FRANK DENNING

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Francis W. "Frank" Denning, age 94, died Saturday evening, Dec. 22, 2001, in the Vermont Respite House in Williston.

Frank was born in Burlington Jan. 3, 1907, son of the late Francis and Helen (Church) Denning. He worked as an auto mechanic for F. B. Russell until 1942. While employed there, he was delivering a car that was struck by a railroad train. Mr. Russell sent him to the doctor, who just told him to go back to work and that he was among the very few to have survived an accident like that.

In 1942, he and his family moved to Hartford, Conn., where he manufactured guns for the Colt company. After World War II he returned to Vermont and established the Badger and Denning auto dealership, selling Hudson and Nash Automobiles. From 1969 until his retirement in 1979, he was the operator of School Bus #12 for the City of St. Albans Elementary School. As a master mechanic, he also was responsible for the maintenance of the school buses. Upon his retirement the school students pooled their money and presented him with a gold watch.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the B.P.O.E., Elks Lodge #1566 for over 60 years.

Dec. 10, 1924, he married Daisy M. Corrigan. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary together before Mrs. Denning died July 26, 1996.

Frank is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Merrill Greenia, Beverly and Dr. A. Gould Susslin all of St. Albans Town; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his brother Edward Denning and sister Bertha Spooner.

His family would like to extend their thanks to the Franklin County Home Health Agency for the help, compassion and care they have given to their dad and family over the past several years. Their thanks also to the Vermont Respite House for their care and kindness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Interment will follow in the Denning family lot in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

ROBERT JOHN DUMONT

SWANTON - Robert John Dumont, 71, a lifelong resident of the Swanton community died Thursday morning, Dec. 20, 2001, in his Lavoie Avenue residence.

Robert was born in Swanton, August 15, 1930, the son of the late Fred and Esther (Reynolds) Dumont. He attended Saint Anne's Academy and Swanton High Schools and on Oct. 27, 1951, was married to the former Ruth Marion Unwin, who survives him.

For 38 years Robert was associated with the Union Carbide Corp. of St. Albans, now Eveready Battery. He faithfully served his country as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post #1 of Saint Albans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post #778 in Swanton. He was also a lifelong parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, Ruth Dumont of Swanton, Robert leaves his daughter, Sherry B. Ashline and her husband Richard of Champlain, New York, his son, Robert A. Dumont and his wife Lori of St. Albans, three grandchildren, Eric, Emily and Elisa Ashline all of St. Albans, two brothers, Frederick Dumont and Russell Dumont and his wife Selina, and a brother in-law George Bellrose all of Swanton, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A brother, Raymond Dumont, and a sister, Dolores Bellrose, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE, pastor of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dumont family lot in Saint Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at Kidder Memorial Home on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

ARTHUR WENDELL MARSTON

MONTGOMERY -- Arthur Wendell Marston, age 71, husband of Natalie (Rushford) Marston, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 19, 2001 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

He was born Oct. 6, 1930 in Richford, the son of the late Ernest and Gertrude (Deuso) Marston.

He was a resident of Montgomery most of his life and was a member of the Montgomery Methodist Church. He was a self employed long distance truck driver for 45 years. On Nov. 22, 2000, he was recognized for making 2, 000, 000 safe driving miles in the service of Wheaton Van Lines, for whom he had driven for the past 38 years. He was a member of Owners / Operators and the NRA.

He is survived by his wife, Natalie Marston of Montgomery; one son and his wife, Mark and Nancy Marston of Richford; one daughter, Donna Marston of Montgomery; three grandchildren, Kevin, Christy and Patrick Marston; one brother and his wife, Richard and Janice Marston of Enosburg Falls; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Arthur F. Marston and Dale Marston; and one daughter, Sheila Marston.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Montgomery Methodist Church. Interment will be held next spring in the Montgomery Village Cemetery.

Friends and relatives may call on the family Sunday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral, at the church.

CHARLES WILLIAM GATES

FRANKLIN / BARTON -- Charles William Gates, age 81, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 19, 2001, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston.

He was born April 30, 1920 in Franklin, the son of the late Winslow and Bernice (Riley) Gates.

He was a 1937 graduate of Franklin High School and was an auctioneer and cattle dealer in northern Vermont and eastern New York for many years, retiring in 1985. He spent the last 17 years living in Winter Haven, Fla. in the winter, and Crystal Lake in Barton in the summer. He was a U.S. Naval Veteran of W.W.II and a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #42 of Enosburg.

He is survived by two sons, Howard Gates and his wife Mary of Franklin, and Charles W. "Jay" Gates II of Rutland; two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Stephen Perley of Enosburg, and Susan and Douglas Clark of Franklin; two sisters and their husbands, Pauline and Edward Stumpf of Thetford Ctr., and Ann and Joseph Kralik of So. Windsor, Conn.; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Patty and Marty Whittemore, Jon and Karen Gates, Betsy and Jeff Baker, Steven and Jill Gates, Deb and Tom Cook, Stephen and Lori Perley, Kathy Clark, Dan and Angie Clark, Karen Gates, and Amanda Gates; 12 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Justin, and Noah Gates, Zacharia and Hannah Baker, Madeline and Emily Gates, Nicholas and Matthew Perley, and Kaylee and Taylor Clark. He was predeceased by his wife, Waneta (Patch) Gates; a sister, Helen Hayes; and a great-grandson, Thomas S. Cook.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Spears Funeral Home on 96 Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls with Rev. Herman Benjamin officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Franklin.

