Helen R. Horowitz

CHESTER — Helen R. Horowitz, 79, died May 25, 2002, at Integrated Health Services in Claremont, N.H.

She was born June 5, 1922.

She graduated from high school in New York City and William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y.

Mrs. Horowitz worked in a variety of school systems for a long time and as an aide at the Springfield Town Library.

She enjoyed walking and was well known by the residents of Chester and Springfield for briskly strolling with her signature red, four-wheeled walker. She was also an avid reader and accomplished needle-pointer.

Survivors include two sons, Robert and Mark.

She was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Dr. Irving Horowitz.

The funeral service will be celebrated Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Chester. Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery in Chester.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Chester.

Mabel S. Chambers

SPRINGFIELD — The graveside service for Mabel S. Chambers, 93, who died Dec. 18, 2001, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Oakland cemetery with the Rev. William Scherwerts, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

William E. Bloomfield Jr. Rites

SPRINGFIELD — The private graveside service for William E. “Eric” Bloomfield Jr., 75, who died May 31, 2002, was held Tuesday in Oakland cemetery in Springfield with the Rev. Patience Stoddard, pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Church, officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Gertrude P. Crocker Rites

CHESTER — The funeral service for Gertrude P. Crocker, 101, who died May 28, 2002, was held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Chester with the Rev. Thomas Charlton, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant View cemetery in Chester.

Organist, pianist and soloist was Katy Charlton.

Bearers were William Doran, Seeley Morton, Michael Doran, Charles Whelan, Charles Whelan II and Edward Whelan Jr.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

Herve L. Chartrand

WHITING — Herve L. Chartrand, 81, died Monday evening, June 3, 2002, at Rutland Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Mr. Chartrand was born in Whiting on February 19, 1921. He was the son of John and Alberta (St. Denis) Chartrand. He received his early education in local Whiting Schools. He was a lifelong resident of Whiting. He had been a self-employed farmer. He had owned and operated Herve Chartrand Excavating and Trucking. He had served the town of Whiting in various positions as well as the Whiting School Board. He was a Charter Member of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department. He loved woodworking and was always working with anything mechanical. He was a devoted family man and always said, “My greatest accomplishment in life is my family.” He was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Leicester and also attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon.

Surviving is his wife, Rita Ethier Chartrand of Whiting, whom he married in Orwell May 17, 1943; one son, Robert Chartrand of Clarendon, and his sons, Brent, Brian and Kevin; four daughters, Rachael LaDuke of Forest Dale and her daughter Michelle, Jane DeLong and her husband Arnie of Rutland and their daughters, Tracey, Teri and Trisha, Connie Chartrand of Princeton, N.J., Anne Quenneville and her husband Maurice of Leicester and their sons, Josh, Matthew and Cory; three brothers, Jules Chartrand of Shelburne, Eugene Chartrand of Pittsford and George Chartrand of Evanston, Wyoming; two sisters, Lucienne Bostwick of Bradenton, Fla., and Cora Ethier of Bridport. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by a brother, Roland, in 1933; and a sister, Alice Chartrand, in 1990.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 6, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz, pastor, will officiate.

A private graveside committal service and burial will take place at a later date in the family lot in St. Mary’s cemetery.

Friends may call at The Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon on Wednesday, June 5, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m. Fr. Skip will close out the evening with a Vigil Service at 8 p.m.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to St. Agnes Catholic Church, in care of Fr. Skip, 38 Carver St., Brandon, Vt., 05733, or to The Whiting Volunteer Fire Dept., Whiting, Vt., 05778.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Gerda A. Barber

SHOREHAM — Gerda Adeline Carla Barber, 74, died June 3, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Bremerhaven, Germany, the daughter of August and Bertha (Floamer) Wehrenberg.

She was educated in Germany.

She married Charles Barber on Aug. 16, 1947, in Fair Haven.

Mrs. Barber was a member of Shoreham Congregational Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Middlebury and the Sixty Plus Club of Shoreham.

She enjoyed crafts, painting and cooking.

