 2002, will be held today at 5:45 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Tinney, pastor of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven, officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Joseph T. Guy Rites

WEST RUTLAND — The funeral Mass for Joseph T. Guy, 84, who died March 31, 2002, was celebrated Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Rutland with the Rev. James McShane, pastor, as celebrant. Concelebrant was the Rev. John Herbert, associate pastor of St. Peter’s Church in Rutland. Burial will be at a later date in Sacred Heart cemetery in West Rutland.

Organist was Richard Brown and soloist was Lori Routhier.

American Legion Post 31 of Rutland provided military honors. James Burke made the flag presentation.

Bearers were Matthew Guy, Robert Aronson, Craig Shappy and Irving Shappy.

A prayer service was held Wednesday evening at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Fred Picker

DUMMERSTON — Fred Picker, 75, died April 3, 2002.

He graduated from the Putney School and attended the University of Vermont.

He worked in the family wine business with his father, Harold Picker, and uncle, Jerome Picker, and pursued real estate development in Westchester County, N.Y., until the late 1960s. He was a photographer, author and teacher. He designed and marketed photographic equipment, published a quarterly newsletter, directed a summer workshop program, and was a consultant to the Polaroid Corp.

Mr. Picker served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe.

He was a board member of the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, a member of the Vermont Diversion Board, and a governor’s appointee to the Vermont Council of the Arts.

He taught skiing, raced sailboats and loved to fish with a fly rod. He enjoyed jazz and classical music, and gourmet cooking.

Survivors include his sister, Betty Lauer of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; three nephews; and his companion, Toby Young of Westminster.

The memorial service will be held April 21 at 2 p.m. at the Dummerston Center Church.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Civil Liberties Union.

Mitchell A. Prokulewicz

CAVENDISH — Mitchell A. “Mickey” Prokulewicz, 70, died April 3, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born April 24, 1931, in Cavendish, the son of Anthony and Mary (Antonivich) Prokulewicz.

He graduated from Springfield High School.

Mr. Prokulewicz served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea where he became disabled.

He was active in the Ludlow American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Claremont, N.H., Elks Club in Windsor, Moose Club in Springfield and Polish-American Club in Bellows Falls.

He enjoyed gardening and tending his fruit trees.

Survivors include a brother, Chester Prokulewicz of Burlington; two sisters, Mary Nowak of Cavendish and Helen Kawaky of Bellows Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Darlene (Riech) Prokulewicz, in 19991.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Ludlow.

Friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Visiting Nurse Alliance of New Hampshire and Vermont, 366 River St., Springfield, 05156.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Ludlow.

Mary B. McCandless

GUILFORD, Conn. — Mary B. McCandless, 77, of Guilford and Windham, Vt., died April 3, 2002, at Springfield (Vt.) Hospital.

She was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Chicago, the daughter of Herbert and Helen (Seaman) Bassett.

She was educated in the New Haven area and attended Connecticut College.

When she started visiting the Windham area in 1950, she met and married Bryon McCandless on Dec. 29, 1951.

Mrs. McCandless worked for United Aircraft in East Hartford as a physicist in the research department.

She was a volunteer in the schools in Guilford, where her children were educated.

She played flute in the Branford Town Band, and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors included her husband; a son, James McCandless of Durham; a daughter, Kathryn Campbell of Union, Ky.; a brother, John Bassett of New Haven; and five grandchildren.

The graveside service will be held at a later date in Windham cemetery in Vermont.

Friends may call Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Adams & Kenney Funeral Home in Chester, Vt.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Windham Congregational Church, 26 Harrington Road, Windham, Vt., 05359.

Randy Koetsier

WOODSTOCK — Randy Koetsier, 52, died April 4, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born Sept. 7, 1949, in Paterson, N.J., the son of Rudolph Koetsier and Ethel (Banta) Dros.

He graduated from Waldwick High School in New Jersey.

Mr. Koetsier moved to Woodstock and purchased the Cyclery Plus, a bicycle shop that he and his family have owned and operated since 1978.

Survivors include his wife, Marian of Woodstock; five children, Britney, Kelly, Kyle, Ashley and Emily, all of Woodstock; a sister, Teresa Spagone of Virginia Beach, Va.; and 22 nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Woodstock.

Calling hours will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cabot Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to the Koetsier Family Fund, in care of First Community Bank, P.O. Box 30, Woodstock, 05091.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.

Al Reyes

LONDONDERRY — Al Reyes, 85, died April 3, 2002, at Springfield Hospital.

He was born Jan. 13, 1917, in Boston, the son of Ralph and Pauline Reyes.

He grew up in New York City, and graduated from Manhattan College.

Mr. Reyes worked for the Vermont Protection and Advocacy Program and Achilles Track Club, an exercise program for the disabled. He was also active in the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

He completed in 12 New York City Marathons despite his many operations and medical challenges.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Keller Reyes of Londonderry; four daughters, Barbara Hamel of South Burlington, Rita Masso of Shelburne, Christine Estey of Bristol and Maria Reyes of Londonderry; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Chapel in Londonderry.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to NAMI-Vermont, 132 S. Main St., Waterbury, 05676, or Londonderry Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 911, Londonderry, 05148.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

James M. Kane Rites

SPRINGFIELD — The funeral Mass for James M. Kane, 78, who died April 1, 2002, was celebrated Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Springfield with the Rev. Shawn Therrien, pastor of St. Catherine’s Church in Charlestown, N.H., as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary’s cemetery.

Organist was Jay Chandler, who accompanied the Rejoice Choir. Cantor was Harry Smith.

Bearers were Michael Obuchowski, Paul Obuchowski, Howard Aiken and David Aiken.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel.

Emile J. Boutin Rites

SHAFTSBURY — The funeral Mass for Emile J. Boutin, who died April 1, 2002, was celebrated Thursday at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington with the Rev. Douglas W. Hawkins, administrator, officiating. Burial followed in Center Shaftsbury cemetery.

Organist was Louise Gauthier and soloist was Monica Murray.

American Legion Post 13 provided military honors. Ralph Brown and Joseph Krawczyk Sr. presented the flag to Mrs. Boutin. Maurice Rancourt sounded taps.

Bearers were Edward Armstrong, Kenneth Coonradt, Carl Davis, Paul Gauthier, Dennis McCarthy and Arthur Paulin.

A prayer service at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral Mass.

The wake service was offered Wednesday evening at the funeral home by the Rev. Hawkins. Members of American Legion Post 13, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1332 and Bennington Elks Lodge 567 also conducted their services.

A remembrance gathering was held at St. John the Baptist parish hall following the service.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Charlotte L. Hayward

NORTH GRANVILLE, N.Y. — Charlotte L. Hayward, 62, died April 3, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 13, 1939, in Wallingford, Vt., the daughter of Floyd and Elsie (Brewster) Campney.

She worked at Malinkrodt Industries in Argyle for many years.

Mrs. Hayward was a member of the Truthville Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Darlene Lopez of Ingelside, Texas, Dolly Mead of Middle Granville, Nancy Butler of Hudson Falls and Verna Nokes of North Granville; two sons, Dennis Hayward of Fair Haven and Russell Hayward III of Whitehall; two brothers, Arnold Campney of Gansevoort and Douglas of Fort Edward; a sister, Wanda Wells of Buffalo; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Russell Hayward, in 1999; and a brother, Lester Campney.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Truthville Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Dietrich officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Granville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 153, Granville, 12832.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert M. King Funeral Home in Granville.