Friends and relatives may call on the family Saturday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral, at the funeral home.

LILLIE (KELCY) de LOESCHNIGG

GEORGIA -- Lillie (Kelcy) de Loeschnigg, age 91, of East Georgia, beloved mother of Colette (de Loeschnigg) Nasrallah of Essex Junction and Jacqueline (de Loeschnigg) Martell and her husband John of Rutland; beloved grandmother of John Nasrallah MD, Jessica (Martell) Santini, and Lt. Justin Martell JD, USMC, passed away Dec. 19, 2001. She is also survived by a brother, Charles Kelcy and his wife Betty of Beaufort, South Carolina; and a niece and two nephews. Lillie was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Jean Pierre de Loeschnigg in 1969, and brothers Robert and Alfred Kelcy.

Lillie was born in Chicago, Ill. on Jan. 2, 1910. She spent her childhood in Europe and was fluent in Portuguese, German and French, in addition to her native English. In 1932, she married Jean Pierre de Loeschnigg. In 1950, they moved to Vermont and re-modeled an abandoned farmhouse. Lillie loved her home, enjoyed her role as a homemaker, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a charming person who was admired by her family and friends for her intelligence, joie de vivre, delightful sense of humor, financial acumen, and above all, her feisty spirit of independence. She will be sorely missed by all of us. We wish to thank her doctors, nurses, therapists and administrators at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Starr Farm Nursing Center, and Franklin County Home Health Agency for their excellent care. We especially want to thank our foster sister and dear friend Rita Noel for her loving support to us and for her many kindnesses to mother. We wish to thank mother's friends and neighbors for their half-century of friendship to our family.

Visiting hours will be today, Friday, Dec. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax. A service celebrating Lillie's life will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church in Burlington on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m., with interment following in Lake View Cemetery. As an alternative to flowers, memorial donations may be made in Lillie's memory for a scholarship in her name, awarded to a university student majoring in a foreign language, who had previously attended Georgia Elementary School. These donations may be sent to Colette Nasrallah, 3323 High Bridge Road, Fairfax, Vt., 05454.

ALICE C. FISKE

ALBURG - Alice C. Fiske, 68, daughter of the late Gilbert and Genevieve (LaVigne) Cameron, passed away early Saturday morning, Dec. 15, 2001, in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

Born in North Hero, May 6, 1933, Alice graduated from Alburg High School and received the Becker Jr. College Award. She then went on to study at the Sheldon Academy of Cosmetology in Burlington and worked there for several years. After returning to Alburg she opened her own shop and was in business for 45 years.

In 1957, she married David E. Fiske who predeceased her on, May 23, 1995.

Alice is survived by one loving daughter, Terrilynn Fiske and a grandson Travis Ryder Jarvis whom she loved so much and devoted most of her time to. Alice and her grandson, Travis, gardened together, went on short trips and their birthdays were always special.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Terrilynn was a special daughter. She helped care for her father and mother when they were in the greatest need. Alice also leaves her sister, Eileen Draper and her husband Herbert of Rutland; brothers Quentin Cameron of Grand Isle and Paul Cameron and his wife Lorraine of Alburg; three sisters-in-law, Janet Cameron of Connecticut, Velma Cameron of Alburg, and Lois Cameron of Isle La Motte, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Four brothers, Leslie, Holland, Darwin and Ralph Cameron, and a special sister-in-law, Lenora Cameron predeceased her.

Alice will always be remembered as a loving and caring person. She made cakes for weddings, birthdays, and many other occasions. Her love for cooking, canning, sewing, plus her customers and family were endless. She was very creative in crafts, especially at different holidays. She loved flowers and her home changed with the seasons. Alice was always there to help people in need and to give of herself for others.

Alice taught Sunday School for Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Swanton, belonged to Columbus Chapter, #76 Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Creller-Landon Post 60 in Alburg, and was a past member of the Alburg Library Association and the Vermont Hairdressers Association.

A Funeral Eucharist will be celebrated Saturday, Dece. 22, 2001, at 11 a.m. from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 38 Grand Ave., Swanton. The rector, The Reverend Marsha Hoecker, will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Weybridge Hill Cemetery in Weybridge.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Friday evening, Dec. 21, 2001, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Gifts in Alice's memory may be made to Alburg Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue, Inc., P.O. Box 223, Alburg, Vt., 05440.

J. PAUL PELLETIER

EAST HARTLAND -- J. Paul Pelletier, 61, of Granville Road, East Hartland, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001 at Hartford Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born March 8, 1940 in Swanton, son of the late Albert and Blanche (Godbout) Pelletier. Mr. Pelletier was employed at Sysco Food Services for 27 years. He is survived by a daughter, Michelle Pelletier of Winsted; a son, Michael Pelletier of Stamford; and their mother Leda Vincent of Simsbury; his brothers and sisters, Carmen Morrison of East Granby, Gilberte Callan and her husband Ray of Fairfield, Solange Pelletier of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Donald Pelletier of Hartland, Marie Allaire and her husband Real of St. Albans, Annette Loyer of Highgate, Maurice Pelletier and his wife Joyce of South Burlington, Rita DesLauriers of Williston, Lorraine Wry and her companion Larry Reynolds of Bristol; special friends, Steven Greenwood and David Alexson; and his coworkers who respectfully gave him the title "Pops." He was predeceased by his sister Florence.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury on Wednesday, Dec. 19., 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be Thursday, Dec. 20 at 10:15 a.m. from the Vincent Funeral Home in Simsbury, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Therese's Church, Granby. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