Survivors include her husband of Shoreham; five sons, Dave Barber of Orwell, Dwight Barber of Tower City, Pa., R. Kevin Barber of Braintree, Douglas Barber of Salisbury and Dale Barber of Shoreham; 14 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by a brother, Wilhelm Wehrenberg.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Shoreham Congregational Church with the Rev. Leonard Rowell, interim pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview cemetery in Shoreham.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shoreham Congregational Church through the office of the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven.

Nancy E. Hall

ALSTEAD, N.H. — Nancy Elizabeth Smith Hall, 80, died June 1, 2002, at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.

She was born Aug. 2, 1921, in Easthampton, Mass., the daughter of Howard and Dorothea Smith.

She attended schools in Easthampton, Mass., and graduated from Smith College in Northampton, Mass., in 1945.

She married Daniel Hall Jr. on Nov. 22, 1945.

Mrs. Hall was employed as a librarian by the Central Intelligence Agency.

She served in the U.S. Navy as Lt. Cmdr., Office of Naval Intelligence.

Mrs. Hall was a resident of McLean, Va., and summer resident of Alstead. She was a member of Lewinsville Presbyterian Church in McLean, Va., and a year round supporter of the Third Congregational Church in Alstead.

She was an avid reader, gardener, home decorator, artist and gourmet cook.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Warren Hall III of Springfield, Va., Jonathan Hall of Charleston, S.C., and Timothy Hall of Bluemont, Va.; a daughter, Phoebe Danahy of Moorestown, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; two brothers; a sister; and many nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Third Church, UCC, River Street, Alstead, 03602.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Fenton & Henessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls, Vt.

Louis Padolecchia

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- Louis Padolecchia, 87, former resident of Rutland, Vt., died April 21, 2002, in Ft. Lauderdale.

He was born in Rutland, Vt., on Dec. 18, 1913, to Harold Padolecchia and Clara (Bombardia) Padolecchia.

He moved to Miami Beach in the 1940s and was employed at several different hotels during his career.

He was predeceased by a sister, Cora Wilkinson; and two brothers, Remo Padolecchia and Joseph Padolecchia.

He is survived by two nephews, Al Wilkinson and Ronald Wilkinson, both of Rutland, Vt.; and two nieces, Claire Lucchina of Barre, Vt., and Marylin Ray of Ft. Lauderdale.

Friends may attend a Mass and memorial service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, at St. Peter?s Church in Rutland, Vt. Burial of his ashes will follow in Calvary cemetery.

Robert J. Corliss

BRANDON - Robert J. Corliss, 31, died May 29, 2002, at Porter Hospital from injuries suffered in an accident at work.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

R. Morse Jasmin Rites

CLARENDON -- The graveside service for Richard ?Bob? Jasmin, 78, who died Jan. 13, 2002, was held Wednesday in East Clarendon cemetery in Clarendon with the Rev. Christopher Powell, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

Frances H. Hudson Rites

PITTSFORD - The funeral Mass for Frances H. Hudson, 91, who died May 25, 2002, was celebrated Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Pittsford, with the Rev. William Laliberte of Rutland officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen cemetery in Pittsford.

Organist was Stu James.

Bearers were Todd Hudson, David Hudson, Matthew Maxham, J. Allen Puma, Joshua Puma and Heiner Leber.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford.

Gertrude P. Crocker

CHESTER -- Gertrude P. Crocker, 101, died May 28, 2002, at Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow.

He was born Oct. 9, 1900, in Castleton, the daughter of Iness and Mary (Washburn) Parks.

She attended schools in Springfield.

She married Lawton Crocker on Nov. 10, 1922, in Chester. He died in 1965.

Mrs. Crocker operated a restaurant and boarding house, called the Hilton House, during World War II.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chester, the Chester Outing Club, the Chester Review Club and American Legion Auxiliary.

She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed working in her flower gardens.

Survivors include a son, Vincent Crocker of Chester; a daughter, Shirley Whelan of Chester; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Parks and Floyd Parks; and three sisters, Elizabeth Blow, Nina Novak and Lydia Stewart.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Chester with the Rev. Thomas Charlton, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View cemetery in Chester.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 187, Chester, 05143.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
